Truck acted like it would not start several times in a day. Had battery replaced and it still did not fix the issue. Was told by dealership I would need to bring in and let them look at it. Was going to delearship and noticed a llight knocking in my engine then all of a sudden lost power. Was able to coast out of traffic and onto a curb. Truck would not start or even try, yet every light and such still worked. Had taken to dealership and this morning was told it was the engine.

I was driving along the freeway with my family of five. There were no warning lamps. There was an odd noise for about 10 seconds, and then the engine completely seized/locked up. I lost all ability to use the engine. I was able to come across three lanes of traffic, thankfully, without hitting anything without the ability to accelerate. GMC dealership inspected the car the next day. The engine is completely seized up. They are replacing the entire engine, but it has been a month without my car. They still do not have the parts available. We are fortunate. There were no other cars around us and I was able to steer to the Berm Across three lanes. This could’ve caused a catastrophic accident for my family.

While driving along [XXX] in northern Arkansas the on [XXX] my 2023 GMC Sierra Denali's 6.2 engine suddenly locked up causing us to pull on to the shoulder of the road - nearly causing an accident. The vehicle had 23000 miles on it at the time. We were towing a two horse trailer with one horse aboard. At our expense, we had the vehicle and trailer towed back to St. Louis, MO then to O'Fallon Buick GMC. The dealer replaced the entire engine under warranty with a used rebuilt engine. They have omitted the engine replacement from the vehicle history report in CARFAX. The dealer had handled a number of 6.2 engine failures prior to this one. The vehicle was serviced well within factory guidelines at the dealer. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Engine, Jan 18, 2025
While I was driving, the dash screen read "Press start button" and suddenly the vehicle loss engine power and I had to veer to the far right lane. Luckily the cars around me swerved away. I had initially called OnStar, but when the police arrived they told me I couldn't wait for Onstar as I was impeding traffic so they called a local tow truck and they towed it to my house. From my house, OnStar towed it to the GMC dealership. The dealership stated the engine has locked up and needs a whole new engine replacement.
Service brakes, Jan 17, 2025
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving on the highway at 75 MPH, all of the warning lights on the instrument panel had illuminated, the contact depressed the brakes and the vehicle would not brake in a panic the contact quickly steered into the left lane, pumped the brakes frantically, and the vehicle was finally able to come to a stop. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, the contact was advised that the failure experienced was due to a faulty battery and that it would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 28,550.
Power train, Jan 15, 2025
The truck stopped in the middle of an intersection with a transmission error code stating it could no longer shift. The transmission was locked and unable shift or move.
Power train, Engine, Jan 14, 2025
While driving at about 70 mph, the screens in the vehicle went black and the truck had a complete loss of power. The vehicle inadvertently braked to approximately 30 mph and went into limp mode. The check engine warning light came on and the service power steering warning light, the service transmission warning light, the low tire pressure warning light, and the traction control warning light all illuminated. There were also messages displayed on the instrument panel to Service 4-WD and Reduce Acceleration and Drive with Care.”
Latches/locks/linkages, Jan 13, 2025

