I TOOK MY 2016 FORD EXPLORER XLT ON DEC 29TH 2020 TO GET A OIL CHANGE ETC. THEY HAD THE VEHICLE ALL DAY EVEN THOUGH I TOOK IT IN AT 7AM. I PICK IT UP A 4:45 PM THEN DRIVE IT HOME BECAUSE I WORK FROM HOME I DID NOT DRIVE IT AGAIN UNTIL SATURDAY JAN 9TH 2021, WHILE DRIVING IT THAT MORNING I REALIZED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS HARD TO STEER AND THE TRUCK WOULD MAKE NOISES WHEN I TURN THE STEERING IN EITHER DIRECTION. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT MORNING AND ASKED THE SERVICE CONSULTANT TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT. HE TOLD ME WHILE MY FATHER WAS ON THE PHONE THAT HE BELIEVES IT THE RACK AND PINION AND HE CAN'T TAKE IT BECAUSE THEY ARE BUSY AND IT'S OKAY FOR ME TO DRIVE IT. I ALSO TOLD HIM AT THAT TIME I AM SUPPOSED TO DRIVE OUT OF TOWN AND I WON'T BE BACK FOR AWHILE SO IF THERE IS A PROBLEM I RATHER LEAVE IT SO IT CAN BE FIXED. I HAVE DAMAGED ON MY C5 VERTEBRAE SO I CAN FEEL THE HARDNESS IN THE STEERING. HE ASSURED OR DISMISSED ME BUT HE SAID IT'S FINE. A FEW HOURS LATER THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED UP AND THE DASHBOARD STARTED MAKING NOISE AND THE WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGES STARTED TO DISPLAYING. IT ALMOST KILLED BOTH MY MOTHER AND I ON THE HIGHWAY. IF YOU KNOW NYC HIGHWAY YOU KNOW THERE IS NO SHOULDERS. WHEN I PULLED OF THE ROAD THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND I COULD NOT MOVE IT. I HAD TO PAY FOR THE TRUCK TO BE TOWED AND A UBER FOR MYSELF BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEN PAID FOR ME TO GET HOME. NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT I HAVE TO PAY $2719.81 FOR THE RACK AND PINION REPAIR AND THE ALSO PAY FOR THE STRUT BEARING TO BE REPAIRED WHICH THEY HAVEN'T GIVEN ME THE PRICE FOR IT BECAUSE "IT WAS TOO MUCH TO GIVE ME BOTH PRICE AT ONCE." OH BY THE WAY, THIS IS THE SAME SERVICE CONSULTANT THAT TOLD ME IT WAS FINE FOR ME TO DRIVE AND ALMOST KILLED 2 GENERATION OF MY FAMILY AT THE SAME TIME. I AM PISSED!! NOW I SEE OTHER CUSTOMERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE ON THERE SUV!!

CAR WENT IN FOR RECALL NHTSA #20V675 AND DEALER INSPECTED VEHICLE AND INFORMED US, IT HAS FAILED INSPECTION AND WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. THEY HAVE PARTS QUOTED AT 4-6 WEEKS OUT AND WE ASKED ABOUT A RENTAL VEHICLE AND WERE INFORMED THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED. WE ASKED IF THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND THEY WILL NOT STATE IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE, SO THEREFORE WE CANNOT DRIVE IT. CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WERE INFORMED OUR RENTAL REQUEST WAS DENIED AND THEY WILL NOT SAY THE CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE. WE CANNOT BE WITHOUT A CAR FOR 6 WEEKS AND CANNOT AFFORD A RENTAL FOR THAT AMOUNT OF TIME. FORD SHOULD COVER RENTAL WHEN PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE.

EXHAUST IS GETTING INTO THE CAB OF VEHICLE WHEN UNDER MODERATE ACCELERATION TO PASS VEHICLES AND WHEN THE WINDOW OR WINDOWS ARE OPEN IT IS EVEN WORSE.

  13. Other or unspecified, Jul 4, 2020

GETTING VERY HEAVY FUMES OF EXHAUST INSIDE THE CAB. SMELLS LIKE EXHAUST OR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. WHILE IN MOTION AND THEN WHEN GETTING BACK IN THE VEHICLE ANY TIME LATER. DOES NOT MATTER WHERE IT WAS DRIVEN. *TR

  14. Other or unspecified, Jun 6, 2020

VERY SOON AFTER ACCELERATING ANYWHERE NEAR FULL THROTTLE WE SMELL A BURNING TYPE EMISSIONS SMELL WITHIN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. IT IS MOST NOTICEABLE IN THE BACKSEATS BUT IS ALARMING ENOUGH TO WHERE WE NEED TO OPEN THE WINDOWS EVERY TIME WE NEED TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY. *TR

