Recalls and investigations

  1. Latches/locks/linkages, hood, latchMay 28, 2020

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2018 Nissan Altima vehicles. If the primary hood latch is inadvertently released, there is an increased likelihood that the secondary hood latch may corrode over time.

Corrosion to the secondary latch may cause it to bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed. If the primary latch is inadvertently released again and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will install a stronger release spring in the hood release lever, a warning label near the secondary hood latch, and an Owner’s Manual addendum card with instructions on how to lubricate and maintain the secondary hood latch mechanism, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 30, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Note: Recall 16V-029 remains open for any unremedied 2013-2015 Altimas and this recall applies to all vehicles covered by 16V-029 even if those repairs have already been performed.

  2. Air bags, sensor, occupant classificationDec 19, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Altima vehicles manufactured January 3, 2013, to July 29, 2013, 2015-2016 Rogue vehicles manufactured October 14, 2014, to August 12, 2016, and 2016 Maxima vehicles manufactured June 4, 2015, to August 19, 2015. An incorrect Occupant Classification System (OCS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) may have been installed in the front passenger seat. The incorrect ECU and seat combination may misclassify the front passenger seat occupant.

If the front passenger seat occupant is misclassified, the air bag may deploy incorrectly in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ECU and update the OCS software free of charge. The recall began February 13, 2017. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

  3. Air bags, sensor, occupant classificationApr 26, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.

If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.

Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. Interim notices were sent to owners on May 31, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669, Infiniti customer service at 1-888-833-3216 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

  4. Latches/locks/linkages, hood, latchJan 22, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Nissan Altima vehicles manufactured March 6, 2012, to December 31, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the secondary hood latch may bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed.

If the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

These vehicles were previously included in recalls 14V-565 and 15V-116, however the previous remedy plan may not have been performed consistently to remove the safety risk. To correct this issue, Nissan will re-notify all affected owners and dealers will replace the hood latch with a new one, free of charge. The recall began on February 17, 2016. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. Note: This recall supersedes recalls 14V-565 and 15V-116.

  5. Air bags, frontalOct 20, 2015

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Altima and Pathfinder vehicles, 2013-2014 Nissan Sentra vehicles, 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles, 2014-2015 Infiniti QX60 vehicles and 2014 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid vehicles. The affected vehicles received an incorrect occupant classification system (OCS) control unit during a repair. These OCS control units may incorrectly classify the front passenger seat as empty, when it is occupied by an adult.

If the OCS does not detect an adult occupant in the passenger seat, the passenger air bag would be deactivated. Failure of the passenger airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the passenger.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will update the OCS software, free of charge. The recall began on November 30, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

  6. Fuel system, gasolineAug 4, 2015

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) notified the agency on July 31, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2016 Nissan Maxima vehicles manufactured February 10, 2015, to August 18, 2015. On October 14, 2015, Nissan expanded the recall to cover an additional 41,388 vehicles, including certain model year 2013-2015 Altima 3.5 vehicles equipped with a V6 engine manufactured March 30, 2012, to August 18, 2015 as well as the vehicles covered by the July 31, 2015 notification. In the affected vehicles, due to an improperly installed o-ring that may not have been seated correctly at the time of assembly, fuel may leak during a crash from the area where the fuel sending unit attaches to the fuel tank.

If fuel leaks from between the fuel sending unit and the tank, it may increase the risk of a fire in the event of a crash.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer ring between the fuel tank and the fuel sending unit. The recall began on September 28, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Nissan Altima vehicles manufactured March 1, 2013, to December 31, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the secondary hood latch may bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed.

If the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will be instructed to modify the bend angle of the hood actuation lever to eliminate potential interference with the hood inner panel. In addition, dealers will clean and lubricate the latch joint as needed. If significant corrosion is observed, the latch assembly will be replaced. This repairs will be performed free of charge. Sensors within the passenger Occupant Detection System (ODS) may have been manufactured out of specification. This may cause the system to malfunction and permanently suppress the passenger airbag.

If the vehicle is involved in a crash necessitating airbag deployment and the passenger airbag is suppressed, there may be an increased risk of personal injury.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the ODS sensors and replace them as neccessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 6, 2013. Owners may contact Nissan Customer Service at 1-800-647-7261.

