Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleOct 17, 2013
Chrysler Group, LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured January 8, 2013, through August 20, 2013. Due to a disruption of computer communications and loose alternator ground wires, the affected vehicles may experience random illumination of multiple instrument cluster warning lights, loss of cluster illumination and loss of anti-lock brake system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) function. Because of these conditions, the vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 101, "Controls and Displays," and No. 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."
A loss of ABS and ESC function reduces the driver's ability to control the vehicle. Drivers would not be warned of brake system failures or any other failures which would be illuminated on the dashboard display. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the ABS and instrument cluster module software and tighten the alternator ground wire, free of charge. The recall began on November 19, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N58.

I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT 2 INCIDENTS WHERE MY 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS ROLLED AFTER IT WAS \PUT INTO PARK AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE 1ST TIME HAPPENED ON 9/4/15 AFTER PARKING MY JEEP AND EXITING THE VEHICLE IT ROLLED BACKWARDS APPROXIMATELY 1' INTO THE CAR BEHIND ME. NO DAMAGE TO THE OTHER VEHICLE AND ONLY SMALL SCRATCHES ON MY REAR BUMPER. THE 2ND TIME WAS 9/5/15, AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE ON A SMALL INCLINE THE VEHICLE ROLLED 2' FORWARD INTO A GUARD RAIL POST CAUSING SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO MY FRONT BUMPER AND GRILL. I BROUGHT MY JEEP TO THE SMITH HAVEN CHRYSLER JEEP DEALER TODAY 9/23/15 TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED AND THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME "THIS IS NORMAL ESPECIALLY ON AN INCLINE" AND "IT SHOULD NOT ROLL MORE THAN 3 FEET". I COULD NOT BELIEVE I WAS BEING TOLD THAT THIS IS A NORMAL AND THERE WAS NOTHING TO DO ABOUT IT. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000.
Power train, Sep 22, 2015, crash
I TURNED MY 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH 24,400 MILES INTO MY FAMILY DRIVEWAY AND STOPPED BEFORE THE DRIVEWAY GATE. I LEFT 24 BETWEEN THE JEEP AND THE GATE SO THAT PEDESTRIANS COULD PASS IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WHILE I WAS OPENING THE GATE. I PUT THE JEEP IN PARK AND WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND WHILE STILL SEATED BUT WITH MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, I REACHED OVER TO THE PASSENGERS SEAT TO GRAB MY BAG FOR THE KEY. AFTER FINDING THE KEY, I EXITED THE RUNNING VEHICLE KEEPING THE DRIVER'S DOOR OPEN. I WALKED AROUND THE OPEN DOOR, STOPPED IN FRONT OF THE CAR AND UNLOCKED THE GATE. I THEN OPENED THE LEFT HALF OF THE GATE PUSHING IT ENTIRELY BACK TO THE WALL. I THEN PROCEEDED TO WALK BACK TO THE CENTER OF THE GATE TO OPEN THE RIGHT HALF OF THE GATE. I PULLED THE GATE ROD FROM THE HOLE IN THE GROUND SO I CAN MOVE THIS SECTION OF THE GATE, AND JUST AS I DID, THE JEEP BEGAN TO MOVE TOWARD ME HITTING THE FAR RIGHT GATE POST WITH THE RIGHT FRONT CORNER OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS SHOCKED AND RAN BACK AROUND THE OPEN DRIVERS DOOR AND INTO THE CAR TO BACK IT AWAY FROM THE POST. WHEN I ENTERED THE VEHICLE, I FOUND IT IN PARK, AND I SELECTED REVERSE TO BACK IT OFF THE GATE POST. FROM THE TIME I EXITED THE VEHICLE, IT WAS ABOUT 45 SECONDS BEFORE IT MOVED. IF I MISTAKENLY LEFT IT IN DRIVE, IT SHOULD HAVE BEGUN MOVING AS SOON AS I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL AND REACHED ACROSS TO THE PASSENGERS SEAT FOR MY BAG. EVEN IF I MAINTAINED MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AT THAT TIME, IT SHOULD HAVE MOVED WHEN I EXITED THE VEHICLE. IT SHOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN 45 SECONDS TO MOVE. IF IT WAS PUSHED MISTAKENLY INTO NEUTRAL, THE CAR SHOULD HAVE MOVED WHEN I EXITED. FROM A TWO FOOT DISTANCE, IT SUSTAINED OVER $2500 IN DAMAGE. THE DAMAGE WAS NOT CAUSED BY A SIMPLE ROLL IN NEUTRAL. THE CAR ACCELERATED AS IF IT WERE IN DRIVE, ALTHOUGH THE DASHBOARD INDICATED PARK. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE.
