  8. Electrical system, 12v/24v/48v battery, cablesDec 12, 2019

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. The battery positive (B+) cable rings may have been manufactured with excessive glue, potentially causing an intermittent electrical connection between the B+ cable and alternator.

An intermittent electrical connection between the B+ battery cable and the alternator could cause the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. The intermittent connection could also lead to electrical arcing, which could generate sufficient heat to damage surrounding material, increasing the risk of a fire.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect for the presence of glue or other contamination at the B+ cable attachment to the alternator and clean the connection and reattach the B+ cable connection, as necessary. If arcing has damaged the cable, nut, or alternator, the dealer will replace the damaged components. All services will be performed free of charge. GM issued owners an interim notification on February 4, 2020. GM issued second notice and the recall began March 9, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267. GM's number for this recall is N192273510.

  1. Electrical system, Feb 19, 2025

When the engine turns on the ESC light come up and start beeping. While driving the light goes off and later on while driving it appears that ESC is off after 1-2 minutes its says ESC is on again.

  2. Engine, Feb 18, 2025

Total engine failure on interstate in North Carolina

  3. Power train, Electrical system, Service brakes, Feb 14, 2025

I noticed up on start up a warning light comes on & display says brake system failure 62 MPH then goes away. I have been reading numerous other reviews online that they are experiencing the same issue. 2nd problem is when I bought the vehicle I noticed numerous oil spots on the tailgate, I asked a GM representative & they said it was road grime, but I noticed the rear pinon is leaking, so it's been leaking since I bought the truck & the dealership either doesn't know it's a known issue or they didn't want to come out & say it.

  4. Service brakes, Feb 14, 2025

While driving going at a speed of 60 mph on the highway my brakes stopped working, anti locks weren’t working. ABS light came on and it also said brake system failure and to Go at max speed 65 mphs. This put myself and my daughter greatly at risk!Vehicle could not stop. Now the system shows no issues and all warning dashboard lights are off (ABS) I did find a recall online for this same issue for 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500

  5. Engine, Feb 13, 2025

The valves, pistons, head gaskets are all affected and malfunctioned. They caused burning of the oil and loss of coolant. I took it to the sister dealership of where I purchased it to track the leak and they stated that it was fixed. Upon picking it up and driving it to my home and then right back to the dealership (apprx 12 miles) the truck was making big enought plumes to where it was making other operators pull over or cough. I was following behind the truck to video record and it was producing so much I could not see and had to close my vents to not cough. Our oil said 65 % but decided to check it and there was barely any oil present. Had it towed to the dealership and after picking it up it was only worse than before. This is a safety issue. An emissions issue also. Thank you.

  6. Service brakes, Feb 11, 2025

Traveling on the highway at 70 mph the rear wheels (brakes) locked up nearly causing a collision. I found a couple of recalls notices for 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500, but nothing posted for 2019 Chevy Silverado. The vehicle was taken immediately to the dealership for evaluation and repair. The tow/haul mode light blinked on and then off. At no time was the tow haul mode manually engaged. My understanding is the vehicle’s Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) software could have an error that should be covered under a recall. Upon inspection and repair the dealership found codes for the brake system control module lost communication with multiple modules and found low voltage codes. They replaced the battery and updated the BSCM. I believe Chevrolet should extend the recall to 2019 models and hopefully this report will cause action to be taken and prevent accidents in the future.

  7. Power train, Feb 11, 2025

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle jerked and briefly lost motive power before slamming into gear. The check engine warning light was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle returned to normal functionally, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The contact stated that weeks before the failure the oil pump was replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

  8. Power train, Feb 11, 2025

Transmission slips going into 1st. Then when it shifts to the next gears it shudders. It is available for inspection but I have not taken it to a service center. No lamps and messages are present.

  9. Engine, Feb 8, 2025

Lifters are bad in engine. Currently at shop getting repaired if possible. Potentially need to replace engine. On a 5 year old truck.

