Recalls and investigations

  1. Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. 2. Power train, automatic transmission, gear position indication (prndl)Jun 10, 2022

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.

Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Ford Escape, and 2013-2016 Ford Fusion vehicles, equipped with six-speed automatic transmissions. The bushing that attaches the transmission shifter cable to the transmission may degrade over time and cause the bushing to detach from the transmission. The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to Park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in Park, with no warning message or audible chime.

If the vehicle is exited without the transmission being in Park and without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of a crash.

If the vehicle is started and driven with an insufficient level of coolant within the engine cooling system, the engine cylinder head may overheat, crack and leak oil.

If the cylinder head cracks and leaks oil, the oil may contact a hot engine or exhaust component, increasing the risk of a fire.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install a coolant level sensor and the supporting hardware and software, free of charge. WINDING NOISE COMING FROM TRANSMISSION DURING DRIVING AND WHILE IN PARK, WHEN THE TRANSMISSION HITS RUNNING TEMP IT STARTS TO LUNGE AND BRAKE RANDOMLY WITHOUT HITTING THE BRAKE, SHIFT POINTS ARE NOT LINING UP WITH THE CORRECT ENGINE RPM WHICH CREATES SUDDEN SHIFTING OR LATE SHIFTING. AFTER ALL OF THIS HAPPENED THEN THE 'TRANSMISSION FAULT SERVICE NOW' MESSAGE POPPED UP ON THE DASH. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ON CITY STREETS UNDER NORMAL STOP AND GO CONDITIONS. 81,639 MILES ON THE ODOMETER CURRENTLY.

DRIVING IN METRO AREA MY CAR BEGAN NOT MOVING OR WHAT I WOULD CALL NOT ENGAGED WITH THE GAS PEDAL. THAN IT BEGAN TO RUN FINE, WHEN I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL AGAIN THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL BUT ROLLED BACK A BIT UNTIL I PRESSED ON THE BREAK PEDDLE. THEN THE NEXT TIME I PUSHED THE GAS IT LUNGED FORWARD, I PULLED OVER AT THE NEXT PARKING LOT AND HAD IT TOWED TO A CAR SHOP. THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION.

  3. Electrical system, Structure, Other or unspecified, Nov 7, 2020

MY REAR PASSENGER AND DRIVER DOOR PANELS HAVE COMPLETED BEEN PULLED OFF AND HARD TO OPEN THE DOOR BECAUSE THE PANELS WERE CAUGHT ON THE RECALL DOOR LATCHES. I'VE HAD THE DOOR LATCHES REPLACED AND IT STILL CONTINUED, THEY SAY THE PANELS WON'T BE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTIES I HAVE BUT I TOLD DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF THE LATCHES THAT WERE RECALLED THAT MY DOOR PANELS ARE DOING THIS IF THE LATCHES WERE GOOD AND NOT RECALLED IN THE FIRST PLACE I WOULD NOT HAVE THE ISSUE. SINCE MY PANELS ARE MESSED UP BECAUSE OF A RECALL SPECIFICALLY MADE ON MY VEHICLE I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY 400-600 TO GET MY DOOR PANELS REPLACED WHEN IT WAS OUT OF MY CONTROL

  4. Power train, Oct 23, 2020

I'VE ONLY HAD THE CAR 2 MONTHS AND THE TRANSMISSION JUST WENT OUT ONE TODAY. FIRST IT BEGAN TO NOT TAKE OFF AS QUICKLY AS IT SHOULD. TWO DAYS LATER IT STOPPED GOING COMPLETELY. THE DATE IT STARTED WAS 10/18/2020 IT WENT OUT 10/22/2020. WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR I DID HAVE ISSUES WITH IT CRANKING RIGHT AFTER I PUT GAS IN IT BUT THE ISSUE WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED.