Power train, Electrical system, Engine, Sep 21, 2015
THE PROBLEM(S) THAT I HAVE HAD OR CURRENTLY HAVE WITH MY VEHICLE ARE AS FOLLOWS: 1. JULY 8, 2015: (MILEAGE 12,453) CAR DASH LIGHTS WERE LIGHTING UP AND THEN THE ENGINE DIED LATER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. FINALLY THE CAR STARTED UP HOWEVER THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT AND I DROVE IT HOME IN LOW GEAR. ON JULY 9, 2015, I TOOK THE CAR INTO CAMPBELL CHRYSLER SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN CENTRALIA WASHINGTON (SEE SERVICE SLIP) AND IT WAS RETURNED TO ME ON JULY 13, 2015. 2. JULY 15, 2015: AGAIN, THE CAR DASH LIGHTS WERE LIT UP AND THE CAR WAS STUCK IN LOW GEAR. I TURNED THE CAR INTO TO CAMPBELL CHRYSLER SERVICE DEPARTMENT (SEE SERVICE SLIP) ON JULY 16, 2015. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME ON AUGUST 18, 2015. 3. AUGUST 24, 2015: AGAIN THE CAR DASH LIGHTS WERE LIT UP AND THE CAR STUCK IN LOW GEAR AND THE MOTOR WAS SURGING. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO CAMPBELL CHRYSLER SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON AUGUST 25, 2015. THE CAR WAS RETURNED ON AUGUST 28, 2015. 4. AUGUST 31, 2015: I DROVE TO SEATTLE AND AGAIN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE SHIFTER LIGHTS WOULD FLASH AND SPEEDOMETER NUMBERS WOULD GO FROM LARGE FONT TO SMALL FONT. WHEN DASH LIGHTS AND WARNING LIGHTS PLUS DIFFERENT CHARACTERS FLASHED THEN THE ENGINE WOULD SURGE. CURRENTLY, THE CAR WAS BROUGHT BACK TO CAMPBELL CHRYSLER SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2015 BECAUSE ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON, AGAIN. THIS VEHICLE HAS BECOME A SAFETY HAZARD FOR MY FAMILY. IM NOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING THE CAR AND CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AS WELL AS MY FAMILIES. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR STALLED ON ME IT HAPPENED AT A STOP SIGN ON A TWO WAY HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE SURGING IS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN WITH-OUT MY CAR OVER 43 PLUS DAYS AND HAVE BEEN GREATLY INCONVENIENCED.
Equipment adaptive/mobility, Service brakes, Sep 17, 2015
LAST NIGHT, I WAS DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEED DOWN THE ROAD AND PERSON AHEAD OF ME BRAKED GRADUALLY TO MAKE A TURN. I BEGAN TO SOFTLY BRAKE. I HAD A GENEROUS AMOUNT OF SPACE BETWEEN ME AND THE CAR AHEAD OF ME - AT LEAST 5-6 CAR LENGTHS. THE FORWARD COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM ACTIVATED AND SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES, CAUSING THE CAR BEHIND ME TO NEARLY REAR-END ME. THE SYSTEM SHOULD NOT HAVE ACTIVATED AS THERE WAS NO REASONABLE THREAT OF COLLISION. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED AND I UNDERSTAND THE NHTSA IS INVESTIGATING THIS SYSTEM SO I DECIDED TO FILE A COMPLAINT IN ORDER TO ASSIST THE INVESTIGATION. THE SYSTEM WORKS WELL WHEN IT NEEDS TO BUT IT HAS FALSE POSITIVES OFTEN. IT IS SOMEWHAT TERRIFYING WHEN YOUR CAR JUST DECIDES TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES WITH NO CAUSE AND THERE IS A LEGITIMATE CAUSE FOR CONCERN WHEN IT DOES. OTHER DRIVERS BEHIND ME MAY BE UNPREPARED TO STOP AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH.
