WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE UPHILL OR ACCELERATING ONTO THE HIGHWAY OR FREEWAY THERE IS A STRONG EXHAUST ODOR IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE COMING FROM THE VENTS. IT WAS DETECTED EARLIER THIS YEAR, HOWEVER WE DID SOME EXTRA DRIVING THROUGH THE SUMMER TO CONFIRM THE ISSUE. ONCE CONFIRMED, WE TOOK IT TO OUR FORD DEALER. THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE ISSUE, BUT HAD AN IDEA AS HOW TO FIX THE ISSUE. TO FIX IT, THEY HAD TO GET APPROVAL FROM FORD CORPORATE TO DO THE FIX. FORD CORPORATE TOLD THEM THERE WAS NO ISSUE SINCE IT COULD NOT BE RECREATED, AND WE CAN PICK UP THE VEHICLE AT ANY TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS DROPPED OFF AT OUR DEALERSHIP ON AUGUST 31, 2017. WE WERE NOTIFIED TODAY (SEPT. 7, 2017) THAT THE VEHICLE HAS NO ISSUE; THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT ON THE CIVILIAN EXPLORERS.

AFTER REPEATED COMPLAIN THE SERVICE TEAM WASN'T ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM SO FORD COOPERATE REFEREED TO THE ANOTHER DEALER GALPIN FOR THE SECOND OPTION AND THEY FOUND OUT THERE WAS A GAS LICKAGE FROM THE AC VENT AND THEY TRIED TO FIX IT BUT THERE STILL SMELL COMING OUT FROM AC VENT. MY AND MY WIFE HAVE BEEN FACING CONSTANT MEDICAL ISSUE SUCH AS HEAD ACE, DIFFICULT TO SLEEP IN THE NIGHT, RUNNING NOISE IN / AFTER TRAVEL IN THE SUV AND SOME IT MAKES ME FALL SLEEP WHILE DRIVING. FEW TIMES I ALMOST CAUSE ACCIDENT WHILE ON THE FREEWAY.

EXHAUST FUMES COMING THRU AC VENTS UNDER ACCELERATION. HEAVY ODOR OF SULFUR IN CAB!
Other or unspecified, Engine, Aug 19, 2017
FOR THE PAST YEAR I HAVE SMELLED EXHAUST IN MY BRAND NEW VEHICLE. ABOUT 9 MONTHS AGO I HAD IT TESTED AT FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT FOR POSSIBLE CARBON MONOXIDE BECAUSE THE EXHAUST SMELL WAS BAD, PARTICULARLY WHEN HITTING SPEEDS AROUND 70MPH. FORD LAUGHED AT AND SAID THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. THE SMELL CONTINUED, MYSELF AND MY DAUGHTER WOULD GET HEADACHES, SHORTNESS OF BREATH AND I WOULD FEEL NAUSEOUS AFTER DRIVING A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. EARLIER THIS WEEK I WAS SO DIZZY, I NEEDED TO PULL OVER TWICE JUST TO GAIN MY FOCUS. I PURCHASED A CARBON MONOXIDE TESTER. YES, THERE IS CARBON MONOXIDE. I AM A BIT FRUSTRATED SINCE THE ISSUE COULD HAVE BEEN FIXED PREVIOUSLY, RATHER THAN LAUGHED AT ME AND I ENDURED POOR HEALTH FOR SO LONG.

CARBON MONOXIDE LEAK COMING THROUGH BACK VENTS. I HAVE LITERALLY FELT FUZZINESS, NAUSEOUS, INTERMITTENT SEVERE HEADACHES, DIFFICULTY CHANGING LANES FROM CONFUSION, AND LOOPY WHILE DRIVING. CALLED MY FREEWAY FORD, AND THEY VERIFIED THAT MY CAR DID IN FACT HAVE EXHAUST COMING THROUGH BACK VENT. THEY FIXED UNDER TSB - TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN, NOT AN OFFICIAL RECALL. I ASSUMED THAT I HAD SOMETHING SEVERELY WRONG WITH MY HEALTH UNTIL THE NEWS STORIES CAME OUT ABOUT THE POLICE OFFICERS PASSING OUT, AND HAVING SOME OF THE SAME SYMPTOMS. BINGO, IT WAS MY CAR! FORD SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR NOT PUTTING OUT AN OFFICIAL RECALL. THERE MOTTO IS TO GO FURTHER, BUT THEY ARE SIMPLY SITTING BACK WHILE THEY COMPROMISE THE SAFETY OF DRIVERS. I HAVE WRITTEN TO THE PRESIDENT AND GROUP VP & CEO OF GENERAL COUNSEL AT FORD MOTOR COMPANY. MY LETTER WAS SENT CERTIFIED MAIL ON 7/26/17; RECEIVED 7/31/17; STILL NO RESPONSE. I AM ATTACHING LETTER.

I AM HAVING FUME LEAKAGE INTO THE CABIN OF MY VEHICLE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO DAHL FORD -LA CROSSE AND THEY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 WEEKS. WHEN I CALLED THE TECH PERSON TOLD ME THEY WERE WAITING FOR PARTS TO FIX MY VEHICLE AND THAT THERE WAS A LEAK INTO THE CABIN. AFTER ANOTHER WEEK WENT BY WITHOUT ANY WORD I CALLED AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. I WENT INTO SEE THE DEPT MANAGER AND HE SAID THERE WAS NEVER ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. WHEN I ASKED HIM WHO WAS LYING HIM OR THE TECH PERSON HE DID NOT REPLY. THEY SAID THEY HAD THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT TEST THE VEHICLE FOR CARBON MONOXIDE BUT THEY DID NOT LIST UNDER WHAT CONDITIONS IT WAS TESTED AT. I HAD MY OWN CARBON MONOXIDE TESTER IN THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS REGISTERING CARBON MONOXIDE. I LEFT VERY UPSET AS I HAVE BEEN SICK AFTER I DRIVE IN THE VEHICLE. THEY WON'T LET ME OUT OF MY LEASE EITHER AND WON'T DO ANYTHING TO FIX. I LEFT VERY UPSET. THE FUMES OCCUR WHEN SITTING IDLE AND AIR CONDITIONER ON AND WHEN MOVING, AIR CONDITIONER ON AND ACCELERATING. I SENT A LETTER TO FORD CORPORATE EXPLAINING THIS IN SEPTEMBER 2016 AND HAVE NOT HEARD A WORD BACK.
Other or unspecified, Aug 10, 2017
SUSPECT CARBON MONOXIDE FUMES INSIDE EXPLORER. PASSENGERS AND DRIVER HAVE HEADACHE, NAUSEA, DIZZINESS, SLEEPY, NOSE AND EYES BURN, CHEST HURTS. LONG TRIPS IT'S AWFUL HAVE TO STOP AND GET OUT FOR FRESH AIR BEFORE WE FALL ASLEEP. AM ALMOST AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. FORD SAYS NO PROBLEM BUT THEY'RE DEFINITELY IS A PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE. I AM GOING TO ANOTHER DEALER TO SEE IF THEY FIND ANYTHING THAT THE OTHER DIDN'T. HOPE WE CAN GET SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS. BAD TO PAY THAT MUCH FOR A VEHICLE AND THEN HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM IS CONSTANT WHEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. THANKS. Other or unspecified, Aug 7, 2017
EXHAUST LEAK CONTINUES EVEN AFTER DEALER REPAIR. I AM STILL EXPERIENCING FOUL ODORS IN THE CABIN OF MY EXPLORER, WHICH I BELIEVE ARE RELATED TO THE CURRENT EXHAUST ISSUE NOW UNDER INVESTIGATION. ODORS ARE ESPECIALLY STRONG WHEN VEHICLE IS REMOTE STARTED AND A/C IS RUNNING. ALSO NOTICE SAME BAD ODORS AROUND ENGINE AREA OF VEHICLE WHILE RUNNING OR AFTER TURNED OFF - EVEN UP TO 2 HOURS AFTER ENGINE HAS STOPPED. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH A CO2 DETECTOR IN THE VEHICLE - AND TO DATE IT HAS NOT BEEN SET OFF - HOWEVER I EXPERIENCE A DRY THROAT AND HEADACHES AFTER DRIVING IN THE VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL HOURS. THE DEALER FIX HAS REDUCED THE SMELL OF BURNING HAIR/ELECTRICAL FIRE, BUT NOT TOTALLY DIMINISHED IT. BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF SPEEDY ACTION FROM THE NHSTA (THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN KNOWN FOR SEVERAL YEARS ACCORDING TO PRESS STORIES), I WILL BE SELLING THE VEHICLE FOR THIS REASON AND THIS REASON ALONE. MY FAMILY DOESN'T LIKE TO RIDE IN THE VEHICLE ANYMORE AND IF THE GOVERNMENT WON'T TAKE ACTION TO LOOK OUT FOR OUR SAFETY, I WILL SIMPLY BUY ANOTHER CAR. I'LL LOSE A LOT OF MONEY ON THE TRADE-IN, BUT YOU CANNOT PUT A PRICE ON THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF YOUR FAMILY.