  1. Air bags, Nov 28, 2015

PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY WITH AN ADULT PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT WEIGHING APPROXIMATELY 140 LBS. THE YELLOW AIRBAG OFF LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. IT USUALLY GOES OUT AFTER ABOUT FIVE SECONDS. SOMETIMES IT STAYS ON. I SOMETIMES PULL OVER AND TURN OFF THE CAR AND RESTART AND IT USUALLY GOES OUT LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP WHERE WE BOUGHT IT. THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY RESET THE COMPUTER. PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS WITH THE DEALER. DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT IS A WEIGHT ISSUE WITH THE PERSON SITTING IN THE SEAT. 140 LBS AND UNDER THE LIGHT MIGHT COME ON. LOOKING ONLINE, IT LOOKS LIKE MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY HAZARD. WHEN LIGHT IS ON, AIR BAGS WON'T DEPLOY IF IN AN ACCIDENT OCCURS.

  2. Air bags, Seats, Nov 25, 2015

FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG REMAINS DISABLED WHEN FULL SIZED ADULT IS SITTING IN FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALER OVER ONE YEAR AGO FOR RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. STILL HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. NEW RECALL ISSUED OCT 2015, TOOK VEHICLE TO NISSAN FOR FIX ON 11/24/15. NISSAN WILL NOT FIX, SAY THEY HAVE NO WAY TO FIX THE ISSUE. NISSAN STATES I WILL HAVE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE A VEHICLE WITH INOPERABLE PASSENGER AIR BAGS. SHOWED NISSAN SERVICE DEPT VIDEO OF FULL SIZED ADULT SITTING IN PASSENGER SEAT, VEHICLE RUNNING, AND "AIRBAG OFF" LIGHT ILLUMINATED IN CENTER OF DASH. NISSAN STATES THERE IS NO FAULT IN THE SYSTEM, AND PASSENGER SHOULD JUST "MOVE THEIR LEGS" TO ARM THE SYSTEM. PASSENGER SEATING POSITION DOES NOT ARM AIRBAG OR ALTER THE FUNCTION OF THE FAULTY SYSTEM. PROBLEM OCCURS RANDOMLY, WITH VEHICLE MOVING/STATIONARY.

  3. Visibility/wiper, Nov 24, 2015

NISSAN ALTIMA 2013, 50,000 MILES. HAS A CRACKED WINDSHIELD. I HAVE SEEN MANY REPORTS OF OTHER OWNERS THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ACQUIRED SINCE IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN. IF THERE'S A CAR ACCIDENT AND THE AIR BAGS DEPLOY WITH A CRACK WINDSHIELD THE AIR BACK MAY NOT DEPLOY CORRECTLY. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN STATIONARY FOR A COUPLE MONTHS. CRACK APPEARED ALL OF A SUDDEN. I DO NOT RECALL A HARD IMPACT BY A ROCK OR OTHER SIMILAR DEBRIS. THE CAR HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN THE FREEWAY.

  8. Power train, Nov 11, 2015

POWER SHIFTER WILL NOT MOVE OUT OF PARK UNLESS YOU PAY NISSAN $1000 TO REPAIR. YOU CAN DO A MANUAL OVERRIDE USING A SCREWDRIVER, BUT IF YOU FORGET TO PUT THE BRAKES ON, YOU WILL GO INTO REVERSE AUTOMATICALLY WHICH CAN DAMAGE THE TRANSMISSION, OR CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS ALSO A PROBLEM WITH THE NISSAN TITAN TRUCK. NISSAN SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY A DRINK BEING SPILLED, AND IT ONLY TAKES A DROP OR TWO. I ACCIDENTALLY BUMPED MY COFFEE CUP WHEN GETTING INTO THE CAR. A DEALER TRIED TO CLEAN THE SHIFTER, BUT IT DIDN'T WORK, AND THEY CHARGED ME $120 DOLLARS. CAR IS STATIONARY.