  17. Other or unspecified, Mar 17, 2020

WHEN SITTING IDLE AND STATIONARY, A STRONG ODOR OF ROTTEN EGGS/EXHAUST ENTER THE CABIN THROUGH THE AIR VENTS. THE CAR CONTINUES TO HAVE A STRONG ODOR AFTER BEING TURNED OFF. THE ODOR WAS SO STRONG OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE THAT WE HAD TO PARK IT FAR AWAY FROM THE HOUSE BECAUSE THE SMELL WAS COMING INTO THE HOUSE THROUGH THE GARAGE. AFTER TAKING THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEM TELLING US IT WAS FIXED, I TRUSTED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE AND TOOK MY 4 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER TO THE GROCERY STORE. IMMEDIATELY AT THE FIRST STOP LIGHT AND SITTING IN IDLE, THE ODOR WAS RELEASED INTO THE CABIN OF THE CAR- NO DIFFERENT THAN PRIOR TO BEING "FIXED." WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD US WE HAD TO DRIVE THE SMELL OFF AND PUSH IT THROUGH THE VENTILATION SYSTEM. THE SMELL CONTINUED WITHOUT RELIEF AND I IMMEDIATELY DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME (15 MINUTE DRIVE) WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN DURING AN OHIO WINTER OF 34 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT FOR MY HUSBAND TO RETURN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. UPON ARRIVING HOME, EVEN WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN I HAD A HEADACHE AND FELT NAUSEOUS. I WOULD HATE TO KNOW WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP'S ADVICE. OUR VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO US A SECOND TIME AND THE ISSUE WAS STILL UNRESOLVED. AT THIS MOMENT, OUR VEHICLE IS AT OUR LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP WITH WHAT SEEMS LIKE NO END IN SIGHT. FORD HAS PUT US BACK INTO A FAULTY AND DANGEROUS VEHICLE TWICE NOW AND WE HAVE LITTLE TRUST OR FAITH THAT OUR FORD EXPLORER WILL BE RETURNED TO US AS A SAFE FAMILY CAR. ALSO TO NOTE, WE DID HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED FOR RECALL RELATED TO CARBON MONOXIDE.

VEHICLE EMITS A STRONG EXHAUST / SULFUR SMELL WHEN ACCELERATING OR PLACING A LOAD ON THE ENGINE SUCH AS USING A/C OR DRIVING UPHILL.

  20. Other or unspecified, Feb 6, 2020

FOR A FEW MONTHS WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE FROM A RED LIGHT OR SITTING STILL THE SMELL OF ROTTEN EGGS WOULD COME INTO MY VEHICLE. WITH ME HAVING KIDS I FIGURED IT WAS JUST THEM PASSING GAS, HOWEVER REPEATEDLY IT STARTED HAPPENING & IF THE A/C OR HEATER WAS ON IT WAS WORSE. I TOOK IT TO WORLD FORD IN PENSACOLA ON TUESDAY 02/04/2020, THEY DID NOT GET TO IT UNTIL 02/05/2020 AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAD A DIAGNOSIS & THE WAY MY VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED THE AERODYNAMICS WERE ALLOWING THE EXHAUST FUMES TO ENTER THE CABIN. I AM ABSOLUTELY UPSET AT THIS BEING AS THOUGH NOT ONLY MYSELF, BUT MY KIDS, OTHER PASSENGERS, AND THEIR KIDS HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO CARBON MONOXIDE IN A CLOSED IN AREA. FORD MAKES IT SOUND ACCEPTABLE BY SAYING IT'S COVERED UNDER WARRANTY HOWEVER A MANUFACTURER DEFAULT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND FIXED IMMEDIATELY, THIS PROBLEM COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL TO MYSELF, MY FAMILY, AND MY FRIENDS.

I'M AFRAID I'LL PASS OUT DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND THE DEALER IS OVERLOADED WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT SUDDENLY IN CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI

EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING THE CABIN OF VEHICLE NEAR MIDDLE AND REAR SEATS.WHILE DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY AT 70MPH PASSENGERS TURNED ON AIR FOR THE BACK AND AN ODD SMELL WAS NOTICED. AIR WAS TURNED OFF AT THE BACK. ONCE AT LOCATION READY TO PARK SMELL BEGAN TO GET WORSE. VERY NOTICEABLE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE. ODOR CLUNG TO SKIN. POSSIBLY CO LEAK.

I WAS MERGING TO ENTER THE HIGHWAY WHEN ALL THE SUDDEN I COULDN'T CONTROL THE ACCELERATION AND ALMOST GOT HIT BY ANOTHER CAR. THE CAR WILL NOT RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL LIKE IF IT WAS IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION. THIS KEEPS HAPPENING RANDOMLY ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING A LOWER SPEEDS AND ONCE YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE THE CAR WOULDN'T RESPOND FOR A BIT AND THEN DOES IT ABRUPTLY. I ALMOST GOT INTO A SECOND ACCIDENT AND IT WAS WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I REFUSE TO DRIVE IT. THEY HAVE MY CAR SINCE ALMOST TWO MONTHS NOW WITHOUT SOLVING THE PROBLEM COMPLETELY BECAUSE IT DOES NOT SHOW UP IN THE COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC AND THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE A RECALL FOR IT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND IT SHOULD OFF BEEN PART OF A RECALL LONG TIME AGO.

I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL IN THE MAIL. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN JUNE 2019 BUT THE RECALL ENDED IN AUGUST 2019 AND I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED
