The motor seized. My life was at risk. I was on the highway. The vehicle was reported to the Chevy dealership and diagnose that the motor is locked.
Engine, Aug 14, 2026
* Engine/ Yes available for inspection. * Has not happened yet, however the risk exists. * Yes, oil consumption and has been confirmed by dealer and monitored every 1,000 miles. * Been inspected by local dealer only. * Yes, low oil pressure light came on. I was 2 qtrs. LOW, XXX My vehicle was inspected and according to them "passed". 0W-40 was introduced and a new oil cap indicates the change. GM explains that it is acceptable to burn up to 2 qtrs. of oil between oil changes. They have me come to the dealer every 1,000 miles to check the oil level. I came back from a work-related function, putting approx. 220 miles. It was time for oil level inspection, and my engine was found to be 1/2qtr. LOW. I ask them to top it off and I was told; “we do not stock this oil in bulk; you have to buy a qt. and we'll put it in." I have been a car owner since I was [XXX], now [XXX] and have never heard such nonsense in my life. In fact, in my lifetime, I have NOT experienced engine burning oil. This is a 6.2 liter with 57,700 and my fear is that something catoptric will happen to the motor resulting in no recourse. I was driving down the road and all of a sudden the check engine light came on, the check the parking brake light came on, and the service electronic stability control system light came on. The engine then started making a knocking sound. These trucks have a known lifter issue. I had a 2021 that had the same problem. It was still under warranty so I was able to get out from under it. This one isn’t and they want $9,000 to replace the engine. There is a recall on the 6.2 liter but not for the 5.3 liter for some reason. These engines have an issue
Engine, Aug 10, 2026
While driving 65mph on the highway the engine locked up and shut down. There was a loss of propulsion and steering making it difficult to safely maneuver off the highway.
Engine, Aug 4, 2026, fire
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH and towing a trailer on Route 16 with his children inside the vehicle, within 10 minutes of driving, there was smoke coming from underneath the vehicle and entering the cabin. There were no warning lights illuminated. The driver pulled over safely. Additionally, the contact stated that there was no issue prior to the failure. First responders arrived on the scene but were unable to use fire extinguishers to contain the fire. The contact called 9-1-1. Within approximately 10 minutes, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames, which reached an estimated height of 10 feet. A Police report and a Fire Department report were filed. The driver and his two children sustained smoke inhalation. The contact's daughter was vomiting; however, medical attention was not provided. The contact stated that a nearby vehicle and the trailer were damaged from the fire. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.

Engine sudden loss of propulsion while driving on interstate w/out warning. Pulled to side and check engine light and hot oil warning came on prior to engine dying. Had to call tow and dealer says engine needs to be replaced but they won’t ship vehicle back after repair and it’s 4 hours from my house, that I need to pick it up
Engine, Jul 13, 2026
While traveling at night on the highway at excess of 70mph the engine in my 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 6.2L L87 experienced a sudden, complete mechanical failure and loss of propulsion while driving. There were no warning lights, sounds or any other indication the motor would instantly stop working. This created an immediate crash hazard for me, my children and my dog. The vehicle is completely inoperable and I paid $125 to have it towed home. Upon talking to the dealership service ce manager they are refusing to inspect/replace my engine under Safety Recall N252494001. The same dealer is also requiring a large diagnostic fee prior to looking at the vehicle and has stated they will require additional fees as needed. They also refused to provide a loaner vehicle.

Intermittent knock on start up. Goes away within 10-15 seconds of continuous run. Same noise would also reoccur when towing a load.
Engine, Jul 10, 2026
Vehicle's replacement motor from GM recall (2nd motor) failed at 6200 miles. Rear tires briefly lock up causing slight swerving before the system shifted to "N"eutral. Upon restart, starter was unable to crank over seized engine. DTC confirmed P0016 crank shaft position out of alignment.

We purchased our 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 in XXX, it was discovered in the purchase process that the vehicle had an active recall on the engine which was pending a "fix." This was completely downplayed by the dealership as a minor issue that would be addressed. We waited several weeks for the "fix," which was essentially a change in the oil viscosity. On XXX, our [XXX] son, was out of town, driving the vehicle, which suddenly lost all power on the highway leaving him completely stranded. The vehicle would not turn over at all or even shift into neutral. There were no warning signs, no sensors activated, in fact, the Chevy App showed (and still shows) the vehicle as "everything looks good" "no diagnostic issues!" We had the vehicle towed back to our hometown/dealership (Missoula, Chevrolet in Missoula, MT), where it has now been determined, the engine completely seized up/failed, the original "fix" was not adequate, and we are now waiting for a new engine to be put into the vehicle! After reading about other vehicle owners experiences, I am quite skeptical of the new engine as there have been multiple experiences where the new engines had the same issue. This recall is impacting the safety of drivers, most concerning was our [XXX] left stranded in a rural area with very spotty cell service, and the vehicle would not even shift to neutral to get it to a safer area, this needs to be addresses as soon as possible to prevent others from being put into this situation. Truck continues to shutter after having the torque converter replaced and the 2nd injector replaced. Been in the shop several times over the last few years, and still giving warnings on the dash saying, reduce acceleration drive safely. Feel like we just got a terrible vehicle. Almost paid off, and it’s just unreliable. Sadly we need this truck every single day, and the local dealerships have now pushed the problem out so far that we’re passed out 60k warranty period.

