  1. Service brakes, Hydraulic, Engine, Mar 14, 2022

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V519000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, while driving 25 MPH and attempting to make a U-turn, the vehicle stalled inadvertently. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The contact pushed the vehicle to the side of the road with the assistance of a bystander. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer sent a claim to the manufacturer and was awaiting a response. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.

  2. Steering, Service brakes, Air, Tires, Aug 5, 2021

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the traction control, ABS and the tire pressure warning lights remained illuminated. Additionally, while operating the vehicle, the power steering inadvertently deactivated and the steering wheel would become difficult to turn in either direction. During the failure, the power steering, battery, and air bag warning lights were illuminated. The cause of the failures was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were both notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 120,000.

  3. Service brakes, Hydraulic, Jul 25, 2021

2014 KIA SORENTO EX was manufactured w/ poor to very low headlights. The required bulb for the standard headlights is the H7 bulb on this vehicle... It is NOT ACCEPTABLE and the driver cannot see with any distance at all and turning is a complete hazard and accident waiting to happen as the lightning is so poor you can't see anything when turning. I have studied, reviewed, read and worked to try and ensure we got the best possible light and there simply is a poor electrical wiring design for this specific vehicle. I adjusted the Headlights UP as far as I could and it still made no difference at all in my viewing field. How could the NHSTA allow KIA to get away with coming to market w/ these POOR Headlights? We have to drive around at night now w/ the High Beams On at all times in order to see properly. That is unacceptable! The Driver should not have to purchase an LED Bright Light Kit and have to Re-Wire the vehicle because of being provided a lightning system that doesn't work and is an extreme danger. KIA should have to recall every single one of these vehicles and provide " sufficient " lighting that meets SAFETY protocols for headlights and the field that is to be illuminated. How is nobody aware of this and why hasn't it been addressed? It's outrageous and I've never heard of any vehicle having to use High Beams to see driving down a straight road let alone in heavy traffic and or or on a winding road. Is anyone listening and or are Safety Standards now a thing of the past. Shame on KIA, they know of the problem and have done NOTHING to correct it. KIA Brake Speed Sensors fail routinely and should also be a RECALLED Item. We've had all of the Brake Speed Sensors fail on the vehicle and now we've had to pay out of our pocket to replace these faulty items. It's ridiculous....they were covered under warranty until 60k but that is NOT sufficient! There has been about three (3) separate recalls for this vehicle relating to brake issues.

  4. Service brakes, Hydraulic, Jul 12, 2021, crash

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated the while driving at unknown speeds the brake pedal was applied but, it depressed to the floorboard happened several times and crashed into an oak tree on his property. The contact engaged the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. Additionally, while driving he crashed into a yellow pole post on another occasion. There were no warning lights illuminated. There were no reported injuries, air bag deployment, fire, or police report filed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where diagnosed the brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 94,463. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 21V331000(air bags). The contact stated he was concerned about his safety about driving the vehicle. Consumer stated happened again on Oct 3rd when car was started, illumination of malfunction indicator light (MIL) came on as well as Anti Braking System indicator light came on. Brake fluid could leak internally so consumer turned off the car engine. Consumer spoke to manufacture on Oct 4, 2021 regarding case number [XXX]. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).”

  5. Power train, Service brakes, Engine, Jun 23, 2021

The contact's fiancé owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated the vehicle engine had been misfiring and the brake fluid had been leaking onto the fuse block. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where they had replaced the spark plugs however, the failure continued. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with the fuse box and power relay control was needing to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not provide any assistance as a case was opened. The vehicle was not repaired due to the fact that the contact would be responsible for the repair cost. The approximate failure mileage was 126,000.

  6. Service brakes, May 25, 2021

Approx. 38000 miles on vehicle. Approx. 25 miles ago the ABS and the “anti skid” lights came up on the dashboard. Approx. 15 miles ago the TPMS light came on, flashed then steady. (Checked tires at a repair shop, no low tire pressure). I checked my owners manual, not an “urgent” or “immediate” situation, but contact the dealer. Through NHTSA website saw a recall and TSBs for these issues. Kia dealership saying recall isn’t for my vehicle, and the TSBs are not covered under my extended warranty. If these issues are a safety issue, should they not be covered? I just want to document these issues, the Kia dealership (Gettel in Bradenton, Fl) and KIA customer service, if something happens, damages my vehicle or causes, creates an incident I want a record to exist. Am I in danger, are other motorists?

  7. Service brakes, Mar 9, 2021

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO REPLACED AN UNKNOWN PART HOWEVER, THE FAILURE REOCCURRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED AN UNKNOWN RECALL RELATED TO THE ABS SYSTEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE NHTSA FOR ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE 116,000.