Other or unspecified, Sep 16, 2015
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING ISSUES WHERE MY INSTRUMENT DISPLAY CLUSTER LIGHTS UP WITH NUMEROUS VEHICLE WARNING INDICATORS. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING INTERMITTENTLY SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN SEPTEMBER, 2013. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED THE DEALERSHIP KEPT MY VEHICLE RENTING A VEHICLE FOR MY USE UNTIL IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY "REPAIRED." THE ISSUE HAS CONTINUED TO OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY SINCE THAT RECALL FOR A TOTAL OF ABOUT 5 TIMES. THIS MOST RECENT INCIDENT THE FOLLOWING OCCURRED -- ABS WARNING LIGHT, AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT, MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL WARNINGS LIGHTS WERE ALL DISPLAYED. ADDITIONALLY, THE SPEEDOMETER WAS INOPERABLE, THE BRAKE ENGAGED LIGHT WAS ON (EVEN THOUGH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS NOT ENGAGED) AND THE BACKUP WARNING SYSTEM DID NOT OPERATE. I HAVE HAD INSTANCES WHERE THE AIRBAG WARNING SYSTEM INDICATED THAT IT WAS NOT OPERATIONAL. I AM TOLD THAT IF THE WARNING LIGHTS DO NOT STAY ON THE SYSTEM "ERASES" THE FAULT CODES. THE SYSTEM SEEMS TO RESET ITSELF BUT I STILL DON'T THINK THIS SHOULD BE HAPPENING. THIS WEEK I WAS TOLD THAT THE BATTERY CHARGE WAS LOW AND THAT THE ISSUE HAD BEEN REPAIRED. MY QUESTION IS IF THIS ISSUE IS REPAIRED WHY DOES THE PROBLEM CONTINUE TO OCCUR. I AM HOPEFUL AFTER THIS TIME IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN BUT AM NOT SO SURE. I PAID $40K FOR THIS VEHICLE AND EXPECT THE SYSTEMS TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. IT IS NOW ALMOST OUT OF WARRANTY AND QUITE HONESTLY FEEL I AM BEING GIVEN A VARIETY OF ANSWERS UNTIL SUCH TIME IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND AM CONCERNED THAT IF/WHEN IT IS FINALLY REPAIRED THAT IT WILL COST A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MONEY. I HAVE NEVER FILED A COMPLAINT LIKE THIS BUT I ALSO DON'T BELIEVE I'M THE ONLY PERSON THIS IS HAPPENING TO. WHAT IF THIS SYSTEM PROBLEM OCCURS WHILE I'M DRIVING AND RESULTS IN AN ACCIDENT?

ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2015, I ARRIVED AT A GAS STATION WITH ONE ADDITIONAL PASSENGER IN MY VEHICLE. WHEN WE FULLY STOPPED IN THE PARKING SPACE, THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WAS PLACED IN PARK. THE SCREEN DISPLAY WAS STILL DISPLAYING THE CURRENT SATELLITE STATION. UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE, BOTH MY PASSENGER AND MYSELF, THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT RUNNING, BUT I TOOK THE KEY FOB WITH ME. I THEN PROCEEDED TO WALK AROUND AND BEHIND THE VEHICLE TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CAR. THE GAS STATION WAS HAVING CONSTRUCTION WORK, AND IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WERE CONES AND THE AREA WAS BLOCKED OFF. APPROXIMATELY 30 SECONDS LATER, WHILE BOTH MY PASSENGER AND MYSELF WERE INSIDE OF THE GAS STATION, A WITNESS CAME RUNNING TO THE GAS STATION WINDOW TO ALERT THE ATTENDANT, THAT A JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS JUST TAKEN OFF ACROSS THE PARKING LOT. AT THIS POINT, I DROPPED WHAT WAS IN MY HANDS, AND RAN TO LOOK. THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, 2014, HAD CRASHED ITSELF. ONE WOULD NOT THINK THIS IS EVEN A POSSIBILITY. PLEASE NOTE, THE KEYFOB WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN PARK PRIOR TO EXITING, AND THE DOORS WERE LOCKED. IF SOMEONE HAD TRIED TO STOP THE CAR, THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO. IT PROCEEDED TO TRAVEL, ON ITS OWN, BACKWARDS OVER 200 FEET AND CRASHED INTO A SPLIT RAIL FENCE, AND THEN LUCKILY IT CRASHED INTO THE ONLY TREE, BETWEEN THE SPACE IN WHICH IT WAS PROPERLY PARKED, AND AN INTERSECTION FOR A 55 MPH ROAD. THE POLICE WERE THEN CALLED TO THE SCENE, IN ORDER TO DOCUMENT THE INCIDENT, AND TO PROVIDE A POLICE REPORT FOR THE DAMAGE. NOW I AM LEFT WITH A JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT COULD SERIOUSLY INURE A PERSON, ON ITS OWN, WITH ITS DOORS LOCKED, AND NO KEY FOB IN THE VEHICLE. IT IS ALSO DAMAGED, PARTS ARE BROKEN, AND IT ALSO HAS CAUSED PROPERTY DAMAGE.

