Recalls and investigations

  1. Latches/locks/linkages, hood, latchMay 28, 2020

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2018 Nissan Altima vehicles. If the primary hood latch is inadvertently released, there is an increased likelihood that the secondary hood latch may corrode over time.

Corrosion to the secondary latch may cause it to bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed. If the primary latch is inadvertently released again and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will install a stronger release spring in the hood release lever, a warning label near the secondary hood latch, and an Owner’s Manual addendum card with instructions on how to lubricate and maintain the secondary hood latch mechanism, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 30, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Note: Recall 16V-029 remains open for any unremedied 2013-2015 Altimas and this recall applies to all vehicles covered by 16V-029 even if those repairs have already been performed.

  2. Air bags, sensor, occupant classificationDec 19, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Altima vehicles manufactured January 3, 2013, to July 29, 2013, 2015-2016 Rogue vehicles manufactured October 14, 2014, to August 12, 2016, and 2016 Maxima vehicles manufactured June 4, 2015, to August 19, 2015. An incorrect Occupant Classification System (OCS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) may have been installed in the front passenger seat. The incorrect ECU and seat combination may misclassify the front passenger seat occupant.

If the front passenger seat occupant is misclassified, the air bag may deploy incorrectly in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ECU and update the OCS software free of charge. The recall began February 13, 2017. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

  3. Air bags, sensor, occupant classificationApr 26, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.

If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.

Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. Interim notices were sent to owners on May 31, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669, Infiniti customer service at 1-888-833-3216 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

  4. Latches/locks/linkages, hood, latchJan 22, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Nissan Altima vehicles manufactured March 6, 2012, to December 31, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the secondary hood latch may bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed.

If the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

These vehicles were previously included in recalls 14V-565 and 15V-116, however the previous remedy plan may not have been performed consistently to remove the safety risk. To correct this issue, Nissan will re-notify all affected owners and dealers will replace the hood latch with a new one, free of charge. The recall began on February 17, 2016. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. Note: This recall supersedes recalls 14V-565 and 15V-116.

  5. Air bags, frontalOct 20, 2015

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Altima and Pathfinder vehicles, 2013-2014 Nissan Sentra vehicles, 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles, 2014-2015 Infiniti QX60 vehicles and 2014 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid vehicles. The affected vehicles received an incorrect occupant classification system (OCS) control unit during a repair. These OCS control units may incorrectly classify the front passenger seat as empty, when it is occupied by an adult.

If the OCS does not detect an adult occupant in the passenger seat, the passenger air bag would be deactivated. Failure of the passenger airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the passenger.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will update the OCS software, free of charge. The recall began on November 30, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

  6. Fuel system, gasolineAug 4, 2015

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) notified the agency on July 31, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2016 Nissan Maxima vehicles manufactured February 10, 2015, to August 18, 2015. On October 14, 2015, Nissan expanded the recall to cover an additional 41,388 vehicles, including certain model year 2013-2015 Altima 3.5 vehicles equipped with a V6 engine manufactured March 30, 2012, to August 18, 2015 as well as the vehicles covered by the July 31, 2015 notification. In the affected vehicles, due to an improperly installed o-ring that may not have been seated correctly at the time of assembly, fuel may leak during a crash from the area where the fuel sending unit attaches to the fuel tank.

If fuel leaks from between the fuel sending unit and the tank, it may increase the risk of a fire in the event of a crash.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer ring between the fuel tank and the fuel sending unit. The recall began on September 28, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Nissan Altima vehicles manufactured March 1, 2013, to December 31, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the secondary hood latch may bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed.

