Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Fuel system, gasoline, storageJul 5, 2019
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012 and 2017 Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI gasoline engines and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines, previously recalled under 18V-735. The affected vehicles did not have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) updated as intended. Therefore, the Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system.
The excessive vacuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S22.

I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROX 42 MPH WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE FAILED TO YIELD AND TURNED LEFT INTO MY LANE. THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE STRUCK THE PASSENGER SIDE OF OTHER VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE CONTINUED ON AN STRUCK CURB, COMING TO REST ON SIDEWALK. MY VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED IN MY VEHICLE DURING ACCIDENT. *JS

SINCE I HAVE HAD MY 2014 FORD FOCUS IT HAS HAD MAJOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ISSUES. WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS, THE TRANSMISSION WILL OVER REV THE ENGINE, AND THIS SOMETIMES MAKES THE VEHICLE UNSAFE WHEN BRAKING. THE CAR WILL ROLL BACK ON HILLS, AND IT OFTEN MAKES A STRANGE RATTLING NOISE FROM UNDER THE CAR WHILE THE CAR IS TRYING TO CHANGE GEARS, THE SHIFT POINTS ARE NOT WHERE YOU SUSPECT THEM TO BE, AND WILL ALSO BEHAVE ODDLY. I HAVE HAD A PART IN THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AND ON AN ADDITIONAL VISIT, HAVE ALSO HAD THE TRANSMISSION RESET TO FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS. THIS ISSUE IS ONGOING. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE AN INTERNAL PART WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME AT THE DEALERSHIP. THIS ISSUE IS STARTING TO BECOME A SAFETY CONCERN, AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED! *JS

I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE THRU A HOSPITAL PARKING LOT WITH MY FATHER IN THE CAR GOING ABOUT 3-5 MPH. I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND THE ENGINE REVED HIGH BUT CAR DID NOT MOVE. IT WAS AS IF IN NEUTRAL EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE. MADE AN APPT AT THE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMANT, BUT A DAY BEFORE THE APPT I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD ONTO A MAIN ROAD WHEN IT "HESITATED" SO BADLY THAT I WAS ALMOST TBONED. SERVICE SAID IT NEEDED A SOFTWARE UPDATE. THEY SAID THAT THEY RECORDED SLIPPAGE AND THAT WITH THE UPDATE IT SHOULD BE FINE. THE CAR SINCE THEN HAS CONTINUED TO HESITATE AND SHIFT ROUGHLY. IT ROLLS BACK ON HILLS NOT STOPPING UNTIL EITHER MOMENTUM RUNS OUT OR I PRESS THE BRAKE. IT HAS EVEN GONE BACKWARDS ON A FLAT SURFACE WHILE IDELING. I ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE! I HAVE TAKEN IT IN MULTIPLE TIMES-- THEY TELL ME ITS ALL NORMAL THAT I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO DRIVE THE CAR. THAT THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. WHILE AT THE DEALERSHIP EACH TIME SEVERAL OTHER FOCUS OWNERS CAME IN WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. THEY REFUSE TO HELP. THEY WANT TO UP MY PAYMENTS BY 100 BUCKS JUST TO SWAP TO A SAFER CAR. I EVEN SPOKE TO A CORPORATE MANAGER. SHE DID NOTHING EXCEPT SPEAK DOWN TO ME. I FINALLY SENT IN THE OFFICIAL NOTICE ABOUT CLAIMING ITS A LEMON. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. *JS
Power train, Feb 6, 2015
WHEN MOVING FROM A COMPLETE STOP OR ROLLING SLOWLY THE CAR SHAKES, MAKES GRINDING NOISES; VEHICLE HESITATES AND VIBRATES ALSO THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY. I AM WORRIED WHEN I TRY TO MERGE ONTO A HIGHWAY FROM A SIDE ROAD, WHAT IS THIS CAR GOING TO DO. IS IT GOING TO THROW ITS FIT AND HESITATE AND SHAKE OR IS IT GOING TO MOVE SOMEWHAT SMOOTHLY. I NEVER KNOW HOW THE CAR WILL ACT. I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS IS VERY SAFE THAT THIS CAR HESITATES. MOVING FROM A STOP SIGN OR STOPLIGHT OKAY (IRRITATING) BUT TRYING TO MERGE OUT INTO TRAFFIC NOT SO WELL (DEADLY EVEN). FORD SAYS IT?S WITHIN SPECS AND OKAY BOTH AT THEIR DEALERSHIP AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE SAYS IT?S NORMAL TO HAVE SOME HESITATION AND SHAKING TO ME DOESN'T?T SEEM RIGHT. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS IT AN ONGOING PROBLEM FORD WON'T DEAL WITH. I CAN'T EVEN GET RID OF MY CAR AS I TRY TO TRADE IT IN AND I GET LAUGHED AT BY OTHER DEALERS. WHAT CAN BE DONE? *JS

