  9. EquipmentDec 21, 2017

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.

Chrysler will notify owners instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began February 14, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or Kidde customer service service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information. 10. Power train, automatic transmission, lever and linkage, column shiftDec 20, 2017

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of less than 10,000 lbs, 2011-2017 Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, 2009-2017 Ram 1500 and 2010-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks, all equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.

Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle software, inspect the BTSI, and, as necessary, replace it, free of charge. The recall began February 26, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T79.

  11. Air bagsMay 9, 2017

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Ram 1500, Ram 2500, and 2014-2016 Ram 3500 vehicles. Certain driving conditions, such as driving off-road or debris striking the vehicle may cause the roll rate sensor to trigger a fault within the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC). If this fault occurs, the rollover side curtain air bag and the seat belt pretensioner will be disabled from deploying.

If the rollover side curtain air bags and seat belt pretensioners are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a crash that necessitates activation of these safety systems.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the ORC software, free of charge. The recall began June 26, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T25.

If the seat cover impedes the air bag deployment, the seat thorax air bags may not provide adequate protection in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of a injury.

Chrysler will notify owners to remove the front seat covers and return them for a full refund. The recall began on July 1, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S30.

  15. Air bags, side/windowAug 21, 2015

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Ram 1500 Quad Cab trucks manufactured August 26, 2013, to August 8, 2015. The affected vehicles are equipped with side air bag inflatable curtains (SABIC) that may not fully overlap the C-pillars in the event of a vehicle crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 226, "Ejection Mitigation."

In the event of a vehicle crash, if a SABIC does not inflate as intended, there is an increased risk of injury to the rear seat occupant.

Chrysler will notify owners, dealers will inspect the right and left side air bag inflatable curtains (SABIC) for proper orientation and a foil patch will be installed on both sides of the headliner. One or both of the air bag inflatable curtains (SABIC) will be replaced if necessary. The recall began on October 7, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R47.

  16. Electrical system, 12v/24v/48v battery, cablesAug 14, 2015

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Ram 1500 diesel 4x2 trucks manufactured August 8, 2013, to July 2, 2015. The affected vehicles have a battery harness that may rub against the frame bracket for the right engine mount resulting in an electrical short.

If the harness shorts, the vehicle may stall and there is an increased risk of a fire.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to confirm that the battery harness is correctly routed and secured. Any harness that shows evidence of wear will be replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on October 8, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R43.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500, 2015 Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger, 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, and Dodge Durango, and 2013-2015 Dodge Viper vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with radios that have software vulnerabilities that can allow third-party access to certain networked vehicle control systems.

Exploitation of the software vulnerability may result in unauthorized remote modification and control of certain vehicle systems, increasing the risk of a crash.

Chrysler will notify and mail affected owners a USB drive that includes a software update that eliminates the vulnerability, free of charge. Optionally, owners may download the update to their own USB drive from http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ or take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for immediate installation. In an effort to mitigate the effects of this security vulnerability, Chrysler has had the wireless service provider close the open cellular connection to the vehicle that provided unauthorized access to the vehicle network. This measure may not have been implemented on all vehicles and does not address access by other means that will be remedied by the software update. The recall began on August 25, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R40.

In the affected vehicles, the side impact sensor calibrations may be overly sensitive, and as a result, the side air bag inflatable curtains and seat air bags may unexpectedly deploy and the seat belt pre-tensioners may activate.

Air bags that unexpectedly deploy increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the Occupant Restraint Control module calibration, free of charge. The recall began on September 8, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R23.

