Recalls and investigations

  1. Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. 2. Power train, automatic transmission, gear position indication (prndl)Jun 10, 2022

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.

Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

  2. Power train, Mar 2, 2020

AS I WAS DRIVING, THE CAR STARTED TO MAKE A WHINING NOISE, AND THEN A FEW MINUTES LATER THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP AND THE CAR STARTED TO REV UP AND LOOSE POWER UNTIL THE CAR COULDN'T MOVE ANYMORE AND ONLY ROLLED.

  3. Power train, Feb 27, 2020

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HWY WITH MY 1 YEAR OLD IN THE BACK WHEN I MY CAR STARTED TO SLOW ON ITS OWN. I PRESSED HARDER ON THE GAS TO KEEP UP WITH TRAFFIC AND THE CAR SURGED FORWARD ALMOST REAR ENDING THE ONE IN FRONT OF ME. IT DID THIS ONCE MORE BEFORE I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY. WHEN I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY I HAD TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN AND HALFWAY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION MY CAR COULD BARELY ACCELERATE. THERE WERE NO NOTIFICATIONS OR WARNINGS THAT POPPED UP. AS I TRIED TO MAKE IT UP THE HILL ON THE NEXT ROAD MY CAR STALLED AND THEN A NOTIFICATION POPPED UP SAYING TRANSMISSION FAULT SERVICE NOW. I HAD TO GET IT TOWED AND FORD SAYS IT IS THE TORQUE CONVERTER THAT CAUSED DAMAGE TO MY TRANSMISSION. I ASKED THEM ABOUT A SERVICE BULLETIN RELATED TO THE PART BUT THEY SAID THEY TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PART FAILING. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS RELATED TO THIS PART ON THE INTERNET. MY MAKE AND MODEL CAR IS LISTED AS A CLUNKER ONLINE DUE TO THIS ISSUE. MY DAUGHTER AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF MY CAR SLOWED DOWN ANY MORE GOING THOUGH THE INTERSECTION BECAUSE WE BARELY MADE IT BEFORE TRAFFIC CAME THROUGH. FORD SHOULD MAKE THIS RIGHT BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. ALMOST ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS I READ SAID THE CARS THAT FAILED DUE TO THIS PART WHEN THEY WERE TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. WHEN I TALKED TO THE SERVICE PEOPLE AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN ALPHARETTA THEY SAID THEY KNOW THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS PART BUT UNTIL FORD DOES A RECALL THEY CAN'T HELP ME. PLEASE TAKE ACTION BEFORE A FAMILY IS KILLED DUE TO FORDS NEGLIGENCE.

  6. Steering, Vehicle speed control, Engine, Feb 23, 2020

WHILE DRIVING, MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHOWS A LOW COOLANT THAN ENGINE OVERHEAT MESSAGE. IT IMMEDIATELY BEGINS TO SHUT DOWN, SPEED RAPIDLY DECREASES AND POWER STEERING IS LOST. I MUST STOP THE CAR, PLACE IT IN PARK, SHUT IT OFF, WAIT A FEW MINUTES THAN RESTART IT. SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINS ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING BETWEEN 55 AND 65 MPH ON THE MAJOR FREEWAY WHERE THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT IS UP TO 70 MPH, 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC. SINCE THE LOSS OF POWER IS IMMEDIATE AND I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER IT, I HAVE VERY LITTLE TIME TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF OTHER VEHICLES BEFORE I AM IN CRAWL MODE. THE VEHICLE WAS JUST INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS FIXED. COOLANT IS NOT LOW, ENGINE HAD NOT OVERHEATED AND THERE IS NO WARNING THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE UNTIL 30 SECONDS BEFORE IT STARTS SHUTTING DOWN. HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW AND IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED AFTER THE FIRST TIME. MY VEHICLE HAS NO OPEN RECALLS AND IT HAS BEEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE IN THE PAST 2 WEEKS WITH REGARDS TO THE OVERHEAT ISSUE.

