  1. Engine, Dec 27, 2017

I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT EXHAUST ENTERING THIS VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. FORD'S REMEDY IS NOT CORRECTING THE DEFECT. SOME PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN THEIR VEHICLES TO THE DEALER UP TO 7 TIMES AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. SOME PEOPLE HAVE PASSED OUT FROM THE FUMES AND CRASHED THEIR VEHICLES. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS DO YOU NEED TO RECEIVE TO ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL? DO YOU EVEN READ THESE COMPLAINTS. I CALLED YOUR HOT LINE THIS MORNING AND NO ONE COULD GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROBLEM AFTER WAITING ON HOLD FOR 25 MINUTES. YOUR WEBSITE ONLY SHOWS COMPLAINTS AND NO UPDATES ABOUT YOUR INVESTIGATION OF THE ISSUE. I CALLED FORD TWICE AND GOT THE RUN AROUND. I CALLED MY DEALER TWICE WITH NO SATISFACTION. HOW MANY PEOPLE NEED TO GET SICK OR DIE BEFORE YOU TAKE ACTION. MY VEHICLE IS OVER 2 YEARS OLD AND ONLY HAS 2800 MILES ON IT BUT IT HAS ISSUES WITH EXHAUST ENTERING THE VEHICLE. I READ THAT FORD WILL REPROGRAM THE CLIMATE CONTROL MODULE TO LET MORE FRESH AIR IN FROM OUTSIDE BUT THAT WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE IS NO FRESH AIR WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AND DRAWING IN EXHAUST FROM ALL THE CARS IN FRONT OF YOU. I WILL FIX THE PROBLEM MYSELF OR WAIT UNTIL YOU OR FORD KNOWS THE REAL CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AND DECIDES TO FIX IT INSTEAD OF TRYING TO PACIFY THE OWNERS.

  2. Other or unspecified, Dec 19, 2017

SMELLING EXHAUST ODORS IN THE OCCUPANT COMPARTMENT. CONCERNS ABOUT EXPOSURE TO CARBON MONOXIDE. SMELL IS WORSE WHEN CAR IS STATIONARY AND WHEN HEATER IS ON.

  3. Other or unspecified, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 17, 2017

CAR SMELLS STRONGLY LIKE NATURAL GAS INSIDE CABIN WHEN DRIVING, AND WHEN SITTING STILL - EYES BURN, THROAT SORE, HEADACHE AFTER DRIVING IT FOR 5 MINS OR MORE.

  4. Engine, Nov 20, 2017

EXHAUST FUME SMELL, LIKE ROTTEN EGGS CAUSING NAUSEA AND BAD HEADACHES. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD, BOTH HIGHWAY AND CITY STREETS

  5. Other or unspecified, Nov 19, 2017

EXHAUST FUMES ARE SOME HOW LEAKING THROUGH THE CABIN. FUMES ARE MOSTLY NOTICED WHEN GETTING ON THE FREEWAY OR HARD ACCELERATION.

  6. Other or unspecified, Nov 17, 2017

HANKOOK VENTUS S1 NOBLE 2 TIRES THAT ARE ON THE EXPLORER ARE FAULTY CAUSING THE THREAD TO SHRED. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED MY TIRES TO COME SORT WHILE DRIVING AND POSSIBLE COLLISION & INJURY. THERE WAS ONLY 12,995 MILES ON THEM. NO EXTREME DRIVING CONDITIONS ETC. I HAD TO REPLACE TODAY.

  7. Power train, Electrical system, Nov 17, 2017

POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE AND ENGINE CONTROL MODULE FAILED UNDER HIGH SPEED ON A 4 LANE ROAD. WE WERE ALMOST KILLED BY BEING REAR-ENDED TRAFFIC AS VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, ENGINE OFF, AND COMPLETELY DEAD. NOT ABLE TO STEER OR BRAKE. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 12,854 ACTUAL MILES. PLEASE FIX THIS BEFORE OTHERS ARE KILLED AND/OR MAIMED.