DEALER HASN'T REALLY HAD TO WORK ON THEIR ELECTRIC CARS, HAD TO CONTACT THEIR ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT. NOW THEY SAY THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS OF THE CAR. CAR ALSO DOESN'T GRIP THE ROAD WHEN AT A STOP AND TRYING TO DO A QUICK PULL OUT TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. *TR

I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN THE "STOP SAFELY NOW" (SSN) FLASHED ON THE DASH AND THE CAR STARTED BEEPING. I SLOWED DOWN AND WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD. THE CAR THEN DIED AND WAS INOPERABLE. I GOT OUT TO LOOK AROUND THE CAR AND MAKE SURE THERE WERE NO FLAT TIRES - EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. AFTER A FEW MINUTES - I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AND IT WORKED AS USUAL. THE CAR SEEMED FINE SO I KEPT DRIVING IT WITHOUT INCIDENT UNTIL JANUARY 6TH, 2015 WHEN I WAS DRIVING THE 3 KIDS HOME FROM SCHOOL - THE BATTERY HAD 75% ON IT AND THE SSN FLASHED ON MY DASHBOARD. I SLOWED DOWN COMING TO A LIGHT - AND THE CAR WENT COMPLETELY DEAD - I TRIED TO MOVE IT OUT OF THE LANE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD - BUT THERE WAS NO POWER TO DO THAT. WE WERE STOPPED IN THE LANE OF A BUSY 4 LANE ROAD. THERE WAS NO WAY AROUND OUR CAR WITHOUT CARS MERGING INTO THE OTHER LANE. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE FOR OUR FAMILY. I CALLED AAA TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED. I TRIED EVERY FEW MINUTES TO START THE CAR - BUT IT WOULDN'T WORK. FINALLY AFTER 15 MINUTES - I STARTED THE CAR AND IT ACTED AS IF NOTHING WAS WRONG. I DROVE THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE CODE POA0A: 01-08-PCM SHOWED - THEY RESET IT AND SAID NO NEW CODE CAME UP WHEN THEY TEST DROVE IT. NOW A WEEK LATER - I AM DRIVING THE CAR ON 1/14/15 AND THE SSN COME ON AGAIN. I SLOW DOWN - THE CAR WON'T MOVE OR RESTART. I WAIT 10 MINUTES. THE CAR STARTED AND I DROVE IT BACK TO THE DEALER - THE SAME CODE APPEARED. THEY RESET IT - BUT NOW WANT TO KEEP THE CAR UNTIL THEY CAN GET IT TO STALL ON THEM. THERE IS VERY LITTLE TIME FROM WHEN THE SSN FLASHED AND BEEPS TO PULL OF THE ROAD AND GET OUT OF HARMS WAY. THE LAST 2 TIMES IT HAPPENED I WAS STUCK IN THE LANE OF TRAFFIC AND COULD NOT MOVE THE CAR. *TR

