Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Focus vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall number 18V735. The Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, causing the engine to stall unexpectedly while driving.
An engine that stalls while driving increases the risk of a crash.
Dealers will update the powertrain control module (PCM) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 29, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Fuel system, gasoline, storageJul 5, 2019
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012 and 2017 Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI gasoline engines and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines, previously recalled under 18V-735. The affected vehicles did not have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) updated as intended. Therefore, the Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system.
The excessive vacuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S22.

Latches/locks/linkages, hatchback/liftgate, lockSep 28, 2016
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2017 Ford Focus hatchback vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, to August 26, 2016 and equipped with a manual transmission. The hatchback of the affected vehicles may be unlatched with a single press of the interior latch release button. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."
With only a single press needed, the driver may accidently unlatch the hatchback, increasing the risk of injury to any unsecured passengers in the back.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Body Control Module with updated software, free of charge. The recall began February 10, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16C13.

Exterior lightingAug 1, 2013
Ford is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Focus BEV vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured September 15, 2011, through May 6, 2013; and model year 2013 Focus ST vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured February 16, 2012, through May 7, 2013. Due to a wiring incompatability, the front side marker lamps may not function. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Without the proper illumination of the side maker lamps, the vehicle may be less visible in night time conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will modify the headlamp assembly wiring, free of charge. The recall began on August 16, 2013. Owners may contact the Ford customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's recall number is 13C04.

The left rear door child lock was built incorrectly. As a result, the child lock may not engage when the operator uses normal force to activate the child lock.
The operator may incorrectly believe the child lock is engaged. However, the door may be opened from the inside, increasing the risk of injury to an unrestrained child.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the affected rear door latches, and replace them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on March 27, 2013. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

EquipmentOct 2, 2012
This recall involves aftermarket parts sold by Yakima Products, Inc. for use on model year 2012 and 2013 Ford Focus vehicles. This recall is being conducted by Yakima, not by Ford. Certain combined Q-Tower and Q128 Clip rooftop rack systems, part numbers 8000124 and 8000728, do not fully contact the door frame.
Without proper contact of the rooftop rack clip to the door frame, there is insufficient clamping pressure and friction. The system may slide off the vehicle when loaded with accessories, possibly becoming a road hazard to other vehicles or causing injury to pedestrians.
Yakima will notify owners, and Yakima or a Yakima dealer will refund the purchase of the Q-Tower and Q-128 Clip system. There is no replacement system available for the 2012-2013 model year Ford Focus. The safety recall began on October 15, 2012. Only vehicles equipped with the vehicle rack system are affected. This recall is being conducted by Yakima, not Ford. Owners may contact Yakima at 1-888-925-4621.

MY CAR IS INVOLVED IN RECALL 14M01, THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 31100 MILE THE PROBLEM IS A POWER LOSE AND A SEVER VIBRATION WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED IN A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT. THIS ISSUE IS GETTING WORST EVERY DAY AND THE CAR WAS FIXED 4 TIMES FOR TWO DIFFERENT FORD DEALERS IN WHICH THE TCM WAS REPLACED, REPROGRAMMED, CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION OIL, THE GASKET AND CLUTCH, IN THE PAST THE SHUDDER WAS JUST IN LOW VELOCITY AND NOW THE SHUDDER AND POWER OF LOST IS AT ANY VELOCITY OR GEAR CHANGE. I BEEN INVOLVED TWO TIMES IN A SEVER RISK OF CRASH WHEN I WAS DRIVING IN A HIGHWAY @ AROUND 40 MILES SUDDENLY THE CAR IN FRONT STOPPED, I HAD TO CHANGE MY LINE TO NOT CRASH , I CHECK THE SIDE MIRROR, PUSH THE GAS CHANGE MY LINE AND THEN THE CAR DO NOT RESPONSE AND THE CAR BEHIND OF ME HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKE AND ALMOST CRASH ON THE BACK OF MY CAR. MY CAR IS NOW AGAIN WITH A DEALER TO TRY TO FIX THE ISSUE BUT I CAN,T ACCEPT AGAIN A CHANGE OF THE TCM WHEN IT DIDN'T WORK IN THE LAST THREE TIMES. IF WE TAKE IN A CONTINUES TIME FRAME MY CAR WAS MORE THAN 5 MONTHS IN A FORD GARAGE. THE 2ND ISSUE IS AN EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION OF GASOLINE AND HIGH EMISSION OF CO MY CAR IS IN MEXICO CITY,IT'S TESTED EVERY 6 MONTHS TO CHECK THE GASES EMISSION IT DIDN'T PASS THE TEST 4 TIMES IN 7 MONTHS,THE DEALER TRIED TO FIX 4 TIMES TOO W/O ANSWER AS THE DIAGNOSTIC OF THE CAR WAS WRONG IN BOOTH ISSUE CASES (POWER LOSS-VIBRATION AND INEFFICIENT COMBUSTION) I REQUEST BY PHONE GET ALL THE INFORMATION TO THE DEALER IN REGARD OF THE TEST FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC AND CODES FROM THE IDS AND THEY SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THEY CAN'T BECAUSE IS CONFIDENTIAL" AND I SAY I'M THE OWNER AND DRIVER AN I NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING BECAUSE I'M IN A RISK OF CRASH AND THEY CAN'T HIDE ME THIS INFORMATION I JUST CHECK THE TSB 15-0120 PROCEDURE IN YOUR WEB SITE TO KNOW WHAT THEY WILL DO AND THEY REFUSE MY REQUEST. *TR