CARBON MONOXIDE ISSUE INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE

  9. Air bags, Nov 13, 2017

WAS WARNED OF DEFECTIVE AIRBAGS., 2016 FORD EXPLORER SPORT.

  10. Steering, Nov 11, 2017

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, ALARMS GO OFF AND A NOTICE SAYING 'STEERING ASSIST FAULT' IS DISPLAYED. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 DIFFERENT TIME AT RANDOM. 1 TIME, THE STEERING COMPLETELY WENT OUT AND THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER STEERING. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS THIS IS A FAMILY VEHICLE TRANSPORTING VERY YOUNG CHILDREN.

  11. Other or unspecified, Engine, Nov 2, 2017

I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN AUGUST OF 2016 AND NOTICED WHEN ACCELERATING TO GET ON A HIGHWAY OR DOING ANY TYPE OF QUICK ACCELERATION THE VEHICLE PUT OFF AN AWFUL SMELL IN THE CAB AND THE SMELL IS SIMILAR TO ROTTEN EGGS. I'VE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR ALL ITS REGULAR MAINTENANCE AT THE DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THE RESPONSE I GOT WAS WE HEARD THIS BEFORE BUT HAVE NO SOLUTION. NO SOLUTION?? I'M BREATHING IN GOD KNOWS WHAT AND I'M ALWAYS IN THE VEHICLE WITH MY FAMILY, FRIENDS AND BUSINESS ASSOCIATES AND THAT WAS THE RESPONSE I GET! I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT ITS POSSIBLE DOING TO MYSELF AND OTHERS BUT I'LL TELL YOU THIS IT CANNOT BE GOOD. I AM AT THE POINT WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT I DON'T WANT TO GET IN IT ANY LONGER AS I AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY HEALTH AND WHAT POSSIBLE DAMAGE ITS DOING TO ME AND OTHERS. I AM SO DISAPPOINTED IN THE FACT THEY HAVE NO SOLUTION AND I WILL NOT BE BUYING ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT EVER AGAIN.. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE THE WEEK I PICKED IT UP AND HAS NOT STOPPED IN OVER A YEAR AND 2 MONTHS. IF THERE WAS A WAY TO GET RID OF IT TODAY I WOULD BUT UNFORTUNATELY I STILL HAVE A YEAR AND 8 MOTHS BEFORE I CAN TURN IT IN, WHICH I WILL THE FIRST DAY I CAN LEGALLY CAN.. FORD SHOULD TAKE THESE CARS BACK AND TERMINATE THE LOANS OR LEASES AND LET PEOPLE GO GET SOMETHING THAT'S SAFER FOR THEM TO BE IN. DON'T GIVE BACK THE MONEY AS MYSELF AND OTHERS HAVE USED THE VEHICLES UP TILL THIS POINT. TO BE FAIR FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULDN'T BE RESPONSIBLE TO PAYING PEOPLE BACK FOR A TIME THAT PEOPLE USED THE VEHICLE BUT THEY SHOULD TAKE THEM BACK. THEY ARE MAKING VEHICLES ( FORD EXPLORERS ) THAT ARE NOT SAFE FOR PEOPLES HEALTH. ONE VERY DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER. IN THE END THEY WILL GET THE CAR BACK AND I WILL MOVE ALONG TO ANOTHER BRAND!

