Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Focus vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall number 18V735. The Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, causing the engine to stall unexpectedly while driving.
An engine that stalls while driving increases the risk of a crash.
Dealers will update the powertrain control module (PCM) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 29, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S40. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov on July 6,2026.

Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Fuel system, gasoline, storageJul 5, 2019
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012 and 2017 Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI gasoline engines and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines, previously recalled under 18V-735. The affected vehicles did not have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) updated as intended. Therefore, the Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system.
The excessive vacuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S22.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Ford Focus vehicles with a 2.0L GDI or 2.0L GTDI engine. The Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in fuel vapor management system.
The excessive vaccuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began August 19, 2019. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchSep 6, 2016
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 Ford Focus, 2013-2015 Ford Escape and Ford C-MAX, 2015 Lincoln MKC and Ford Mustang, and 2014-2016 Ford Transit Connect vehicles. A component within the door latches may break, preventing the doors from latching and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the door latches with an improved part, free of charge. The recall began on January 27, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S30.

Ford is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Focus BEV vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured September 15, 2011, through May 6, 2013; and model year 2013 Focus ST vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured February 16, 2012, through May 7, 2013. Due to a wiring incompatability, the front side marker lamps may not function. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Without the proper illumination of the side maker lamps, the vehicle may be less visible in night time conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will modify the headlamp assembly wiring, free of charge. The recall began on August 16, 2013. Owners may contact the Ford customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's recall number is 13C04.

EquipmentOct 2, 2012
This recall involves aftermarket parts sold by Yakima Products, Inc. for use on model year 2012 and 2013 Ford Focus vehicles. This recall is being conducted by Yakima, not by Ford. Certain combined Q-Tower and Q128 Clip rooftop rack systems, part numbers 8000124 and 8000728, do not fully contact the door frame.
Without proper contact of the rooftop rack clip to the door frame, there is insufficient clamping pressure and friction. The system may slide off the vehicle when loaded with accessories, possibly becoming a road hazard to other vehicles or causing injury to pedestrians.
Yakima will notify owners, and Yakima or a Yakima dealer will refund the purchase of the Q-Tower and Q-128 Clip system. There is no replacement system available for the 2012-2013 model year Ford Focus. The safety recall began on October 15, 2012. Only vehicles equipped with the vehicle rack system are affected. This recall is being conducted by Yakima, not Ford. Owners may contact Yakima at 1-888-925-4621.

FORD IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2012 FOCUS VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM AUGUST 1, 2010, THROUGH OCTOBER 18, 2011. A SEAL IN THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR TO THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER MOTOR MAY BE MISSING.
WATER OR OTHER CONTAMINANTS MAY ACCUMULATE IN THE CONNECTOR, RESULTING IN AN INTERMITTENT OR INOPERATIVE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER MOTOR, REDUCING VISIBILITY AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
FORD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND AS NECESSARY, CLEAN AND PROPERLY SEAL THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER MOTOR CONNECTOR. ANY INOPERATIVE WIPER MOTORS WILL BE REPLACED. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 21, 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER AT 1-866-436-7332.

IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR, MY DRIVER'S DOOR LATCH BROKE UNEXPECTEDLY. I WENT INTO A RESTAURANT AND THE DOOR CLOSED FINE. HOWEVER, WHEN I RETURNED TO OPEN MY DOOR, IT WOULD NOT LOCK. AS A RESULT, I HAD TO TAKE MY CAR TO A FORD SERVICE CENTER TO FIX IT. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY AND THERE WAS NO RECALL. I HAD TO PAY OVER 600 DOLLARS TO GET IT FIXED. LAST WEEK, I WENT TO THE GROCERY STORE AND THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LATCH BROKE. I TALKED TO FORD CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAD TO TAKE IT IN FOR REPAIRS. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME A DOOR LATCH BROKE ON MY CAR IN LESS THAN THREE MONTHS! THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE DOORS WERE WORKING FINE UNTIL THE DOOR LATCHES SUDDENLY BROKE. BOTH TIMES, MY CAR WAS PARKED WHEN I EXPERIENCED THE DOOR LATCH FAILURES. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM LIKE THIS WITH OLDER CARS AND I AM THE ONLY OWNER OF THIS CAR.