  10. Power train, Feb 7, 2025

Vehicle has vibration at speeds of 40 and above. Vehicle shifts harshly and feels as if it’s constantly searching for a gear. You can feel transmission clunk when it shifts. Upshifts and downshifts at cruising speeds.

  11. Service brakes, Hydraulic, Engine, Feb 6, 2025

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with a failed electronic brake control module. The contact was informed that the electronic brake control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 71,396.

  12. Power train, Feb 6, 2025

Transmission, chunks, shutters, took in to gm dealership and they could not find issue 30,000 miles, continued same problem 71,000 miles now needs Transmission replaced.

  13. Engine, Feb 5, 2025

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the contact heard an abnormal popping sound coming from the engine. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed and determined that the cylinder #6 exhaust lifter had failed, causing damages to the camshaft. The damage to the camshaft allowed metal debris to enter the engine. The engine was being rebuilt and the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

  14. Electrical system, Feb 4, 2025

My DIC showed a message of Shift to Park. This has prevented me from turning my truck off. I have been stranded on a couple of occasions until finally I was able to push the Stop/Start button to turn my truck off. Also has prevented me from locking my truck at times. The fact that I can't turn my truck is a real safety problem and also creates the possibility of it rolling down hill. Being stranded is the worst part and if I can't turn my truck off at some point the battery is going to go dead. There are several bulletins out on at least 5-6 GM cars with this problem - #19-NA-206 and 04-00-89-053 from engineering. I finally to feel safe I had to go to my local Chevy store and get it fixed costing me 563.24 plus tax. I need to be reimbursed for this as GM has been aware of this problem since 2018.

  15. Power train, Engine, Feb 4, 2025

While driving on the highway with my four year old with me the truck jerked and then triggered 3 lights on my dashboard, this made getting to a safe spot uneasy as it was jerking and sounded like it was reving up and down and overall sounded not good. Truck was towed to mechanic and was discovered the lifter failed due to the Active Fuel Management (AFM) or Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM) in that engine model. That failure caused further engine damage to the cam shaft and needs an entire rebuild of the top part of the engine. There were no other indicators that this would happen until it did. I contacted Chevy and they are aware of the situation and offered "cost assistance" only if it was brought to a GM dealership. Given the engine had to be taken apart to figure out what was wrong they said the only way to get assistance was to have the garage put it back together and then tow it there and have their mechanics look at it to determine if they could cover part of it. This isn't a viable option to me seeing how there isn't a guarantee of any assistance and would potentially cost more long term.

  16. Steering, Feb 3, 2025

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at slow speeds, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact was unaware of a warning light being illuminated. The contact stated that the failure persisted upon turning off and restarting the vehicle. The contact stated that the power steering functionality returned after resuming driving. The contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently, and the failure occurred mostly while driving in 4WD Mode. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure via email, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000.

  17. Engine and engine cooling, Feb 3, 2025

The oil cooler line on this vehicle is faulty- they Crimp that crimps the hose to the metal parts breaks off. This is common in this vehicle (after it happened to me, I started to read on this and thousands of customers have had this issue). My oil exited my vehicle and upon replacing the part on my own (after towing, parts and labor cost), the engine would not crank. Come to find out that the engine seized up (locked). GMC/CHEVROLET is not taking any responsibility for this. There is a customer satisfaction program for this as it is a known issue as stated, specially in the colder parts but apparently my VIN did not get affected by this. This needs to be looked at as it very costly for a customer.

  18. Engine, Feb 1, 2025

The engine locked up and left me in a dangerous place in road just quit running with no warning i am currently getting repaired out of my pocket so the file up loaded is the estimate

  19. Engine, Jan 30, 2025

Engine seized on 2 separate occasions and was reported to have repairs before we purchased also. Chevrolet took the truck both times, the first attempted repair claimed lifter issues. The second repair they replaced the engine.