The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the exterior touchpad switch assembly was faulty and needed to be replaced. The touchpad switch assembly was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). I was driving on a rural and narrow 2 lane road with next to no shoulder when my engine started losing power. There were no check engine lights or other indicators of failure until the final 2 seconds. At that point, a message popped up on the dash stating something along the lines that my engine oil was too hot and to idle the engine. 2 seconds later, at 50mph my engine died. That is scary enough, but I was also towing a 5,000lb+ trailer, it was -3F, heavy winds, and I had my 2 dogs with me. Thankfully, I kept my wits about me, remained calm, and made it to the side of the road. As mentioned, there was not much shoulder so this put me in great danger of being hit by careless drivers speeding by. The nearest police officer was an hour away, so I was in quite a predicament. Had this happened to most other people, the narrative would have ended much differently. Come to find out, this is a common issue with these 6.2l engines. So much so, that there is a backorder on the engines due to the high replacement demand. This poses extreme danger not only "in the moment" of failure, but also the environmental dangers/risks users are potentially exposed to, just as I was. This needs to be a recall as this is a substantial and immediate safety issue in my opinion.
Engine, Dec 26, 2024
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated the vehicle was consuming excessive oil consumption. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was consuming oil every 2,000 miles. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle was consuming oil at a regular timeframe. The manufacturer advised the contact to have an oil consumption test. The failure mileage was 21,000.
Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 26, 2024
When driving leaving my home and about 2 miles in operation the truck lost power. Not realizing quite what was happening looking at the instrument panel I noticed a drop in RPM and speed. There were no other indicators of problems and The check engine light didn't come on. Instinctively i pushed the accelerator down with no response. Now realizing that the truck was having problems I tried to get off the road. The area of malfunction was not a good place to stop and did the best I could, the truck half out of the traffic lane. In trying to restart the truck which turned over but would not restart. I felt it was acting like it ran out of fuel, checking the fuel gage which indicated 3/4 tank. The truck was towed to the dealership. During the intake conversion the employee stated " it's probably the fuel control module " which I thought was odd at the time with no one even looking at the truck. Finally results was the fuel control module. I am thinking back on how the truck abruptly came to the stop that I was not in a center lane of a busy highway. In my research I have noticed that there seems to be an updated part number and replacement for this OEM fuel module. I did order a spare to have just in case this happens again. Few things I find interesting is that the dealer knew what the problem was during intake, had one on the shelf and replaced it and had me going the next day. This incident i surely wouldn't want to happen to my wife, anyone on a busy highway or other unsafe situation that the engine needs to in operation.
Exterior lighting, Dec 17, 2024
The reverse lights are too dim to provide sufficient viewing of the rear of the truck when it is dark outside and there is no other lighting. Almost nothing can be seen from the rearview or sideview mirrors, and the backup camera is rendered useless. GM changed the design of the taillights such that they are now sealed, which means owners cannot upgrade the reverse lights with stronger LEDs any longer. This lack of lighting is more than an inconvenience; it is a safety issue. This is a known issue and GM is well aware of it. The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated upon attempting to start the vehicle remotely, the lights illuminated; however, the engine failed to turn over. The contact stated that upon pressing the Push to Start button, the message "Service Braking System" and other braking system messages, and message that the "Top Speed 43 MPH" were displayed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle experienced reduced braking while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where an unknown software update was performed; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where a service representative scanned the vehicle and informed the contact that diagnostic trouble codes were retrieved; however, the dealer later informed the contact that the failure could not be replicated. The contact used a scanner to scan the vehicle and retrieved diagnostic trouble codes. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer later informed the contact that they could not assist because the dealer stated that the failure could not be replicated. The failure mileage was unknown.
Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Dec 14, 2024
The issues with my vehicle began when the radio intermittently cut off or froze. Despite several attempts by the dealer to resolve the problem, they were unsuccessful. Early on, various electrical components failed to load or perform correctly, with the dealer attributing this to software updates. Currently, when the radio cuts off or freezes, I experience additional problems: the headlights randomly flash between dim and bright, the heads-up display fails to load or shows incomplete information, the collision detection activates with no objects around, and dynamic cruise control becomes unreliable or fails to engage. The wipers operate randomly, and the vehicle stalls when the auto start/stop feature is engaged. Random warning lights appear on the dash, and each day brings new, different issues. A new symptom involves the vehicle not recognizing the keys are inside, causing it to shut off and lock me inside. This recently happened while I was driving at low speed in a parking lot, which poses a serious safety risk. On the interstate, safety issues are more concerning: headlights flashing on and off, dynamic cruise control failing, BLIS and collision control activating unexpectedly, and the vehicle locking me inside with keys in the truck. My children are scared to ride in the vehicle due to these issues. The dealer claims they cannot replicate the problems, despite videos I’ve provided showing malfunctions. They acknowledge the issues but blame them on software updates. Multiple updates have been applied, but the problems continue and are becoming more frequent, affecting more systems. The vehicle is under warranty, but as of December 13, 2024, the dealer has refused to service it. After the dealer completed some work, an independent inspection confirmed the issues persist. Warning messages and malfunctioning lamps have been captured on video. Problem has been reported from first service approximately 6/2023 as radio malfunction / electrical issues

