General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2015 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles. The ball joints in the windshield wiper module may corrode, causing one or both windshield wipers to fail.
Inoperative windshield wipers can reduce visibility in certain driving conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect the wiper module, and repair or replace it as necessary, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed on April 21, 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed on October 25, 2022. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. My wife was driving our 2014 Equinox on the highway at night in the rain, and the wipers just stopped working. The wiper motor would still whine, but the wipers were not moving. I found the larger arm that connects the wiper motor to the wipers had fallen off - both ends. I tried snapping it back in, but the plastic ball joints were really loose. I checked for active recalls, and there wasn't one for our VIN, but there were for similar models, so I replaced the wiper transmission myself for $121.99 plus tax. The car has 64,000 miles. Now, 2 weeks later, there is a recall. The letter says "corrosion". There is no corrosion. The plastic socket just wore out (prematurely). Maybe bad type of plastic or the lube was too abrasive.

Excessive oil consumption leading to engine failure. Timing chain had to be replace once already . Now I have to top off my oil once every 500 miles.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed of low oil level and engine failure. The vehicle was repaired; however, failure reoccurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the air bag warning light remained illuminated constantly. Additionally, the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. After inspecting the vehicle, there was no oil leak found, nor was there a burning oil odor detected. The contact stated that she had to top off the oil on a weekly basis. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 149,000.

Excessive oil consumption leading to engine problems, causing car to stall intermittently and unexpectedly. CAM shaft actuator repaired/ replaced 4 times in one year. Car has stopped in busy intersections.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the rear main seal had blown on three separate occasions. The failure occurred each time at start-up. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the rear main seal was replaced twice, however, on the third failure there were additional damages done to the vehicle, and the contact was informed that the engine and transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was unknown.

At 129,000 miles the car threw a p0420 code for the catalytic converter being bad. Yes, it is available for inspection. The car burns up oil like it gets paid for it at about the rate of a quart every other week or so which is a known issue for this type of vehicle but Chevy refuses to issue a recall for this year for some reason. The catalytic converter failure is directly related to the excessive engine oil consumption. The check engine light is illuminated.

My son was driving on I75 and University Dr in MI and all of a sudden there was a loud noise when everything shut down-power steering, hazard lights, etc and with no dashboard emergency warning light. He is strong and was able to get it to the side of the road. And he could have been stuck in fast moving traffic. The dealer Moran Chevy said it was a problem with the main rear valve PVC? Getting water in it and freezing causing engine to be destroyed. Online a number of complaints with same problem. TSB 14882 GM replaced some VIN number engines but not others including my Equinox.

In summer of 2021, the car was making a noise when driving, then it started lurching forward when stopped at a light or stop sign with foot on pedal. Took it to dealer and they said the timing belt needed to be replaced, which I had them replace. A few months later, same thing was happening so I took it back and was told that the problem now was that the engine was burning oil and I needed to check the oil every 1000 miles. I have since driven it less than 4000 miles and have had to put 3 quarts of oil in car. I understand that GM issued letters to 2013 Equinox owners about this problem but not 2014 owners. Based on reading the complaints in this website, I think its safe to say that its a problem with the 2014 models as well.

Recently the "check engine light came on, scheduled the car for service at the local GM dealership. The car only has 67700 miles on it, and the timing belt needs to be replaced. I believe this is ridiculous, this shouldn't be an issuse at all. The cost to repair the timing chain with labor is arounf the 2k mark. I understand this to be a problem with this engine type, and was advised to submit a complaint.

The rear oil seal busted and was losing oil,which as you know if your out and about and this happens it can damage or lock up your engine.And GM sent out a service bulletin about this problem but won’t cover my repair because our Vin# doesn’t show up,but it clearly says 2010-2014 Chevy Equinox .

Issue started 31-Dec-21 left windshield wiper stopped working while driving. Took suv in for repair and was told they were unable to repair as the entire blade and motor would have to be replaced I was referred to the dealership; dealership would have to order the part and not open on weekends. A week later the wiper started working. January 16, 2022, Ive tried to not use the wipers but I got caught in a storm 1.5hrs away from home. I had no choice I put my wipers on the lowest setting with the delay and put on my flashers and just drove in the slow lane. The wipers stopped 30min into my drive and eventually popped off completely it is now resting on my side mirror. I eventually had to pull over and have the vehicle towed. It was just no way to drive in that condition.

There are SO many problems with my 2014 Equinox. It's been one thing after another. My windshield wipers quit working in the middle of a storm that caused me to run off the road and wreck my car. My drivers side window was stuck down and wouldn't go up for days! Now, I just found out the engine needs to be replaced, 4,000.00 I dont have. These vehicles go through oil like its gas! The Service stabilitrak warning came on, followed by Reduce engine power, and the car dies. I've been stranded in the middle of the road a few times. I don't understand how there are NO RECALLS on these vehicles. They are so dangerous!

1. Malfunction: engine assembly consumes oil. yes can be inspected 2.Safety; engine could seize while driving and cause an accident because of power fire and vehicle coming to an abrupt stop. 3. NO, but the manufacturer did settle a lawsuit due to the same problem on previous year models. Engine components were found to be of poor quality causing premature failure. 4. When checking oil. oil was low. Oil becomes burnt very quickly. Also oil consumption is beyond belief. consumed 2 quarts of oil from Williams Az. to Los New Mexico approximately 350-360 miles. The problem has become more severe over time.

My 2014 Equinox is going through engine oil so frequently. I have to put at least a quart in every time I fuel up. My oil light that indicates when I am low on oil never comes on. It never warns me that I am low and I first figured it out after my engine started to make a clicking noise when I had my engine oil changed only 3 weeks before that and I had no oil left in my vehicles engine. It does not leak the oil as I never have a puddle under my car. It does not burn it out the exhaust. This is a huge issue and safety concern as it can potentially damage my engine causing more money worth of damage than the vehicle itself is worth and leaving me stranded on the side of the road and without a vehicle is not okay, especially with children potentially being stranded. If my car were to break down due to this issue then I am a sitting duck on the side of the Highway/freeway for other cars to potentially hit me.

My engine currently burns a large amount of oil and I consistently have to refill it. I see this is a common problem with the 2014 Chevy Equinox with the 4 cylinder, 2.4 liter engine and I feel should constitute a recall. The only alternative would be I must pay for my engine to be replaced.

While driving the vehicle at about 30 miles an hour it stalled. Engine just shut off, but restarted. Then at the next stop light it stalled out again, but restarted. I was about 2 miles from a place I could pull over, when I did pull over, the car would not start again. Had to have it towed to a repair shop, where I was told that I needed a whole new engine. The check engine light never came on, in fact no lights every came on to indicate an issue of any kind. I got my oil changes regularly. This is not safe vehicle. Two different repair shops have looked at the vehicle. Both are in agreement that there is no compression left in the engine. Both repair shops have told me that they have repaired at least 8-15 Chevy's with this same issue. After investigating this issue, it seems to be KNOWN one. Not sure why Chevy isn't standing by their product.

While I was driving in heavy rain my windshield wipers popped and stopped working, later I found that the windshield wiper motor had fail. I've never had this happen to any vehicle I've owned.

The contact was able to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle started shuddering while driving. The vehicle then stalled without warning. The contact continued driving to her residence. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who inspected the vehicle but could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired.
