Recalls and investigations

  1. Fuel system, gasoline, storage, evaporative emissions, canisterJun 9, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Focus vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall number 18V735. The Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, causing the engine to stall unexpectedly while driving.

An engine that stalls while driving increases the risk of a crash.

Dealers will update the powertrain control module (PCM) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 29, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S40. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov on July 6,2026.

  2. Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 16, 2026.

  3. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

  4. Fuel system, gasoline, storageJul 5, 2019

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012 and 2017 Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI gasoline engines and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines, previously recalled under 18V-735. The affected vehicles did not have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) updated as intended. Therefore, the Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system.

The excessive vacuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S22.

  5. Fuel system, gasoline, storageOct 22, 2018

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Ford Focus vehicles with a 2.0L GDI or 2.0L GTDI engine. The Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in fuel vapor management system.

The excessive vaccuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began August 19, 2019. Owners may contact Ford Customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S32. 6. Latches/locks/linkages, hatchback/liftgate, lockSep 28, 2016

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2017 Ford Focus hatchback vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, to August 26, 2016 and equipped with a manual transmission. The hatchback of the affected vehicles may be unlatched with a single press of the interior latch release button. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."

With only a single press needed, the driver may accidently unlatch the hatchback, increasing the risk of injury to any unsecured passengers in the back.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Body Control Module with updated software, free of charge. The recall began February 10, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16C13.

A component within the door latches may break, preventing the doors from latching and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the door latches with an improved part, free of charge. The recall began on January 27, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S30.

  8. Electrical system, wiringDec 2, 2015

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured January 11, 2012, to April 1, 2013, and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles manufactured May 03, 2012, to October 14, 2013. Insufficient compression in the engine wiring harness splices to the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor may provide incorrect signals to the powertrain control module (PCM).

The incorrect signals could cause the vehicle to hesitate or the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the current crimped splices with new splices, free of charge. The recall began on January 7, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S17-S1.

  10. Exterior lightingAug 1, 2013

Ford is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Focus BEV vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured September 15, 2011, through May 6, 2013; and model year 2013 Focus ST vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured February 16, 2012, through May 7, 2013. Due to a wiring incompatability, the front side marker lamps may not function. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Without the proper illumination of the side maker lamps, the vehicle may be less visible in night time conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will modify the headlamp assembly wiring, free of charge. The recall began on August 16, 2013. Owners may contact the Ford customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's recall number is 13C04.

  11. Latches/locks/linkagesMar 7, 2013

Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Focus and C-Max vehicles built from November 16, 2012, through November 21, 2012; and model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from November 14, 2012, through November 21, 2012. The left rear door child lock was built incorrectly. As a result, the child lock may not engage when the operator uses normal force to activate the child lock.

The operator may incorrectly believe the child lock is engaged. However, the door may be opened from the inside, increasing the risk of injury to an unrestrained child.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the affected rear door latches, and replace them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on March 27, 2013. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

  12. EquipmentOct 2, 2012

This recall involves aftermarket parts sold by Yakima Products, Inc. for use on model year 2012 and 2013 Ford Focus vehicles. This recall is being conducted by Yakima, not by Ford. Certain combined Q-Tower and Q128 Clip rooftop rack systems, part numbers 8000124 and 8000728, do not fully contact the door frame.

Without proper contact of the rooftop rack clip to the door frame, there is insufficient clamping pressure and friction. The system may slide off the vehicle when loaded with accessories, possibly becoming a road hazard to other vehicles or causing injury to pedestrians.

Yakima will notify owners, and Yakima or a Yakima dealer will refund the purchase of the Q-Tower and Q-128 Clip system. There is no replacement system available for the 2012-2013 model year Ford Focus. The safety recall began on October 15, 2012. Only vehicles equipped with the vehicle rack system are affected. This recall is being conducted by Yakima, not Ford. Owners may contact Yakima at 1-888-925-4621.