I was driving on the freeway at 70 mph and my engine totally froze which made my car die and almost caused a huge accident right in the middle of the freeway. Then I had to push it off to 12 mile road gas station in the middle of oncoming traffic. My engine seized and it has been in the dealership since June 3. It is now July 4 2026th so 31 days and I still haven’t even found out if it’s my engine or not they haven’t really told me anything.

1)The truck experiences an intermittent but complete failure of the Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor circuit and multiple chaffing points of the vehicle wiring harness. This issue is a documented manufacturing and electrical defect covered under General Motors Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) #24-NA-012. Yes, the truck is available for inspection. 2)This issue has happened to me on five occasions where I was traveling over 50 MPH and the vehicle violently jerked with my wife and children in the truck with me. This defect poses an immediate, severe safety hazard due to unpredictable, sudden engine/transmission jerk while operating at highway speeds. My main priority is my family! This failure compromises my ability to safely maneuver, accelerate, or steer the heavy-duty vehicle out of active lanes of traffic, dramatically increasing the risk of a high-speed rear-end collision or crash. 3) The problem has been reproduced by Rick Hendrick Chevrolet Norfolk and R.K. Chevrolet Virginia Beach. There are service invoices confirming these reproducible jerks and subsequent engine codes thrown. 4) No, I brought this up to General Motors as a safety issue but they have brushed off my concerns. 5) The second time I had the violent jerk I had a message appear on my DTC that stated "174 mi Until 65 MPH Max Speed and Service Emission System See Owner's Manual" that was on 2/21/2026. Extra Note: The vehicle sat disabled at a dealership service center for 21 cumulative days during the initial attempt to repair this specific defect under TSB #24-NA-012. Merely 58 days after the repair, the identical crankshaft position sensor circuit/wiring failure reoccurred while driving, resulting in secondary engine failure and requiring a visit to an independent service facility for diagnostic verification and wiring replacement. Internal vehicle history confirms that prior to my truck ownership the crankshaft position sensor was replaced in December 2025 weeks before I purchased the truck.

My company purchased a new 2022 Chevrolet Silverado RST from Bomnin Chevrolet Manassas in December 2022. The vehicle has been properly maintained according to GM’s recommended maintenance schedule, including routine oil changes and tire rotations. On February 10, 2025, the truck began shaking and repeatedly shutting off. Bomnin Chevrolet diagnosed a failed fuel injector and completed the repair. No loaner vehicle was available, requiring me to use Uber transportation until the vehicle was returned on February 12, 2025. On May 19, 2025, the truck again shut off multiple times while traveling approximately 45 mph. The vehicle was returned to Bomnin Chevrolet, where it remained for three days. No loaner vehicle was available, forcing me to rent a vehicle from Enterprise. The dealership ultimately stated it could not diagnose the problem and advised that the failure would have to occur again before it could be repaired. The vehicle was returned on May 22, 2025. On June 18, 2026, the engine shut off while driving and would not restart. The vehicle was towed to Bomnin Chevrolet. After several days, the dealership advised that the engine had suffered catastrophic failure due to a lifter issue and required complete replacement. GM approved the warranty repair; however, the replacement engine is on national backorder. No loaner truck was available. The dealership offered only a $44-per-day rental reimbursement, which is not comparable to the business use of a full-size pickup truck. As of June 29, 2026, the vehicle remains at the dealership, leaving my business without a suitable replacement vehicle and significantly impacting daily operations. I am requesting a voluntary manufacturer repurchase of the vehicle, reimbursement of all rental cars, and a fare financial compensation package for any inconvenience.