WHEN IDLING OR BEGINNING TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR JUMPS. I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS A CLUTCH OR TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THIS BEGAN THE FIRST WEEKEND I OWNED THE CAR, AUGUST 28, 2014. I WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TIME TO "GET USED" TO ME AS A DRIVER, AND THAT THIS IS A DOUBLE CLUTCH SYSTEM, BY THE FORD DEALER I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM. HE SAID IF IT CONTINUED, THEN BY ALL MEANS, SCHEDULE IT FOR REPAIR. IT CONTINUED TO HAPPEN, JUMP/JERK AT SLOW ACCELERATION. I BROUGHT IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP ON 12/12/14. I AM SCHEDULED TO HAVE THE CAR LOOKED AT ON 1/27/2015, THAT IS THE EARLIEST DATE THEY WOULD GIVE ME AFTER THE FORD DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS A SPECIAL REPAIR AND THEY ONLY TAKE IN SO MANY FORD FOCUS CARS AT A TIME. THEY ALMOST TRIED TO TALK ME OUT OF SCHEDULING THE APPOINTMENT, THE CLERK SAID THERE WERE NO AVAILABLE APPOINTMENTS AND THEY WOULDN'T BE SCHEDULING ANY MORE FOR AT LEAST IN TO FEBRUARY. I WAS PERSISTENT. *TR

TRANSMISSION IS VERY SPORADIC WHEN STARTING FROM A LIGHT. CARS JUMPS FROM FIRST GEAR TO 3RD AND BACK TO SECOND. IT IS HAVING A DIRECT IMPACT ON DRIVING OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND I WAS TOLD FORD ENGINEERING HAS HAD SOME DIFFICULTY IN GETTING THE TRANSMISSION TO REACT EFFECTIVELY WITH THE COMPUTER TO MAKE THE SHIFTING SMOOTH. I NOW HAVE OVER 60,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE - OUT OF WARRANTY AND THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. *TR

ELECTRICAL - LOW GAS WARNING LIGHT AND GAS GAUGE ISN'T CONSISTENT, MILES TO EMPTY WILL DROP 3 TO 5 MILES WITHOUT WARNING WITHIN 1/2 MILE OR SO. RETURNED CAR TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT, THEY DIDN'T TAKE IT OUT FOR A TEST DRIVE. SECOND APPOINTMENT HAS BEEN MADE WITH ANOTHER FORD DEALER. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW. I'M A SINGLE MOM WITH A TIGHT BUDGET SO I WAS LOOKING FOR A VERY DEPENDABLE CAR. I STARTED NOTICING ACCELERATION PROBLEMS AFTER THE FIRST FEW WEEKS OF BUYING THE CAR. WHEN I WOULD GO DRIVE UP THE RAMP ON TO THE FREEWAY, I WASN'T ABLE TO SPEED UP WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. THIS CAUSED EXTREME SAFELY ISSUES AS DRIVERS WOULD HONK AND GET BACKED UP BECAUSE I WASN'T ABLE TO ACCELERATE. I ALSO NOTICED A CLICKING SOUND WHEN WITHIN THE FIRST FEW SECONDS OF ACCELERATING AFTER A STOP. IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING WAS LOOSE OR BROKEN IN THE ENGINE. MY MOM CAME TO VISIT AFTER 2 MONTHS OF HAVING THE CAR. SHE DROVE THE CAR AND SAID THIS DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT, TAKE IT IN. SO I BROUGHT IT TO MY FORD DEALER. I SAID THIS CAR DOES NOT DRIVE SAFE. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING WITH MY 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. THEY SAID THEY WOULD FIX IT AT NO COST. THEY HAD THE CAR FOR 10 DAYS. ONCE I GOT THE CAR BACK, I STILL NOTICED SOME OF THE SAME PROBLEMS, BUT THE MECHANIC TOLD ME "IT WILL TAKE ABOUT 1000 MILES MORE BEFORE THE ENGINE STARTS TO RUN NORMAL." THAT WASN'T VERY SATISFYING TO HEAR. PRESENTLY, I STILL HAVE THE CAR. IT STILL HAS SAFETY ISSUES. I DON'T DRIVE LONG DISTANCES IN IT, BECAUSE I DON'T FEEL SAFE. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY. I'VE SAVED UP HARD EARNED MONEY TO HAVE A DEPENDABLE/SAFE CAR FOR MY DAUGHTER AND I AND I HAVE THE EXACT OPPOSITE. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A FORD AGAIN. *TR

