Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 16, 2026.

Power train, automatic transmission, gear position indication (prndl)Jun 10, 2022
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Power train, automatic transmission, lever and linkage, floor shiftJul 16, 2018
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Ford Escape, and 2013-2016 Ford Fusion vehicles, equipped with six-speed automatic transmissions. The bushing that attaches the transmission shifter cable to the transmission may degrade over time and cause the bushing to detach from the transmission. The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to Park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in Park, with no warning message or audible chime.
If the vehicle is exited without the transmission being in Park and without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing, free of charge. The recall began September 20, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S20. Note: Owners are directed to use the parking brake until the recall remedy repairs can be made.

A component within the door latches may break, preventing the doors from latching and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the door latches with an improved part, free of charge. The recall began on January 27, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S30.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Escape vehicles manufactured October 5, 2011, through April 10, 2014. Due to an assembly misalignment between the exterior door handle and the door outer panel, the affected vehicles have doors that may be difficult to close or may possibly open while driving.
A door that opens unexpectedly may result in an unrestrained occupant falling from the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and correct the mounting of the door handles, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 30, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S03.

Engine and engine coolingDec 3, 2012
This is an update to a recently announced recall. Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from October 5, 2011, through November 26, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines, as well as certain model year 2013 Fusion vehicles manufactured from February 3, 2012, through November 29, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines. Coolant system leaks may cause the engines to overheat and leak flammable engine fluids.
If flammable engine fluids come in contact with the vehicles hot exhaust system, a vehicle fire could occur.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine for coolant system leaks and reprogram the vehicles powertrain control module and instrument cluster with an updated calibration and overheat strategy software. There will be no charge to owners for this service. Owners were recently notified to contact dealers to arrange for alternative transportation as Ford developed a remedy. Owners will be shortly receiving notifications to contact Ford dealers to schedule the free remedy repair. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

THE DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE, AFTER BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO FORD MARGATE THEY DIAGNOSED THAT THE LATCH ON THE BACK DOOR WAS BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS HAD HAPPENED ON OTHER FORD VEHICLES AND WAS ON RECALL FOR SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES TYPES BUT NOT YET FOR THE FORD ESCAPE 2013. I WAS TOLD TO KEEP MY RECEIPT SO IF THIS DOES BECOME A RECALL I WILL BE REIMBURSED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CERTAIN SINCE IT HAD HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OTHER VEHICLES IT WOULD ONLY BE A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL IT BECAME A RECALL ON THE FORD ESCAPE. I AM GRATEFUL THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE CAR WAS IN PARK AND THAT THE LATCH DIDN'T BRAKE WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION BECOMING A SEVERE ENDANGERMENT FOR MYSELF, FAMILY AND OTHERS.

OVER THE PAST 2 1/2 YEARS THAT WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE WILL STALL OUT WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. IT HAS HAPPENED 7 TIMES AND WE FEEL LIKE IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WE HAD IT AT THE DEALER WE PURCHASED FROM 3 TIMES NOW FOR THIS CONCERN AND THEY CANNOT FIX AND DENY THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG. THE DEALER SAID THEY DID NOT CARE IF WE HAD A PROBLEM AS THEY CANNOT FIND WHAT THE CAUSE IS. I AM A STATE CERTIFIED ASE AUTO TECH AND I THINK I KNOW WHAT IS WRONG. BUT AS I SAID THE DEALER DOES NOT CARE. THE SERVICE WRITER EVEN WROTE THE WRONG DESCRIPTION ON THE RO OF WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. HE WROTE IT FOR A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND WE NEVER SAID THAT. WE TOLD HEM THAT IS STALLS AT SLOW SPEEDS FROM A STOP OR HAS HAPPENED ON VERY LOW SPEED TURNS.

I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE FREEWAY AND SUDDENLY MY REAR PASSENGER TIRE BLEW OUT. WHEN THE TIRE WAS CHANGED BY AAA, I NOTICED THE INNER SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE WAS BLOWN OUT. ALL OF THE YEARS THAT I HAVE BEEN DRIVING, I HAVE NEVER SEEN A HOLE BLOWN OUT IN A TIRE LIKE I HAVE WITH THIS ONE. I DECIDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH AND I'VE NOTICED THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL INSTANCES OF THIS HAPPENING. I BELIEVE THERE IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THESE TIRES AND I BELIEVE SOME ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN AGAINST THIS COMPANY; IT IS WORTH AN INSPECTION ANYWAY. I WILL BE CONTACTING THE CONTINENTAL TIRE COMPANY MYSELF TO VOICE MY CONCERN. I'VE DRIVEN MANY VEHICLES AND I HAVE NOT HAD TIRES FAIL SO SOON, ESPECIALLY BEING MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES.

