Recalls and investigations

  1. Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Contacted Ford again fourth time about saftey recall=20S30/20V331. I've been trying to get this fixed since i got the vehicle and recall letters from Ford. Multiple failed attempts because dealership's in my area stood me up, told me they dont do recalls, and said it was basically my fault for buying Ford. Ford customer service is no help, all they say is get in touch with my local dealership's to get it resolved. Duh!! Thats what I've been trying to do, then they give me contact details for dealerships that already stood me up and who said they cant fix the recall. So why bother. Unbelievable, i might as well just contact the dealership i purchased from and surrender the vehicle. Never will i buy Ford again!! Their customer service is lousy!

  2. Steering, Nov 4, 2023

Power assist steering wheel failure. My power steering stop working suddenly and I was not able to move my car. There is a recall for power steering problems from 2008/2013 for the same issues as my SUV. My SUV only has 33,000 miles on it. I think Ford didn't stop using faulty parts in their 2014 models. I spend over $3200 for repairs. I would like to see if I have any recourse as I believe my Ford Should had been included in the recall.

  3. Power train, Vehicle speed control, Nov 1, 2023

Ive been trying to get my local Ford dealer to fix this saftey recall but have just been ignored. First time i called my local dealer (Boggus Ford) in harlingen, TX, they just changed there name to Sames Harlingen Ford. They made a mobile appointment for me in April 21st at 9am, no one showed up i didn't even get a call. I called them to see why no one showed up. They told me my appointment was at the dealership and i didn't show up. I was angry and mad because they just lied to me, i have the texts from the dealership service team and a automated reminder that my appointment was mobile at 9am. I said get me another appt, the next appt was on the 26th of April at 9am it was mobile. Then the night of the 25th i get a notification that my appointment tomorrow is at the dealership at 8.30 am. I was dumbfounded, thats not what was discussed, it was mobile,(i have the texts) i couldn't go in to the dealership because my husband was working on the tires. So another missed appt by the dealership's error not mine. I called again no one answers me. I decided to contact Ford customer service directly, they said they will get in touch with another local Ford dealer to fix my saftey recall but, didnt get a reply back. I contacted Ford again same thing, no reply. In the mean time my doirs fling open when on the highway. First time was a scare, sone of my things in the car flew out. Good thing no one got hurt. And lots of times i see my door open out of nowhere. But now i have to physically tie the doors inside so they wont fling open. Either that or not drive it, which means i cant work. Ive contacted another Ford dealer near me and they said they dont do saftey recalls, so i guess im left with defective doors. I just want this recall fixed!

  12. Electrical system, Oct 17, 2023

My instrument cluster/panel went out on my car. I know I have a 2014 but my car only has 89,000 miles on it. I cannot imagine that something as important as an instrument cluster/panel was made to last under 100,000 miles let alone ever. So I looked for a recall and was excited to know that I would not have to pay for such an expensive repair. It was short lived however when I realized that my vehicle having a manufacture date of 02/12/2014 was not included in the recall which is for May 2014 - July 2015. Seriously this is unbelievable to me. I had to pay $1,130.18 to fix this and I can't believe that others have not had the same problem.

  24. Steering, Other or unspecified, Oct 2, 2023

    1) Steering went out without having issues prior. It reads "steering assist fault service required" on the dash 2) Lost all steering capabilities without warning. The car did not lose all power, it was still running and driving just zero steering. I drive daily with my children in the vehicle most of the time. This time, thankfully, I was alone and not in traffic to harm other drivers. Steering does not work at all, it's not just hard to turn, there's no movement in the wheel no matter how hard you try. 3) It has been checked out by our mechanic and he states "the code reader brings up nothing, no loose wires, tried resetting the battery, it doesn't have power steering fluid that could even be low, but there are cars recalled 2011-2013 with the exact same issue but this is a 2014" 4) It has not been checked by the dealer or manufacturer yet. 5) There were zero warnings. After the incident, a light came on the dash reading "steering assist fault service required"

  25. Other or unspecified, Oct 2, 2023

My car the power steering/steering rack failed while driving the vehicle. At first it gave me a slight warning that the power assist had a fault then it warned steering failure, brake safely. At which time the steering was completely gone. My son and I were in the car driving while this happened and luckily were able to get to the side of the road. I had it towed to the nearest ford dealership to see what the problem was. They called to tell me the entire steering rack had to be replaced for a total of $3,396, when I only owe $4700 on the car as well.