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFTED WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE UP SHIFTED, RPMS WERE IN 4500-5000. COULD NOT GET TO SPEED LIMIT OF 45 MPH. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AND WE STOPPED TO HAVE IT CHECKED BUT STORE WAS NOT OPEN. PUT CAR IN REVERSE AND CAR WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN GIVEN GAS, ONLY COASTED BACK DUE TO SLOPE. HAD TO DRIVE CAR IN THIS CONDITION ANOTHER 8 MILES ON MAJOR HIGHWAYS BEFORE WE REACHED OUR DESTINATION. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON.

ERRATIC AND UNPREDICTABLE BEHAVIOR FROM TRANSMISSION. SOMETIMES TAKES OFF QUICK AND SOMETIMES SLOW ALL WITH THE SAME INPUT. SHUDDERS AND SEARCHES FOR GEARS ESPECIALLY ON HILLS AND IN TURNS RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL. MOST RECENTLY IT HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A GEAR AND NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE IT UPHILL AND HAD TO BACK DOWN A BUSY STREET TO THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL AND GET A RUNNING START TO MAKE IT UP. FORD HAS REPEATEDLY ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM BUT HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DO SO. THE CAR IS UNPREDICTABLE AND UNSAFE.

WHILE DRIVING I CAME TO A STOP SIGN AND AS I STARTED TO LET OUT THE CLUTCH AND MOVING ROUGHLY 10 MPH MY CAR ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AND POWER STEERING WAS LOST. INTERIOR LIGHTS WERE STILL FUNCTIONAL BUT WHEN I WENT TO START UP THE CAR AGAIN IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. THIS IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION BUT NOTHING WAS WORKING TO GET IT STARTED AGAIN. THIS TO ME IS UNACCEPTABLE FLAW IN THE SYSTEM THAT PUT ME AT RISK OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. BEING STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AND WITHOUT POWER TO THE ENGINE. I AM FORTUNATE ENOUGH THAT I WAS ON SIDE STREETS AND NOT ON A HIGHWAY AS THIS ISSUE COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I TOOK IT TO A GARAGE TO GET IT FIXED AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY MODEL WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. DOING SOME RESEARCH FOUND FORDS RECALL 14S17-S1 FOR THE FORD FOCUS ST SAME YEAR (2013) AS MINE WITH THE EXACT PROBLEM MY CAR HAD. THE GARAGE THAT I AM RECEIVING THE REPAIRS AT TOLD ME THEY FOUND 5 WIRES THAT WERE SEVERED AND WAS PART OF THE PROBLEM. I HAVE YET TO GET THE FULL DIAGNOSTICS FROM THE GARAGE BUT WILL BE ADDING THE DOCUMENT TO THE REPORT ONCE THIS HAS BEEN RESOLVED AND ALL ISSUES ARE MADE AWARE. *TR