CAR SHUDDERS ON ACCELERATION FROM A STOP AND JERKS AND LUNGES UPON ACCELERATION FROM A SLOWDOWN. TRANSMISSION SLIPS GEARS AND ALSO HITS A DEAD SPOT CAUSING A LACK OF ACCELERATION AROUND GEAR 2-3. RPM'S REV UP WITH NO ACCELERATION AND THEN DROPS QUICKLY WITH A HESITATION BEFORE A REDUCTION OF SPEED. CAR CAN LUNGE WHEN PRESSING ACCELERATOR WHEN YOU DON'T WANT IT TO GO THAT HARD AND THE OPPOSITE HAPPENS ON HIGHWAY MERGES WHEN YOU NEED THE CAR TO GO AND IT WON'T DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION BOTTOMING OUT. PROBLEMS GET WORSE THE LONGER AND FARTHER YOU DRIVE THE CAR. HAD AT THE DEALER 3 TIMES NOW, REPROGRAMMED CLUTCH LAST TIME BUT SAY THE ISSUES FOUND ARE "NORMAL" AND THAT FORD MADE THE TRANSMISSION TO DO JUST AS THE PROBLEMS STATE TO MAKE THE CAR FEEL MORE LIKE A MANUAL THAN AN AUTOMATIC. THIS CAR IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN AND FORD ISN'T DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *JS

AT AROUND 24,000 MILES OUR 2014 FOCUS TRANSMISSION STARTING SHUTTERING DURING TAKE-OFF, MOST NOTABLY BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR. IT IS UNPREDICTABLE AND SOMETIMES DANGEROUSLY HESITANT TO GET GOING. YOU HAD BETTER HOPE THE DAY YOU REALLY NEED THE CAR TO MOVE IT DOES; BUT NOT SURGE UNEXPECTEDLY. THE MOST FRUSTRATING POINT IS FORD SAYS IT'S NORMAL. NORMAL! I HAVE DRIVEN CARS WITH AUTOMATIC AND MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS FOR OVER 35 YEARS NEVER, HAS THIS BEEN NORMAL!!! *TR

JERKS AT START, HEAVY SHUDDERS 10 T0 20, RPM PEAKS SUDDENLY; BUT CAR DOESN'T ACCELERATE (RPM DROPS DOWN QUICKLY AND CAR ACCELERATES) WHILE CRUISING AROUND 40 TO 45 CAR SHUDDERS AS IF CLUTCH IS SLIPPING WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE LIGHTLY; BUT DURING THIS TIME THE CAR DOESN'T ACCELERATE. TRIED MODIFYING DRIVING BY CHANGING EASING ACCELERATOR WHEN IT SEEMS TO SHIFT/ WHEN RPM DROPS FOR A SHIFT - DOESN'T HELP. DEALER HAS REPROGRAMMED AND THEN SUBSEQUENTLY CHANGED THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY AND SEALS. DIDN'T HELP AND CAUSED THE PROBLEMS AT HIGHER SPEEDS. WILL TAKE BACK TO DEALER TO SEE WHAT ELSE CAN BE DONE

TRACTION CONTROL ISSUE.... DURING SNOWSTORM , TRYING TO DRIVE UP A HILL WITH A LEFT HAND TURN , TIRES LOST TRACTION AND CAR ELECTRONICALLY REDUCED RPM SPEED... LOSS OF SPEED ALMOST SENT CAR SIDEWAYS INTO DITCH. HAD TO TURN AROUND AND GET RUN AT HILL 4 MORE TIMES.... EACH TIME WHEN TRACTION WITH TIRES WAS BROKEN ...RPMS WERE DROPPED TO NOTHING LEAVING CAR STOPPED NEAR STALLING IN MIDDLE OF HILL. WILL BE DEALING WITH DEALERSHIP SOON..
