WHILE DRIVING IN THE CAR WITH MY TWO CHILDREN ON ROUTE 193 IN MARYLAND (NOT A HIGHWAY BUT A BUSY ROAD), THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING, AN ERROR APPEARED ON THE SCREEN THAT SAID "TERRAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ERROR", A WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AND THE LIGHT ON THE TMS KNOB WENT OUT (CAR HAD FULL TANK OF GAS). I PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED THE CAR OFF, RESTARTED IT AND THE ERROR INDICATORS WERE GONE. IT THEN DROVE WITH NO PROBLEMS. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE FOLLOWING DAY FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND ASKED THEM TO LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM. AFTER CHARGING US $175 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC, THEY TOLD US THAT THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND NO CODES WERE STORED IN THE COMPUTER SO THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. WE PICKED UP THE CAR AND BROUGHT IT HOME. SUNDAY MORNING, ONCE AGAIN IT ABRUPTLY STOPPED ACCELERATING, AND THE SAME ERROR MESSAGES APPEARED. THE TERRAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ERROR ONLY APPEARED FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS AND WAS THEN REPLACED WITH A WRENCH ERROR ON THE SCREEN. THIS TIME I TOOK PICTURES IN THE HOPES THAT IT MIGHT HELP THE DEALER PINPOINT THE PROBLEM. I THEN CUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED AGAIN. IT DROVE WITH NO PROBLEMS AGAIN BUT WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE CAR AT THE DEALER ON TUESDAY BECAUSE CLEARLY THERE IS A PROBLEM. I SHOWED THE PICTURES AND WAS TOLD, IN ORDER FOR ANYTHING TO BE FIXED, THEY HAVE TO BE ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND BECAUSE WHEN I RESTART THE CAR THE ERROR CODES ARE DELETED FROM THE HISTORY, THERE'S NOTHING FOR THE DEALER TO DO. I RECEIVED A CALL TODAY (2/14/18) AND AGAIN WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM COULDN'T BE REPLICATED SO NO FIX IS AUTHORIZED. I UNDERSTAND WANTING TO DIAGNOSE THE CORRECT PROBLEM, HOWEVER THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. BOTH TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED I HAVE BEEN WITH MY KIDS AND THANKFULLY IN PLACES WHERE I COULD SAFELY PULL OVER BUT WHAT IF IT HAPPENS WHILE I AM ON A HIGHWAY OR IN AN INTERSECTION?

2015 EXPLORER SPORT - HAVE A BINDING, POPPING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. POPS BEFORE COMPLETING A FULL TURN AT FULL STOP AND WILL POP MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN DOING A K-TURN OR RIGHT TURN AT SLOW SPEED. HAD THRUST WASHER, NUTS, AND OTHER ITEMS REPLACED NOV 2017 AT 34776 MILES, NOW AT 38000 AND ITS BACK AND OF COURSE TECHS CAN'T DUPLICATE. I ALSO WENT TO DEALER AND DROVE AFTER THEY ROTATED TIRES AND CHANGED THE OIL AND COULDN'T. NEXT MORNING IN DRIVING ITS DOING IT AGAIN, BUT ONE POP AT A TIME AT FULL STOP. THIS MUST BE A DEFECT BECUASE I HAD THE SAME TYPE OF PROBLEM IN MY 2013 EXPLORER. MY WARRENTY IS UP AND I NEED THIS FIXED AS I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE WITH CONFIDENCE.

I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD COMPANY (THIS WAS ONLY AFTER I HAD MADE A CALL TO FORD) CONCERNING CARBON MONOXIDE. I HAVE EXPERIENCED PHYSICAL AFFECTS FROM POSSIBLE CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. I GOT THE LETTER TO BRING VEHICLE IN TO GET FIXED WITH NO CHARGE TO ME. IT IS NOW FEB. AND THE ISSUE HAS YET TO BE FIXED. THEREFORE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH MY DAUGHTER (WHO HAS A CHRONIC ILLNESS) WITHOUT USING HEAT OR A/C, DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. FORD STILL REFUSING TO DO A RECALL, WHILE WE AS CUSTOMERS ARE SUFFERING EVERYDAY BECAUSE OF THE 'ALMIGHTY DOLLAR', IT IS NOT RIGHT!!!! PLEASE FORCE FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO MAKE THIS RIGHT AND TO START THINKING OF THEIR CUSTOMERS SAFETY AND WELL BEING.