  5. Engine, Oct 21, 2020

THIS IS IN REGARDS TO RECALL 17V209000 FOR MY 2014 FORD ESCAPE. I HAD THIS FIXED IN 2019, BUT I WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE. FIRST OF ALL, MY CAR HAD BEEN OVERHEATING, AND I HAD TO ADD COOLANT CONSTANTLY, WHICH WAS A SYMPTOM OF THE RECALL ISSUE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO TAKE CARE OF THE RECALL, WHICH THEY SAID THEY DID, BUT THEY TOLD ME THE OVERHEATING WAS NOT CAUSED BY THE RECALL PROBLEM, BUT SOMETHING ELSE, SO IN ADDITION TO FIXING THE RECALL PROBLEM, THEY SAID THEY FIXED ANOTHER PROBLEM ASSOCIATED WITH THE OVERHEATING AND CHARGED ME $250. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS, AND I'M NOT EVEN SURE IF THEY FIXED THE RECALL PROBLEM, HOWEVER, THEY REPORTED THAT THEY DID, BUT THEY NEVER CALLED ME BACK TO HAVE IT INSTALLED. I BELIEVE THE RECALL ISSUE CAUSED A CRACKED CYLINDER BECAUSE LAST MONTH I HAD TO HAVE A NEW ENGINE (AT MY EXPENSE) INSTALLED. THIS CAR IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD AND I HAVE KEPT CURRENT WITH PERIODIC OIL CHANGES AND CHECK-UPS. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS WITH FILING A CLAIM, OR SOME KIND OF REPORT OR RECOURSE FOR THIS?

A DEGRADED SHIFTER CABLE BUSHING THAT DETACHES FROM THE TRANSMISSION MAY ALLOW THE TRANSMISSION TO BE IN A GEAR STATE DIFFERENT THAN THE GEAR SHIFT POSITION SELECTED BY THE DRIVER. IF THE PARKING BRAKE IS NOT APPLIED, A DEGRADED SHIFTER CABLE BUSHING THAT DETACHES FROM THE TRANSMISSION COULD RESULT IN UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY OR CRASH. CAUSE OF FAILURE IS BELIEVED TO BE TRANSMISSION FAILURE (MILEAGE 96,649). CUSTOMER WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE (CITY STREET; APPROXIMATELY 35MPH) AND THEN SUDDENLY THE ENGINE STARTED REVVING (SIMILAR TO THE CAR BEING IN NEUTRAL) AND THE VEHICLE SPEED STARTED TO SLOW DOWN (DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION NOT PROVIDING FORWARD MOMENTUM). THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO A SIDE STREET SO IT COULD BE PARKED AND SAFELY REMOVED FROM VEHICLE TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE IS BEING ASSESSED BY THE DEALER WE PURCHASED IT FROM (GANLEY CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM, 310 BROADWAY AVE, BEDFORD, OH 44146). I HAVE READ THAT OTHER OWNERS OF 2014 FORD ESCAPES HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND CONCERNS WITH THEIR TRANSMISSIONS. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF FORD IS GOING TO ISSUE A RECALL REGARDING THIS TRANSMISSION.

THE ONLY OPTION A DRIVER THEN HAS IS TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, TURN THE ENGINE OFF, AND TURN THE SUV BACK ON. ALL OTHER FUNCTIONS OF THE CARE, THE BRAKES, THE ELECTRICAL, THE POWER STEERING, ARE STILL FUNCTIONING. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS AS THIS FAULT HAS OCCURRED ON HIGHWAYS, RESIDENTIAL ROADS, AND CITY STREETS, AS WELL AS WHEN THE SUV IS MOVING INTO AN INTERSECTION AT STOP SIGNS AND RED LIGHTS.

BACK UP CAMERA STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY ONLY AFTER 3 YEARS OF BUYING MY NEW 2014 FORD ESCAPE. IT ONLY WORKED INTERMITTENLY. I BROUGHT IT TO THE FORD DEALER IN SUNNYVALE FOR REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY BUT IT DECIDED TO WORK WHILE THERE SO THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT IT WHEN IT WAS NOT WORKING. WHEN I FINALLY BROUGHT IT IN WHEN IT STOPPED WORKING THEY SAID IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THESE BACKUP CAMERA'S ARE DEFINITELY A PROBLEM ALL THE WAY BACK TO 2014. WHY ARE THEY ONLY RECALLING NEWER RECENT MODELS WHEN 2014 IS ALSO FAULTY?

COOLANT SYSTEM PROBLEM FOR MANY YEARS. ENGINE OVERHEATING WARNING COMES ON WHEN CAR IS STARTED. CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURE SENSOR CHANGED TWICE. LOSES COOLANT OVER TIME. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN PREVALENT IN FORD ESCAPES FOR YEARS AND SOME VEHICLES WERE RECALLED. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE RECALL DESCRIBED ISSUES BUT WAS NOT LISTED FOR RECALL. NEED SYSTEM FIXED.