  8. Service brakes, Feb 24, 2021

ABS LIGHT WAS GOING ON AND OFF, NOW IS CONSTANTLY ON. THEN TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT GOING ON AND OFF NOW IS CONSTANTLY ON. NOW MY BRAKE LIGHT IS ON. WHEN I START THE CAR THE TIRE LIGHT FLASHES ON AND OFF WHICH CAUSES MY SPEEDOMETER TO GO UP AND DOWN. HEADLIGHTS STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY AFTER SEVERAL BULB REPLACEMENTS.

  9. Electrical system, Service brakes, Feb 22, 2021

I RCV'D A LETTER FROM KIA RE THE HYDRAULIC ELEC CNTROL UNIT THAT IT MAY LEAK FLUID AND RESULT IN A FIRE. LTR DTD OCT 15, '20; RCV'D @ MID NOV. HAVE TRIED TELEPHONIC CONTACT W/LOCAL DEALER MANY TIMES AND GET NOWHERE- NO RETURN CALLS, NO COMMO WHATSOEVER. LTR STATES KIA HAS ADVISED DEALERS TO INSPECT, BUT NO INTEREST FROM VIVA KIA, EL PASO.

  10. Service brakes, Hydraulic, Dec 30, 2020

ON NOV. 11, 2020 I TOOK THIS 2014 KIA SORENTO INTO THE LOCAL KIA DEALER FOR A FOLLOW UP ON A RECALL NOTICE I RECEIVED IN THE MAIL. THE RECALL WAS FOR AN INSPECTION ON THE HECU UNIT WHICH CONTROLS THE ABS SYSTEM, ESC SYSTEM, AND THE TCS SYSTEM. THE DASH BOARD INDICATOR LIGHTS FOR THE ABS, TCS, AND BRAKES ARE VISIBLE ON THE DASH WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMED A DRAW TEST ON THE ABS MODULE AND DETERMINED EVERYTHING WAS OK AND NO REPAIRS WOULD BE NEEDED FOR THIS RECALL (SC197). THE VEHICLE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE LEAKING BRAKE FLUID INTO THE HECU UNIT. MY CONCERN ABOUT THIS RECALL IS WHY ARE THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS STILL VISIBLE ON THE DASHBOARD. THE RECALL WAS ON THESE ELEMENTS AND KIA SHOULD HAVE CORRECTED ANY ELECTRONIC PROBLEM RELATED TO THIS RECALL. IS THE PROBLEM ELECTRICAL ON THESE VEHICLES OTHER THAN BRAKE FLUID LEAKING ONTO THE HECU UNIT THAT COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

  11. Service brakes, Dec 7, 2020

THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HECU) ASSEMBLY CONTROLS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM(ABS) ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM (ESC) AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (TCS) IN YOUR VECICLE. BRAKE FLUID MAY LEAK INTRNALLY INSIDE THE HECU,WHICH,OVERTIME,CAN RESULT IN AN ELETRICAL SHORT.AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE HECU INCREASES THE RISK OF AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE. KIA SAYS THEY INSPECTED THE UNIT INDICATED"NO ELECTRICAL DRAW AT THIS TIME". I WOULD PREFER THE UNIT BE REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE.

  12. Service brakes, Nov 16, 2020

THIS CAR HAS HAD NUMEROUS RECALLS INCLUDING A MAJOR ONE IN WHICH THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE ENGINE (THEY DID IT ON THIS CAR). NOW I HAVE THE ABS, ESC AND TIRE PRESSURE LIGHTS ON (WITH TIRE PRESSURE AT THE CORRECT READINGS) WHICH I BELIEVE IS RELATED TO THE LATEST ABS RECALL THEY HAD. UNFORTUNATELY, MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED ON MARCH 2013, THEIR LATEST ABS RECALL (WHICH MAY START A FIRE) ONLY INCLUDES THIS MODEL AND YEAR STARTING JUNE 2013. I BELIEVE, MY CAR SHOULD ALSO QUALIFY FOR THIS RECALL. THANK YOU

  13. Service brakes, Nov 3, 2020

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, AND THE ANTILOCK BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL WHEN DRIVING AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO BE UNABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO STOP IN A TIMELY MANNER. THE CONTACT HAD TO ENGAGE BRAKE WITH FORCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM, FAILURE WAS CAUSING THE TIRES NOT RESPOND IMMEDIATELY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 20V519000 (HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT MAY SHORT). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FUCCILLO KIA OF CAPE CORAL FLORIDA 404 NORTH EAST PINE ISLAND ROAD CAPE CORAL FLORIDA 33903 PHONE 239-242-7000, FOR THE RECALL REPAIR AND THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM, AND ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM, WILL ALSO NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALLED NEEDED TO ALSO INCLUDE THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM FAILURE, AND THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO WANTED TO STATE THAT THE VEHICLE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT OPERATING AS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,467. *DT *TR