MY HUSBAND SET OUT TO CHANGE AND ROTATE MY TIRES THIS AFTERNOON. AFTER VERIFYING THE ARROWS ON MY CAR FOR PLACEMENT OF THE JACK, AND CHECKING WITH MY CAR MANUAL, HE WENT TO WORK. WHILE HE WAS REMOVING THE BACK PASSENGER TIRE, AFTER JACKING THE CAR, I DISCERNED CAR MOVEMENT. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO WARN MY HUSBAND BEFORE THE DEFECTIVE FORD ESCAPE JACK BENT AND CRACKED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO COME DOWN HARD ON THE GROUND. MY HUSBAND'S HANDS WERE ALMOST PINNED BENEATH THE CAR AND I AM LIVID. THIS WAS EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING TO US BOTH! HE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE FORD ESCAPE 2013 HAS BEEN NO PICNIC, WITH THE SEVERAL RECALLS SINCE 2012, ONE OCCURRING IMMEDIATELY AFTER WE PURCHASED WITH VEHICLE FROM THE DEALERSHIP IN 11/17/12. WE LOST THE CAR FOR ABOUT A MONTH, WHILE THEY KEPT IT AT THE DEALERSHIP, UNTIL THE PARTS HAD ARRIVED THAT WERE NEEDED FOR THE REPAIR. THIS IS THE FINAL STRAW. WE ARE GOING TO TRADE IN THIS POTENTIALLY DISASTROUS VEHICLE, BEFORE SOMEONE IN OUR FAMILY DOES GET INJURED. IT HAS BEEN (SEEMINGLY) ONE RECALL AFTER ANOTHER, TOO. THE FORD ESCAPE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN INTELLIGENT KEY SYSTEM. THIS KEY ALLOWS THE DRIVER TO UNLOCK THE CAR BY SIMPLY TOUCHING THE DOOR HANDLE. THE SYSTEM ALSO INCLUDES A FEATURE THAT PREVENTS THE DOORS FROM LOCKING OR UNLOCKS THE DOORS IMMEDIATELY IF KEYS ARE LEFT INSIDE THE CAR WITHOUT A DRIVER OR PASSENGER PRESENT. THIS OSTENSIBLY MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR A DRIVER TO LOCK THEIR KEYS INSIDE THE CAR. THE CAR ALSO INCLUDES A AUTO-LOCKING FEATURE THAT IS SUPPOSED TO LOCK ALL DOORS ONLY WHEN THE CAR IS IN DRIVE AND BEGINS MOVING ABOVE 5 MPH. ON THREE OCCASIONS, INCLUDING TODAY (6/11/2015) THIS SYSTEM HAS MALFUNCTIONED TO SUCH A DEGREE THAT ITS BEHAVIOR WAS THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF ITS INTENDED DESIGN AND IT BECAME A SAFETY HAZARD. EACH OCCASION HAS INVOLVED MY WIFE, WHO NATURALLY CARRIES THE KEYS IN HER PURSE OR BRIEFCASE. SHE HAS GOTTEN OUT OF THE CAR AND CLOSED THE DOOR WITHOUT LOCKING THE CAR MANUALLY. HER KEYS REMAINED IN HER BAG ON THE PASSENGER FLOORBOARD OR SEAT, WHILE SHE WALKED AROUND THE CAR TO RETRIEVE THEM OR TO GO TO RETRIEVE OUR SON OUT OF HIS CAR SEAT IN THE BACK. ON THESE OCCASIONS THE CAR HAS LOCKED ITSELF WITH THE KEYS INSIDE AS SOON AS SHE CLOSED HER DOOR AND SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO GET INTO THE CAR. THERE ARE TWO MAJOR FAILINGS OCCURRING. THE CARS SYSTEM IS SUPPOSED TO PREVENT THE LOCKING OF THE DOORS OR IMMEDIATELY UNLOCK THEM IF THE CAR IS PARKED AND IT FAILS TO DETECT A DRIVER IN THE SEAT. THE CAR HAS NO FUNCTIONALITY THAT AUTO LOCKS THE CAR WHEN IT IS OFF AND STATIONARY, YET IT IS DOING THIS. IF YOU GET OUT OF THE CAR WITHOUT THE KEYS AND CLOSE THE DOOR, IT WILL LOCK ITSELF. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT HAS RESULTED IN MY SON GETTING LOCKED IN THE CAR IN THE HEAT. I WAS NEARBY, AND ABLE TO COME UNLOCK THE CAR, OTHERWISE WE WOULD HAVE HAD TO SMASH A WINDOW. STARTING IN APRIL OF 2014 WHEN THE CAR WAS ONLY 9 MONTHS OLD THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON "GET TO SAFETY" OVERHEATING ENGINE. IT WENT TO PLEASANTVILLE FORD WHERE THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE. 1 MONTH LATER ALL THE TRANSMISSION FLUID FELL OUT OF THE CARE. BACK TO PLEASANTVILLE FORD WHERE THEY REPLACED A PART. OVER THE NEXT 8 MONTHS THE WARNING OVER HEATING "GET TO SAFETY" WOULD HAPPEN ANOTHER 7 TIMES. FORD WOULD TOW THE CAR TO PLEASANTVILLE FORD THEY WOULD FIX (A SENSOR, FILL FLUID, AND GIVE ME THE RUN AROUND) THE FINAL TIME I FILLED A COMPLAINT WITH BBB. THEY GOT A FORD MECHANIC FROM DEER BORN, MI TO LOOK AT THE CAR. HE REPLACED THE RADIATOR AND RIGHT AXIAL. ONLY FOR TWO WEEKS LATER THE SAME "GET TO SAFETY" AND THE CAR DIES AGAIN.

SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE ESCAPE TO PRESENT I HAVE NEVER GOTTEN ANYWHERE NEAR THE GAS MILEAGE THAT WAS LISTED ON THE WINDOW TAG. I DO NOT EVEN GET ON THE ROAD WHAT IT SAID I SHOULD GET IN TOWN. IT STINKS.... I HAVE TALKED TO THE DEALERSHIP PERSONS ABOUT IT EVERY TIME I AM IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE OR RECALLS. THEY JUST TELL ME THAT IT ISN'T BROKEN IN. HOW MANY MILES DO I HAVE TO HAVE TO BE BROKEN IN??? I AM AN OLDER LADY SO I DO NOT DRAG, DIG OFF, OR ANY FOOLISH DRIVING....THE GAS MILEAGE JUST STINKS. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT. MAYBE FORD NEEDS TO HAVE TO FOLLOW KIA'S EXAMPLE AND HAVE TO GIVE GAS CARDS TO MAKE UP FOR THE POOR GAS MILEAGE. I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS SEVERAL TIMES ON LINE, BUT NOTHING HAPPENS. UNLESS THIS CHANGES, I WILL NOT BE INTERESTED IN BUYING A FORD AGAIN. I WILL GO BACK TO FOREIGN MAKE....ALWAYS GOT GOOD GAS MILEAGE THERE. WANTED TO BUY LOCAL AND BUY AMERICAN MADE, BUT BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I GOT INTO MY VEHICLE ON APRIL 30, 2015, STARTED THE VEHICLE AND A WARNING MESSAGE CAME ON THE CONTROL PANEL-I DON'T RECALL THE EXACT VERBIAGE BUT IT WAS SOMETHING LIKE "IMMEDIATE MAINTENANCE REQUIRED-POWER ASSIST STEERING FAULT FAILURE". I TRIED TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL, BUT IT WOULD NOT MOVE. I SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE, WENT BACK INTO THE BUILDING I HAD JUST LEFT. WHEN I CAME BACK OUT ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER AND STARTED THE CAR THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT AND I COULD STEER THE VEHICLE. I LOOKED ONLINE THAT NIGHT AND SAW THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF FORD CUSTOMERS WITH 2008-2013 VEHICLES THAT HAVE/ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. FORD STATED THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT HAVE NOT YET ISSUED A RECALL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING. I WAS TOLD THE STEERING BOX HAD FAILED. THE COST IS $1800. I CALLED FORD DIRECTLY AND LET THEM KNOW I FEEL I SHOULD HAVE NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR, EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I LET THEM KNOW I WOULD BE HAPPY TO PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, BUT THIS ISSUE IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND FORD IS AWARE OF A PROBLEM. FORD OFFERED TO PAY $600 OF THE $1800. THEY KEEP TELLING ME TO KEEP MY RECEIPT AND THEY WILL REIMBURSE ME THE REST, IF A RECALL IS ISSUED. I DRIVE 100 MILES PER DAY TO AND FROM WORK. IF MY STEERING HAD FROZEN 2 HOURS EARLIER ON THAT DAY, I QUITE POSSIBLY COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. HOW DO YOU CONTROL AN SUV GOING 70 MPH WITHOUT ANY STEERING? THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS DEFAULT THAT I FEEL FORD IS NOT TAKING SERIOUSLY AND CHARGING THEIR CUSTOMERS TO FIX.