If the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will be instructed to modify the bend angle of the hood actuation lever to eliminate potential interference with the hood inner panel. In addition, dealers will clean and lubricate the latch joint as needed. If significant corrosion is observed, the latch assembly will be replaced. This repairs will be performed free of charge. 1. Air bags, Apr 15, 2015

I'VE HAD THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT THAT IS IN THE CENTER OF DASH COME ON MULTIPLE TIMES EVEN WITH AN ADULT SITTING IN THE SEAT. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP (8/9/14), THEY SAID THIS IS NEW ISSUE AND THAT THEY WOULD DO SOME SORT OF SOFTWARE UPDATE AND THE PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED. THE ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN SO I TOOK THE CAR BACK IN (11/19/14) AND THEY SAID THE UPDATE MIGHT NOT HAVE TAKEN PROPERLY, SO THEY DID THE UPDATE AGAIN. WELL IT TOOK SEVERAL WEEKS, BUT THE ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR IN (3/16/15) AND THEY SAID THAT THEY WILL DO A COMPLETE REPROGRAM JUST IN CASE THERE WAS A LINGERING ISSUE FROM LAST TIME. WELL, THAT DID NOT WORK. THE ISSUE IS STILL HAPPENING AND I TOOK THE CAR IN YESTERDAY (4/14/15) AND THE DEALERSHIP CALLED ME TODAY AND SAID THAT THEY PERFORMED A FUNCTION TEST AND COULDN'T FIND ANY ERROR CODES, SO THEY SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING. THEY SAID THAT IF IT HAPPENS TO BRING IT IN ASAP. WITH THIS ISSUE BEING SO INTERMITTENT, I HAVE RESORTED TO TAKING PHOTOS OF PEOPLE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT OF THE CAR WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION. I FEEL THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED MORE SERIOUSLY. *TR

  2. Air bags, Seat belts, Apr 8, 2015, crash

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO LOCK AND RESTRAIN THE DRIVER. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE CONTACT SUSTAINED CHEST INJURIES . THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE AN INSPECTION WAS DONE ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

  3. Electrical system, Air bags, Apr 1, 2015

VEHICLE WAS SERVICED BY NISSAN DEALERSHIP PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN #14V138000 ON 3/11/15. ON 3/12/15, THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM CONTINUED TO OPERATE IMPROPERLY (E.G. NOT DETECTING AN OCCUPANT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT). THIS HAS BEEN NOTED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THE OCS SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED BY THE OEM. *TR

  4. Air bags, Mar 31, 2015

THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT WILL COME ON INTERMITTENTLY WHEN THERE ARE PASSENGERS SITTING IN THE SEAT. THE LIGHT STAYS ON INDICATING THAT THE AIR BAG IS NOT FUNCTIONING. THE SAFETY OF THE PASSENGERS ARE AT GREAT RISK WHEN THIS IS OCCURRING. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO A NISSAN DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THIS SAFETY CONCERN TO NO AVAIL. *TR

  5. Power train, Mar 30, 2015

UNABLE TO SHIFT THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER OUT OF THE PARK POSITION. AT FIRST I THOUGHT I MIGHT NOT HAVE PRESSED ON THE BRAKE. AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS IT UNLOCKED AND I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT IN GEAR. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP ON FRIDAY MARCH 27, 2015, AND WAS TOLD THE 'BRAKE SAFETY SWITCH' FAILED. THIS WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $154. LEFT THE DEALERSHIP AND CAR WAS SHIFTING FINE. THE NEXT MORNING I DROVE A LOCAL DAY WENT TO LOCAL STORE AND PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT, WHEN I CAME OUT AND WHEN TO LEAVE, I WAS NOT ABLE TO SHIFT THE GEAR SHIFT OUT OF THE PARK POSITION. CALLED THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD TO HAVE IT TOWED IN. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER REMOVED THE "SHIFT LOCK COVER BUTTON" AND USED A SCREWDRIVER TO OVERRIDE THE GEARSHIFT LEVER AND THEN PUT THE CAR INTO GEAR, AND ON THE TRUCK. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT THE ENTIRE GEAR SHIFT MECHANISM HAD TO BE REPLACED. THEY HAVE NOT TOLD ME WHY IT FAILED. WHEN THE CAR HAD 59,000 MILES I TOOK THE CAR INTO THIS SAME DEALERSHIP. AT T AT THAT TIME, THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION, STATING THAT THERE WAS A "CODE FAILURE". SINCE THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY, THE COST FOR REPAIR IS OVER $650. THEY HAVE NOT INDICATED WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE, ONLY THAT IT HAS TO BE REPLACED . SEEMS FUNNY THAT THIS WOULD FAIL RIGHT AFTER THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. *TR