I HAVE A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH THE ECO DIESEL OPTION. AT 7100 MILES AFTER OIL CHANGE AND REFILL OF DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID INDICATOR ON DASH DISPLAYED INCORRECT DEF FLUID AND SERVICE DEF NEEDED OR VEHICLE WILL NOT RESTART IN 200 MILES. IT TOOK A WEEK AND 1 BUSINESS DAY BEFORE THE DEALERSHIP COULD EVEN LOOK AT THE VEHICLE DUE TO BACKUP IN SCHEDULING. AFTER THREE DAYS AT THE DEALERSHIP THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSIS WITH DPF CONVERTOR NEEDED REPLACEMENT, DEF SENSOR FAILURE, DEF INJECTOR FAILURE, AND O2 SENSOR FAILURE. AND THE PARTS WOULD TAKE 3 WEEKS JUST TO GET IN. TO ME THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 10000 MILES SHOULD NOT NEED THIS MANY REPAIRS WITH LONG DELAY JUST TO GET PARTS. IT SEEMS THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT PROPERLY ENGINEERED AND CANNOT MEET EMISSION STANDARDS LONG TERM. PLUS A VEHICLE THAT WILL TURN OFF AND NOT RESTART AT 200 MILES IS A DANGER TO A CONSUMER. JUST BASED ON AN INTERNET SEARCH I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THESE PROBLEMS THERE ARE NUMEROUS OWNERS OF 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH ECO DIESEL WITH THE SAME ISSUES. AND THE PROBLEMS ARE NEVER REALLY RESOLVED , PERMANENTLY FIXED AND OCCUR AGAIN. IN MY OPINION FCA SHOULD BE MADE TO BUY BACK THESE VEHICLE AND REDESIGNED TO AT LEAST MEET 80000 MILES EMISSION STANDARD WITH REALISTIC DURABILITY. THE CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT BE TEST SUBJECTS ON A UNRELIABLE VEHICLE UNTIL FCA COMES UP WITH FIXES TO VERY SERIOUS PROBLEMS. IN ADDITION SOME CONSUMERS ON INTERNET SITE HAVE BE TOLD TO IGNORE ENGINE PROBLEM INDICATOR LIGHT WARNING UNTIL FCA COMES UP WITH FIXES.

WHEN IDLING IN TRAFFIC WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, THE RPM'S ON THE TRANSMISSION ACCELERATES FOR UNKNOWN REASONS UNTIL THE ENGINE IS DISENGAGED AND PLACED INTO PARK OR NETURAL. THIS INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED FIVE TIMES OVER THE PAST YEAR - DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO FIX PROBLEM.

