  1. Tires, temporary/emergency spare tireDec 16, 2021

General Motors (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2021 GMC Sierra 1500 and Silverado 1500 vehicles equipped with certain accessory road tires and a 17" spare tire. The 17" spare tire provided with the vehicle is not compatible for use with the accessory wheels, which can cause the anti-lock brake system (ABS) to not function properly under certain conditions.

An ABS system that does not function properly can increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will provide a new 17" spare tire and wheel assembly that is compatible with the accessory wheels, free of charge. Dealers will also apply a new spare tire information label, and provide owners with an owner's manual insert clarifying which spare tire to use with the accessory road tires and with the 17" original tires. Owner notification letters were mailed February 7, 2022. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-462-8782 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. 8. Electrical system, 12v/24v/48v battery, cablesDec 12, 2019

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. The battery positive (B+) cable rings may have been manufactured with excessive glue, potentially causing an intermittent electrical connection between the B+ cable and alternator.

An intermittent electrical connection between the B+ battery cable and the alternator could cause the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. The intermittent connection could also lead to electrical arcing, which could generate sufficient heat to damage surrounding material, increasing the risk of a fire.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect for the presence of glue or other contamination at the B+ cable attachment to the alternator and clean the connection and reattach the B+ cable connection, as necessary. If arcing has damaged the cable, nut, or alternator, the dealer will replace the damaged components. All services will be performed free of charge. GM issued owners an interim notification on February 4, 2020. GM issued second notice and the recall began March 9, 2019. When the front seat belt pretensioners deploy, hot gas may vent through an opening in the pretensioner bracket, possibly igniting the carpet.

A vehicle fire could result if materials ignite inside the vehicle.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will close off the opening in the pretensioner bracket, free of charge. The recall began December 13, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267. GM's number for this recall is N192270600.

  1. Power train, Nov 8, 2024

The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that while shifting gear, there was an abnormally loud banging sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle failed to shift into gear properly. The wheels were slipping and pulling while driving at various speeds. While driving on the road, there was an abnormal rumbling sound. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Joe Ball GMC (1750 William Flinn Hwy., Glenshaw, PA 15116); to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be drained and flushed. The dealer informed the contact to drive for 200 miles. The dealer also recommended replacing the transmission. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

  2. Engine, Oct 26, 2024

While driving the transmission lurches forward when I give it gas after slowing down or when I come to a complete stop. Also it makes a shuddering type noise randomly when driving and it feels like the truck is about to shut off. These issues happen on multiple occasions.

  3. Engine, Oct 21, 2024

Oil line separates causing massive oil leak causing engine to fail

  4. Other or unspecified, Oct 20, 2024

Rear sliding window has a leak. While washing the vehicle or if it rains, water penetrates threw the window and into the inside headliner causing water stains and mold. Water also runs down the inside of the back window to the floor carpet, also creates water stains and mold. General Motors has a Bulletin 18-NA-383, Which does not fix the problem, but only puts a temporary patch. The permanent fix would be to replace the whole window.

  5. Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 5, 2024

On [XXX] at approximately 2 pm the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 (with 6.2 gas motor) motor died while I was driving in traffic. Incident #1 - The vehicle started sputtering and died - no alerts on dash until after the truck died - an empty fuel tank symbol briefly lit up on dash that led me to suspect a fuel pump issue as the fuel tank was full. Safety issue = vehicle failure with no warning in traffic putting occupants in risk. The vehicle would not start and was towed to the GMC dealer where I had purchased the vehicle. Incident #2, the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 has an electronic gear shifter and will not go into neutral unless engine is running - problem as needed tow as not able to crank yet struggled to get towed as transmission will not go into neutral - apparently dealer has special tool to put 2019 GMC Sierra into neutral that is not available to consumer. Service department at dealer - Childre GMC in Milledgeville GA - contacted me on September 25, 2024 and stated 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 needs a Fuel Pump Control Module part number 13565641 but the part is not available in the GM system and may take weeks or months for part to arrive. Apparently, there are other GM trucks at this dealership waiting same part (appears to be a national issue not just a one time issue). Dealer gave me a GMC customer service number to call. I called GMC customer service on September 25, 2024 and registered a complaint that no parts are available to fix my car. Neither the selling dealer or GM customer service offered any relief with a loaner or rental car. Internet searches on forums focused on new GMC/Chevrolet trucks confirm that multiple consumers have this issue with the Fuel Pump Control Module and that GM cannot supply the repair part. The part is not available on the secondary supply chain like AutoZone, Oreilly, or similar. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  6. Steering, Power train, Service brakes, Oct 2, 2024

