  2. Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 16, 2026.

  3. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

  4. Fuel system, gasoline, storageJul 5, 2019

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012 and 2017 Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI gasoline engines and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines, previously recalled under 18V-735. The affected vehicles did not have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) updated as intended. Therefore, the Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system.

The excessive vacuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S22.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Ford Focus vehicles with a 2.0L GDI or 2.0L GTDI engine. The Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in fuel vapor management system.

The excessive vaccuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began August 19, 2019. Owners may contact Ford Customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S32. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2017 Ford Focus hatchback vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, to August 26, 2016 and equipped with a manual transmission. The hatchback of the affected vehicles may be unlatched with a single press of the interior latch release button. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."

With only a single press needed, the driver may accidently unlatch the hatchback, increasing the risk of injury to any unsecured passengers in the back.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Body Control Module with updated software, free of charge. The recall began February 10, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16C13.

A component within the door latches may break, preventing the doors from latching and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the door latches with an improved part, free of charge. The recall began on January 27, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S30.

  5. Power train, Feb 1, 2020

THE VEHICLE WILL SHUDDER WHILE DRIVING (CITY AND HIGHWAY), HESITATE SIGNIFICANTLY WHEN ACCELERATING, HAS DIED IN THE ROADWAY, HAS BEEN IN GEAR BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, AND JUMPS IN AND OUT OF GEAR WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED THAT BOTH CLUTCH ACTUATORS ARE DEFECTIVE. THIS IS NOT IN RELATION TO ANY PRIOR RECALLS. WAS ADVISED THIS IS ALSO A MAJOR ISSUE THAT THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT SEES. THIS BEGAN HAPPENING SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AND THEY WANT AN OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNT TO FIX IT. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO PAY THE HIGH FEE SO THESE CARS ARE STAYING ON THE ROAD.

  7. Power train, Fuel/propulsion system, Jan 27, 2020

CAR WAS TAKEN TO FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE RECALLS DONE FOR THE TRANSMISSION, FUEL TANK EVAP AND DOOR LATCH. FORD COMPLETED THE RECALLS FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM AND DOOR LATCH AT THIS POTICULAR TIME THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT FIXED.(DID NOT PASS FORDS SHUTTER TEST). AT THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON BECAUSE OF THE TRANSMISSION, ACCORDING TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. I PICKED THE CAR UP AMD DROVE WITH MY SON THE VEHICLE DID NOT DRIVE RIGHT BECAUSE TRANSMISSION ISSUES. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN AFTER CONTACTING FORD MOTOR COMPANY ABOUT MY CONCERN WITH THE DRIVABILITY OF THE CAR. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT BUT HAD TO WAIT APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS BECAUSE THEY WERE REPLACING THE FLOOR IN THEIR SHOP. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON THE ENTIRE TIME UNTIL THE APPOINTMENT. AFTER DROPPING HE CAR OFF AND FORD DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM, I RECEIVED A CALL SAYING FORD MOTOR IS NOW COVERING THE TRANSMISSION AND THEY WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR PARTS TO FINISH IT. AT THIS TIME THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOW ON BECAUSE OF THE PURGE VALVE. I HAD BARELY DRIVEN THE CAR SINCE THE LAST VISIT WHEN THE RECALLS WERE TAKEN CARE OF?? THEY STATED THAT THE PURGE VALVE WOULD NOT BE COVERED BECAUSE THE RECALL HAD BEEN COMPLETED ON THE FUEL TANK. RELUCTANTLY I TOLD THEM TO REPLACE AT MY COST. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED TO SAY THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETE. I PICKED IT UP THAT EVENING AND MADE IT 7 MILES AWAY FROM THE DEALER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ONCE AGAIN. I CALLED THE DEALER IMMEDIATLEY TO LET THEM KNOW AND THEY COULD NOT GET ME IN RIGHT AWAY. MY SON AND I TOOK IT FOR A RIDE THE FOLLOWING DAY AND APPROXIMATY 40 MILES THE CAR LOST POWER AND COULD NOT GO ABOVE 40MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. I CALLED TO MAKE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WHEN THEY DIAGNOSED THIS TIME BOTH CATYLITIC CONVERTORS ARE BAD AND WILL COST $2100 TO REPAIR. WHAT CAUSED THESE TO GO BAD THIS WAS NOT AN ISSUE UNTIL RECA