VEHICLE IS AN ECO-DIESEL MODEL. ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY LOST POWER AS WE ACCELERATED AWAY FROM A STOP LIGHT. INITIALLY THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO OVER 20 MPH. IT GRADUALLY ALLOWED US TO GET UP TO ABOUT 50 MPH, BUT WITH NOTICEABLE VIBRATION. THEN A NOTICE DISPLAYED ON THE INFORMATION CENTER TELLING US TO SERVICE THE ELECTRONIC SPEED CONTROL. TOOK IT IN THE NEXT DAY AND THE DEALER SAID WE WERE DRIVING WITH LEFT FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND RIGHT FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR CAUSING THE COMPUTER TO BE CONFUSED. SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED A SECOND TIME A WEEK LATER. THIS TIME IT GAINED ENOUGH POWER TO GET US UP TO 40 MPH AND HOME. WE THEN HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. NOT SURE WHAT THEY DID TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT IT HAS NOT HAPPENED SINCE, HOWEVER THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT HAS COME ON AGAIN 3 DIFFERENT TIMES. EACH TIME THE DEALER SAYS THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THE FIRST TWO TIMES THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON THE DEALER SAID IT WAS OK TO DRIVE UNTIL THEY COULD SCHEDULE SERVICE. THE THIRD TIME WE ASKED THE DEALER TO CONTACT JEEP HEADQUARTERS FOR TECHNICAL SUPPORT. CORPORATE JEEP SAID NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHCILE WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT ON, THAT IT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS PROBLEMS. ON-LINE RESEARCH AND DISCUSSION WITH OTHER LOCAL OWNERS OF THE SAME ECO-DIESEL MODEL SUGGEST THIS IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES.

WHEN SHIFTING INTO PARK THE SHIFT DOES NOT ALWAYS ENTER INTO PARK OR STAY IN PARK AND ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO ROLL AS IT IS IN REVERSE NOT PARK. THIS REPEATEDLY OCCURS. VEHICLE WAS LEASED 11/18/13 WITH INTENTIONS OF BUY OUT AT END TO PASS ON TO CHILDREN, VEHICLE BECAME TO UNRELIABLE AND UNSAFE FOR ME TO OPERATE SO I ENTERED IT ONTO SWAP A LEASE IN 2/2014. NO ONE WAS INTERESTED SO IT WAS PASSED TO MY HUSBAND AND WE PURCHASED A DIFFERENT VEHICLE FOR ME. HE HAS CONTINUOUSLY HAD THE SAME ISSUES AS WELL AS THE GEAR CHANGE ISSUES, AND PHONE SCREEN ISSUES... WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE PASSED ON TO A NEW/INEXPERIENCED DRIVER AS THE VEHICLE PRESENTS GRAVE SAFETY ISSUES. WE ARE AGAIN, CURRENTLY TRYING TO END THE LEASE VIA THE DEALERSHIP AS WE HAVE NOW BEEN MADE AWARE OF OTHERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AND FEEL THAT VALIDATION EXISTS WITH THE VEHICLE BEING DEFECTIVE AND WANT TO PREVENT CAUSING TO OTHERS OR OBTAINING OURSELVES ANY INJURIES FROM SUCH.

WHILE TRAVELLING ON OPEN HIGHWAY WITH NO VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME, THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WILL DRAMATICALLY SLOW DOWN AS IF IT'S DETECTING A VEHICLE IN FRONT. THIS WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER WHO RESPONDED THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO TAKE MY VEHICLE HOME ON A 20 MILE TRIP, IN RUSH HOUR, WITH CARS AROUND THEM. UNLESS I LET THEM TAKE MY VEHICLE ON A LONG HIGHWAY TRIP, IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS, THIS WILL NOT BE RE-PRODUCED. I SAID NO FOR OBVIOUS REASONS. THIS IS NOW DOCUMENTED WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER.

