While driving on the highway, I got a message that said "low oil pressure, turn off engine" with red flashing lights. I could also smell burning oil and metal. I immediately pulled over and turned off my engine. When I exited my truck, I could see all of the oil that remained in my engine leaking onto the ground. My truck was towed to a local repair shop and they advised me that this is a common problem in this truck. The oil line blew likely due to a defective crimp. The mechanics can't repair the problem right away because this line is on a national backorder and there is no aftermarket option. This obviously happens too often if this part is on backorder. The mechanics believe there may have been damage done to the engine as a result of losing all of the oil on the highway.

Engine began having ticking noise. I took it to dealer for repair. Service department finds the lifters in my engine have failed and destroyed my cam shaft. They call me and explain it will cost $10,000 to repair. The service writer explains to me that they have 4 of these each week come into the shop. It is so common that they keep the parts in stock to repair. While I was waiting in the waiting room another person came in with the exact same problem. I later found that a repair bulletin has been issues for this issue but for some reason it does not apply to my vin even though it is the exact same problem.
Engine, Jan 30, 2023
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while performing an oil change, the engine coolant line was leaking oil. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Number: N212326940 (Engine Oil Cooler Lines Detaching from Crimp) however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 38,200.

The lifters were replaced leas that 2years under warranty at Pooler Chevrolet. They have stated this is a common problem with this vehicle and they had a lot of these vehicles come in with the same exact problem. Vehicle had no power, engine lights on and valve failure after being replaced before and the vehicle has less than 60,000 miles at 2nd failure. They stated the 1st repair has no warranty to cover such a catastrophic failure and I must pay out of pocket. I argued that it shouldn't have failed with less than. 60,000 miles any expectations of engine failure would be with massive miles and would be expected for some form.of major over haul. Caused emergency as i was in the middle of the interstate upon failure and I almost lost my life. I asked who was performing the repair and they won't answer the request about the repair. They stated it was sent out for repairs and not an in house repair. All repairs have been at GM certified center.

On another occasion, while driving 70 MPH, the parking brake warning light and 4WD warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer again and the contact was informed that the actuator switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The failure mileage was 37,000.

The rear window on the 2019 GMC Sierra SLT leaks water into the cab. This presents a serious concern to the owner of the vehicle because unless you are specifically looking for the leak you may not even know there is one. Upon noticing the leak, one can witness a steady drip of water behind the rear seat, drivers side. My personal concern is that what happens after the water has leaked and had gone unnoticed for an extended period of time, does mold start to grow? Does my truck have mold growing in it? With two young children in the vehicle I am concerned about their health and safety. My frustration with this issue is that GM refuses to acknowledge that there is an issue. My dealer has brought this issue up with GM but the claim has been denied. I have no idea how long the leak has been happening but it’s a manufacturing problem that exists and it certainly shouldn't be the owners responsibility to fix the problem. More importantly, it shouldn't be my young childrens health that is affected by the manufacturers incompetency and ignorance.
Electrical system, Dec 11, 2022
The rear window defogger is smoking and sizzling. The connection on the passenger side glass that connects the moveable harness for the center glass smokes and sizzles when the rear defogger is on. There is a recall on these vehicles in Canada for this issue. My concern is that it may start a fire. The connector is right behind the right rear passenger seat, imposing a threat to the occupant of that seat. Also, the rear defogger comes on automatically with heated mirrors when remote started. I cannot use remote start, mirror defogger, or rear glass defogger currently due to this defect. I noticed a sizzling sound while driving the truck. I pulled over and began searching. I found smoke being emitted from the connector attached to the rear glass on the passenger side. This is a serious issue. It is a fire hazard. The vehicle could catch fire while driving or while remote engine start has been activated in temperatures lower than 40 degrees. There is a difference in an uncommon electrical short and a known problem. General Motors is aware of this issue and there has not be a notification to owners in the United States nor are there any recalls or suggested repairs. The safety of consumers is in jeopardy with this known problem occurring in multiple lines of their vehicles. Any with a power sliding glass could be affected.
Engine, Dec 1, 2022
I was on the highway going 60mph and the engine light came on and it said “low oil pressure, turn off engine”. I could not safely pull over and had to drive a half mile to do so. The vehicle was towed to the service station near my house that I’ve used before and the problem was a blown high pressure oil line. Technician said that the hose came undone at the crimp joint and that he’s recently seen other Sierras with the same problem. I checked my GMC app and there were no recalls so I authorized the repair and paid the $919 bill. A few days later I did a google search for 2019 GMC Sierra oil line problems and got several hits from the GMauthority.com site. It’s a known problem in Canada and Alaska (cold weather) and GMC will repair it at no charge if the vehicle was bought there and the repair is done by a GMC repair facility but they won’t reimburse me because I bought mine in MA. It was 24 degrees the day the line blew. The problem is that the part is faulty and fails at cold temperatures. There should be a recall on the high pressure oil lines for all vehicles sold in cold weather states.

The truck has 50,000 miles, purchased new. I don't tow or go off road. I take it to the dealer every 5,000 miles. While driving 65-70mph on the interstate (4-lanes), my dash lit up with five messages and the "Brake, Traction Control and Engine" lights illuminated. I applied brakes but the pedal went to the floor and the steering veered to the left causing me to move out of my lane. The truck then went to limp mode and I was unable to go above 43mph the remainder of the trip home. After taking it to my dealer the next day, I was told they "found air in the brake fluid system due to secondary seal failure in brake master cylinder, and was quoted a new cylinder (PN 86788482) for $1708.06. RESPONSE TO QUESTIONS: >Component failure: brake master cylinder (eBoost Brake Unit Assembly) / Brake System Failure >It was just me in the vehicle - brake failure on the highway put me and others on the road at major risk >Yes - After paying to diagnose, I was told this was brake master cylinder failure. ...GM issued a Customer Satisfaction Program (N202324120) for a limited number of MY2021 Silverado/Sierra trucks (mine is a MY2019) for dealers to replace the eBoost brake unit assemblies due to failure >Part has not been inspected by my insurance rep./I do not know if anyone else has inspected >The warnings illuminated on the dash at the time of brake failure while on the interstate 1. "Service ESC" 2. "Service Trailer Brake System" 3. "Steering Assist Is Reduced Drive with Care" 4. "Service Brake Assist" 5. "Brake System Failure 43 MPH Top Speed" 6. While driving down the highway at 70 MPH, the transmission slammed into gear and the engine died. A message appeared and said shift to neutral and press the ignition button. The check engine light also appeared. This had been a problem that first appeared at 48,000 miles. I was told that GM recognizes that there is an issue with the transmission, but that it would not damage the vehicle so it is not able to be repaired under warranty. The dealership advised that I should change the transmission fluid, so I did. The transmission continued to slam into gear thereafter. Fast forward to 55,000 miles where the truck completely died. The engine would not start and the truck had to be towed to a dealership. The next day the dealership told me that they had figured out the issue and that it was related to the fuse box and the ignition. I picked up my truck the next day, and drove less than a mile before the engine died again. I sat at the dealership for 12 hours and they had another answer for what was happening. They said that the shift lever was damaged and it was not allowing the battery to recharge. I live 400 miles away from where the truck broke down. I had to rent a vehicle to return home with my family from a trip. I now have to drive back to my truck in another state, and pay for the 12 plus hours of diagnostic work at $140 an hour as well as the cost of the part and the time to install it because the dealership stated that this is not covered by any warranty. I see that several people are dealing with a similar issue and I am frustrated that no one is willing to help us right this wrong. My grandfather worked for GM his entire adult life, and I will never own another one.