Truck showed check engine light and popup message to Service ESC, vehicle disable traction control. Before being able to have the vehicle scanned for error codes (after sitting parked turned off for a while, all errors cleared. Several days later when turning vehicle on traction control warning light, parking break warning light, and stability control warning light all turned on, service ESC message popped up again, PRNDL position indicator light turned off and vehicle began to have a clicking noise in the steering column when break was pressed. There is a multiple year long thread on this topic on the silveradosierra forum entitled "service-esc-and-service-power-steering" it appears that dealer and GM help are limited and the issue often goes away and recurs.

  7. Engine, Sep 27, 2024

2019 GMC SIERRA 1500, Fuel Injectors. This was a recall back in April of 2021. My vin is not on the recall list but am having the same problems. While driving the check engine light came on alone with no power check abs system and parking brake.

  8. Electrical system, Visibility/wiper, Lane departure, Sep 23, 2024

Rear window leaks as also reported by GM when truck was manufactured (GM Service Bulletin 18-NA-383). Water from leaking rear window gets into the electronics used for safety systems as well as rear camera and eventually disables safety systems.

  9. Power train, Electrical system, Engine, Sep 18, 2024, fire

While driving the vehicle caught engine fire later exploding within seconds.

  10. Latches/locks/linkages, Sep 17, 2024

The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the tailgate independently opened. There was no warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.

  11. Steering, Aug 31, 2024

While driving on the freeway the power steering lost it's power. There was so much resistance from the steering wheel it became almost impossible to control the vehicle. There was a notice on the info screen " power steering needs service. I was able to get the truck to a GMC dealer where a certified mechanic had to replace the steering gear motor. The truck has been lightly used and only has 35,070 miles on the odometer.

  12. Power train, Aug 28, 2024

The contact pulled over to the side of the roadway and turned off and restarted the vehicle and the shaking ceased. The contact stated that the failure became a persistent failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the vehicle had experienced transmission failure however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 84,000.

  13. Steering, Suspension, Aug 21, 2024

The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 25 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormally loud sound and the front driver's side wheel detached. The vehicle came to a complete stop. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the upper control arm had disconnected from the steering wheel ball joint, and it was determined that the upper control joint, steering wheel column, and front driver's and passenger's side wheel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle had received an alignment twenty days prior to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

  14. Power train, Engine, Aug 13, 2024

Right lifter went out & damaged the CAM Shaft which in turn damaged the engine The vehicle has been sitting at the dealership since August 1, 2024 & confirmed on August 9, 2024, stating that a new CAM shaft would need replaced or a new engine, which ever we choose. NOTE: Vehicle only has 40,298 miles on it I was driving to work on August 1, 2024, service engine light came on & was blinking & the breaking system lights came on, this was the only warning that I received.

  15. Engine, Aug 11, 2024

The engine of the vehicle malfunctioned. The vehicle is available, but however it was taken to a certified dealership to be repaired. My safety and the safety of my three nieces, who were in the vehicle at the time, were put at risk as the vehicle all of a sudden staled in the middle of the Interstate while driving at 75 miles speed rate. The dealership repaired the vehicle by replacing the engine because the camshaft was scored, one of the lifters had failed, and a pushrod was bent. The only warning lamp/message was at the time of stale which read service ESC, Service parking break, and there was a third message but could not remember. I have only had the vehicle for sixteen months. The vehicle was taken in for it regularly scheduled oil changes and tire rotations. There were no issues or warnings prior to the engine replacement which cost me $8623.00.