EXHAUST LEAK INSIDE THE CABIN WHEN I CELEBRATE
Other or unspecified, Engine, Aug 5, 2017
WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, UPON ACCELERATING, EVEN WITH THE CIRCULATING AIR ON, THE FUMES ARE VERY STRONG COMING INTO THE CABIN OF THE CAR. ALSO, WHEN FIRST STARTING THE CAR WITH THE A/C ON, THERE IS A VERY SOUR/STALE ODOR COMING FROM THE VENTS. WE MADE A 2 HOUR TRIP, AND AFTER BEING IN THE CAR THAT LONG, I HAD A BAD HEADACHE AND FELT NAUSEATED FROM THE FUMES. I AM THE MAIN DRIVER OF THE CAR AND IT IS MY SOLE SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION. EVER SINCE WE PURCHASED THE CAR BACK IN JANUARY OF 2017, I STARTED GETTING BAD HEADACHES AND HAVE THEN ON A REGULAR BASIS. I'M STARTING TO THINK THEY ARE COMING FROM THIS CAR. IT HAS BEEN IN A FORD GARAGE NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE WE PURCHASED IT BUT THEY SAY EVERYTHING CHECKS OUT OK.
Other or unspecified, Aug 5, 2017
WHEN ACCELERATING TO MERGE ONTO THE HIGHWAY IT SMELLS AS IF EXHAUST FUMES ARE ENTERING THE CABIN. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS IS SAFE OR HEALTHY IF IN FACT I'M BREATHING EXHAUST FUMES. PLEASE REVIEW AND ADVISE. THANK YOU.

EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING VEHICLE DURING ACCELERATION.
Other or unspecified, Engine, Aug 4, 2017
SINCE WE HAVE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WE HAVE SMELLED A ROTTEN EGG/BURNT HAIR SMELL FROM THE VEHICLE. IT IS AT ITS MOST POTENT POINT WHEN ACCELERATING TO HIGHER RATES OF SPEED. IT KEEPS A FAIRLY CONSISTENT SMELL AT SPEEDS OF 65 MPH AND HIGHER AS WELL. THE SMELL ALWAYS SEEMS TO COME FROM THE AIR CONDITIONING VENTS. IS IT ALSO COINCIDENTAL THAT THE CABIN AIR FILTER ALREADY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED? THIS HAS MADE FOR DISORIENTING AND NAUSEATING TRIPS IN THE VEHICLE FOR ALL PASSENGERS. OUR CHILD HAS COMPLAINED AND HAS FELT ILL WHEN RIDING IN HIS CAR SEAT IN THE SECOND ROW. ON A RECENT 6500 MILE ROAD TRIP, I BECAME SEVERELY ILL AND HAD DIFFICULTY BREATHING WHILE RIDING IN THE TRUCK. I WAS NAUSEATED FOR SEVERAL HOURS AFTERWARDS AND HAD AN EXCRUCIATING HEADACHE. WE DISCUSSED THIS WITH THE LOCATION WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND THEY STATED THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. WE THEN TOOK IT TO ANOTHER LOCATION IN CABOT, ARKANSAS AND AGAIN; NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT. WE WERE TOLD THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND IT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW. WHY WERE WE NOT WARNED OF THIS ISSUE? WE ARE PUTTING OUR HEALTH AND MY CHILD'S HEALTH ON THE LINE EVERY TIME WE DRIVE THE TRUCK BUT DUE TO OUR FINANCES, WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE.

CARBON MONOXIDE LEAK. WHEN I ACCELERATE AS I GET INTO AN EXPRESSWAY RAMP, A STRONG ODOR COMES INTO THE CAR LIKE ROTTEN EGG. VERY CONCERNING, SPECIALLY SINCE I TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALER TO GET IT FIXED AND IS STILL AN ISSUE.