  9. Power train, Nov 11, 2015

JUST PURCHASED NISSAN ALTIMA 2013 SL WITH 24,000 MILES STILL UNDER NEW CAR WARRANTY IN SEPT. PAYING $400 MONTHLY. ACCIDENTALLY BUMPED COFFEE CUP WHEN GETTING INTO CAR. A FEW WEEKS LATER THE SHIFTER STICKS IN PARK, AND YOU CAN'T GET IT OUT UNLESS YOU PAY NISSAN $1000 TO REPLACE IT. I PAYED THEM $120 TO CLEAN. IT DIDN'T WORK. THE NISSAN NORTH AMERICAN OFFICE CALLED ME TO TELL ME THAT THEY WOULD DO NOTHING. THIS IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURER DESIGN ISSUE. MY BOSS HAS A $45,000 NISSAN TITAN, AND HE HAS TO USE A SCREW DRIVER LIKE I DO TO PUSH DOWN IN THE LITTLE OPENING BESIDE THE GEARS. YOU HAVE TO LIFT THE LITTLE BOX LID TO THE LEFT OF THE GEARS. NISSAN HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS FOR YEARS. I AM SINGLE, AND STRUGGLING TO MAKE THE CAR PAYMENT ALREADY, AND I WORK IN A REAL BAD AREA. MY SAFETY IS A CONCERN IF I CAN'T LEAVE AS QUICKLY AS I ENTER THE CAR. NISSAN DENIES THAT THIS IS THEIR FAULT AND IS TRYING TO STICK IT TO NISSAN CONSUMERS. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN, AND HAVE ALREADY TOLD 2 ALTIMA OWNERS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, AND WILL TELL EVERYONE I SEE WHO IS CONSIDERING PURCHASING A NISSAN, OR HAS ONE. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS IN PARK.

  10. Air bags, Nov 10, 2015

THE PASSENGER AIRBAG DISABLED LIGHT HAS COME ON TWICE IN TWO MONTHS WHILE MY WIFE (110 LBS.)WAS SEATED SQUARELY IN THE CENTER OF THE PASSENGER SEAT.. I NOTICE THIS RIGHT AFTER STARTING ON A DRIVE. MY WIFE MOVED AROUND IN THE SEAT TRYING TO GET IT TO RECOGNIZE HER PRESENCE WITH NO LUCK. IT RESET-TED BOTH TIMES AFTER STOPPING THE CAR AND HAVING HER EXIT AND REENTER. THIS VEHICLE HAD ALREADY HAD THIS ISSUE SERVICED UNDER THE PREVIOUS RECALL. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER LAST WEEK. THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM SO THEY SENT ME HOME WITHOUT MAKING ANY REPAIR. I HAVE VIDEO EVIDENCE PUT FORGOT TO GET IT OUT OF MY WIFES PHONE BEFORE SHE LEFT FOR JAPAN FOR AQ THREE WEEK TRIP. I WILL UPLOAD IT WHEN SHE RETURNS. THIS IS MY WIFES CAR SO I WILL PUT HER NAME ON THE CONTACT FORM.

  12. Air bags, Nov 6, 2015

THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED WHEN AN ADULT PASSENGER IS SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THIS CONTINUES TO OCCUR EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS SERVICED FOR THIS RECURRING PROBLEM BY THE NISSAN DEALER LAST WEEK UNDER THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE SOFTWARE UPDATE PERFORMED BY THE DEALER HAS NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM.

  14. Air bags, Nov 4, 2015

2013 NISSAN ALTIMA SV PURCHASED BRAND NEW, APRIL 2013.. MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT DETECTOR IS CONSTANTLY INTERMITTENTLY LIGHTING UP WHEN MY DAUGHTER, WHO IS 18 SITS IN THE SEAT..SHE WEIGHS ABOUT 115 LBS. TO GET THE LIGHT TO TURN OFF, AND THEREFORE HOPE THE AIRBAG WORKS, IF GOD FORBID WE GET INTO AN ACCIDENT, I HAVE TO TURN OFF THE CAR, HAVE HER GET OUT, THEN GET BACK IN AND THEN START THE CAR AGAIN..THIS USUALLY RESULTS IN THE LIGHT GOING OUT AND THEN WE CAN PROCEED "SAFELY" ON OUR WAY, WITH THE AIRBAG HOPEFULLY OPERATIONAL. THAT'S PRETTY BAD WHEN WE ALREADY HAVE A RITUAL TO FIGURE THIS ISSUE OUT, DON'T YOU THINK?? I DID TAKE IT TO NISSAN WHERE I BOUGHT IT NEW, 2 YEARS AGO AND THEY TOLD ME THAT SHE DOESN'T WEIGH ENOUGH FOR THE SENSOR.. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO WEIGHS 180 LBS AND THE LIGHT ALSO OCCASIONALLY GOES ON WITH HER IN THE SEAT!! SO, BY NISSAN'S REASONING, THEN 180 LBS ISN'T ENOUGH TO ACTIVATE THE SENSOR???? SHE LOVES IT BECAUSE IT MAKES HER FEEL THINNER, BUT SERIOUSLY, THIS IS RIDICULOUS! SOMETHING IS OBVIOUSLY WRONG WITH EITHER THE AIRBAG OR SENSOR! NOW, I SEE NISSAN HAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE THAT I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH FOR 2 YEARS, BUT SOMEHOW, MY CAR IS EXCLUDED WHEN THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH. WHAT IS THE REASONING HERE?? ALSO, I LIVE IN FLORIDA, WHERE THE HUMIDITY IS VERY HIGH AND I KNOW THERE HAVE BEEN MANY ISSUES WITH THE TAKATA AIRBAGS WHERE THE HUMIDITY IS HIGH, LIKE HERE WHERE I LIVE AND DRIVE. PS,...OTHER THAN THIS, I REALLY DO LOVE THIS CAR..WISH THIS WOULD GET STRAIGHTENED OUT, OR NISSAN MAY HAVE SOME LAWSUITS ON THERE HANDS WITH REGARDS TO THESE AIRBAGS!!