  14. Service brakes, Oct 18, 2020

CAR BRAKE LIGHTS STAYED ON AND WOULDN'T TURN OFF. IT DRAINED MY BATTERY. TOOK CAR TO KIA DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES BUT COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP REPLACED BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AND SENSOR AND STILL MY BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ON. WHILE DRIVING AND IN PARK. DEALERSHIP SAID THEY CALLED KIA CORPORATE CODING AND THAT THE HECU NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.

  15. Service brakes, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 8, 2020

CAR DOES PERFECTLY FINE FOR TWO WEEKS THEN RUNS THROUGH RADIATOR FLUID AND OIL LIKE IT'S CRAZY HAS NOT THROWN A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS HAD MULTIPLE MAINTENANCE IS FIXES WE HAVE LITERALLY ALMOST HAD A SEVERE ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE CAR STARTED TO SMOKE AND HAD THE RADIATOR CAP ALMOST EXPLODE OFF OF IT . AND IT LITERALLY WAS DRIVING ON A NORMAL SPEED GOING ABOUT 75 MPH-80MPH, ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN SUDDENLY IT GOES TO A COMPLETE AND UTTER 20 MPH WITH HER TO THE FLOOR THIS CAR HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT TROUBLE IT'S BEEN TAKEN CARE OF IT'S BARELY DRIVEN FROM OUR TIME OF PURCHASE.AND THE AMOUNT OF CERTIFIED VETERAN KIA. MY FAMILY'S OR MY WIFE DREAM VEHICLE IS BEEN OUR NIGHTMARE. I HAVE PLENTY OF BILLS I CAN UPLOAD HERE THE DATE BELOW IS THE DATE THAT I'VE BEEN PAYING FOR TO SIT IN MY DRIVEWAY AND FOR IT TO BE LOOKED AT MECHANICS FOR THEM TO FIX SOME THING AND NOTHING BE RESOLVED.

  17. Structure, Service brakes, Sep 26, 2020

PEARL PAIN IS PEELING AND CHIPPING. WENT THRU CAR WASH AND IT CHIPPED HOOD CAR WASH PAID FOR IT TO BE REPAIRED. THEN ON 9/15/20 IT WAS RAINING AND THE RAIN CHIPPED THE PAINT ON THE DOOR FRAME. NOTHING HIT IT OR DAMAGED IT I WAS DRIVING BUT THE RAIN PEELED MY PAINT. THAT'S WHEN I DECIDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH BECAUSE THERE IS NO REASON WHY MY PAINT SHOULD CHIP LIKE THAT AND FOUND OUT THAT THE PAINT IS FAULTY. I ALSO DISCOVER THERE WAS A RECALL DUE TO FAULTY BREAK LINES AND LEAKS AND I BELIEVE I MAY HAVE A BREAK LEAK BECAUSE EVERYTIME ITS TIME FOR AN OIL CHANGE THE BREAK LIGHT COMES ON AND ONCE THEY PUT FLUID IN IT IT GOES OFF. MY UPKEEP HAS BEEN IMMACULATE SINCE OWNING THIS CAR AND ALL OF THESE ISSUES I BELIEVE ARE DUE TO FACTORY DEFECT.

  18. Steering, Suspension, Service brakes, Sep 2, 2020

THE SUSPENSION IN THE SLIGHTEST BUMP THAT FALLS, IT DOES NOT PROTECT IT HITS DRY IT HAS NO SUPPORT, THE STEERING WHEEL FROM ZERO MILES IS A RATTLE EVEN THOUGH WE TAKE IT TO ITS GUARANTEE THEY NEVER FIXED IT, IN THE SAME WAY THE BRAKE DISCS TO THE EMERGENCY BRAKING AS THEY SKID, SWEEP; YOU HAVE TO STEP ON THE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES FOR IT TO RESPOND ...

  19. Steering, Suspension, Service brakes, Jul 19, 2020

WHEN BRAKING, BRAKES GIVE OUT AND CAR SKIDS. ON TURNS, I HAVE TO PUMP BRAKES TO TRY AND REGAIN CONTROL.

