Recalls and investigations

  1. Fuel system, diesel, storage, tank assemblySep 18, 2025

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021 Cadillac Escalade, 2021, 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, and 2022 and 2024 GMC Yukon vehicles equipped with a 6-cylinder diesel engine. The original fuel tank may have been replaced with an incorrect fuel tank, which can allow fuel to leak in a rollover crash.

A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

Dealers will inspect for the correct fuel tank and replace it, if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 5, 2025. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N252512770. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on September 18, 2025.

  2. Engine and engine cooling, engine, hard parts internal/mechanicalApr 24, 2025

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with a 6.2L V8 gas engine. The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure.

Engine failure increases the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect the engine, and as necessary, repair or replace the engine. For vehicles that pass inspection, dealers will add higher viscosity oil, install 6 oil fill cap, replace the oil filter, and update the owner's manual. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 18, 2025. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N252494000.

  3. Service brakes, hydraulic, brake fluid low warning, lampSep 12, 2024

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, and Escalade ESV vehicles. The electronic brake control module software may fail to display a warning light when a loss of brake fluid occurs. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Without a warning light, the vehicle may be driven with low brake fluid, which can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.

The Electronic Brake Control Module (eBCM) software will be updated through an over-the-air (OTA) update or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 25, 2024. Owners can contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is N242447990.

  4. Power train, Other or unspecified, Engine, Mar 27, 2025

My family and I were returning from vacation from Florida to our home state, North Carolina, when our new Tahoe with 5700 miles started to act strangely. We hit bad traffic leaving Florida so there was plenty of stop and go type maneuvers. At one point, the vehicle turned itself off and put itself in neutral while we were thankfully going a slower speed due to traffic. I was able to get off the shoulder near the [XXX] and restart the car. It ran fine after restart until it started making a clanging type noise from the engine bay. We stopped again and checked temperatures and fluids and the clanging stopped. About 30 minutes later the clanging and a guttural noise began to occur from the engine bay and the transmission would not shift, keeping the vehicle at/around 4,000 RPM at 60mph. We were able to get the vehicle to a nearby rest stop. My wife, 3 children, and I were put in harm’s way due to GM’s faulty product and poor quality control. To have your vehicle shut itself off and/or not shift, especially on the interstate, is incredibly dangerous to the occupants of the vehicle as well as the motoring public. It is important to note that the vehicle never displayed any warning lights of any kind before, during, or after the incidents described. Almost two weeks later, Chevrolet (Cooper Chevrolet S.C.) has not even diagnosed the vehicle. They have told be that they will more than likely have to tear the motor apart to figure out the issue(s), confirming that the problem has been replicated by their technicians. The Tahoe is equipped with a 6.2l V8, a motor with well documented issues. The Tahoe is currently located at Cooper Chevrolet in Walterboro North Carolina. 5. Electrical system, Service brakes, Engine, Mar 26, 2025

On one morning w/20 something temperature, Tahoe started and immediately shut down. When restarted, multiple malfunction lights were lit: engine, ABS/brake, steering column, traction control, etc. Reached Onstar for advice to see if Tahoe was drive-able, but only got confirmation of system malfunctions and offered roadside assistance but declined since at home and would call back if needed. About an hour later and several restarts, all malfunction lights finally cleared except engine light, which stayed on for another day or so. Tahoe drove okay during engine light on.

  6. Engine, Feb 25, 2025

I was driving on the interstate, when the vehicle went into neutral and I could not put it in the drive. I coasted over to the side of the road and then could not get the car out of park at that point. It was towed to the dealership, and I have been told that it has engine failure and needs a new engine.

  7. Engine, Jan 29, 2025

[XXX], my Chevy Tahoe engine sized up with a warning light no oil pressure and the engine turned off. I was left stranded on [XXX] with no cell phone service and no OnStar. Good thing I had my SXS. I was able to travel to work at the mine site where I work and was able to get cellphone service. I called my wife and she contacted the dealership and they sent out a tow truck from Richfield, Utah. The dealership said that I will have to pay the tow bill that’s is around $900.00 dollars. And my wife asked about a loaned vehicle and the dealership said that they don’t have any loaners. The dealership called me about three days later and said that the engine had spun three connecting rods. The dealership said it would be two months before they could get a new engine and in the meantime I’m still making payments and I bought the truck for work and I’m left using my wife’s car. When I started doing research I was amazed that Chevrolet has known about this issue with their engines and have not issued a recall. This problem has been going unresolved since 2005 and they just keep selling engines knowing that they will fail. My truck has 17,000 miles on it. The warranty is up at 36,000 miles, so the engine is covered under warranty. But l am left a foot and at their mercy. Very frustrating!