WE OWN A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. WE HAVE MADE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE. THIS IS NOT SOLVING ANYTHING. IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON WITH YOUR FORD EXPLORER, GO TO FORDEXPLORERNIGHTMARE.COM. READ THE 2 KEY DOCUMENTS AND LEAVE YOUR STORY. IT IS TIME THAT FORD HAS TO BUY ALL OF THESE VEHICLES BACK. OBVIOUSLY THEY CANNOT BE FIXED. FORD HAS BEEN KNOWING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SINCE 2011. NOW THE FORD ENGINEERS ARE GOING OUT TO INSPECT THESE VEHICLES. THIS IS DISGUSTING WHAT FORD IS DOING TO PEOPLE THAT ARE STUCK PAYING FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS LIKE DRIVING A ROLLING GAS CHAMBER!

WHEN MY CAR IS IN ANY KIND OF TURN YOU HEAR A POPPING NOISE . NOT VERY LOUD BUT NOTICEABLE. ALSO WHEN ON A INCLINE OR DECLINE A CRUNCHING NOISE CAN BE HEARD. MY SON BORROWED MY CAR LAST WEEKEND AND NOTICED IT. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY OF COURSE CANNOT REPLICATE THIS NOISE. WITH ALL OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE I AM APPALLED THAT FORD HAS NOT LOOKED INTO THIS. I GUESS NOT ENOUGH DEATHS OR SERIOUS INJURIES HAVE OCCURRED YET FOR IT TO BE ON THEIR RADAR.

STRONG SMELL OF EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE OF VEHICLE UPON ACCELERATION. ELEVATED LEVELS OF CARBON MONOXIDE (TESTED WITH METER) DURING OPERATION OF VEHICLE. I MUST OPEN WINDOWS INSIDE OF VEHICLE FREQUENTLY TO VENT THE EXHAUST FUMES, AND TO TRY TO DECREASE CO LEVELS IN THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. THIS CONDITION HAS EXISTED SINCE THE FIRST DAY OF OWNERSHIP, AUGUST 8, 2016. I STILL OWN THIS VEHICLE AS OF TODAY, JANUARY 30, 2018.

I AM A NEW FORD OWNER. I BOUGHT MY USED FORD EXPLORER (VIN# [XXX]) ON 12/26/17. RIGHT NOW I AM WORRIED ABOUT MY FORD EXPLORER. MY ENTIRE FAMILY ( MY 2 KIDS, MY WIFE AND MYSELF ) HAS BEEN GETTING NAUSEOUS AND DIZZINESS LAST COUPLE WEEKS. I INSTALLED A MONOXIDE OF CARBON DETECTOR IN THE CAR AND IT DOESN'T STOP GOING OFF, IT BUZZES EVERY 60 SECONDS. OBVIOUSLY, THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I HAD TRIED MANY TIMES TO SCHEDULE A SERVICE FOR MY CAR ONLINE AND OVER THE PHONE BUT FORD DEALERS ARE NOT COOPERATING. THANKS [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

ODOR IN CABIN HAPPENS UNDER VARIOUS SPEEDS AND DRIVING CONDITIONS MY WIFE HAS AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO THIS ODOR. HER THROAT STARTS TO CLOSE UP AND IT RESTRICTS HER AIRWAY. SHE HAS TO ROLL DOWN WINDOWS AT THE FIRST SIGN OF ODOR TO LIMIT THESE AFFECTS. THIS ALL STARTED IN JULY 2017 AND FIRST REPORTED TO THE DEALER ON JULY 6,2017. FORD HAS MADE NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MOST RECENT TRIP FOR REPAIRS RESULTED IN THE DEALERSHIP BEING ADVISED BY FORD'S OFFICE OF GENERAL COUNSEL TO RELEASE VEHICLE TO CUSTOMER WITH NO REPAIRS. WITHOUT BEING REDUNDANT I HAVE ATTACHED A LETTER TO OGC SUBSEQUENT TO THEIR RELEASING THE UNREPAIRED VEHICLE TO US. TO DATE WE HAVE HAD NO RESPONSE AND/OR ANY DIRECT COMMUNICATION WITH FORD'S OGC.

SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2014, WE ARE GETTING EXHAUST IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE, SPECIFICALLY, ON LONGER TRIPS WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION. THE FASTER AND FURTHER WE DRIVE, THE WORSE IT IS. WE TRAVEL FROM SC TO PA (10-12 HOURS) AT LEAST TWICE PER YEAR, AND HAVE NOTICED A STRONG ODOR IN THE CAR THAT SMELLS LIKE THE EXHAUST PIPE IS FEEDING THE EXHAUST BACK INTO THE CAR. DURING OUR DAY-TO-DAY COMMUTES TO WORK/SCHOOL/HOME, WE DO NOT NOTICE IT. WE HAVE THREE KIDS..THIS CAN'T HAPPEN! I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE ATTENTION OF OUR FORD DEALERSHIP WHEN WE TAKE IT FOR OIL CHANGES AND ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, AND AT ONE TIME THIS SUMMER (SUMMER 2017) THE TECH CHECKED THE VIN AND SAID, NOPE, YOURS ISN'T PART OF THE RECALL. WE'LL LOOK INTO IT, BUT THERE'S NOTHING WE CAN DO.

