Shifted into 1st gear from 10th while driving 70mph
Power train, Vehicle speed control, Aug 10, 2026
When driving, especially from a low gear (2-5), the transmission will downshift to 1, high revving, and then slam back into 4 or 5th, depending on where it downshifted. Sometimes the rapid acceleration causes the back of the truck to start to break lose. I notice this alot when trying to get up to speed, and can usually take my foot off pedal and it will slow the vehicle and upshift.
Power train, Engine, Aug 10, 2026
My truck has routinely been very hard shifting in 3rd to 4th gear. Recently it downshifted from 8th to 4th without warning and made a loud clunking noise. It still runs, but the transmission seems to be getting worse.
Power train, Aug 9, 2026
Transmission was shifting erratically and harsh. Hesitation in shifting from a stop and when accelerating on highway. Shutter when starting from a complete stop in lower gears. The vehicle would not slam into gear but the hesitation was enough to jolt driver and passenger when it would finally shift through the higher gears. Gears 7-10 seemed ok but 3-6 had definite hesitation.

My tuck downshifted to first going 42 mph, almost caused me to get rear ended, please make ford fix this
Power train, Aug 7, 2026
Since purchasing this vehicle new in Dec 2019, I have had issues with hard shifting/clunking when going from park to reverse and driving. There is also a vibration going down the road and hard, erratic shifting up through the gears, as well as when slowing down. At around 15,000 miles I took it back to the dealership where they could not figure out what was wrong and just reprogrammed the software on the learn to drive system. That would corrected it for a short period of time. This was again done at around 25,000 miles. I brought this up at least 3-4 more times while having it in for servicing at Kruse Ford in Marshall MN and it was always, "cannot duplicate." I took it there at 58,000 miles before the warranty was up and again they said they could not duplicate the problem... It showed up as soon as I pull off the lot.. On 8/6/2026, now with 80,000 miles on it, I took it into Atwater Ford in Atwater MN where I purchased it new and they pulled up Ford TSB 25-2475 where it says the CDF clutch cylinder and a bunch of parts need to be replaced in the transmission. This TSB identified a previous TSB so I went back to see when they came out. In all I found a handful of TSBs on this issue that FIRST came out in May of 2023, well before my warranty was up and when the mileage was under the 60,000. This should have been found and repaired under warranty.

I am reporting a safety-related transmission problem I experienced with my 2019 Ford F-150 equipped with the 10R80 automatic transmission. While driving normally, the transmission unexpectedly shifted into first gear, RPMs flared, the transmission light comes on and the vehicle remains in limp mode. Turning off the vehicle and turning it back on does not resolve the issue, vehicle remained in limp mode and would not shift out of 1st gear. I had the vehicle towed to a Ford Dealer to diagnose the issue and it was a the CDF clutch drum that had failed. This is a discovered weak part of the transmission in 2017-2022 trucks and the only option is to replace the transmission.
Power train, Aug 3, 2026
Complete transmission failure at 76,000 miles.
Power train, Aug 2, 2026
Transmission is shifting roughly and unexpectedly. Goes from high gear into low gear without warning for example going 45-50 in 10th gear and downshifts suddenly to 1st or 2nd gear causing vehicle to rapidly slow down throwing driver and passengers forward and possible being rear ended scenario.
Power train, Aug 1, 2026
I am reporting a safety-related transmission problem I experienced with my 2019 Ford F-150 equipped with the 10R80 automatic transmission. While driving normally, the transmission suddenly shifted violently from gears 3 to 5 and 1 to 3. This occurred while accelerating on the highway and from a stop light, creating a potentially dangerous situation because the truck did not respond as expected when I needed predictable acceleration or propulsion. I believe this incident may be related to the known 10R80 CDF clutch-cylinder/sleeve problem. Ford technical information identifies axial movement of the CDF sleeve that can cause hydraulic-circui

Transmission was shifting erratically and harsh. I had to replace at my cost
Power train, Jul 31, 2026
This problem started a few months ago. In the first few minutes of driving my truck each morning i have been experiencing problems with my truck shifting. Sometimes there is a lag. Sometimes there is unexpected shift. Sometimes it jumps from 10th gear to 1st. It can be jarring at times. Then by the time i get to where i am going the problems seem to go away. Lately, the problems show up slightly, later in the day. And most recently, the little wrench light came on, indicating a "Powertrain malfunction / Reduced power" With the description "The transmission control module has detected a concern when trying to shift to 7th gear. A failsafe logic disable 7th gear for the remainder of this key cycle." I had my truck towed to a Ford dealership, and they claim i need a whole new transmission! When i researched this it seems that this is a very common problem with the Ford F150 and the 10R80 transmission. It was recommended that i file a complaint with the NHTSA

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated unexpectedly after coming to a complete stop and making a right turn. There was no warning light illuminated. During the failure, the transmission skipped second gear and lunged forward after shifting into third gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians confirmed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The vehicle was repaired out-of-pocket. The failure mileage was 85,000.
Power train, Jul 21, 2026
While driving on the highway at approximately 65mph the trucks display showed that the transmission shifted from 9th gear down to 1st gear, the truck however did not stall or shift hard. Shortly after the Ford pass sent a message stating there is a power train malfunction / reduced power. And that the transmission control module has detected a concern when trying to shift 4th gear. And a failsafe logic disabled 4th gear for the remainder of the key cycle.
Power train, Engine, Lane departure, Jul 3, 2026
While driving on a highway, my 2019 Ford F-150 suddenly lost power during acceleration due to a transmission malfunction. The truck hesitated and failed to respond to the accelerator, nearly causing a rear-end collision. The transmission required a major overhaul at approximately 53,000 miles, yet the same symptoms returned shortly after the repair. Around 56,000 miles, the engine also developed a cam phaser/timing chain failure requiring extensive repairs. These major drivetrain failures at such low mileage raise serious safety concerns and indicate a potential manufacturing defect. I believe this vehicle poses an unreasonable safety risk to drivers and the public.

Transmission does not shift or grab gears and would make me be stuck in the middle of the road.
Power train, Electrical system, Back over prevention, Jun 4, 2025
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the transmission was downshifting, there was a loud bang coming from the transmission, with a popping sound coming from the rear suspension. The contact stated that the sound was most apparent when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact stated that the message that the driver’s side rear door was open, causing the light to remain illuminated even though the door was securely closed. During the failure, the lights inside and outside the vehicle remained illuminated, causing the battery to become drained. The contact stated that the infotainment center failed and needed to be rebooted whenever the vehicle was turned off and restarted. The failure disabled the back over prevention camera intermittently. The contact stated that occasionally back over prevention camera became activated while driving and remained operational until the system failed. The contact stated that the back over prevention failure and infotainment system failure started after Ford had completed a routine software update. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 86,500.