I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET. CAME TO A STOP AT A LIGHT AND SOMEONE ON A BICYCLE CAME BY. WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE MY RPM'S SHOT WAY HIGH AND MY CAR TRIED TO DRIVE ITSELF FORWARD. LUCKILY THE BIKE RIDER HAD GONE BY. BUT COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN HIT IF MY CAR DID WHAT IT TRIED TO DO. I HAVE BEEN HONKED AT AND HIGH BEAMED WHEN I TRY TO PASS SOMEONE ON A HIGHWAY AND I END UP WITH LITTLE TO NO POWER AND THE PERSON BEHIND ME NEARLY REAR ENDS ME BECAUSE MY CAR WONT GO. WHY DOES IT FEEL LIKE SOMEONE HAS TO TRAGICALLY DIE BEFORE SOMEONE DOES SOMETHING ABOUT THESE FORD FOCUS' ON THE ROAD. THESE CARS ARE NOT SAFE. FORD KNEW THAT, THERE IS PROOF THEY KNEW THAT AND MADE THEM ANYWAY. ITS YOUR JOB AS HIGHWAY SAFETY TO MAKE THEM LIABLE AND GET BETTER STANDARDS BEFORE CARS ARE SENT TO DISTRIBUTION. THERE SHOULD BE MORE PREVENTION THAN THERE IS CORRECTING. DON'T WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO GET HURT BEFORE DECIDING THESE CARS ARE BAD AND UNSAFE. THAT SHOULD BE A BASIC HUMAN REACTION. NOT A CORPORATE ONE. I HAVE SENT TWO VIDEOS I TOOK. ONE OF MY RPMS SPORADICALLY GOING UP AND DOWN AND MY CAR NOT SHIFTING OR HAVING POWER. AND THE OTHER MY RPM'S GOING UP AS I'M COMING TO A STOP. WHICH IS NOT NORMAL. IT SHOULD NOT TRY TO REV ITSELF AS I'M SLOWING DOWN TO AN ALMOST COMPLETE STOP. I GUESS I CANT UPLOAD THE TYPE OF VIDEO I HAVE. BUT I'D BE HAPPY TO SEND THEM ANOTHER WAY IF YOU'D LIKE.

  13. Power train, Jan 20, 2020

I WILL BEGIN WITH MY CONCERN AND THEN PROCEED TO GIVE YOU MY BACK STORY. I WAS ALMOST INVOLVED IN A VERY REAL BROADSIDE COLLISION WITH AN 18-WHEELER AND ANOTHER FORD F-150 ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO. I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC WHEN THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SHIFT INTO SECOND GEAR THROUGH THE TURN. THE BEST WAY I CAN DESCRIBE THIS IS THE FEELING/NOISE WE'VE ALL HAD LEARNING TO DRIVE WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND YOU MISS THE GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS STUCK IN NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE WAS REACHING THE REV LIMITER. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE. I'M VERY FORTUNATE IN THE FACT THAT THE ONCOMING VEHICLES WERE ABLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I HAD TO PUT MY CAR IN PARK, THEN PUT IT BACK IN GEAR TO GET IT GOING AGAIN.THE CAR JUST REACHED 55,000 MILES AND I'VE HAD TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR WARRANTY WORK ON THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY FIVE TIMES SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE VARIOUS SERVICE MANAGERS BOTH TO 'DRIVE THE HELL OUTTA THE THING' TO WEAR IN THE CLUTCH PROPERLY. I'VE BEEN CONVERSELY TOLD TO 'DRIVE LIKE A GRANDMA' IN ORDER TO WEAR IN THE CLUTCH PROPERLY. I HAVE SPOKEN TO THE SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT MY SAFETY CONCERN AND HE STATES THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO 'AT THE DEALERSHIP LEVEL' AND ENCOURAGED ME TO REACH OUT TO FORD CONSUMER AFFAIRS. HIS NEXT OFFER WAS TO 'SIT ME DOWN WITH ONE OF THE SALESMAN' IN ORDER TO 'GET ME INTO SOMETHING BETTER'. I'M NOT IN A FINANCIAL POSITION TO 'GET INTO SOMETHING BETTER'. I HAD PLANNED ON KEEPING THIS CAR FOR ANOTHER 2-3 YEARS AT LEAST. THIS WOULD GET ME THROUGH SCHOOL AND AS MY INCOME POTENTIAL INCREASED, I PLANNED TO TRADE MY FOCUS TOWARDS A LARGER VEHICLE. I WANT TO REITERATE THAT I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR, ESPECIALLY WITH A BABY IN IT. THE CAR CONTINUES TO JUMP OUT OF GEAR, LEAVING THE VEHICLE POWERLESS AT RANDOM TIMES, DESPITE RECENT CLUTCH REPLACEMENTS, ESPECIALLY IN THE COLD WEATHER.

  16. Fuel/propulsion system, Jan 19, 2020

WE HAD A LITTLE OVER A QUARTER TANK OF FUEL. WE GOING SHOPPING SO WE TOPPED OFF THE FUEL TANK THIS MORNING. AFTER WE DROVE APPROXIMATELY 80 MILES, IT STARTED SNOWING HEAVILY. I NOTICED SOMETHING WITH THE CAR. I HAD NO ACCELERATION LIKE THE ENGINE DIED. REGAINED POWER FOR A FEW MINUTES UNTIL THE ENGINE DIED. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO PARK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. TRIED RESTARTING THE ENGINE SEVERAL TIMES. AFTER A HALF HOUR, I TRIED AGAIN ONLY FOR THE ENGINE TO SPUTTER TO AND IDLE. IT IDLED FOR 3 OR 4 SECONDSAND DIED AGAIN. AFTER ANOTHER HALF HOUR I TRIED AGAIN. I STARTED AND RAN ABOUT TEN MINUTES. I HAD THE CAR TOWED HOME IN FEAR OF STALLING OUT AGAIN.