  12. Power train, Nov 1, 2017

WHEN I PLACE MY EXPLORER IN REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF A PARK, WHEN I AM ABOUT HALF WAY OUT OF THE PARK, THERE'S A LOUD "BUMP". I AUTOMATICALLY SLAM ON BRAKES BECAUSE I THINK I HAVE RAN OVER SOMEONE. RECENTLY, I PLACED MY EXPLORER IN DRIVE SO THAT I COULD PULL OUT OF THE GARAGE AND I HEARD THE LOUD "BUMP". I HAVE TAKEN MY EXPLORER TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT IS. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED FORD AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT IS. FORD FINALLY OFFERED A 100K MILE WARRANTY BUT THAT DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

  13. Electrical system, Nov 1, 2017, fire

THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, AND WHEN WE ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE BY PUSHING THE START BUTTON, THE VEHICLE DID NOT START BUT A LARGE AMOUNT OF SMOKE POURED OUT OF THE DASHBOARD. THE REPAIR FACILITY PERFORMED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF WORK WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, BUT STATED THAT THEY DID NOT DISCOVER WHAT THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE ISSUE WAS.

  14. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 30, 2017

OUR FORD EXPLORER HAS AN EXHAUST LEAK THAT ENTERS THROUGH THE DASH VENTS WHEN DRIVING, OR WHEN PARKED WITH MOTOR RUNNING. WHEN I PARK IN GARAGE. I HAVE TO OPEN BACK AND FRONT GARAGE DOORS TO ALLOW AIR TO "CLEAR " IR FROM GARAGE, SO IT DOES NOT ENTER HOME. OUR FORD DEALER SAID THERE IS NO RECALL.

  15. Other or unspecified, Oct 26, 2017, crash

I PASSED OUT WHILE DRIVING MY 2016 FORD EXPLORER DOWN THE FREEWAY. THE VEHICLE WENT OFF THE ROADWAY AND DOWN THE EMBANKMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THERE IS NOW A FORD RECALL ON THE VEHICLE, ISSUED TODAY, 10/26/2017 (FORD RECALL: 17N03) FOR CARBON MONOXIDE CONCERNS. FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS ISSUE FOR MONTHS AND NOT ISSUED A RECALL UNTIL MANY MONTHS LATER. AT THE TIME OF MY COLLISION, THE COUNTY I LIVE IN WAS IN A STATE OF EMERGENCY AND I WENT TO THE 1 OPEN HOSPITAL. DUE TO THE CIRCUMSTANCES AND NOT THINKING THAT CARBON MONOXIDE COULD HAVE CAUSED THE INCIDENT, I DID NOT GET BLOOD WORK DONE TO CONFIRM IF I HAD BEEN POISONED BY CARBON MONOXIDE.

  16. Engine, Oct 24, 2017

CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR WAS ACTIVATED WHILE DRIVING OUR 2016 FORD EXPLORER.

BURNING HAIR SMELL IN CABIN OF VEHICLE. NOTICE IT DURING BREAK IN INFORMED SERVICE ADVISER OF SMELL WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE FIRST SERVICE. TAKEN BACK SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS WITCH RESULTS IN THE ODOR BEING WORST NOW THAN FIRST NOTICED. FORD HAS REPLACED THE AIR VENT LOCATED BETWEEN THE HOOD AND THE WINDSHIELD. THEY HAVE REPLACED BODY PANELS AND SEALED OPENING IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE LAST REPAIR WAS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE EXHAUST SYSTEM. DURING A TRIP TO FLORIDA AFTER THE EXHAUST REPLACEMENT WE WERE ABOUT 100 MILES FROM HOME DRIVING 70+ MPH ON I-10. WHEN MY WIFE COMPLAINED OF HER HEART POUNDING, FEELING NAUSEOUS AND PASSED OUT FOR A MOMENT. I NOTICED THAT I HAD A HEADACHE ALSO AND I IMMEDIATELY ROLLED THE WINDOW DOWN. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES MY WIFE FELT BETTER SO I DID NOT CONTINUE TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL AS SHE HAD ASKED. WE DROVE WITH THE WINDOWS OPEN FOR THE REST OF OUR 525 MILE TRIP AND DROVE HOME WITH THEM DOWN FOR ANOTHER 525 MILE. SINCE RETURNING I HAVE WRITTEN A SECOND LETTER TO FORD EXPLAINING OUR COMPLAINT. NEED TO HAVE THE PROBLEM RESOLVED. MY WIFE HAS HEART ISSUES, TAKES BLOOD THINNERS AND MAY HAVE BEEN MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE CARBON-MONOXIDE THAN I. SHE IS SCARED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE VERY MUCH AND WE CAN NOT AFFORD TO PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE BECAUSE WE COULD NOT SELL THIS ONE WITH IT'S PROBLEMS.