  9. Fuel system, Gasoline, Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 1, 2016

ABOUT ONE YEAR AFTER WE BOUGHT THIS CAR, I RAN OUT OF GAS ON A CITY STREET, ABOUT ONE MILE FROM A GAS STATION AND THE DASH STILL SHOWED 8 MILES UNTIL EMPTY. I WAS STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD TO CALL FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. AFTER THAT I WAS CAREFUL TO TRY NOT TO LET IT GET THAT LOW AGAIN. RECENTLY, HOWEVER, DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, I WAS GETTING LOW ON GAS AND ABOUT TO GET OFF AT THE NEXT EXIT IN 2 MILES WHEN I SUDDENLY RAN OUT OF GAS. THIS TIME, THE DASH SHOWED 17 MILES UNTIL EMPTY. I WAS STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE WITH LOTS OF TRAFFIC, CONSTRUCTION, AND 90 DEGREE WHETHER. I WAITED THERE IN THE HEAT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND 20 MINUTES FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR ITS 3RD RECALL (A SOFTWARE ISSUE) I ASKED IF THE FUEL ISSUE WAS RELATED TO THE SOFTWARE, AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE FUEL PURGE WAS A "COMMON" PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE BUT NOT CONSIDERED A RECALL. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO GET IT REPAIRED OR IT WOULD CONTINUE TO GET WORSE. I FEEL LIKE BEING STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I ALSO FEEL LIKE I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS SINCE IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE WAY THE FUEL SYSTEM WAS BUILT. *TR

  10. Power train, Electrical system, Nov 30, 2016

VEHICLE DOES NOT START WITH WARNING PARKING AID FAULT. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, IT STARTS BUT THEN STOPS. VEHICLE SHUDDERS FROM START, GEARS MAKE NOISES AND DOWN SHIFTS UNEXPECTEDLY.

  11. Electrical system, Structure, Other or unspecified, Nov 29, 2016

I HAVE HAD MY PRE-OWNED VEHICLE FOR 1 1/2 YEARS AND HAVE HAD CONTINUOUS ISSUES WITH MY TRUNK POPPING OPEN RANDOMLY. IT OPENS ANYWHERE AND AT RANDOM TIMES. I'VE HAD IT OPEN WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, WHICH IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD, POTENTIALLY HAVING THINGS FROM TRUNK FLY OUT AND HIT ANOTHER MOTORIST. IT HAS BEEN LOOKED AT TWICE BY BAXTER FORD IN OMAHA, NE. THEY CAN NEVER SEEM TO FIND THE ISSUE OR HAVE IT "DUPLICATE" ON THEIR TIME. THIS DEFINITELY SOUNDS LIKE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. *TR

  12. Structure, Nov 28, 2016

THIS RECALL BEGAN IN AUGUST AND STILL HAS NOT BEE REMEDIED. WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO BUY A NEW CAR AND WERE TOLD THE CAR IS UNSALABLE UNTIL THIS RECALL IS SATISFIED. WE NO LONGER HAVE A WARRANTY ON THE CAR AND EVERY DAY WE DRIVE IT WILL CAUSE A LOSS TO THE CURRENT VALUE AND THE RISK OF REPAIRS. THERE IS NO SATISFACTORY TIMEFRAME FOR THIS RECALL TO BE REMEDIED. EVEN FORD WILL NOT TAKE THE CAR BACK ON TRADE.

  13. Steering, Engine, Nov 28, 2016

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE WAS FAILING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 74,000.

  14. Power train, Nov 22, 2016

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, USUALLY BETWEEN 20-30 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD UNDER THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED SEALS AND THE SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED, BUT THE ISSUE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED TWICE AND THERE WERE TWO SOFTWARE UPDATES. THE FAILURES CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.

  15. Power train, Nov 15, 2016

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION GEARS WERE EXTREMELY SLOW TO CHANGE OVER AND SUDDENLY THE GEAR ENGAGED AND CAUSED A JERKING MOTION. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS RELEASED AND FRACTURED. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED AT LEAST THREE DEALERS AND ONE OF THEM INDICATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE PART WAS ON A NATIONAL BACK ORDER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.