EXHAUST FUMES IN CABIN UPON ACCELERATION

WITH 51,000 MILES AND JUST OVER 3 YEARS ON THE CAR, THE STEERING GEAR BOX FAILED WITH POPPING NOISE OCCURRING ANYTIME THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED. GOT WORSE QUICKLY AND HAD TO GET IT FIXED. VERY EXPENSIVE BUT ALSO VERY SCARY FOR MY SAFETY. I ALWAYS TAKE CARE OF MY CARS AND KEEP THEM FOR 7-10 YEARS.

I KEEP SMELLING EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE THE VEHICLE WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING.

I JUST READ A USA TODAY ARTICLE CONCERNING THE FORD EXPLORER AND CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. AS I READ IT, I IMMEDIATELY KNEW THIS IS WHAT SICKENED MY FAMILY DURING OUR VACATION LAST SUMMER. THIS HAPPENED OVER OUR EXTENDED TRAVEL FROM FORT RILEY, KS TO LAS VEGAS, NV. MY OLDER SON COMPLAINED OF HEADACHES AND VOMITED SEVERAL TIMES. WE COULD NOT DETERMINE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH HIM AT THE TIME.
Other or unspecified, Jan 25, 2018
ABOUT A YEAR AFTER PURCHASING VEHICLE NOTICED A STRANGE ODOR IN THE CABIN, SEEMED WORSE ON ACCELERATION AND WHEN WINDOWS CLOSED. THOUGHT HAD AN EXHAUST LEAK. I WORK IN A SERVICE SHOP SO I INSPECTED FOR EXHAUST LEAKS BEFORE TAKING TO DEALER AND DID NOT NOTICE ANY. DID NOTICE A SEAL LEAKING ON THE EXHAUST AND HAD THE DEALER REPAIR THAT UNDER WARRANTY. WHEN DROPPED OFF THE VEHICLE FOR THE WARRANTY REPAIR I DID MENTION TO THEM THE SMELL. I WAS TOLD THE TECHNICIAN DID NOT NOTICE ANY SMELL AFTER THE SEAL WAS REPLACED. INTERMITTANTLY WE ARE STILL GET THE "EXHAUST" SMELL IN THE CABIN. OCCASIONALLY I WILL ALSO GET NAUSEATED AFTER AWHILE ESPECIALLY IF SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT.

CARBON MONOXIDE IN CAB. EXPERIENCED HEADACHES AND EXTREME FATIGUE. HAD CO DETECTOR IN CAR AND SPIKED TO 18 PPM AND REMAINED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE IS A SQUAD CAR. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND THEY FOUND BAD FACTORY WELDS ON EXHAUST MANIFOLD ALONG FIREWALL.

EXHAUST ODORS IN VEHICLE ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING WITH HEAT OR A.C. ON CAUSING BREATHING DISCOMFORT AND EYE IRRITATION.
Other or unspecified, Fuel/propulsion system, Jan 24, 2018
SINCE WE HAVE HAD OUR CAR 2016 YOU CAN ALWAYS SMELL A GAS LIKE ODOR TYPE FUMES. IF THE CAR IS DRIVEN FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME YOU GET A HEADACHE AND DIZZY. THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY HAVE NO ISSUES WITH CARBON MONOXIDE IN THE FUMES. WE WOULD LIKE THIS LOOKED INTO FURTHER AS IT IS A CONCERN. AT FIRST, WE THOUGHT MAYBE YOU CAN JUST SMELL IT WHEN THE CAR IS FIRST WARMING UP, MAYBE ITS THE HEATED SEATS TRYING TO RULE EVERYTHING OUT. UNFORTUNATELY, I THINK WE ARE NOW USE TO THE SMELL WHICH IS ALSO SO BAD BY IGNORING A ISSUE.

MOONROOF LEAK FOLLOWED BY MONROOF BEING STUCK OPEN. AFTER A CAR WASH AT OUR PURCHASING DEALER, WE NOTICED WATER DRIPPING FROM THE LIGHTS ABOVE THE CENTER CONSOLE IN PROXIMITY TO THE MONROOF SWITCHES. UPON TESTING THE SWITCHES, THE MOONROOF OPENED BUT WOULD NOT CLOSE AGAIN. THE POWERSHADE OPERATES FINE, BUT THE MOONROOF IS STUCK OPEN (IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER IN MICHIGAN). THE LIGHTS OPERATE FINE. LUCKILY FOR US, WE ARE UNDER THE INITIAL FACTORY WARRANTY. THIS IS A 2015 EXPLORER WITH 29900 MILES. WE BOUGHT IT USED ON SATURDAY AND THIS HAPPENED SATURDAY AFTERNOON ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE FORD DEALER.