Rear window leaks in water at the top of the seal

  17. Structure, Visibility/wiper, Jul 23, 2024

Rear 3rd brake light and rear window are leaking water into the cab causing visibility issues.

  18. Structure, Jul 9, 2024

smoke chrome trim package on the front of the vehicle is peeling and is a manufacturer defect, GM is offering no assistance in remedying this problem and is a known problem by gm with vehicles going back as far as 2017

  19. Other or unspecified, Jul 6, 2024

Engine oil cooler line blew apart at factory crimp.

  20. Steering, Electrical system, Engine, Jul 2, 2024

2019 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT. Truck would not start on several occassions. By playing with brake, shift, and steering wheel truck would start again., Also would show warning notices, last one being {engine oil low-add oil}, even right after I just had the oil changed. This last time it would not start I paid to have my mechanic come to me to check it out. He tested a lot and thought it might be the starter so I then had to pay to have it flat-bedded to their garage. What he finally found was a BUNCH of wires worn through in a major wiring harness. It was caused by the wiring harness being next to the steering knuckle and the steering was wearing through the wires exposing bare wires. The mechanic and I see this as a major safety concern and a possible fire hazard. He has told me others have had similer problems . I believe this should definitly be a safety recall for these vehicles. My mechanic states that a new wiring harness olone is about $1500.00 plus a LOT of labor to install it. I do not believe that I should have to pay for a defect in GMC building this truck I have a picture of this mess of wires if you can help me with this. Don't know how to upload the photo I have but would gladly send it to you, Please respond back to this. Thank You Dennis Dorn

  21. Latches/locks/linkages, Jul 1, 2024

The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds or while the vehicle was parked, the tailgate opened inadvertently. Additionally, the contact stated that the tailgate failed to lock or unlock manually. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that unknown parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.

  22. Power train, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, May 28, 2024

Check Engine Light came on while driving system scan states misfire cylinder 6 but resulted in the lifter being damaged as well as the cam shaft on a vehicle that has 108,000 miles. Prior to this I reported multiple times that it seemed that the transmission would slip and stuttered when on a incline and put in reverse. I was told it was a computer program issue and was charged for a software update which obviously did not fix the issue but ruined the engine.

  23. Steering, Apr 24, 2024

When starting the truck yesterday, not all the button lights came on and the power steering was no longer operational. I was fortunate the power steering issue did not materialize while the vehicle was in operation on the road. No warning prior to the failure was given by the vehicle.

  24. Steering, Wheels, Apr 23, 2024, crash

While making a righthand turn at approximately 10-15 mph, my passenger side front wheel failed at the ball joint and collapsed. Reviewing the carfax, this is the 2nd time this has happened to this vehicle (the first was on the driver side wheel). I noticed Safety Recall Report 21V-718 seems to describe the issue I'm facing with the "front upper control arm experiencing accelerated wear... leading to ball joint separation", but according to GM, since no unsatisfied recalls are shown on my VIN report, there's nothing they're willing to do. I believe the failed part number is 573. This failure left my truck sitting in the middle of the road obviously with no way to move it other than a tow truck dragging it onto his bed.

  25. Vehicle speed control, Engine, Apr 20, 2024

Driving on the highway coming home from brother in laws house and the truck suddenly popped check engine, brake service and ESC lights came on dashboard while engine power was reduced causing sluggish performance. Made it home and put a scan tool and pulled a cylinder 3 misfire. Replaced spark plug and confirm it’s not an ignition coil problem. Brought to dealer and was confirmed the DOD lifter failed in other words AFM. Overwhelmed and couldn’t do anything but to pay and get truck back to working order told go ahead for replacement of parts for nearly $6k.