CAR HAS STALLED WHILE DRIVING NOW 5 TIMES IN 9 DAYS. THE FIRST TIME DRIVING FROM DENVER TO CASPER, I WASN'T TOO FAR FROM HOME THE STEERING ASSIST SERVICE NEEDED WARNING CAME ON, AND ABOUT 5 MILES LATER I RECEIVED A TRANSMISSION SERVICE REQUIRED WARNING, IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY AN ENGINE SERVICE NOW WARNING AND I COMPLETELY LOST POWER. IN TRYING TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, I HAD ALL MY LIGHTS AND EVERYTHING (INCLUDING WARNINGS), BUT NO CRANK. WHEN A NICE PERSON ASKED TO PUSH ME TO THE SHOULDER AT LEAST OUT OF THE TURN LANE WHILE WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK. THE CAR STARTED RIGHT UP. TOWED THE CAR STILL TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, WHERE I WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS FOUND AND THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. 7 DAYS LATER. AND ABOUT 250 MILES FROM HOME ON THE INTERSTATE. THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THE CAR STARTED ABOUT AN HOUR LATER AFTER THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ARRIVED TO HELP. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME, AND AGAIN THE FOLLOWING DAY THE FOLD DEALERSHIP TOLD ME JUST COMMUNICATION CODES ON THE COMPUTER AND UNSURE WHAT THE ISSUE IS. TODAY, THE CAR DID THE SAME THING 3 MORE TIMES IN THE SPAN OF 2 HOURS. ONCE I WAS STOPPING IN THE RIGHT THROUGH LANE AT A STOP LIGHT WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR WHEN IT STALLED OUT. NOTICED THIS TIME EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE CAR IN PARK THE DASH READ IT WAS IN DRIVE. HAD THE ECM ON THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED ALREADY IN SEPTEMBER. RIGHT NOW IT IS BACK A THE DEALERSHIP AS I DO NOT TRUST THIS CAR WITH ME IN IT, LET ALONE MY 2 LITTLE GIRLS. *TR

AT APPROXIMATELY 2:30 AM THIS MORNING 12/31/16, OUR FORD FOCUS BURST INTO FLAMES WHILE STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT. THANK GOD WE AND OUR 11 MONTH OLD WERE NOT IN THE CAR AT THE TIME. WE HAVE HAD THIS CAR INTO THE SHOP AT LEAST TWICE FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS THEN OUR ENTIRE MULTI INFORMATION SCREEN INCLUDING RADIO QUIT WORKING, THEY REFUSED TO FIX BECAUSE WE WERE OUT OF WARRANTY. WE HAVE BARELY HAD THIS CAR FOR ONE YEAR AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. NOW WE HAVE NO CAR BECAUSE IT IS TOTALED FROM THE FIRE. THE POLICE BASED ON INITIAL INVESTIGATION SAID IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. I HAVE SEEN ANOTHER 2013 FORD FOCUS CATCH FIRE IN AUSTRALIA AND OTHER PLACES. I WOULD LIKE THIS TO BE INVESTIGATED SO THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN TO OTHER PEOPLE.

I HAD ALREADY BEGUN NOTICING THE SHUDDERING AND LURCHES WHEN I WAS NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL. I IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT IT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP IN MAY 2015. DURING THIS FIRST VISIT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED THE CLUTCHES, CLUTCH ASSEMBLY, SEAL, AND FLUIDS AS ALLOWED BY THE RECALL. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO SERVICE IN OCTOBER 2015 AT WHICH TIME I WAS TOLD THIS PROBLEM WOULD NEVER BE FIXED, BUT THE CAR WAS 'REPAIRED PER RECALL 15B22B'. ON THE THIRD VISIT, IN DECEMBER 2015, I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MAN THAT 'FORD CREATED A BAD TRANSMISSION, BUT ALL THEY COULD DO WAS RE-FLASH THE CONTROL MODULE AND THE CAR WOULD NEED TO RE-LEARN MY DRIVING HABITS'. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE INVOICE THE VEHICLE WAS RECHECKED FOR THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDER, PASSED TEST, AND WAS REPROGRAMMED. DURING THE FOURTH VISIT IN MAY 2016, I WAS TOLD THE CAR WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED AND THAT IF I WOULD READ MY OWNER'S MANUAL, I WOULD KNOW THAT. AT THAT TIME I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER BECAUSE OF THE WAY I WAS BEING TREATED. THE SERVICE INVOICE STATES THE 'TRANSMISSION IS PASSING TRANSMISSION OPERATIONAL TESTING CRITERIA'. I HAVE NOW BEEN TOLD THERE IS NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND HAVE COME ACROSS THIS REASONING FOR THE PROBLEM: 'TRANSMISSION FLUID IS LEAKING SOMEPLACE INSIDE AND GETTING ON ONE OR TWO OF THE CLUTCHES, THE OILY CLUTCH IS WHAT'S CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HAVE THE HARSH SHIFT'. I'VE ALSO READ THAT AFTER NINETEEN TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS, A RECENT BULLETIN ALLOWS THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO OPEN THE TRANSMISSION, FIND THE AREA THAT LEAKS TRANSMISSION FLUID ON THE CLUTCH, AND FIX IT. YET I'M STILL BEING TOLD THERE IS NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO. *TR

THE TOP OF THE CAR WAS ALSO DENTED. I HAD A WINDSHIELD GUY COME TO REPAIR IT AND HE SAID THAT THIS IS THE THIRD FORD CAR THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS HAPPEN TO. ALSO I HAVE TWO PREVIOUS RECALLS ON THE CAR ONE FOR THE PASSENGER DOOR LATCH AND THE OTHER FOR THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE. WHILE DRIVING HOME ON A VERY BUSY FREEWAY IN DALLAS THE STEERING DEFAULT WARNING CAME ON. SHORTLY THEREAFTER NUMEROUS OTHER WARNINGS DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD, MY CAR IMMEDIATELY LOST ACCELERATION AND THE ENGINE DEFAULT LIGHT CAME ON CAUSING ME TO COMPLETELY STALL. I ALMOST CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT BEING RUSH HOUR. I WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW BATTERY. OVER $400 LATER, 4 DAYS LATER, I PICKED CAR UP AND 5 HOURS LATER IT DID IT AGAIN. RETURNED CAR TO DEALERSHIP AND THIS TIME THEY REPORTED AN EVAP CODE. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE STEERING AND I KNEW THIS. I CONTACTED A FRIEND WHO IS A MASTER TECHNICIAN WHO WENT INTO THE DEALERSHIP WITH ME AND SUBSEQUENTLY I WAS NOT CHARGED THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE AGAIN. HE DISCUSSED THIS ISSUE AND THEY SAID THE STEERING WAS FINE AND UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD IDENTIFY TO FIX!! (HOWEVER, THE REPAIRS THE DEALER WANTED ME TO AGREE WITH NOW-THE EVAP CODE?- WERE JUST UNDER $2,000 AND DIDN'T ADDRESS THE STEERING CODE WARNING IN ANY WAY. FUEL TANK, LINES & PURGE VALVE? ALL IN NEED OF REPAIR 6 HOURS AFTER CAR WAS FIXED VIA A BRAND NEW BATTERY) I AM AT 103,000 MILES. I DROVE THE CAR THAT NIGHT FINE, THE NEXT DAY AND THEN AGAIN IT REPEATED THE STEERING WARNING AND SHUT DOWN WHILE IN MOTION ON A MAJOR FREEWAY THAT EVENING. FOUR TIMES LATER SINCE 11/29/16 I HAVE HAD THIS STEERING WARNING/SUBSEQUENT RESULTS OF ALMOST CRASHING. THIS IS THEE MOST UNSAFE VEHICLE BEING DRIVEN ON AMERICAN ROADS TODAY. FORD SHOULD RECALL THIS, FIX THIS STEERING ISSUE ONCE AND FOR ALL. I WILL NEVER, EVER BUY OR DRIVE A FORD CAR AGAIN. *TR

THE FUSE THAT CONTROLS THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IN FRONT OF THE STEERING WHEEL WILL NOT STAY IN. IT DOES NOT "BLOW" AND WHEN THIS HAPPENS YOU HAVE NO SPEEDOMETER,HEAT OR GAS GAUGE,TURN SIGNALS, ECT. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A VALID SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN THIS FUSE DOES NOT ALLOW THE CURRENT TO GET TO THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THEN THE MPG READOUT RETURNS TO 30.7 IN LIEU OF WHAT WAS BEING SHOWN AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. ANYTIME YOUR SIGNAL LIGHTS WILL NOT WORK THAT IS A RECALLABLE SITUATION. I BELIEV FOMOCO KNOWS ABOUT THIS. ALSO THE STICKER ON THE DOOR JAMB IN REGARDS TO TIRE PRESSURE READS 30 PSI. RIGHT NOW I HAVE 30 PSI IN MY TIRES AND THE "LOW TIRE" LIGHT IS CONSTANTLY ON.WHEN I CONTACTED MY DEALER HE SAID TO PUT 35 PSI IN EACH TIRE TO ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM.