POWER STEERING HAS STARTED TO TURN HARD AT TIMES WHEN TURNING CORNERS. IT WILL TURN A LITTLE BIT FINE AND THEN BECOME EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN FOR ABOUT 6 INCHES ON THE STEERING WHEEL. IT WILL DO THIS 3 TIMES OR SO DEPENDING ON HOW SHARP YOU TRY TO TURN. IT HAPPEN A COUPLE TIMES LAST MONTH THEN WENT AWAY AND DROVE FINE. TODAY IT STARTED AGAIN. I WASN'T SURE I WAS GOING TO GET TURNED. IT HAS NOT GONE AWAY AS OF NOW. I JUST WENT OUT AND CHECKED. WE STATIONARY YOU CAN FEEL IT GRABBING A LITTLE. WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY IT CAN BE VERY TOUGH TO TURN. I HAVEN'T TRIED TO MAKE ANY SHARP TURNS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BUT AFTER EXITING THE INTERSTATE ON AN EXIT RAMP WITH A CURVE. AFTER TURNING THE WHEEL A FEW INCHES I CAN FEEL MORE TENSION THAN NORMAL. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A FAULTY ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING ASSIST THAT I SEE THERE IS A RECALL ON BUT NOT ON MY TRUCK.

AFTER THE RECALL AND NEW UPDATE FOR FUEL MILEAGE RATING. THERE IS A DELAY IN THE THROTTLE/TURBO WHEN APPLYING THE GAS PEDAL. THIS HAPPEN WHEN YOU ARE BETWEEN 10MPH AND 15MPH AND ARE AT A SLOW ROLL AND APPLY THE GAS. THEN ALL THE SUDDEN THE TRUCK WILL TAKE OFF AND REV WAY UP.

8HP70 8 SPEED TRANSMISSION FAILED @68,000 MILES. TOWED 5800 LB TOYHAULER FROM ABILENE TX TO RENO NV. WAS TAKING A DAY TRIP TO LAKE TAHOE (RV PARKED IN SPARKS) WHEN THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN SKIPPING GEARS. RECEIVED A U0102 CANBUS ERROR. CLEARING THE ERROR ALLOWED THE TRANSMISSION TO CONTINUE OPERATING BUT ONLY FOR A FEW MILES. FINALLY DROPPED IT OFF AT LITHIA CHRYSLER ON SATURDAY. FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRED ON SUNDAY (5TH JULY 20) SO FCA WILL NOT HONOR POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. USED MY EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THE TRANSMISSION BUT HAD TO PAY $470 EXPEDITED SHIPPING FEW. SUPPOSED TO GET TRUCK BACK FRIDAY. SO WE ARE STRANDED IN RENO WITHOUT A TRUCK.

MY VEHICLE WITH UNDER 70K MILES RECENTLY PURCHASED FROM A USED DEALER HAD A SEVERE PROBLEM THE GAS GAUGE SHOWED EMPTY A FEW MINUTES AFTER SHOWING 1/2 TANK I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A GAS STATION AND WAS NOT STRANDED ON THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AS TO IMPEDE TRAFFIC AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. WHEN I REFUELED AT THE GAS STATION IT SHOWED IT WAS NOT COMPLETELY EMPTY AS I WAS LEAD TO BELIEVE BY THE CLUSTER. AND THROUGH SEVERAL DISCUSSIONS AND DIAGNOSING IT WAS BELIEVED TO BE A FAULTY PART IN THE FUEL SYSTEM THAT TENDS TO FALSELY SHOW EMPTY.

RECENTLY COMPLETE THE AEM EMISSIONS FLASH NOW MY TRUCK HAS A SERIOUSLY THROTTLE DELAY UP TO 7 SECONDS, I EITHER SLUGGISHLY PULL INTO TRAFFIC AND HOPE NOT TO GET T BONED OR GIVE MYSELF AND PASSENGERS WHIPLASH WHEN I HAVE TO DEPRESS THE THROTTLE IN ORDER TO MAKE THE TRUCK MOVE. THIS OCCURS EVERY MORNING AND AFTERNOON WHEN GOING TO AND LEAVING WORK. AND THROUGHOUT DAY WHEN RUNNING ERRANDS. MANUFACTURE STATES THIS COULD BE CAUSED BY THE EMISSIONS UPDATE THEY PERFORMED.

I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE "DEATH WOBBLE" ANYTIME A BUMP IS HIT WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 40 MPH +, ON THE FREEWAY THE WOBBLE IS SO BAD THAT RECENTLY MY TRUCK BEGAN SWERVING ALL OVER THE ROAD AND ALMOST WENT OFF-ROAD, UNTIL I COULD REGAIN CONTROL OF THE TRUCK. A BUMP ON A TURN IS MUCH WORSE. I AM SO FEARFUL OF THE UNSAFE SHAKING OF THE FRONT END WHILE DRIVING HIGHER SPEEDS THAT I NOW AVOID THE FREEWAYS AND TAKE ALTERNATE ROUTES IF POSSIBLE.

ON 10/31/2019 , FCA ISSUED RECALL VB1/NHTSA 19V-757 , FOR A POSSIBLE FIRE HAZZARD ON 2014- 2019 RAM 1500 TRUCKS WITH THE ECODIESEL ENGINE. THEY DID NOT HAVE A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM , AT THAT TIME. IN EARLY APRIL OF 2020, I RECIEVED ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE, STATING PARTS WERE NOW AVAILABLE , AND TO CALL MY DEALER , TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE RECALL COMPLETED. WHEN I CALLED , THE DEALER SAID THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS, BUT WERE EXPECTING THEM TO BE SHIPPED SOON. THEY PUT ME ON A WAITING LIST, AND SAID THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN THE PARTS ARRIVED. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALER EVERY MONTH SINCE THEN, AND THEY STILL TELL ME, THEY CAN'T GET THE UPDATED PARTS, TO DO THE RECALL ON MY TRUCK. I CALLED, TWO DIFFERENT FCA DEALERS ON 6/18/2020, AND I'M GETTING THE SAME RESPONSE FROM THEM, NO PARTS AVAILABLE. MY TRUCK IS NOW, FIVE YEARS OLD, AND HAS 53K MILES, TWO OF THESE LEAKING EGR COOLERS, HAVE ALREADY BEEN REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. I NOW HAVE A CASE NUMBER WITH FCA, AND HAVE BEEN TOLD, MY DEALER WILL HAVE MY TRUCK REPAIRED SOMTIME IN EARLY JULY. THESE UPDATED PARTS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE AVAILIBLE TO FIX THE 2014 AND 2015 TRUCKS.THESE TRUCKS SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF THE ROAD. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO WAIT THIS LONG TO HAVE THIS DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE FIXED.

TL* THE CONTACT'S SON OWNS A 2015 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V757000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MICHIANA CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM FIAT (120 W MCKINLEY AVE, MISHAWAKA, IN 46545; 866-984-0064) WHERE THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE EGR HOWEVER, THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS NOT INSPECTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT AND INTAKE MANIFOLD FAILURE MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

  21. Steering, Jun 16, 2020

THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING DOES NOT WORK ON STARTUP WHEN THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE IS 65 DEGREES OR LOWER. THE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND THE POWER STEERING DOESN'T WORK. SOMETIMES WHEN LEFT RUNNING TO WARM UP FIRST AND THEN TURNED OFF AND THEN BACK ON THE POWER STEERING WILL WORK. SOMETIMES, THE TRUCK NEEDS TO BE DRIVEN A FEW MILES TO FULLY WARM UP THEN STOPPED, TURNED OFF AND STARTED BACK UP, THEN THE POWER STEERING WILL WORK. THIS WASN'T MUCH OF A PROBLEM WHEN I AM IN FLORIDA WHERE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK, BUT I AM VISITING IN MICHIGAN NOW IN JUNE WHEN TEMPERATURES ARE STILL GETTING DOWN AS LOW AS THE FORTIES AT NIGHT. THE PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED ONE WEEK AFTER I BOUGHT THE TRUCK. THE DEALERSHIP I HAVE TAKEN IT TO HERE IN MICHIGAN WANTS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING UNIT FOR ALMOST $2900 WHICH I DON'T UNDERSTAND BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING WORKS FINE WHEN IT IS WARM ON STARTUP. SO FAR, THE POWER STEERING HASN'T GONE OUT WHILE DRIVING. *TR

UPON PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT AND ONTO A DIVIDED HIGHWAY ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE INTO TRAFFIC THE TRUCK MADE NOISES AND THE ENGINE DIED, LEAVING ME TO COAST BACK INTO THE NEXT PARKING LOT ENTRANCE WHILE HOLDING UP TRAFFIC. THE FAILURE TURNED OUT TO BE THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION TONE RING. THE DESIGN OF THIS TONE RING IS A STAMPED STEEL WHEEL WITH MAGNETIC MATERIAL ADHERED TO THE RIM, IT APPEARS THAT HEAT AND TIME CAUSED THE MAGNETIC MATERIAL TO CRACK AND FAIL. ONCE A PIECE OF MAGNETIC MATERIAL CAME OFF, THE MOTOR NO LONGER HAS A PROPER CRANK POSITION SIGNAL AND WILL STOP RUNNING. ANOTHER DESIGN CONSIDERATION IS THAT THE TONE RING IS INACCESSIBLE WITHOUT REMOVING THE TRANSMISSION AND FLEXPLATE, THIS RENDERS IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO CHECK THE CONDITION OF THE TONE RING TO AVOID A FAILURE. *TR

ON MAY 31, 2020 I WAS TRAVELING FROM BALTIMORE, MD TO SAN ANTONIO TEXAS ON IH 85 SOUTH NEAR LEXINGTON, NC IN THE MIDDLE LANE AT 60 MPH WHEN MY VEHICLE TOTALLY SHUT DOWN TO A STOP. TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY BUT I SAFELY PULLED OFF TO THE SHOULDER AND CALLED FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. WE WAITED 3 HOURS BEFORE WE GOT A CAPABLE TOW FOR THE TRUCK AND THE U-HAUL WE WERE TOWING. THE TOW COMPANY TOWED MY TRUCK TO M&L CHRYSLER DODGE RAM DEALERSHIP IN LEXINGTON NC. THE NEXT MORNING ABOUT 8:00 AM, I CALLED THE CHRYSLER DODGE RAM DEALERSHIP FOR THE RESULTS OF THEIR DIAGNOSTICS. AROUND 11:00AM I CALLED BACK TO CHRYSLER DODGE RAM DEALERSHIP. THEY INFORMED ME THEY THINK THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM AND THEY NEEDED TO ORDER THE PARTS AND IT WOULD TAKE A FEW DAYS AND THAT IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE EMISSIONS RECALL V08 WARRANTY. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE WAS SAGGING, AND FAILED TO RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKE TO DISENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT. THE CONTACT MANUALLY PULLED THE PEDAL INSIDE THE VEHICLE FOR THE LIGHT TO DISENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FREEHOLD DODGE & RAM (299 SOUTH ST, FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, NJ 07728), AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE WAS RUSTED AND CEASED IN PLACE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,400.

EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE CONTINUOUSLY BREAKING OFF CREATING HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS. EXHAUST MANIFOLD GASES ARE LEAKING DIRECTLY INTO ENGINE BAY AROUND THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. UNFILTERED EXHAUST GASES ARE BYPASSING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS AND PASSING STRAIGHT TO THE ATMOSPHERE. CHRYSLER IS REFUSING TO ADDRESS THE SITUATION AND CHARGING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX IT EVERY TIME IT BREAKS. THE ISSUE ALSO THROWS THE VEHICLE COMPUTER INTO AN OPEN LOOP DUE TO FAULTY O2 READINGS NEGATIVELY IMPACTING FUEL AND PERFORMANCE CAUSING FURTHER POLLUTION AND EMISSIONS NEGATIVELY IMPACTING ENVIRONMENT AND HEALTH OF OCCUPANTS. AFTER CHARGING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO 'FIX' THE ISSUE THEY MERELY REPLACE BROKEN PARTS WITH THE EXACT TYPE AND MATERIAL THAT FAILED PREVIOUSLY. THE MANIFOLD/EXHAUST ISSUE IS INDEPENDENT OF ANY VEHICLE MOTION OR DRIVING CONDITION. RUNNING THE ENGINE IN ANY CONDITION WILL CAUSE THE FAILURE DUE TO DISSIMILAR METALS USED AND DIFFERENCE IN METALS MOVEMENT AS IT HEATS AND COOLS. PRESENTLY THIS IS THE 10TH BOLT BROKE OFF. IT HAS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY SINCE OWNING VEHICLE. *TR