  6. Air bags, Mar 30, 2015

AIR BAG OFF LIGHT COMES ON WITH PASSENGER IN SEAT. DEALER CHECKED, NO ISSUE FOUND. MONTHS LATER, LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON, DEALER FINALLY REPLACED SENSOR AND REPROGRAMMED CAR'S COMPUTER. AS OF TODAY, TWO YEARS LATER, LIGHT STILL TURNS ON. HAVE PICS OF AIR BAG OFF LIGHT ON WITH PASSENGER IN SEAT, AND LIGHT ON WITH NO PASSENGER IN SEAT. CAR NOW OUT OF 36,000 MILE WARRANTY, BUT HAVE APPOINTMENT WITH DEALER TO CHECK OUT AGAIN ON 04/14/2015. *TR

  7. Air bags, Mar 24, 2015

THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON WITH AN ADULT IN THE SEAT. NISSAN HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX IT NUMEROUS TIME WITHOUT SUCCESS. I QUESTION WHETHER THE BAG WILL GO OFF IN AN ACCIDENT. I WAS TOLD BY THE LOCAL DEALER THAT I SHOULD CALL CORPORATE AND RECORDED THE COMPLAINT. THEY SAID THEY WOULD GET BACK TO ME. *TR

  8. Air bags, Mar 24, 2015

I NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON (INDICATING NO ONE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT) WHEN AN ADULT WAS SITTING IN THE SEAT. I CALLED THE DEALER AND ALSO HEARD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. DEALER TOLD ME THAT A FIX WAS UNKNOWN AT THE TIME AND THAT I SHOULD WAIT FOR A RECALL NOTICE. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE MANY MONTHS LATER. I TOOK THE CAR IN AND SOMETHING WAS ADJUSTED/FIXED PER THE DEALER BUT PROBLEM WAS NOT RESOLVED. I WAS TOLD THAT I PROBABLY WAS NOT SITTING IN THE SEAT CORRECTLY OR I WAS UNDER WEIGHT. NEITHER ARE TRUE. DEALER RETESTED AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG BUT I STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM WITH THE INDICATOR LIGHT. I DO NOT FEEL CONFIDENT THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WOULD DEPLOY IF I HAD AN ACCIDENT. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. I HEARD RECENTLY ON TV THAT OTHER PEOPLE LIKE ME WERE STILL COMPLAINING. I THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT THIS PROBLEM MAY BE MORE WIDESPREAD SINCE I AM ALSO EXPERIENCING IT. HOPE I NEVER HAVE AN ACCIDENT IN THIS CAR! *TR

  9. Air bags, Mar 24, 2015

THE LIGHT THAT INDICATES MY PASSENGER FRONTAL AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IS COMING ON WHEN A NORMAL SIZED ADULT IS IN THE FRONT SEAT. APPARENTLY, THIS IS TIED TO A SENSOR WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO DISABLE THE AIR BAG IF SOMEONE HAS A SMALL CHILD (BETWEEN 30 LBS AND 80 LBS) IN THE FRONT SEAT DUE TO THE INCREASED RISK OF INJURY WITH AN AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR, IT HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 10% OF THE TIME I HAD AN ADULT IN THE FRONT SEAT. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE INTO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR THIS ISSUE. ONCE I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS INSPECTED WITH NO ISSUES FOUND. AND THE SECOND TIME, THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMED A RE-PROGRAMMING OF THE COMPUTER ACCORDING TO A TSB FROM NISSAN THAT THEY HAD ON FILE. SINCE THE RE-PROGRAMMING WAS DONE, THE FREQUENCY HAS INCREASED TO ROUGHLY 30% OF THE TIME AN ADULT IS IN THE FRONT SEAT. THE SIZE OF THE PASSENGER IS IRRELEVANT. IT HAPPENS EQUALLY OFTEN WHEN MY 135 LB WIFE IS IN THE FRONT SEAT AS IT DOES WHEN MY DAD OR FATHER-IN-LAW (BOTH ROUGHLY 180 LBS - 200 LBS) ARE IN THE FRONT SEAT. I LOVE THE CAR, BUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THE PREVIOUS RECALL/TSB HAS NOT RESOLVED OR EVEN IMPROVED THE ISSUE. IT ACTUALLY MADE IT WORSE. *TR