  16. Air bags, Seat belts, Nov 14, 2016, crash

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THERE WAS ANOTHER VEHICLE APPROACHING THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE HEAD ON. HOWEVER, THE CONTACT SWERVED OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID CRASHING INTO THE OTHER VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A POLL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELT DID NOT REMAIN SECURED. THE CONTACT HIT HER HEAD ON THE WINDSHIELD AND FRACTURED HER WRIST. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

  17. Steering, Nov 14, 2016

I'M ANOTHER VICTIM OF THE EPAS POWER STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY FAILING. IT FAILED ON SEPTEMBER 26TH, WHILE UNDER WARRANTY, BUT UNFORTUNATELY I DIDN'T BRING IT INTO A DEALERSHIP ON SEPTEMBER 30TH. TWO DAYS AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRATION. DESPITE THE WELL-KNOWN OCCURRENCES OF THE EPAS / GEAR ASSEMBLY FAILURES, THE WARRANTY EXPIRATION DATE, ETC., FORD STILL CHOSE TO REFUSE IT UNDER WARRANTY CARE. INSTEAD, FORD FORCED ME TO PAY OUT OF POCKET WITH NO ASSISTANCE. THE WORSE PART IS IT NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE IT CHOSE TO FAIL IN TRAFFIC WHILE UNDER OPERATION AT LOW SPEEDS.

  18. Power train, Nov 13, 2016

I PURCHASED MY USED 2013 FORD FOCUS ON AUGUST 4TH 2015. SINCE THEN IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOUR TIMES TO ADDRESS THE DUAL CLUTCH SYSTEM BEING FAULTY. THE CAR WILL SHUTTER BETWEEN GEARS, STRUGGLE TO ACCELERATE, IT WILL ROLL BACKWARDS/FORWARDS AT STOPS WHILE THE CAR IS STILL IN DRIVE AND WHEN I AM GOING TO PARK. IT ALSO WILL REV UP RANDOMLY AND ALMOST LURCH FORWARD WHEN ITS TRYING TO SHIFT. I BRING THE CAR IN AND THEY "FIX" IT, WHEN I PICK IT UP FROM THE SHOP IT RUNS SMOOTHLY FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE IT STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN.

  19. Power train, Nov 7, 2016

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. WHILE STOPPING AT A YIELD SIGN, THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT HAD TO MANEUVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. WHEN THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, IT ACCELERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CLUTCH PLATE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED THREE TIMES FOR THE SAME FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

  20. Power train, Nov 7, 2016

I PURCHASED A 2013 FORD FOCUS 2013 SE HATCHBACK. I'VE HAD IT FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS. DURING THE LAST FEW MONTHS THE TRANSMISSION HAS STARTED TO STUTTER. WHEN STARTING AT AN INTERSECTION FROM A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN THE CAR STRUGGLES TO ACCELERATE. AT SLOW SPEED IN A PARKING LOT FOR EXAMPLE IT DOESN'T OPERATE WELL WITHER. IT BEHAVES LIKE SOMEONE IS LEARNING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION FOR THE FIRST TIME. MY CAR IS AN AUTOMATIC. LATELY THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS GOTTEN WORSE. I HAVE HAD TO TAKE IT IN TO THE DEALER.

  21. Other or unspecified, Nov 5, 2016

I PURCHASED A 2013 FORD FOCUS SE FOR MY DAUGHTER BACK IN 2012, AND AFTER A FEW MONTHS OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE, SHE STARTED EXPERIENCING SOME ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH. WHENEVER SHE STOPS AT A STOP LIGHT AND TRIES TO ACCELERATE AT TAKE OFF, SHE FEELS JERKING, AND HESITATION WHEN DRIVING. WE TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THERE HAD BEEN ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLES DUAL CLUTCH THAT WAS REDESIGNED ON THE CAR. THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED AND DEEMED OKAY TO DRIVE PER DEALER. WE PICKED UP HER VEHICLE AND EVERYTHING APPEARED TO BE RUNNING SMOOTHLY, UNTIL A FEW MONTHS LATER SHE STARTED HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. THIS TIME THE CAR STARTED TO JERK MORE OFTEN AND WAS GETTING WORSE. WE TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, CAR WAS PLACED ON COMPUTER AND WE WERE INFORMED BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT NO ISSUES WERE FOUND. WE WERE THEN SENT ON OUR WAY AND WERE TOLD THAT THIS WOULD BE AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE DUE TO THE CHANGE IN THE NEW CLUTCH DESIGN. MY DAUGHTER HAS HAD HER VEHICLE FOR A LITTLE OVER 2 YEARS NOW, AND WE ARE STILL GOING THROUGH THIS PROBLEM. THE ENGINE LIGHT IS NOW COMING ON WHILE SHE IS DRIVING. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND COULD CAUSE SOMEONE TO GET SERIOUSLY HURT WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO GET THESE VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD, SINCE THE PROBLEM IS NOT ABLE TO BE CORRECTED AT OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIPS. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING AND I FEEL DECEIVED THAT THIS INFORMATION WAS NOT PROVIDED AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. I MYSELF DRIVE A FORD AND NEVER HAVE EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE, BUT I THINK AFTER MY EXPERIENCE WITH HER CAR, I WONT BE RETURNING TO A FORD DEALERSHIP ANYTIME SOON!!!