STEERING WHEELS LOCKS UP AND I GET A MESSAGE STATING "STEERING ASSIST FAULT". THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN 2 WEEKS THAT THE VEHICLE HAS DONE THIS WHEN I STARTED THE CAR. THE ONLY WAY I HAVE FOUND TO CLEAR IT IS TO STOP THE CAR AND RESTART.

THE CAR DOOR IN THE BACK SEAT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF MY 2012 FORD FOCUS SE, FLUNG OPEN AS I WAS MAKING A SHARP TURN WHILE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE INTO MY SON'S APARTMENT COMPLEX. LUCKILY MY TWO CHILDREN WHO WERE SEATED IN THE BACK SEATS WERE WEARING THEIR SEATBELTS, OR THIS COULD'VE BEEN MUCH WORSE. THE DOOR LATCH NO LONGER WANTS TO LATCH ON. THE DOOR DOES NOT CLOSE. THE DOOR AJAR SENSOR KEEPS SHOWING AND AN ANNOYING BEEPING SOUND KEEPS GOING OFF TO LET ME KNOW THAT THE BACK DRIVERS SEAT DOOR IS AJAR. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT, THEREFORE LAW ENFORCEMENT WAS NOT CONTACTED OR NEEDED. WE SAFELY PULLED OVER AND ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE DOOR. AGAIN, THE DOOR WILL NOT STAY CLOSED. THE CAR IS ATTEMPTING TO LOCK THE DOOR BUT CANNOT. YOU CAN HEAR IT. ALSO THE DOOR HANDLES APPEAR TO STILL BE IN WORKING CONDITION. IT SEEMS THAT IT'S THE LATCH THAT DOES NOT CLOSE AROUND THE METAL BAR WHEN CLOSED. THERE IS NOT A CURRENT RECALL ON THE 2012 FORD FOCUS SE, BUT FROM STORIES ON THE INTERNET, I'M NOT THE FIRST TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN TO THIS YEAR AND MODEL. THIS IS NOT SAFE AND NEEDS TO BE THOROUGHLY INVESTIGATED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THERE ARE TWO OR THREE OTHER FORD CARS ON RECALL FOR THE FAULTY LATCHES. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT THIS MODEL NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT AS WELL. THANK YOU. *TR

DRIVER DOOR WILL NOT LATCH OR LOCK IN ORDER TO STAY CLOSED WHILE DRIVING NOR WHILE PARKED. THE AUTOMATIC LOCKING SYSTEM THAT ENGAGES AFTER BEGINNING TO DRIVE DOES NOT LATCH OR LOCK THE DRIVER'S DOOR, RESULTING IN A PANEL WARNING THAT THE DOOR IS AJAR.
Structure, Jun 20, 2016
I ENTERED THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WHILE IT WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY, WHEN I WENT TO CLOSE THE DOOR THE DOOR LATCH DID NOT ENGAGE AND THE DOOR JUST BOUNCED BACK OPEN. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL FOR DEALER WHO SUGGESTED THAT I TETHER THE DOOR DOWN SO THAT I COULD DRIVE IT TO THEIR LOCATION. ONCE I ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY PROCEEDED TO TELL ME MY CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT YES THERE IS A RECALL ON SOME DOOR LATCHES MY CAR DID NOT QUALIFY. THEY THEN PROCEEDED TO WRITE UP AN ESTIMATE FOR THE WORK FOR A BILL TOTALING MORE THAT $450.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SHUT THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT AND REAR DOORS, BOTH DOORS FAILED TO CLOSE AND LOCK IN PLACE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR LATCHES FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.

FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR SUDDENLY FAILED TO STAY CLOSED. WE HAVE TO USE BUNGEE CORDS TO KEEP THE DOOR SHUT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. ALSO, WHEN PARKED THE LIGHTS STAY ON DRAINING THE BATTERY. WE HAD THIS PROBLEM LAST YEAR WITH A DIFFERENT DOOR ON THE SAME CAR AND HAD TO REPLACE THE LATCH. THIS IS CLEARLY A SYSTEMATIC PROBLEM AND FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS. AS IT STANDS RIGHT NOW I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY FORD FOCUS. THIS IS ALSO GETTING VERY EXPENSIVE FOR US FIX.

455000 MILES - DRIVER SIDE DOOR LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES FAILED TO SECURE/LATCH THE DOOR. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE BACKING OUT FROM PARKING SPACE, AND PRESENTED DANGEROUS CONDITIONS AS THE DOOR SWUNG OPEN IN PARKING LOT TRAFFIC. THE LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES WILL REQUIRE REPAIR AS THE DOOR CANNOT BE SECURED. THIS IS A SECOND OCCURRENCE OF FAILED DOOR LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES FOR THE VEHICLE. FIRST OCCURRENCE REPORTED ON 03/02/2016 (NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10839377) INVOLVED REAR DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER DOOR (CURRENTLY THE DOOR IS FASTENED BY RATCHET STRAPS). IT IS MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE REMAINING PASSENGER SIDE DOORS LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES FAIL.

SEPTEMBER 28 2015 THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR WOULD NOT STAY CLOSED. I PAID $335 FOR THE REAR DOOR LATCH TO BE REPLACED. TODAY, JUNE 19, 2016, MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT STAY CLOSED. I COMMUTE TO WORK AND DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING WITH THIS DEFECT.

DURING NORMAL OPERATION OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WHILE THE CAR WAS STATIONARY, A DEFECT IN THE ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURE OF THE DOOR LATCH ASSEMBLY OCCURRED. THE DOOR WILL NO LONGER STAY CLOSED ON ITS OWN. THIS PRESENTED AN IMMEDIATE DANGER UPON LEAVING THE PARKING SPACE, AS THE DOOR SWUNG OPEN WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE SAFELY DRIVEN IN THIS CONDITION.
Other or unspecified, Jun 17, 2016
REAR DOOR LATCH FAILED. THE DOOR WOULD NOT STAY CLOSED. I HAD PREVIOUSLY HAD THE LATCH ON THE FRONT DOOR REPLACED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. I REALIZED THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE ON THE 2012 FORD FOCUS WHEN I CHATTED WITH ANOTHER OWNER OF A 2012 FORD FOCUS WHO WAS IS FOR THE THIRD TIME FOR A DOOR LATCH REPLACEMENT. LUCKILY, I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND MY COST WAS $100. THE COST WITHOUT A WARRANTY WOULD BE ALMOST $275. THIS SHOULD NOT COST THE OWNERS OF THESE CARS ANYTHING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THESE LATCHES FAIL WITHOUT WARNING. BOTH TIMES THAT THE LATCHES FAILED, THEY WORKED FINE THE PREVIOUS DAY

FOR THREE YEARS FROM 2013 TO CURRENT I REPORTED MY CAR HAVING INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL ISSUES WHERE MY POWER STEERING WOULD JUST FAIL AND MY SPEEDOMETER WOULD CEASE TO FUNCTION THIS COULD HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING OR STATIONARY.... I REPORTED THIS TO FORD AND OVER THE COURSE OF THREE YEARS HAD THE ISSUE INSPECTED BUT THEY COULD NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE.. NOW THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY BUT SAY IT IS DUE TO FAULTY CENSORS.