I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT IN A PARKING GARAGE BUT WAS FAVORING THE RIGHT SIDE. I BACKED UP APPROX. 6-8 FEET TO STRAIGHTEN THE CAR OUT. AS SOON AS I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE, IT LURCHED FORWARD AT FULL THROTTLE, WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE. I COULDN'T STOP IT. THE CAR ACCELERATED RAPIDLY AND SHOT FORWARD, OVER THE PARKING BARRIER AND RAMMED INTO THE CEMENT SUPPORT STRUCTURE OF THE DECK. THE IMPACT WAS JARRING AND THE CAR JERKED BACK UPON HITTING THE STRUCTURE. ALTHOUGH THE DISTANCE WAS ONLY ABOUT 6-8 FEET, THE IMPACT DID $3,300 DAMAGE TO THE CAR. I TOOK PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE ACCIDENT SITE AND THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR. THE PHOTOS SHOW THAT MY FRONT TIRES LAID DOWN SKID MARKS ON THE PAVEMENT AND UP AND OVER THE PARKING BARRIER AS I WAS TRYING TO STOP IT. A CLEAR INDICATION I WAS ON THE BRAKE. THE FORCE OF THE CAR PULLING AHEAD AGAINST THE BRAKES WAS VERY STRONG AND WAS ONLY STOPPED ONCE I SLAMMED IN THE PARKING GARAGE WALL. AFTER CONTACTING JEEP, I WAS REFERRED TO THE SPECIAL INVESTIGATION UNIT.I MET WITH A SPECIAL INVESTIGATOR AND HE EVALUATED MY VEHICLE AND SENT THE FINDINGS TO JEEP FOR FURTHER EVALUATION. THE INVESTIGATOR DECLINED TO VIEW MY PHOTOS OF THE ACCIDENT SCENE. A FEW WEEKS LATER I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE FINDINGS SHOWED NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR AND THE CASE HAD BEEN CLOSED. I APPEALED BUT WAS ONCE AGAIN DENIED. OTHER OCCURRENCES OF A SIMILAR, BUT LESS DRAMATIC, NATURE OCCURRED WITH THE VEHICLE BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER THE ACCIDENT. I REPORTED SEVERAL OF THESE TO THE DEALER. FINALLY IN MAY I WAS TOLD I HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY TRANSMISSION AND THEY REPROGRAMMED IT. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY OCCURRENCES SINCE. I AM CONVINCED MY CAR HAD/HAS A SERIOUS TRANSMISSION ISSUE THAT POSES A DANGER TO BOTH ME AND THOSE AROUND ME. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS STORIES ONLINE ABOUT PEOPLE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION ON 2014 JEEPS. ...UPDATED 03-10-16 *BF *CN

I STARTED MY 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND STEPPED OUTSIDE TO ASSIST MY SON WHO WAS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. BEFORE I COULD WALK AROUND, FROM BEHIND, THE JEEP STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS, PICKING UP SPEED, AND HITTING ANOTHER PARKED SUV. I NEVER UNDERSTOOD WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED JUST "ASSUMED" MY SON, ACCIDENTALLY, TOUCHED THE GEARS, BUT WONDERED HOW/WHY WOULD THE JEEP MOVE WITHOUT THE BRAKE EVER BEING DEPRESSED. THEIR WAS REAR DAMAGE TO MY SUV AND REAR/FRONT DAMAGE TO THE OTHER PERSON'S CAR. IT IS NOW BEING PUBLISHED THAT BOTH THE 2014 AND 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAVE HAD NUMEROUS INCIDENTS OF ROLLING ON THEIR OWN--IT NOW EXPLAINS EVERYTHING--MY SUV DID IT. IT WAS NOT PARKED ON A SLOPE, HILL, OR ANY TYPE OF INCLINE--JUST A FLAT SURFACE.

WHILE SITTING IN A LEFT TURN LANE, WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO TURN GREEN, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION JUMPED FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL ALL ON ITS OWN. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO FORWARD . IT WAS DIFFICULT GETTING THE TRANSMISSION BACK INTO DRIVE AND THIS CREATED A TRAFFIC HAZARD.