  10. Air bags, Mar 24, 2015

MY NISSAN DEALER SUPPOSEDLY SAID THEY FIXED A FAULTY PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR. SINCE THE "FIX" THE SENSOR IS SHOWING THAT THERE IS NO PASSENGER IN THE SEAT WHEN IN FACT THEIR IS SOMEONE RIDING THERE. WHEN I WENT FOR MY LAST ROUTINE OIL CHANGE ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO, I LET THEM KNOW OF THE PROBLEM BUT THEY SAID THAT I WOULD HAVE TO COME BACK AND SCHEDULE A DIFFERENT APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THIS FIXED. *TR

  11. Air bags, Mar 24, 2015

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATE INDICATING THAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WAS NOT ACTIVATED ALTHOUGH THE PASSENGER WAS SEATED IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM SOFTWARE. THE SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO INTERMITTENTLY OCCUR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000.

  12. Air bags, Mar 23, 2015

PASSENGER AIR BAG INDICATOR SAYS OFF WHEN AN ADULT IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE THE RECALL FIX WAS APPLIED. NISSAN DEALER HAS CHECKED THE SYSTEM MULTIPLE TIMES AND RECALIBRATED THE SENSOR MULTIPLE TIMES. HAPPENS RANDOMLY. CAN HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES IN 1 DAY AND SOMETIMES NOT OCCUR FOR 2 MONTHS. HAPPENS WHEN IT IS 0F OR 80F TEMPERATURE IN THE CAR. HAPPENS SOMETIMES WHEN YOU FIRST START THE CAR AFTER A COLD SOAK AND HAPPENS WHEN IT IS A WARM RESTART. I HAVE VIDEO RECORDED OF THIS INCIDENT UPLOADED TO A FILE SHARING SITE BOX.COM PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT THE WEB LINK FOR THE VIDEO FROM FEBRUARY 20, 2015 OF THIS EXACT MALFUNCTION. I AM MEETING WITH A NISSAN FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE ON MARCH 25, 2015 AT GANDRUD NISSAN IN GREEN BAY, WI TO DISCUSS THE ISSUE. NISSAN CASE #[XXX] A FEW WEEKS AGO [XXX] FROM NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS SAID NISSAN HAS NO FURTHER FIXES FOR MY ALTIMA. I TOLD HER IT WAS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE ANSWER. SHE SUGGESTED NISSAN INITIATE THE MANUFACTURER BUYBACK PROCESS AND THEY DECLINED TO BUY IT BACK AFTER EVALUATING THE NOTES ON MY CAR. PLEASE HELP GET THESE UNSAFE CARS OFF THE ROAD UNTIL THEY ARE SAFE. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

  13. Air bags, Mar 23, 2015

AIR BAG LIGHT STILL DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY. AN ADULT CAN BE SITTING IN THE PASSENGER AND IT COMES ON, AT TIMES NO ONE CAN BE IN THE SEAT AND IT STILL STAYS ON. *TR

  14. Air bags, Seats, Mar 23, 2015

SINCE I PURCHASED MY ALTIMA IN 12/2012, 90% OF THE TIME THE "PASS" PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON WHEN MY WIFE IS SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I HAVE HAD THE ALTIMA IN FOR REPAIRS ON THIS ABOUT 5 TIMES AT TAMAROFF NISSAN IN SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN, INCLUDING WHEN THERE WAS A RECALL. I'VE HAD IT LOOKED AT TWICE AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR AND IT IS STILL NOT FIXED. TAMAROFF HAS RELOADED SOFTWARE AND CHECKED THE SENSORS WITH NO LUCK. THEY FINALLY INDICATED THAT SINCE MY WIFE WEIGHS AROUND 110 POUNDS, SHE IS ON THE CUSP OF WHAT THE SENSOR WILL REACT TO. JOKINGLY, THEY INDICATED THAT IF SHE WOULD CARRY SOMETHING HEAVY IN HER LAP, SUCH AS A BOWLING BALL, THE PASS AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD NOT BE ACTIVATED. MY PREVIOUS ALTIMA NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. *TR

