Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, Corolla, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid, Lexus ES350, Lexus RX350, Lexus RX450H, 2021 Sienna Hybrid, Lexus ES250, 2020-2022 Camry, Camry Hybrid, and ES300H vehicles. A short circuit may develop in the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor, preventing the front passenger air bag from deploying.
An air bag that does not deploy during a crash increases the risk of injury.
Dealers will inspect and replace the sensor as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed in February 2024. Some final remedy owner letters were mailed October 31, 2024. Letters will continue to be mailed in phases through January 2026. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. The low-pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.
If the fuel pump fails, the engine can stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump assembly with an improved one, free of charge. Owners of specific models were notified that remedy parts were available starting January 21, 2021. Owners of other models will be notified as remedy parts become available. Remedy parts should be available for all affected vehicles by late March 2021. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2020 Toyota Avalon Hybrid, Camry, Camry Hybrid and Lexus ES300h and 2019-2020 RAV4 and RAV4 Hybrid vehicles equipped with 2.5L 4-Cylinder engines. Porosity in the engine castings may result in cracks than can allow coolant to leak internally and/or externally.
A coolant leak can cause the engine to overheat and cause a vehicle stall in conventional gasoline vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, for all involved vehicles, the engine may get damaged mechanically, possibly resulting in an engine oil leak, increasing the risk of a fire.
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the engine including the engine block, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began April 3, 2020. A car turned in front of my daughter and her boyfriend. They were going 40 MPH and there is severe damage to the front of the vehicle. The car will be totaled. Not one air bag deployed. All first responders were very surprised and cautious that even them exiting the damaged vehicle could set them off. They were told "not to move" until they could investigate a safe way for them to leave the car.

I purchased my Toyota Camry 2020 in 2021. I am at 56k miles and my car hasn’t started up without a jump for three weeks now. Car battery and alternator checked in excellent condition but somehow battery always drained. Found out that there was a bulletin back in 2020 on this issue that I was never made aware of so now I’m past 36 and Toyota states I have to pay for the update needed to keep my car running which is ridiculous because had I received this update upon purchase in 2021 this wouldnt have happened. This car is brand new and for them to say I have to pay for this Issue they have neglected to take care of is unfair. There should be a class action suit against Toyota for this.

The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the front end of the vehicle made abnormal exploding sounds and there was smoke coming from under the hood. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the battery had exploded, and the battery was replaced. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the message "Pre-collision Warning Malfunction” was intermittently displayed. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving on another occasion, the message "Maintenance Required" and messages indicating the Pre-collision, Anti-Lock and ABS malfunction, and to contact the nearest dealer were displayed. The contact also stated that an alarm persistently sounded. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the failure was due to rodents damaging electrical wires. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a second opinion, and the mechanic determined that the failure was caused by the acidic residues that remained in the hood after the battery explosion. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer to be repaired. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 74,480.

Car has a fuel pump or fuel system and Central Florida Toyota has not fixed it even after taking it 2 times to the dealership.

2020 Camry has 34000 miles and the engine maintenance required comes on. The dealer says it is the coolant bypass valve. They will replace it but after looking online there are many reports of this happening to toyotas with low mileage. Coolant can corrode the electric components.

Engine: Fault Code P268115 - Engine Coolant Bypass Valve Control Circuit/Open: Circuit Short To Battery or Open. This is a huge ongoing problem with Toyota vehicles. You can do a simple search and find 100s of people with the same issue. This must be addressed and a recall issued for repair.

Incident: Just driving along when all of a sudden, the car engine turned off and check engine light came on along with warnings about brake system failures, fuels system failures and message to contact your dealer. Any attempts to restart the car failed. The vehicle was a 2020 toyota camry xse with 75000 miles. The vehicle was inoperable. CAUSE: There is a small air intake resonator box that connects to the air flow between the air filter compartment and the throttle. This resonator is made of plastic and the part that connects to the airflow main tube, had cracked and broken off and the broken piece got stuck in the throttle causing the vehicle to become disabled. This part is never touched when performing air filter maintenance and it was determined that over time, it just cracked and eventually broke off. This is a defect in the design and if this had happened at highway speeds could have had serious consequences.

The vehicle started losing motive power and became difficult to control and pulled to the center lane unintendedly. The contact stated that moments later the failures ceased, and the vehicle started to operate as intended. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Recently the failure reoccurred, and the dealer determined that the failure was caused by a faulty battery. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 32,000.