Coolant control valve malfunction Vehicle placed into limp mode while driving with no way to reset. Vehicle taken to dealer and issued verified with part ordered. Multiple dash warning lights and several different limp modes activated prior to vehicle needing to be stopped
Engine, Dec 11, 2024
Failing coolant control valve causing reduced acceleration warning and engine overheating. Replacement parts unavailable from GM. Vehicle has been at dealership for a month and showing symptoms sporadically since the first few thousand miles getting increasingly worse over time. Reduced acceleration caus d many unsafe incidences when on the highway.
Service brakes, Dec 5, 2024
While driving on the highway a message came up stating Brake System Failure, top speed 62 mph. It also came up with other error messages, like service traction control. I completely lost any braking capability and had to let it slow down & pull off to the side of the highway. I shutoff the vehicle and then restarted it & everything seemed fine. I took it to the dealership right away, where they said it had about 20 communication codes across different systems. After 3 days of them having it, they have no idea what is going on. They are now test driving my truck to see if they can get it to happen again (which could kill someone if it does happen again).
Engine, Dec 4, 2024
Coolant control valve has failed. Part is back ordered and availability unknown. Truck goes into reduced power mode which makes merging into traffic unsafe.
Engine, Dec 4, 2024
Coolant control valve failure. The 3.0 Duramax Diesel engine coolant control valve is known for failure. The part is not available and it has no availability time frame from GM. Vehicle goes into reduced acceleration mode hindering driver from being able yo accelerate safely in traffic.
Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 3, 2024
Engine stops running due to a known problem with GM's Fuel Pump Control Module. The unexpected shutting off of the engine poses a serious risk to passengers and other vehicles while operation on all roads. There are numerous vehicles in the service centers of all GM dealerships with the exact same failed part. The three month backlog on receiving parts is indicative that GM knows about this problem and has not issued recalls.
Other or unspecified, Nov 26, 2024
This vehicle has an electronic tailgate release mechanism. This is the 1/2 ton version of GMC ‘s pickup. The tailgate releases randomly and opens, generally while driving down the highway. I have dump the contents of the truck bed on the road immediately in front of vehicles which are behind me, causing serious handling and collision issues for the trailing vehicles. No accidents have occurred yet. When I have called the GMC dealer, they inform me that the electronic tailgate release mechanism HAS BEEN RECALLED ON OTHER GMC TRUCKS for this EXACT reason but NOT for my model. While they will repair the device if they can get it to fail in the shop(which it wont), they will NOT replace it under warranty because it has not been recalled. How can this be?? It is clearly a recall issue and should be included in the recall program.
Structure, Nov 18, 2024
My 2023 Sierra has an issue with the tailgate opening at any given time while in park. The dealer denied such issue until I noted a GM recall on the tailgate switch becoming contaminated with water. My issue is the amount of items, such as tools, half full plastic gas cans, shovel, etc, that I have lost out the rear of my vehicle endangering other motorists. My tailgate has become damaged, mostly paint damage, however I am more concerned about the public's safety and other GM trucks with the same growing issue. It was not until my dead battery (in a 2023 vehicle) caused me to discover the tailgate issue was connected to the short in the release switch. I also have a tonneau cover so I cannot see the tailgate and the truck gives no indication of the tailgate being down. This problem began within a few months after purchase.
Structure, Nov 18, 2024
UNKNOWN. While I was driving down the interstate going 75MPH the top part of my grill flew off cracking my wondshield. I pulled over and pick it up and all the plastic welded factory clips broke off. This is a seriously dangerous issue that should be recalled and covered by GMC

I have been trying since day one of my brand new 2023 Sierra Denali pickup truck hence I spent a $100 K plus OEM accessories at the dealer ! This complaint is in reference to the safety part of the brake trailing that disconnect and lose light and brakes ! I have Spent insane times at the dealers and have complained to the GMC Executive offices with Nothing but excuses and Absolutely Zero Help from GMC Cooperate but continue to go make appointments at the dealers ! This is Safety complaint and they are not taking this seriously at all ! There is defiantly a ongoing issue with either the computer onboard or the trailer Module ! I am not a engineer but again this is a safety Issue that needs to be looked at ASAP ! I do not feel safe driving the truck !
