Recalls and investigations

  1. Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. 2. Power train, automatic transmission, gear position indication (prndl)Jun 10, 2022

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Ford Escape, and 2013-2016 Ford Fusion vehicles, equipped with six-speed automatic transmissions. The bushing that attaches the transmission shifter cable to the transmission may degrade over time and cause the bushing to detach from the transmission. The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to Park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in Park, with no warning message or audible chime.

If the vehicle is exited without the transmission being in Park and without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing, free of charge. The recall began September 20, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. MY FORD ESCAPE HAS BEEN HAVING OVERHEATING ISSUES FOR MONTHS. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE FIXED IT ONLY TO HAVE MADE IT WORSE AS THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN DUE TO OVERHEATING. THERE IS A RECALL REGARDING THIS EXACT ISSUE AND THEIR REPAIR IS A SENSOR TO WARN OF LOW COOLANT. THAT'S RIDICULOUS!!! THE PROBLEM LIES WITH THE COOLANT LEAKING. WHERE IS THE ACTUAL FIX FOR THAT??? A WARNING LIGHT DOESN'T FIX THE MANUFACTURING ISSUE OF LEAKING COOLANT. A 3 YEAR OLD CAR SHOULDN'T HAVE LEAKING PROBLEMS!!! WHILE IN MOTION, THE OVERHEATING SENSORS TURN ON AND THE CAR SHUTS OFF MAKING FOR A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. FORD PRETENDED THEY HAD NO IDEA ABOUT AN OVERHEATING ISSUE AND CHARGED ME $800 TO FIX IT AND YET, IT ACTUALLY FIXED NOTHING!!! STILL OVERHEATING, AND I'M STILL OUT $800 AND NO RESOLUTION IN SIGHT.

MY 2014 FORD ESCAPE HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR THE ENGINE OVER HEATING. I HAVE HAD TO GET IT TOWED TWICE NOW BECAUSE IT CONTINUES TO OVER HEAT DUE TO A LACK OF COOLANT (IT DISAPPEARS FOR SOME REASON AND NO ONE KNOW WHERE IT GOES). I THEN HAVE TO GET A RENTAL CAR FOR THE WEEK OR HOWEVER LONG IT TAKES THEM TO FIX IT. FORD DOES NOT HAVE A PLAN TO FIX THE ISSUE INSTEAD THEY WILL INSTALL A SENSOR TO HELP MONITOR THE COOLANT LEVEL AND WARN ME BEFORE THE CAR OVERHEATS. THIS JUST TRANSFER THE BURDEN ONTO ME TO CONTINUOUSLY ADD COOLANT TO A NEW CAR THAT SHOULDN'T NEED IT HAD IT BEEN MADE CORRECTLY. AT THIS POINT I DON'T EVEN WANT THE CAR ANYMORE BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE AND A HUGE INCONVENIENCE. THIS HAPPENS WHILE I AM DRIVING AND IT WARNS ME TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER.

SINCE SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IT BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THEY INCLUDED UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION, DECELERATION, ROUGH SHIFTING, TRANSMISSION AND FLUID LEAKS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MULTIPLE TIMES FROM 1 DAY TO OVER 90 DAYS AT A TIME. SEVERAL REPAIRS TOOK 5-7 WEEKS. INITIALLY THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND FORD MOTOR CO. COVERED THE REPAIRS AND PROVIDED A RENTAL CAR ON TWO OCCASIONS. THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN FULLY RESOLVED AS THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE FORD SHOP SINCE APRIL 1, 2017 WHILE IT WAS BEING DIAGNOSED AND I TRIED TO DISCUSS THE ISSUES WITH FORD SINCE THEY REFUSED TO COVER THE REPAIRS. FORD DENIED OUR CLAIM TO REPLACE THE VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 25,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE UNDER THE CALIFORNIA "LEMON LAW" STATUTES. THE ISSUES HAVE NEARLY CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE SHOP AT ONE POINT AS I FELT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION USUALLY TOOK PLACE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS OF 55-70 MPH. THE ROUGH SHIFTING WAS COMMONLY DURING A FIRST START OR WHEN APPROACHING OR PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. IT WOULD SHIFT ROUGH AT SPEEDS 20-35 ON RESIDENTIAL ROADWAYS. THE LEAKS WERE TYPICALLY DISCOVERED AFTER FREEWAY DRIVING. I HAVE NUMEROUS DOCUMENTS AND THE SYSTEM WOULD NOT ACCEPT THEM ALL SO I UPLOADED A FEW AS SAMPLES. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP SINCE APRIL 1, 2017 SO I DO NOT HAVE THE DOCUMENTS SHOWING THE CURRENT ISSUES. FORD HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO WORK WITH AND HAS REFUSED TO COVER ANY REPAIRS. FORD MOTOR COMPANY INFORMED ME THAT THEY "SELF REPORT" CLAIMS LIKE THIS TO NHTSA AND PROVIDE NHTSA WITH MY CONTACT INFORMATION. THEY ALSO TOLD ME MY ONLY OPTIONS WOULD BE TO FILE A LAWSUIT AGAINST FORD OR REPORT THE ISSUE TO NHTSA AS A SAFETY CONCERN. I BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE HAS AN INHERENT DEFECT THAT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.

WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR LESS THAN 10 MINUTES FROM HOME AFTER JUST STARTING UP FOR THE MORNING IN JUNE 27, 2017 UNDER HOOD STARTED TO SMOKE, CAUGHT ON FIRE, AN EXPLOSION SOUND AND CAR BURNED UP . CAR HAD TO BE PUT OUT BY FIRE DEPARTMENT. TOTAL LOSS PER INSURANCE COMPANY . THIS CAR HAS A ENGINE FIRE RECALL AND I WAS TOLD RECALL WORK WAS DONE PRIOR TO SALE OF THE CAR TO ME BY FORD DEALER IN MAY 2017. HOWEVER I NOW FIND OUT THAT THE ACTUAL RECALL PART IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE FROM FORD AND THAT ONLY AN INSPECTION WAS DONE PRIOR TO SALE. NOT AN ACTUAL REPAIR. THE RECALL HAD TO DO WITH ENGINE FIRES ! MAYBE ALL THESE CARS NEED TO BE OF THE ROAD.

  20. Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 6, 2017

MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF GOING G 60MPH IN THE FAST LANE ON THE HIGHWAY ENDANGERING ME AND MY 2 YOUNG KIDS IT WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS, , MONTHS PRIOR I COMPLAINED TO DEALER THAT MY CAR WAS JERKING AND SOMETIMES FELT AS IT WASN'T GETTING FUEL. BUT THEY CONTINUE TO TELL ME NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY CAR BUT SINCE IT SHUT OFF IT'S AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE FUEL PUMP MALFUNCTIONED. *TR

WHEN I HAVE AN OIL CHANGE, THE DEALER (2 OF THEM) NOTIFY ME THAT I HAVE A LEAK IN MY REAR SHOCK ABSORBERS. I HAVE REPLACED THE PASSENGER SIDE TWICE AND NOW THEY TELL ME MY DRIVERS SIDE IS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE JUST WENT OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR SHOCKS. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCE A REAR SHOCK LEAK AS LONG AS I HAVE OWNED A VEHICLE. NOW, BASICALLY, EVERY TIME I HAVE AN OIL CHANGE AND CHECK, THEY INFORM ME OF A LEAKAGE.

WHILE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC ON JULY 3, 2017, MOVING AT 30 MPH, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER AND THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED CAUSING THE CAR TO QUICKLY DECELERATE NEARLY CAUSING A REAR END COLLISION. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT INDICATED AN ENGINE FAULT REQUIRING IMMEDIATE SERVICE. THE ENGINE CONTINUED RUNNING BUT WITH HARDLY ANY ACCELERATION THEN LOSS OF POWER AND BUCKING. I PULLED TO SHOULDER AND WAS ABLE TO LIMP HOME ABOUT A MILE WITH ENGINE RUNNING ERRATICALLY ALL THE WAY. CALLED AAA AND HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO HAMMONASSET FORD IN MADISON CT FOR SERVICE ON JULY 4 2017. AWAITING RESPONSE FROM THEM AT THIS TIME.

  25. Seats, Jun 16, 2017, crash

I AM CONCERNED THAT THE DESIGN OF THE HEADREST IS NOT SAFE. I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT RECENTLY WHERE I WAS SIMPLY REAR ENDED. I HAVE A FAIRLY SERIOUS CONCUSSION THAT I HAVE HAD FOR NEARLY FOUR WEEKS. I BELIEVE THAT I GOT THE CONCUSSION BECAUSE MY HEAD HIT THE VISOR AND THEN THE BOTTOM EDGE, THAT JARTS OUT, ON THE HEAD REST.