I was driving the car without any issue or problem. All of a sudden the sunroof glass shuttered. It sounded like a blast. When I stopped the car, the sunroof was broken to small pieces.

sunroof and its now at the shop for repair. My safety was put at risk if because it sound as a gunshot and could have cause me to swerve into another line. If the sunroof had been open the glass could of cut me. unknown if the problem has been reproduced or confirmed. it has been inspected by the shop that's doing the repair. No warnings at all. I was traveling down the road and heard something that sounded like a gun shot. It then sounded like a window was open. Once I got home I inspected my car and pulled back the shade and realize the sunroof was shattered in pieces. If I had my sunroof open the glass could of fell in on me. I called my insurance company and they didn't inspected but ordered parts to fix it. They originally told me it would be a 0 dollar deductible. Now the car is in the shop to be repaired, I'm told they found other things and I would have to pay a $500 deductible now.

My dash constantly makes this buzzing sound coming around the center of the dash. It is highly distracting and has almost caused me multiple incidents trying to stop the noise and find out where exactly it’s coming from. Yes it’s been reproduced by others.

The contact stated that the transmission was skipping gear with the gear selector erroneously indicating that the transmission was in neutral while driving. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the transmission wiring harness was faulty. The wiring harness was replaced but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,780. The consumer stated she no longer has possession of the vehicle.

Coolant bypass valve My check engine light turns on when the AC is activated. I took it to my dealership on 5/22/2023 and was informed there’s a back order on the coolant bypass valve because it is a national issue. My car has been determined as unsafe to drive until the part can be replaced in 2-3 weeks.

The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that all four doors on the vehicle failed to lock or unlock as needed. The contact stated that the failure initially started with the rear passenger’s side door after the door failed to unlock with the key fob. The contact attempted to unlock the door with the button on the driver side door, but the doors failed to open. The failure then occurred with all four doors, with an abnormal squeaking sound coming from the doors while attempting to unlock the doors. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed her that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

Did not happen to this vehicle, but others the same year. I am a tech who has seen multiple failures of the crankshaft position plate which is mounted between the flywheel and crankshaft brake causing engine to shut down while driving due to crank position sensor not receiving signal. I am concerned because my wife drives one which is the vin I gave, that her car may cut off in traffic causing a accident. This part is defective with holes cut around it where the new replacement part is solid.This should be replaced at no cost to customers when vehicle warranty coverage has run out. Information below is for a vehicle that I worked on and have seen 3 others. One resulting in engine & transmission replacement due to excessive damage from plate coming apart. I work for Toyota & don't want my identity shared with them.

Shortly after purchase, the air conditioner smells moldy. The filter has been replaced, yet the unpleasant mold smell is still there. The dealer ignores my complaints. I am allergic to mold, and it has triggered my asthma, and I am now using an inhaler while driving my passenger car, which can cause an accident. Please look into this problem which has been reported for years as I researched this apparent over site. I love the automobile otherwise.

Car is just above 36 k and gave me engine light on not wanting to turn the engine on . I called a mechanic to stop by and maybe reset the computer …so much I know(the dash board was giving me a hybrid system failure) but the reader said its fuel pump control circuit low ,witch on the other hand is not allowing the car to start of and somehow related to the vehicle stability module and break system not mentioning a solenoid problem as well…

Several times when I was driving without cruise control down the hill from our home, the car's automatic brake turned on when I passed another car. The car incorrectly sensed that I was going to hit or be hit by the passing car and the automatic emergency brake turned on. Nothing happened except I was startled and puzzled. I was driving less than 30 mph on a residential street.

While driving the Camry at 45 mph among the flow of traffic on a state highway in Florida, out of the blue the vehicle's speedometer on the instrument cluster was replaced with a flashing red box and the brakes applied themselves fully with no command or input given whatsoever. The Camry immediately screeched to a stop in the middle of the road within a couple seconds, causing the vehicle behind me to slam into the Camry at full speed. There were no other vehicles or obstacles ahead of me at all, this fact was also observed by witnesses. The automation had triggered for no apparent reason, overriding my control of the Camry and stopping it in the middle of a major highway, causing the accident. Despite the intensity of the crash, the air bags of the vehicle failed to deploy in the impact, worsening the severity of my injuries. Both the Camry and the other motorist's car were rendered inoperable and totaled in the accident, they had to be towed from the scene. The police ruled the cause of the accident to be vehicular malfunction of the Camry.

My engine maintenance light go to dealer came on. Not for the oil change. I went to have my code ready and it said fuel pump. I usually get 340 to 350 on a full tank. Now I’m get like 305…302….and I smell gas.

My sunroof exploded with outward shards for no apparent reason while driving so an impact from road debris seem unlikely. Dealer.inspected and says it's not a warranty issue and to file a comprehensive claim with my insurance. I have read that exploding sunroofs are a problem with some Toyotas. But Toyota refuses to address the problem. Thankfully as startling as the incident was it didn't make me have an accident but could see others may not be so lucky
