  1. Power train, Electrical system, Engine, Sep 28, 2026

Recall 20V-475 / 23V-411 software patch was performed, but the underlying magnetic tone wheel defect has now physically failed, causing an active crankshaft position sensor error and stall hazard. While traveling 60mph the car stalled and went into limp mode with no prior warning. The vehicle has been diagnosed at a repair shop as a fault with the crankshaft position sensor performance which was apart of a pervious recall listed above. The vehicle has not been inspected by any others at this time as its not safe to drive and do not want out of pocket cost to do so.

  2. Power train, Electrical system, Engine, Sep 24, 2026

I own a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit 4x4 with the 3.0L EcoDiesel, with approximately 113,170 miles. The vehicle has experienced multiple intermittent episodes of “Service Electronic Throttle Control.” During the most recent episode, the vehicle briefly jerked/lurched forward and then experienced a significant loss of engine power/boost. I scanned the vehicle and found DTC P0336 (Crankshaft Position Sensor A Performance, intermittent). Clearing the code temporarily restored normal operation, but the fault later returned. During the most recent recurrence, the engine also cranked noticeably longer than normal before starting. FCA previously issued safety recall W79 concerning loss of crankshaft-position signal on these vehicles. The recall involved a software update intended to maintain engine operation using the camshaft signal if the crankshaft signal is lost. FCA also lists warranty extension X95 concerning the 3.0L diesel crankshaft tone wheel. FCA technical documentation identifies P0336 as a possible symptom associated with crankshaft tone-wheel magnetic material failure. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by a dealer or independent shop to confirm the physical cause. I have stopped driving it because I am concerned that an intermittent crankshaft-position problem could result in unexpected loss of motive power, engine stalling, or inability to restart. I contacted FCA Customer Care regarding this issue. FCA has indicated that the applicable warranty extension has expired and has not agreed to assist with the repair. I am currently using a rental vehicle while the Jeep is out of service. I am requesting that NHTSA document and review this suspected safety issue. The physical tone wheel has not yet been confirmed as failed, but the symptoms and P0336 code appear consistent with the failure mode described in FCA’s documentation.

  3. Power train, Engine, Jun 25, 2026

System Failed: Total engine failure caused by a defective Recall W79 EGR Cooler, which is available for physical inspection at my residence.Safety Risk: The vehicle suffered a sudden, complete loss of motive power at speed. This caused an immediate traffic hazard, risking a catastrophic rear-end collision due to lost propulsion, power steering, and braking.Dealer Verification: The vehicle is currently undrivable. Jeep Corporate is actively giving me the runaround and refusing to tow or diagnose the vehicle under the EcoDiesel Settlement Extended Warranty.Inspections: No inspections have been conducted yet by police, insurance, or the manufacturer; the vehicle is fully preserved.Symptoms/Warning: No long-term warning lights appeared. The vehicle suddenly lost AC cooling and instantly stalled out without advanced mechanical warning.

  4. Power train, Engine, Jun 18, 2026

No check engine lights prior to this, car started to make a noise pulled over to check it out as I was merging over low oil pressure showed and coolant level over temperature, gear then dropped to neutral, managed to pull over without any accidents car then shut off, oil leaked, it makes a horrible engine noise when starting, had to tow it back. only had the car a year maintenance was up to date.

  5. Power train, Forward collision avoidance, Jun 17, 2026

ACC automatically canceled without braking causing car to either slow down immediately or speed up unsafely, slippery road light turns on, on dash while driving straight, lunging of the car that feels like tires are spinning and or hesitation.

  6. Power train, Apr 19, 2026

While driving at highway speeds, my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited unexpectedly shifted from Drive into Neutral without any driver input. This has occurred twice at different speeds. After the first incident, the vehicle was inspected by a dealership, but no diagnostic trouble codes were found and no issue was identified. The following day, the same problem happened again under similar conditions. When this occurs, the vehicle loses power to the drivetrain, creating a dangerous situation in traffic. This appears to be related to the electronic shifting module and poses a significant safety risk.

  7. Power train, Apr 2, 2026

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly shifted into neutral(N). There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after shifting into park(P). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to several dealers but was not diagnosed. The dealer was able to duplicate the failure; however, no diagnostic trouble codes were found. The dealer suggested that an unstated valve might need to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

  8. Power train, Vehicle speed control, Engine, Mar 6, 2026

Despite having the EGR replaced under recall the unit still exploded while driving on wed 4 Mar 2026. Fluids were leaking and had indicated issues with the electric shifter. The local dealerships states the egr cooler needs replaced, coolant tank, DPF and oil change (despite just being done the Saturday before). Refusing to acknowledge any connection to previous recall or associated damages. Contacted FCA customer support and ignored my concerns and said just pay the dealer the $6000+.

  9. Power train, Engine, Feb 23, 2026

Vehicle began displaying check engine light. Diagnostic code P219B (Bank 2 air-fuel ratio imbalance) was identified. Vehicle was serviced and a valve-related repair was performed. Shortly after, engine performance worsened and further inspection revealed metal shavings in engine oil and confirmed internal lifter/valvetrain failure. Oil levels were normal and maintenance records are available. No warning of low oil pressure or overheating occurred prior to failure. Independent service center and inspector confirmed internal mechanical failure. Engine failure created risk of sudden loss of power while driving. This appears consistent with documented Pentastar 3.6L valvetrain/lifter issues reported by other owners. Concern is potential for sudden engine malfunction and safety risk due to power loss.

  10. Power train, Feb 17, 2026

  17. Power train, Aug 26, 2025

My car goes into neutral on its own.

  18. Power train, Aug 19, 2025

Slipping, feels like transmission is going bad

  19. Power train, Forward collision avoidance, May 14, 2025

On the highway my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel briefly stalled and the check engine light came on. I then lost all power and could only maintain a speed of 45MPH in a 70MPH speed limit highway. I turned on my flashers and could not get off the road due to construction and Jersey barriers for several miles. When I had the opportunity I pulled off the side of the road and called to have my vehicle towed to a service facility. I was informed by the mechanic that scanned my car for trouble codes, a P0336-00 was set in my PCM. The mechanic informed me that I would have to take the vehicle to a Jeep Chrysler dealer. This is apparently a known issue with 2014 to 2018 Jeep Grad Cherokees equipped with the 3.0L diesel engine including RAM 1500s of the same vintage with the same diesel engine installed. The specific problem is that the crank shaft tone wheel is not read by the crankshaft position sensor because of degradation to the tone wheel which is connected to the crankshaft. I have complied with all safety and emission recalls. Related: RC-RW68-20 Safety Recall W68 Transport Canada 2020-371 Loss of Crankshaft Position. Requires the replacement of the Tone wheel. Issued 02/11/2021. RC-RW58-20 Safety Recall W68 Transport Canada 2020-371 Loss of Crankshaft Position. Requires PCM Software update for Loss of Crankshaft Position. In lieu of the Tone Wheel failing, the computer uses the Camshaft Position sensor. This is only designed to not disable the car completely but allow the driver to pull of the road. P0335-00 or P0336-00 wil be set and a check engine light will illuminate. My vehicle was not included in the NTHSA Safety Recall and it should have been.