  7. Power train, Feb 21, 2020

MY 2014 FORD ESCAPE BROKE DOWN THE FIRST TIME BEFORE CHRISTMAS 2019 AT 100,048 MILES. THE WARNING LIGHT WAS STATING THE VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATING. FORTUNATELY, I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED AS MY VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP MODE. I ASSUMED THIS WAS RELATED TO THE RECALL FOR THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR THAN I HAD REPLACED PRIOR. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT AND DROVE IT FOR 3 MORE DAYS. I HAD DRIVEN IT ABOUT TEN MILES FROM HOME THE MORNING IT BROKE DOWN AGAIN. THE CAR GAVE NO WARNING SIGNALS OR LIGHTS. I WAS IN A 65MPH ZONE ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE VEHICLE HAD POWER TO THE ENGINE BUT NO ACCELERATION. THE RPM'S WOULD REV TO 4000 BUT NOT ACCELERATE. I QUICKLY WAS DOWN TO LESS THAN 10MPH TRYING TO MAKE IT UP A SMALL INCLINE. I MANAGED TO GET TO THE SHOULDER BEFORE I WAS REAR ENDED. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED AND I WAS TOLD THIS WAS A FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR. I THEN PAID $350.00 TO HAVE THIS REPLACED. I PICKED UP MY VEHICLE ONLY TO DRIVE IT LESS THAN A MILE FROM THE DEALERSHIP FOR IT TO BREAK DOWN ONCE AGAIN. I WAS THEN TOLD MY TRANSMISSION HAD COMPLETELY FAILED AND IT WOULD NEED TO BE TOTALLY REPLACED FOR $5,000. THIS IS A COMPLETE SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THE FACT IT HAPPENS AT HIGH SPEEDS, NO WARNING LIGHTS, AND NOT HAVING ENOUGH ACCELERATION TO BARELY MAKE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, SHE HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT STATED SHE MANAGED TO SAFELY PULL OVER THE VEHICLE AND WHEN SHE LIFTED THE HOOD SHE SAW WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM THE COOLANT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC STATED THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE ANY COOLANT AND THAT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OVER HEAT. HOWEVER A FEW DAYS LATER, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER (SUTTON FORD 21315 CENTRAL AVE, MATTESON, IL 60443) FOR A DIAGNOSIS. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE WAS "LOCKED UP AND THE RECALL WAS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE DEALER INFORMED HER IF A FULL DIAGNOSTIC EXAM WAS PERFORMED SHE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE. THE VEHICLE PREVIOUSLY HAD A REPLACED ENGINE 13 MONTHS PRIOR. THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THE INFORMATION THE DEALER STATED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,000.

THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE THE HOSES, BUT WANT TO CHARGE ME OVER $1,000.00 TO REPLACE. WENT TO MANAGERS STILL NO AVAIL, WENT TO FORD MOTOR COMPLAINT THEY SAID TO BRING MY COMPLAINT TO YOU. BEACH FORD IS NOT HONORING THE ACTUAL RECALL. ALL RECALLS HAVE A 10,000 MILE WARRANTY AND/OR ONE YEAR. NONE HAD BEEN MEANT. PLEASE I NEED HELP WITH THIS, I DON'T WANT SOMETHING FOR NOTHING, BUT I WANT MY CAR FIXED FROM A RECALL THAT FORD SAID COULD CAUSE THE GASKETS TO CRACK OR ENGINE FIRE. CAN YOU HELP ME WITH THIS. THIS HAPPENS WHENEVER THE CAR IS DRIVING.

MY TIRE GOT A RAZOR BLADE IN IT WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS UNABLE TO SWITCH TO MY SPARE AFTER PARKING IN MY PARKING STRUCTURE BECAUSE THE STANDARD LUG WRENCH INCLUDED DID NOT FIT OVER THE LUG NUTS. THE LUG NUTS WERE TOO BIG FOR THE LUG WRENCH PROVIDED BY FORD. I HAD TO DRIVE WITH A FLAT TIRE BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO CHANGE IT TO A SPARE. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE, BUT I AM CONCERNED FOR THE WELFARE OF THE PEOPLE WHO GET A FLAT TIRE ON A HIGHWAY OR AN UNSAFE AREA.

ON FEBRUARY 2, 2020 I WAS DRIVING HOME AND MY CAR SUDDENLY STALLED AND RELEASED AS I HIT THE ACCELERATOR & THEN IT WOULDN'T SPEED UP AT ALL, WHICH IS WHEN I REALIZED MY TRANSMISSION WENT OUT FOR THE SECOND TIME IN 3 YEARS. I AM VERY METICULOUS WITH MY VEHICLES AND THIS NEVER SHOULD'VE HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME OR EVEN A SECOND TIME. I REACHED OUT TO FORD ABOUT IT, BUT THEY TOOK NO RESPONSIBILITY. THE FIRST TIME MY TRANSMISSION WENT OUT WAS AT ABOUT 79K MILES. THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NO WAY TO CONVENIENTLY CHECK THE TRANSMISSION OIL WITHOUT HAVING TO TAKE IT INTO A SHOP.

CAR KEPT STALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND THEN COMPLETELY STALLED OUT AFTER GOING 40MPH. NO INDICATION OF A TRANSMISSION ERROR. CHANGED TRANSMISSION FLUID AND STILL DOESN'T WANT TO DRIVE. SOMETIMES THE ACCELERATION ON THE VEHICLE IS TERRIBLE AND THE AC GIVES OUT AND I NEED TO CONSTANTLY TURN IT OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON TO WORK. HAVING TO TOW IT TO FORD BECAUSE IT'S NOT DRIVABLE AND SPEND ALL THIS MONEY ON A CAR I'M STILL PAYING FOR, GETTING RID OF IT AND NOT BUYING ANOTHER FORD EVER AGAIN.