  22. Power train, Vehicle speed control, Engine, Nov 4, 2016

I WAS LITERALLY LEAVING THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR "SHUT DOWN ISSSUES AND SHUDDERING ISSUES" WHEN THEY SUPPOSEDLY COULDN'T "VERIFY THE PROBLEM" I WAS DRIVING HOME ON A FIVE LANE HIGHWAY AND MY CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION GOING 70MPH AND WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY UNTIL A TOW TRUCK CAME AND TOWED MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT IS CURRENTLY AT RIGHT NOW. THIS IS MY 5TH ATTEMPT FOR THEM TO FIX IT. *TR

  23. Power train, Nov 4, 2016

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO NOT OPERATE IN REVERSE OCCASIONALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAULTY. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURES CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,700.

  24. Power train, Vehicle speed control, Nov 2, 2016

THE VEHICLE STUTTERS, JERKS, AND STALLS IN LOW GEARS. WHEN WE PRESS THE GAS FROM A STATIONARY POSITION THE CAR FAILS TO MOVE FORWARD ON MANY OCCASIONS. IF IT DOES MOVE FORWARD THEN THE GEARS MAKE A GRINDING SOUND. IT POSES A RISK TO US WHEN WE HAVE TO MOVE ACROSS ONCOMING TRAFFIC, ESPECIALLY ON LEFT HAND TURNS AT STOPLIGHTS WHEN WE HAVE A YIELD SIGN. THE CAR HAS STALLED OUT ON A FEW OCCASIONS LEAVING US VULNERABLE TO CARS TRAVELING AT HIGH VELOCITIES TOWARDS US. THIS IS AN UNSAFE CAR AND WE PLAN TO HOLD FORD ACCOUNTABLE FOR HUMAN AND PROPERTY DAMAGE SHOULD IT OCCUR DUE TO THIS DEFECT. *TR

  25. Fuel system, Gasoline, Power train, Nov 2, 2016

I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR AND HAVE ONLY OWNED IT SINCE JULY OF 2014. THE COMPUTER MODULE IN MY TRANSMISSION HAS ALREADY HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO SHUDDERING, GEARS SHIFTING INCORRECTLY, AND EVENTUALLY DYING WHILE DRIVING. NOW MY CAR IS IN THE SHOP, AGAIN. THIS TIME FOR CODE P0456, WHICH RELATES TO THE PURGE VALVE CANISTER AND EVAP SYSTEM. A FEW WEEKS AGO, I NOTICED MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND HAD SOMEONE RUN MY CODES. WHENEVER I PUT GAS IN THE CAR, IT TAKES SEVERAL TRIES BEFORE MY CAR WILL START. I HAVE TO PUMP THE GAS WHILE STARTING THE CAR IN ORDER FOR IT TO ACTUALLY START. AFTER I GET GAS, THE CAR WILL SOMETIMES DIE WHILE I AM DRIVING...WHICH HAS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THIS WILL CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT FOR SOMEONE SOME DAY...MAYBE EVEN A FATAL ACCIDENT. THE FUEL GAUGE ALSO STARTED READING INCORRECTLY AT THE SAME TIME. I WILL HAVE A 1/4 TANK OF GAS, BUT IT WILL REGISTER THAT I HAVE 3/4 FULL AND IS ONLY MOMENTARILY CORRECTED WHEN YOU TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT. I HAVE RESEARCHED MANY BLOGS AND FORUMS AND HAVE DISCOVERED THAT MANY FOCUS OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEMS WITH THESE ISSUES. MY CAR IS IN THE SHOP RIGHT NOW AND I AM WAITING FOR THEM TO CALL WITH THE FINAL DIAGNOSIS. IT ISN'T RIGHT FOR FORD TO KNOW THAT THEY HAVE FAULTY CARS OUT THERE AND NOT PAY TO FIX THE PROBLEMS. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THIS. *TR