MY JEEP WAS EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL ISSUES SIMILAR TO THOSE MANY HAVE ALREADY COMPLAINED ABOUT. THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WOULD SHUT OFF OR ILLUMINATE, ETC. THE ONE DAY IT JUST WOULD NOT START. WE GOT IT JUMPED AND TOOK IT TO AN AUTO PARTS STORE WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS NOT CHARGING THE BATTERY AT THE APPROPRIATE VOLTAGE AND TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO INSPECTED IT AND ENDED UP FIXING THE ALTERNATOR UNDER AN OPEN RECALL. LESS THAN 1 WEEK LATER, THE JEEP WOULD NOT START AGAIN. AFTER GETTING ANOTHER JUMP START AND TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT. AFTER MY INSISTENCE THEY KEPT IT OVERNIGHT AND SURE ENOUGH THAT NEXT DAY THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THEY THEN TOLD ME IT WAS NOT THE BATTERY OR THE ALTERNATOR BUT REPLACED THE BATTERY ANYWAY, CHARGED ME $212 AS I AM JUST OVER THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. 4 DAYS LATER, MY JEEP CAR WOULD NOT START AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO JUMP START THE CAR, BUT IT WOULD DIE WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TESTED IT FOR ME AND AGAIN TOLD ME THAT THE ALTERNATOR IS NOT CHARGING THE BATTERY TO THE CORRECT LEVEL. I THEN HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO DEALER. IT'S AT THE DEALER NOW. FOR THE LAST TWO DAYS I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT, THEN THEY REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AGAIN AND IT STILL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY ARE NOW LOOKING AT THE WIRING AND WANT TO CHARGE ME FOR IT AND THEY CLAIM IT ISN'T RELATED (ALTHOUGH THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THIS IS REALLY THE ISSUE). IT ALL SEEMS VERY RELATED TO ME. DURING THE MONTH OF AUGUST, MY JEEP HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR 9 DAYS SO FAR WITH NO RESOLUTION.

AFTER ENTERING THE FREEWAY, THE CAR AUTONOMOUSLY SHIFTED ITSELF INTO NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THIS INCIDENT HAS REPEATED ITSELF DOZENS OF TIMES IN VARIOUS DRIVING SITUATIONS SINCE JUNE OF LAST YEAR (2014), JUST AFTER BEGINNING MY LEASE. SOMETIMES, AS IN THIS INSTANCE, I WAS ABLE TO PUSH THE START BUTTON AND THE ENGINE TURNED BACK ON, EVEN WHILE ROLLING IN NEUTRAL AT SPEED. IN MOST INSTANCES, THE CONDITION HAPPENS AS SLOWER SPEEDS (<30MPH) AND I AM UNABLE TO RESTART UNTIL COAST OFF THE ROADWAY, COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, DEPRESS THE BRAKE, SHIFT FROM NEUTRAL INTO PARK, AND THEN RESTART. WHEN THIS HAPPENS IN TRAFFIC I AM HELPLESS AS I ATTEMPT TO COAST TO SAFETY AS SPEEDING CARS RACE AROUND ME ON BOTH SIDES. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP(S) AT LEAST A HALF-DOZEN TIMES. ON THE VERY FIRST VISIT, I SAW THAT THE COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC READOUT SAID, "IMPROBABLE TORQUE CONVERSION". SINCE THAT FIRST TIME, I HAVE NOT SEEN READOUTS AND THEY'VE NOT BEEN SHARED. TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS HAVE TEST-DRIVEN THE VEHICLE AND CLAIM THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO RECREATE THE MALFUNCTION. WELL, NEITHER AM I. IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY AND I AM UNABLE TO DELIBERATELY CAUSE IT. NONETHELESS, IT HAPPENS. A CHIEF CONCERN OF MINE IS THE SEEMING LIMITATION OF THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS. UNLESS THE COMPUTER IDENTIFIES A PROBLEM, THEY SEEM TO BE SATISFIED THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM; THEY HAVE APPARENTLY NO ABILITY TO CONSIDER ANY OTHER FORM OF DIAGNOSTIC CURIOSITY. THEY CLAIM THAT THEY'VE SEARCHED AND FIND NO OTHER INSTANCES OF THIS CONDITION. YET, A CURSORY GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALS THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR INSTANCES WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL. AT THIS POINT, I ONLY DRIVE THE CAR WHEN THERE ARE NO OTHER PRACTICAL OPTIONS. I DO NOT TAKE MY FAMILY OR PASSENGERS IN THE CAR. I'M RENTING CARS OR UBERING MORE OFTEN. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO CHRYSLER AND HAVE FILED AN ISSUE. NO RESPONSE YET. CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE!