  15. Structure, Nov 3, 2015

WHILE GOING AROUND 55MPH ON THE HWY 55, HOOD JUST POPPED WITHOUT ANY WARNING, HITTING THE WINDSHIELD AND ROOF. THIS CAUSED MAJOR BODY DAMAGE TO BOTH FENDERS, HOOD AND ROOF. BEFORE DRIVING THE CAR, I ALWAYS WALK AROUND IT TO CHECK TIRE INFLATED OK, HOOD/TRUNK/DOOR CLOSE/LATCHED. THIS HAPPENED OCT17. WENT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND ALSO CALLED NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE MONDAY OCT 19. CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THIS DAMAGE WOULD BE COVERED BY THEIR HOOD LATCH RECALL THAT I WAS NOT AWARE OF. IT'S BEEN 2 WEEK AND STILL WAITING FOR WARRANTY CLAIMS TO APPROVE FIX. HOOD IS VIBRATING WHEN I GO OVER 55MPH AND SO AFRAID THIS NIGHTMARE MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN.

  16. Other or unspecified, Engine, Oct 30, 2015

I HAVE A 2013 ALTIMA THAT SHUDDERS/HESITATE/VIBRATES INTERMITTENTLY UPON ACCELERATION. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE. UPON PICKING UP MY CAR, I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE ISSUE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE PROBLEM STARTED AT APPROXIMATELY 25,000 MILES. I AM KNOW AT 54,000 MILES AND FEAR THAT THE WARRANTY WILL BE UP BEFORE A SOLUTION IS FOUND. THE SHUDDERING/VIBRATION/HESITANCY CAN HAPPEN ANYWHERE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE ISSUE ONLINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS, HOWEVER, NO RECALLS.. I AM SURE NISSAN KNEW OF THE DEFECT PRIOR TO RELEASING THE VEHICLES AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONT TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE.

  17. Air bags, Oct 28, 2015

THE CAR RANDOMLY DISPLAYS THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG DEACTIVATION LIGHT WHEN THE SEAT IS EITHER OCCUPIED BY SOMEONE WEIGHING 130-180 POUNDS OR THE SEAT IS EMPTY. ALL COMPONENTS OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SYSTEM HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND RECALL NUMBER 14V138000 HAS BEEN PERFORMED. SINCE THIS RANDOMLY HAPPENS, NISSAN SAYS "IF THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEY CANNOT AND WILL NOT FIX IT." THIS STARTED AT APPROXIMATELY 20,000 MILES AND HAS CONTINUED SINCE. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON THE ROADWAY AND THE LIGHT WILL SOMETIMES COME ON. A NISSAN REP SAID TODAY, OCTOBER 29, 2015, THAT IF THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS TO DEPLOY WHILE OCCUPIED BY MY WIFE(5' 5" 180 POUNDS) OR DAUGHTER(4' 10" 130 POUNDS) THAT "THEY WOULD BE SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED." I HAVE PICTURES AND VIDEOS SHOWING THE MALFUNCTION. IT HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS DATES.