  20. Service brakes, May 22, 2020

MY TROUBLES BEGAN ON APRIL 6, 2020 WHEN MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE IN ANY PRIOR VEHICLE THEREFORE EVEN THOUGH WE WHERE AT THE HEIGHT OF A WORLDWIDE PANDEMIC I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE KIA DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAVE MY VEHICLE SERVICED. I WAS ABLE TO GET AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT MORNING. I WAS REGRETTABLY INFORMED THAT MY LEFT REAR ABS SENSOR HAD FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. INCLUDING THE COST OF THE OIL CHANGE, THIS REPAIR COST ME $657.35. THEN ON APRIL 22, 2020,MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ONCE AGAIN, I IMMEDIATELY SCHEDULED AND APPOINTMENT AT THE KIA DEALERSHIP IN DELRAY BEACH, FL FOR THE NEXT MORNING. SOON THEREAFTER I WAS ADVISED THAT MY FUEL TANK SENSOR HAD FAILED. THIS COST ME $463.61.ON MAY 5, 2020, TO MY SURPRISE MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE KIA DEALERSHIP IN DELRAY BEACH, FL FOR THE NEXT MORNING. I WAS SOON INFORMED THAT MY RIGHT ABS SENSOR HAD FAILED. THIS REPAIR COST ME $513.32. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS REGARDING MY DISPUTE, HOWEVER, ON EACH OCCASION I HAVE BEEN MET WITH ADVERSITY. MY DISPUTE IS NOT WITH KIA'S WARRANTY HOWEVER, EACH TIME I HAVE SPOKEN WITH KIA'S MANAGEMENT AND/OR CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES THEY CONTINUE TO ADVISE ME THAT MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED SO THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. MY ISSUE IS, THAT THEIR SENSORS ARE FAULTY. SPECIFICALLY, THE REAR ABS SENSORS. THESE SENSORS SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED LIKE THIS. KIA HAS CONTINUED TO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE ABS SENSORS. KIA SHOULD NOT BE SHIFTING THE BLAME AND COST OF THEIR FAULTY PARTS ONTO THEIR CONSUMERS. DURING MY LAST CALL WITH [XXX], A MANAGER AT KIA MOTORS IN IRVINE, CALIFORNIA; I WAS ASKED HOW MANY KIA'S I OWNED. WHEN I ADVISED HIM THAT THIS WAS MY FIRST AND WILL NOW BE MY LAST KIA, HE TOLD ME THAT I AM NOT A LOYAL CUSTOMER AND I HAVE NO WARRANTY SO THERE IS NOTHING KIA MOTORS CAN DO. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

TAKATA RECALL I PURCHASED MY KIA INDEX 2014. IMMEDIATELY THE PAINT STARTED BUBBLING AND THEN PEELING AROUND THE WINDSHIELD AND HOOD. WE CALLED KIA AND THEY SAID THIS IS NOT COVERED. ALSO WE GET RECALLS ABOUT THE ENGINE. I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM UNTIL I TOOK IT IN. THE FIRST RECALL I GOT THEY DRAINED THE OIL AND TOOK OIL PAN OFF MY CAR. THE SECOND ONE NOT SURE WHAT THEY DID TO IT BUT IT WAS ABOUT. THE ENGINE. NOW I HAVE TO PUT OIL IN MY VEHICLE ABOUT ONCE A WEEK. THE DOOR LOCKS DON'T WORK THE KEYLESS ENTRY WILL LET YOU IN BUT YOU HAVE TO LOCK ALL YOUR DOORS BY WALKING AROUND THE VEHICLE. THE HEADLIGHTS KEEPS,BLOWING. I HAVE PROBABLY PUT 10 HEADLIGHTS IN MY CAR OVER THE PAST YEAR. NOW MY ABS TRACTION CONTROL AND LOW LIGHT FOR TIRES IS ON AND WILL NOT GO OFFF IT AMAZES ME THAT THERE ARE NO OPEN RECALL ON THUS VEHICLE I AM SURE IT WILL NOT LAST ME UNTIL I PAY IT OFF. THIS IS THE WORST VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED

EVER SINCE WE TOOK OUR KIA FOR THE RECALL SERVICE AND THEY "FIXED IT" TURNS OUT THE MADE IT WORSE AND NOW THE ENGINE MAKES A LOUD RATTLING SOUND, THE BREAKS WHICH ARE NEW HAVE HORRIBLE PERFORMANCE AND THE ELECTRICAL ISSUES WE ARE HAVING WITH THE ODOMETER AND THE TRANSMISSION SENSORS DUE TO THE RECALL AS WELL BUT THE LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP THAT "FIXED IT" WILL NOT TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT THEY BROK WITHOUT US HAVING TO PAY THEM FOR IT WE HAVE HAD NO ACCIDENTS AND IT GETS MAINTENANCE DONE ON TIME.