  20. Power train, Electrical system, Engine, Jan 29, 2025

I purchased this vehicle after my first 2019 chevrolet silverado trail boss's BCM dealined the vehicle after owning it 32 days. The vehicle with VIN [XXX] has had multiple engine failures causing the vehicle to be deadlined at the dealership for in excess of sixty days. The transmission is now failing as well. I am on my 2nd engine failure issue and the dealership refuses to acknowledge the problem. While under engine failure my vehicle would misfire causing the engine to stall and buck around like a wild horse. The electrical system on this vehicle is a complete catastrophe. The windows refuse to roll up once in the down position more often than not, the tailgate intermittently drops and closes on its own, the notifications on the dash always indicate the tailgate is down even when it is in the upright position, the lane change assist and parking detection intermittently work causing faulty detection when backing in/out of parking and changing lanes on the highway endangering the public, and all while these issues persist the "check engine" light never illuminates. Even when my truck had to be towed into the dealership the check engine light never came on. I have had this vehicle sine 43000 miles and now have 115000 miles and every oil change i have done(I am a shop owner and technician) has had metal shavings in the drained oil that has got past the filter due to the IMPROPER engine repair done by BEAVER CHEVROLET when my engine failed the last time. It is best practice to drain all the oil, remove engine from vehicle and replace the oil pump and pickup after cleaning the engine internally while disassembled to ensure no metal contaminants are inside the engine. Chevrolet simply replaces the broken components and doesn't do the proper procedure when an internal component fails, call any machine shop in any city across america and ask what the procedure is when a camshaft or bearing fails in a motor is. It is 100% not what chevrolet did for me. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  21. Engine, Jan 27, 2025

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the "Low Oil Pressure" message illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer and the contact was informed that the message was because the vehicle had not been driven. The contact stated that the failure persisted; however, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine oil cooler line was fractured. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and the contact was informed that the repair would not be covered under warranty or recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact referenced Customer Satisfaction Program: N192220080 as a possible cause for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000. The VIN was not available.

  22. Engine, Jan 24, 2025

My complaint is regarding faulty oil lines that are known to be defective by GM/Chevy. The oil lines begin to leak in colder weather and according to discussion boards, have even been known to come off completely while at speed and purging all of the oil from the vehicle. This can result in the almost immediate seizure of the engine and loss of control of the vehicle.   GM/Chevy acknowledges there is a problem with these oil lines by their creation of a Customer Satisfaction Hotline around 2021 instead of doing a full recall. My 2019 chevy silverado 1500 is experiencing the exact same issues with the oil lines as stated by hundreds of other customers. I have contacted both GM and my local dealership and have been turned away advising my 2019 Silverado was not part of the right "build number" associated with the special coverage that they voluntarily created to avoid the full recall of all 2019 and possibly more model years with defective and dangerous oil lines. As reported previously, the oil lines are likely to begin to fail in colder weather which could make for more dangerous conditions should they fail completely and come off of the engine. Although GM states my vehicle is not part of the conditional coverage, my lines began to fail a few weeks ago as my temps dropped well below freezing.

  23. Service brakes, Jan 24, 2025, crash

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH on the highway, the vehicle failed to stop as intended while depressing the brake pedal due to traffic. The contact was rear-ended and pushed into the vehicle in front. The contact depressed the parking brake and merged to the side of the road. The air bags were not deployed. The contact suffered no injuries. The service parking brake warning light and brake system failure illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

  24. Engine, Jan 24, 2025

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The dealer was contacted, and the vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the lifters were faulty and the engine needed to be replaced. The engine was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

  25. Power train, Jan 24, 2025

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the gear shift lever was shifted to park(P); however, the gear shift lever failed to function as intended. The contact stated that a shift to park error message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed gear shift lever. The contact was informed that the gear shift lever needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact had received minimal financial assistance with the cost of the repair. The failure mileage was 70,000.