  17. Power train, Jan 19, 2020

WE TEST DROVE FORD FOCUS 2014 SE WITH 50K MILES AT THE DODGE DEALER IN CLERMONT GOTTA. THE TRANSMISSION SHUTTERED WHEN GOING UPHILL AND TURNING LEFT WITH 4 PASSENGERS. WHEN POINTED OUT TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID IT WAS FINE. JUST HEAVY LOAD GOING UP HILL AND TURNING. WE DROVE THE CAR 2000 MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION GOT WORSE. FORD DEALER SAID THEY'D REPAIRED THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCHES ON MANY OF THESE FOCUS AUTOMATIC TIPTRONIC TRANSMISSIONS AND SOME WERE RECALLED SOME WEREN'T. OF COURSE "OURS" WASN'T A RECALL AND COST $2000 AFTER OWNING THE CASE LESS THEN 30 DAYS. THE DEALER SAYS IT WAS SOLD AS IS. I WON'T RECOMMEND THAT DODGE DEALER IN CLERMONT, FLORIDA! AFTER THE FORD DEALER REPAIRED THE TRANSMISSION AND DRIVING 2000 MILES MORE, THE TRANSMISSION IS SHUTTERING AND HESITATING AGAIN. FORD SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS TRANSMISSION AS THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH LOW MILEAGE.

  18. Power train, Electrical system, Jan 16, 2020

FOR AT LEAST THE LAST THREE YEARS THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SHORT PERIODS OF NON-STARTING. IN OCTOBER, 2019 THE CAR WOULD NOT START PERIOD. PREVIOUS IT WAS ABLE TO START AFTER MOVING THE SHIFTER FROM PARK TO DRIVE AND BACK AND SOMETIME USING THE REMOTE START. THE OCTOBER ISSUE REQUIRED TOWING TO NORTH COUNTY FORD IN VISTA, CA. AFTER FIVE DAYS, IT WAS DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND NEEDED REPALCEMENT. AFTER REPLACEMENT THE NON-STARTING ISSUE RESOLVED, BUT IN THE LAST THREE WEEKS IT HAS RETURNED. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY ISSUES WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED AND HESITATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT REFERENCED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V523000 (POWER TRAIN). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER (GEORGE WALL FORD LINCOLN 700 SHREWSBURY AVE, RED BANK, NJ 07701) TO BE DIAGNOSED HOWEVER, THE DIAGNOSIS WAS INCONCLUSIVE. THE MECHANIC WAS ALSO UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE OR RETRIEVE A FAULT CODE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000. *DT*JB

CAR SHAKES/SHATTER EVERYTIME IT SHIFTS BETWEEN 1ST, 2ND, AND 3RD GEAR. NOW THE TRANSMISSION IT GOES BACK AND FORWARD TO NEUTRAL BETWEEN SHIFTING.THE ISSUES IS GETTING WORSE AND DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. AFTER REVIEWING VARIOUS COMPLAINTS I FIND OUT THAT ALL FORDS FROM 2012 AND NEWER HAVE THE SAME ISSUES AND FORD HAS REFUSED TO CORRECTED. THEY ONLY HAVE A RECALL ON THE PCM COMPUTER BUT REFUSED TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH OR TRANSMISSION. EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO 7 YEARS OR 100,000 MILEAGE SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED AS REMEDY SINCE THE ISSUE CONTINUES TO COME BACK. IT IS TIME FOR FORD TO TAKE OWNERSHIP ON THEIR MISTAKE AND BE FORCED TO RECALL ALL TRANSACTIONS ON OUR CARS.

  21. Other or unspecified, Jan 13, 2020

CAR TRANSMISSION IS BROKEN ON THE INSIDE PER DEALER, THERE ARE ARTICLES EXPLAINING THAT FORD KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT STILL PUT THE CAR OUT FOR PURCHASE. CURRENTLY I DO NOT HAVE A VEHICLE TO DRIVE TO WORK. I WAS TOLD BY FORD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PROBLEM ALTHOUGH IT IS AN INTERNAL PROBLEM WITH MANUFACTURING.

  23. Fuel/propulsion system, Jan 8, 2020

VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN THE 'STOP SAFELY NOW' ALERT CAME ON AND DISABLED POWER TO THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE SAFELY BUT UNFORTUNATELY, IT DIDN'T TURN ON AGAIN SO IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO MY HOUSE. AFTER TRYING MULTIPLE TIMES WITH NO LUCK, I HAD IT TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIRS. I KNOW THIS DEFECT IS KNOWN BY FORD SINCE SOME RECALLS HAVE BEEN ISSUED BUT TO TRY TO REPAIR THE CONCERN. MY CAR'S 'ELECTRIC UNIQUE COMPONENT' 8 YEAR WARRANTY IS STILL VALID BUT FORD IS TRYING TO CHARGE ME FOR THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLES 12V BATTERY DIED DUE TO THE PROBLEM BUT THEY MADE ME PURCHASE A NEW ONE FOR $180. I BELIEVE I SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN CHARGED SINCE THE ISSUE WAS CAUSED BY THE CARS DEFECT. THE CAR HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR 2 WEEKS WITH NO RESOLUTION.