  18. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 20, 2017

THE TAILPIPE OCCASIONALLY EMITS BLUE-GRAY SMOKE, AS IF IT IS BURNING OIL. I HAVE WITNESSED THIS WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OCCASIONALLY SMELLS LIKE SMOKE. THE PASSENGERS IN THE REAR OF THE CAR TEND TO NOTICE IT FIRST, AND THEN THE PASSENGERS IN THE FRONT CAN SMELL IT. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN ACCELERATING AT A HIGH RATE, SUCH AS WHEN ENTERING A HIGHWAY FROM AN ON-RAMP.

  19. Engine, Oct 19, 2017

PURCHASED NEW VEHICLE 2/2016 AND HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 7 TIMES DUE TO ENGINE/EXHAUST SMELL ON HEAVY ACCELERATION COMING IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. 22. Structure, Other or unspecified, Oct 18, 2017

WE HAVE NOTICED A FOUL SMELL IN OUR FORD EX SINCE WE PURCHASED IT WITH NO EXPLANATION REGARDING THE CAUSE. I BELIEVE THAT IT IS RELATED TO THE CARBON MONOXIDE ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. WAS TRAVELING DOWN A CITY SURFACE STREET WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE TRIED TO BEAT ME TO GETTING ONTO THE SAME STREET I WAS TRAVELING ON MADE A SUDDEN TURN BEFORE I COULD GET TO HIS LOCATION. UPON TRYING TO MANEUVER AND AVOID A COLLISION THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DID NOT RESPOND TO THE MANEUVER AND INSTEAD VEERED OFF THE ROAD AND CRASHED INTO A RESIDENCE. STEERING FAILED TO FUNCTION AS INTENDED, ABS SYSTEM ALSO FAILED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. THIS HAS NOT BEEN THE FIRST TIME I GOT INTO A WRECK LIKE THIS WITH THIS VEHICLE. MAKING A SUDDEN TURN IN THIS VEHICLE WILL LIKELY SUFFER SOME SORT OF ACCIDENT, VEHICLE DOES NOT RESPOND LIKE IT SHOULD WITH ALL THEM ELECTRICAL SAFETY FEATURES.

  24. Steering, Oct 17, 2017

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY FAILED AND MADE THE STEERING WHEEL VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. DURING THE INCIDENT, THE "AUTO STEERING SYSTEM FAULTY, HILL START ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE, SERVICE ADVANCE TRACK, AND TORRAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FAULT" WARNING MESSAGES DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CURRIE FORD IN VALPERASO, IN WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING RACK MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.

  25. Other or unspecified, Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 16, 2017

ALTHOUGH I HAVE NOT YET RECD. ANY LETTERS FROM FORD ON REPAIRING MY EXPLORER, MY SON OFTEN COMPLAINTS OF UNEASINESS AND NAUSEA WHEN SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT OF MY CAR. I DON'T PARTICULARLY NOTICE ANY SMELL BUT I AM NOW CONCERNED THAT THIS IS RELATED TO THE OTHER NEWS AROUND FUMES AND CO ENTERING THE CABIN. THIS HAPPENS SPECIALLY WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING AND A/C IS ON WITH A/C WINDOWS CLOSED. I NOTICED THIS ONLY DURING OUR SUMMER BREAK THIS TIME WHEN MY SON SPENT A LOT OF TIME IN THE CAR AS OPPOSED TO SCHOOL NIGHTS.