  18. Air bags, Oct 28, 2015

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WAS OCCUPIED BUT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG OFF WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE SEAT WAS BEING OCCUPIED BY A 180 POUND PASSENGER. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG SYSTEM WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT THE SYSTEM WAS OPERATING AS NORMAL AND THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.....UPDATED 12/30/15 *BF

  19. Engine, Oct 27, 2015

WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS THE CAR BEGINS TO LURCH AND THEN STALLS. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE PAST TWO DAYS. IN ADDITION, WHEN YOU STOP AT A REDLIGHT AND THEN START TO GO AT THE GREEN LIGHT THE CAR STALLS. THIS HAPPENED LAST NIGHT AND WE WERE ALMOST HIT BY THE CAR BEHIND US. THE CAR STALLED AT THE LIGHT SO WE HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK, THEN PUT YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO START THE CAR, AND THEN PUT IN DRIVE. THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD BUT STALLED AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF A INTERSECTION. WE REPEATED THE START UP PROCESS AND THE CAR DROVE HOME. THIS MORNING THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. WE CALLED NISSAN AND THEY ADVISED THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS. THIS CAR IS SIMPLY NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IN THIS STATE. WE DROPPED THE CAR OFF AT A DEALER THIS MORNING. I AM PROVIDING THIS INFORMATION BECAUSE MANY OTHERS HAVE AS WELL. OUR CAR JUST WENT OVER 36000 MILES

  20. Air bags, Oct 26, 2015

PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT DOES NOT CYCLE OFF WHEN A ADULT IS ON BOARD. THIS OCCURS APROX 15% OF THE TIME AND REQUIRES THE CAR TO BE SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED. THIS MITIGATES THE PROBLEM MOST OF THE TIME. CAR HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIRS FOR THIS PROBLEM ON 3 OCCASIONS TO INCLUDE THE SPRING 14 ALGORITHM RECALL. IF ANYTHING, THE COMPUTER REPROGRAM MADE IT WORSE. NISSAN DEALERS HAVE NO FIX AND IGNORE THE PROBLEM. DEALER TREATS ME LIKE IT IS MY IMAGINATION EVEN THOUGH I HAVE VIDEO RECORDED THE LIGHT ON AT SPEED SEVERAL DOZEN TIMES. MY CAR IS A LEASE AND IT IS GOING BACK IN 6 MONTHS. THIS PROBLEM IS DEPENDENT ON THE "BOOT" PROCESS FAILING. THE LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON DURING TRAVEL IF IT PROPERLY CYCLES WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED. IF THE LIGHT SUCCESSFULLY GOES OUT 5 SECONDS AFTER START, IT STAYS OUT. I AM ASSUMING THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS ENGAGED AND WILL FUNCTION? THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED FROM THE VERY FIRST DAY UNTIL NOW, ONGOING....35800 MILES.

BACKUP CAMERA SIGNAL TO SCREEN FAILS AND LOSES PICTURE WHEN BACKING UP. STATIC APPEARS ON SCREEN. OCCURS WITH RANDOM REVERSE MOVEMENT. USUALLY FROM PARKING LOT OR STALL, INDOOR OR OUTDOOR, EVEN OWN PRIVATE DWELLING GARAGE. ATTEMPTED REMEDY BY NISSAN SERVICE WAS TO REPLACE AUDIO COMPONENT BUT STILL RECURS. HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 8 TIMES SO FAR.

I HAVE A 2013 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG OCCUPANT SENSOR COMES ON SHOWING THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS TURNED OFF WHEN AN ADULT IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. THE ADULT IS 200 LBS. THE LIGHT WILL STAY ON WHILE DRIVING. MY CAR WAS RECALLED FOR THE OCCUPANT SENSOR CLASSIFICATION RESET. IT DID NOT CHANGE ANYTHING. IT STILL DOES THE SAME THING. I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT IT NUMEROUS TIMES TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO FIX FOR THIS AND NO CODES IN THE COMPUTER. IT SEEMS THAT IF THE PASSENGER SITS IN THE CAR, BUCKLES THE SEAT BELT BEFORE THE CAR IS STARTED THEN THE ISSUE HAPPENS LESS OFTEN, AS IF THE CAR ONLY CHECKS IF THE SEAT IS OCCUPIED ON STARTUP.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE HOOD OF THE CAR CAME FLYING UP AND COMPLETELY COVERED THE WINDSHIELD. THE FORCE WAS SO GREAT THAT IT DAMAGED THE ROOF LINING INSIDE THE CAR AS WELL AS KNOCKED THE SUNGLASSES HOLDER OUT OF PLACE (HANGING BY A WIRE),

I BOUGHT A NISSAN ALTIMA NEW IN 2013 AND MY DASH HAS BECOME EXTREMELY STICKY AND SHINY CAUSING A BAD VISIBILITY GLARE IN MY WINDSHIELD WHEN I DRIVE. I CONTACTED NISSAN BUT THEY REFUSED HELP EVEN WITH A PURCHASE OF AN EXTENDED WARRANTY.