THIS COMPLAINT IS FOR A SECOND DOOR LATCH MALFUNCTION. THE FIRST COMPLAINT WAS ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR (ODI# 10818622 ). THIS ONE IS FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE BACK DOOR OF THE SAME CAR. IT MALFUNCTIONED WHILE OUR DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND IT FLEW OPEN. IF THERE HAD BEEN A CHILD IN THE BACK SEAT THAT HAD TAKEN OF THE SEAT BELT (WE KNOW HOW CHILDREN CAN BE) THAT CHILD WOULD HAVE FALLEN OUT.

EVER SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW, THE VEHICLE HAS SHUDDERED AND HAD TRANSMISSION ISSUES. FOR DIS REFUSING TO FIX THE ISSUE. I WAS LEFT STRANDED ON THE ROAD BECAUSE THE TCM HAD TO BE REPLACED. PCM AND TCM HAVE BEEN REPROGRAMMED MULTIPLE TIMES AND THE CLUTCH HAS BEEN REPLACED IN IT 3 OR 4 TIMES AS WELL. FORD KEEPS SAYING THAT THIS IS NORMAL AND HOW IT SHOULD OPERATE THE SHUDDER AND JERKIGN HAPPENS MOSTLY WHEN TAKING OFF FROMA STOP LIKE AT A STOP LIGHT

DOOR LATCHE ON DRIVER DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH. WHILE TRAVELING DOWN HIGHWAY 178 THE DRIVERS DOOR CAME OPEN AND WOULD NOT LATCH CLOSED. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE DOOR LATCHES. I THEN LOOKED ON SAFE CAR AND FOUND THAT THERE HAS BEEN OTHER INCIDENTS OF THE SAME NATURE. I TOOK MY 2012 FORD FOCUS TO THE DEALER TO BE EVALUATED AND THEY SAID THE DOOR LATCH WAS BAD. I F THERE HAS BEEN SO MANY INCIDENTS WHY ISN'T A RECALL BEEN ISSUED.

FORD FOCUS SE 2012 [XXX] PURCHASED 08/25/2011. SINCE NEW, THE VEHICLE SHUDDER AND SHAKE BECAUSE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. IT WAS AGAIN ON THE DEALER IN MAY 2016 FOR 2 WEEKS, AFTER HAVING TO WAIT 20 DAYS FOR THE PARTS TO ARRIVE, AT PINES FORD IN PEMBROKE PINES, FL. DURING THIS REPAIR ALSO, ONE OF THE ENGINE MOUNTS WAS FOUND BROKE AND THE DEALER AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT AND THE LABOR, $ 250 DOLLARS TOTAL. REALLY? FOR AN ENGINE MOUNT? THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE ADVISOR REFERRED TO THE ENGINE MOUNT AS A "TEAR AND WEAR" PART. REALLY? THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE I HAVE TO REPLACE AN ENGINE MOUNT ON A VEHICLE 65K MILES OLD. WHAT ABOUT ALL THE SHUDDERING AND SHAKING TO THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION COMPONENT? SINCE NEW, THE CAR HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER IN MORE THAN 8 OCCASIONS. IN TWO OF THIS OCCASIONS, IT TOOK AT LEAST 2 WEEKS TO GET THE CAR BACK. THE TCM HAS BEEN REPLACED AND REPROGRAMMED SEVERAL TIMES, THE CLUTCH AND OR TRANSMISSION IN MORE THAN 2 OCCASIONS. THE DEALER SERVICE ADVISOR HAS ALWAYS TRIED TO CONVINCE US THAT THE SHUDDERING AND SHAKING IS "NORMAL" AS HE CALLED. IN TWO OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE STALL AND REFUSE TO COME BACK TO LIFE UNTIL 30 MINUTES PASSED. DURING LAST MONTH REPAIR ALSO A CASE WAS OPEN WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY ON 4/28/2016 [XXX] WAS CLOSED BY [XXX] WITHOUT OUR CONSENT. CASE IS STILL OPEN AND VALID. CAR IS A LEMON, PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