  15. Air bags, Mar 23, 2015

THIS HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE THE RECALL WORK WAS DONE ON MY CAR. WHEN DRIVING THE PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF LIGHT WILL TURN ON, EVEN WHEN AN ADULT PASSENGER IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I'VE TAKEN THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SYSTEM IS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE ONLY WAY I'VE FOUND TO FIX THIS ISSUE IS TO PULL OVER, TURN THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON. SOMETIMES IT TAKES MULTIPLE RESTARTS FOR RESOLVE THE ISSUE. *TR

  16. Air bags, Mar 23, 2015

THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OFF. THIS HAPPENS PERIODICALLY AND NOT ALL THE TIME. WE HAD TAKEN IT BACK TO NISSAN THREE DIFFERENT TIMES FOR REPAIR AND IT STILL DOES THE SAME THING. THE MOST RECENT EVENT WAS YESTERDAY MARCH 22, 2015. UPDATED 5/11/15*CN

  17. Air bags, Mar 23, 2015

THIS IS FOR THE CURRENT SAFETY RECALL ISSUE ON THIS MODEL. I HAD THE DEALER "FIX" THE INITIAL RECALL BUT HAVE HAD NUMEROUS INCIDENTS AFTERWARDS WITH THE AIRBAG. THIS INCLUDES THE AIRBAG LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY GOING ON/OFF WHILE MY WIFE IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. IN ADDITION I HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH NOTHING IN THE SEAT. I HAVE VIDEO AND PHOTO EVIDENCE OF THIS OCCURRING AFTER THE CAR WAS SENT TO NISSAN FOR THE INITIAL "FIX". WHEN THIS OCCURS I AM FORCED TO PULL OVER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO RESTART THE CAR. I HAVE TOLD MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER FACE TO FACE THAT I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THEIR CAR WHICH IS LEASED FROM THEM AND THEY DID NOT TAKE MY CONCERN SERIOUSLY. I BELIEVE I SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO RETURN THE CAR AND TERMINATE MY LEASE SINCE I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS AROUND IN THIS FAMILY SEDAN. THANKFULLY I HAVE NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENT BUT IT MAKES ME EXTREMELY NERVOUS IF AN ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR. *TR

  18. Air bags, Mar 23, 2015

WE HAVE HAD MULTIPLE INCIDENTS IN THIS VEHICLE OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG LIGHT NOT EXTINGUISHING, INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAG IS NOT ARMED, EVEN WITH AN ADULT PASSENGER SEATED AND BUCKLED. WE HAVE DEALT WITH THIS ISSUE ON AND OFF FOR AS LONG AS WE HAVE HAD THE CAR, DESPITE THE RECALL LAST YEAR APPARENTLY DESIGNED TO FIX THIS ISSUE. I DECIDED TO FILE A COMPLAINT TODAY BASED ON A NEWS ARTICLE I SAW THIS MORNING THAT INDICATES THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR MANY DRIVERS OF THIS VEHICLE. THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A LOGICAL REASON WHY SOMETIMES THE LIGHT GOES OUT AND SOMETIMES IT STAYS ON. THE CONCERN IS THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY PROPERLY IF IT IS EVER NEEDED. *TR

  19. Air bags, Mar 23, 2015

EVEN AFTER BEING REPAIRED FOR A RECALL, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT CONTINUES TO BE ON INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER DID A SIMPLE INSPECTION AND CLAIMED NO PROBLEM FOUND. THEY REFUSED TO PERFORM DETAILED INVESTIGATION UNLESS I PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSIS, BECAUSE THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. *TR

  20. Air bags, Mar 23, 2015

I HAVE TAKEN MY NISSAN ALTIMA 2013 TO PREMIER NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN FREMONT CA MULTIPLE TIMES FOR PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG INDICATOR, WILL REMAIN ON EVEN WHEN AN ADULT PASSENGER IS SITTING IN PASSENGER SEAT. NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN FREMONT CA HAS TRIED TO FIX THE PROBLEM MULTIPLE TIMES BUT PROBLEM STILL REMAINS SAME. ONLY THING THAT CHANGED WAS ME, THAT I STOPPED COMPLAINING ABOUT IT TO DEALERSHIP. TODAY I SAW THE NEWS THAT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS FOR OTHER PEOPLE SO I THOUGHT OF SUBMITTING A NEW COMPLAIN TODAY. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAIN ABOUT A YEAR AND HALF AGO. *TR

VEHICLE VIBRATES UP THROUGH STEERING WHEEL AT 2,000 RPM REGARDLESS OF SPEED. NISSAN DEALER AND NISSAN USA, INC. HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THIS IS A "CHARACTERISTIC" OF THE VEHICLE AND THAT THEY DO NOT INTEND TO REPAIR OR ADDRESS IN ANY MANNER. THIS IS DESPITE COMMENTS BY THE TECHNICIAN AT MIDDLETOWN NISSAN OF MIDDLETOWN, CT THAT HE'S NEVER SEEN A NISSAN ALTIMA EXHIBIT THIS MUCH VIBRATION BEFORE. I'VE STATED THAT NEITHER I OR MY WIFE FEEL SAFE IN THE CAR AND ARE NOW CONCERNED THAT A COMPONENT OF THE VEHICLE COULD VIBRATE LOOSE. *TR

THE GLOW IN THE DARK EMERGENCY TRUNK RELEASE HANDLE PULLED OFF. EITHER THE ANGLE AT WHICH IT WAS POSITIONED OR THE MATERIALS MADE IT SO FLIMSY THAT IT PULLED OFF WITHIN THE TRUNK. I THOUGHT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS BUT I CAN'T SEE ON. *TR

I WAS DRIVING NORTHBOUND ON MAXWELL ROAD NORTH OF HYNE ROAD IN BRIGHTON, MI. IN PREPARATION TO MAKE A 90 RIGHT HAND TURN TO STAY ON MAXFIELD, I APPLIED THE BRAKES WELL IN ADVANCE OF THE TURN. AFTER DOING SO, THE ABS BRAKES PULSED THE BRAKE PRESSURE REPEATEDLY RENDERING THE BRAKES USELESS. I TRIED TO COMPLETE THE TURN AND HALFWAY THROUGH THE TURN, I REALIZED I WAS HEADING AT ~45 RIGHT INTO A TREE. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE AND CUT THE WHEEL AS HARD AS I COULD TO THE LEFT. THE FRONT RIGHT BUMPER AND FENDER HIT THE TREE. I HAD CONSIDERED WRITING A COMPLAINT REGARDING THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL ON THIS VEHICLE PREVIOUSLY AS THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL INSTANCES WHERE I HAVE FEARED FOR MY SAFETY AS THE VEHICLE DOES NOT STOP IN A REASONABLE DISTANCE AND I HAVE ALMOST SLID INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION SEVERAL TIMES. ALSO, POWER TO THE WHEELS IS CUT MUCH MORE THAN WHAT IS REASONABLE WHEN STARTING ON DAMP OR SNOWY ROADS TO THE POINT THAT I FEAR PULLING OUT ONTO A ROAD AND HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THERE IS NO TRAFFIC FOR OVER A MILE. I BELIEVE THAT THE TUNING OF THE ABS SYSTEM AND TRACTION CONTROL SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED TO DETERMINE IF THERE IS AN ISSUE. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THEY ARE TURNED THIS WAY TO PROTECT THE CVT FROM ANY SORT OF IMPULSE DUE TO THE WHEELS SLIPPING AND THEN GRABBING PAVEMENT. *TR