2022 Silverado with 6.2 l87 engine was taken into a Chevy dealership to have recall check on engine. Pico scope was used to inspect engine and no issues found. Oil was upgraded and oil cap replaced. A week later traveling many hours from home the engine suffered catastrophic failure and has now been at a dealership for the last seven weeks waiting for a replacement. There is no eta for a replacement.
Engine, Jun 16, 2026
recall remedy was performed just a few months prior didn't even make it through the life of the oil and the 6.2l l87 is seized up per Chevrolet dealership in Chelsea Michigan

Low engine oil level appeared on my 2022 Silverado LTZ with the 6.2L engine for the first time of ownership. The truck is on the first 0W40 oil change performed for the engine recall with 42% engine oil life left. I get the oil changed around 30% left. Up until this point while running the 0W20 this hasn't happened. I'm now concerned that because of the oil viscosity difference that this may become an on going issue.
Power train, Engine, Jun 10, 2026
Took my 22 silverado with the L87 engine in for the recall. The dealer stated that my vehicle had a tick in the motor but it passed the pico test. They switched it to the 0W40 oil and stated that my engine will probably blow here soon, but until that happens there hands are tied. Today i took my truck in for another inspection because my motor had a very loud Tick noise almost sounding like metal on metal, they stated they did not hear anything and without more proof nothing can be done. My safety is very much put at risk when i report something to them thats happening with the vehicle, and if my motor blows while im driving 80 MPH i could crash into others or even die myself. My transmission is also having problems of what i would call Bucking when you put it into drive, i also filled up with gas last week shut my truck off pumped gas, got back into my truck and started it, went to put it into drive had no power shut it off and did it again, i had power but my rear wheels were locked up and wouldnt budge. shut it off turned my truck on and engaged the 4 wheel drive, and then disengaged it, still not able to drive. shut it off and put it back into drive and the rear wheels were able to drive normally. Dealership says theres a recall on the transmission to add a spacer plate so it was ordered. This issue needs to be taken very seriously this is why they say theres only 3% motors affected is because they decline the motors that have actual problems but its still running so to them its fine.

2022 Silverado 1500 LTZ w/6.2L 38082 total miles. First engine replacement due to seizure at approx. 17,782 miles around June/2025, The vehicle lost all propulsion and stopped running while sitting at a stop sign at a four way intersection during a really bad thunderstorm, Luckily the intersection was on a declining hill and i was able to coast it into nearby parking lot .I'm a senior citizen with a replaced hip and couldn't have gotten it out the roadway otherwise. Contacted Gm through the App. to arrange service and tow. The tow couldn't be completed by the assigned wrecker service because it was busy with other tows because of the severe storms. The following afternoon, it was towed to the local dealership for service. It took approx. a week before i was finally informed that the engine seized with explanation.. Repair took just over 3 months to complete under warranty/recall at dealership, didn't get vehicle back until the beginning of September 2025. Engine replacement Inspection passed by GMC on the recall inspection at local dealership. Oil changed from factory 0W-20 to 0W-40 around January or February 2026 if I'm not mistaken. Driving down the highway on 06/03/2026 and all the sudden loss of propulsion. Zero warning! Lucky I was able to coast onto an exit ramp without getting in an accident with hwy. traffic! Luckily i was able to find a church parking lot and asked a person that i knew to give me a ride home. Because it was after business hours, i waited till the local dealership opened the next morning and spoke with service personnel and they arranged a tow to take it to the dealership. As of the end of the business day 06/05/26 I have no word from dealership on the status of vehicle, but the vehicle experienced the same symptoms, a sudden total loss of power and no start, just a single click and no electrics. I feel that the inspection testing and oil change does not address and/or fix the root cause of these engine failures

New motor put in due to drive train seizing up sept 2025. “Oil pressure low” and died while stopping at a red light in May 2026. Would not crank back. New motor only had 40k miles. Supposedly GM will not cover tow or rental.

The coolant control valve or ccv failed. Initially it caused coolant to leak and the trucks fans would run on high even when the truck was turned off. The truck would sporadically raise temp and de rate the engine. Now the check engine light comes on with the engine being de rated. This is similar to the other 21 and 22 year model that Chevrolet has warrantied.

I was accelerating to onto the freeway to merge and my engine suddenly made a loud noise and my vehicle immediately lost power and the dashboard alert lights began going off to service engine. I was able to get to the edge of the highway and make it to the next exit to slowly make my way back to my office to have my vehicle towed to a garage. Luckily I had not fully merged into traffic when my vehicle suddenly slowed. There was heavy semi-truck traffic which they would not have been able to avoid rear ending me. The garage confirmed that a cylinder blew causing the drastic drop in power and speed. It has since been towed to the dealership to have their service team diagnose the issue after my usual independent mechanic had found the problem.

When turning vehicle off start buttons stays lit for a long period of time and prevents you from locking the doors and causes the horn to beep twice if you exit thee vehicle prior to igniting start light going off. Also headlights will stay on also until start button light turns off. On several occasions the rear tail gate opened automatically. I'm now hearing rod ir lifter noises upon starting vehicle
