Recalls and investigations

  1. Fuel system, gasoline, delivery, fuel pumpDec 18, 2023

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2023 Honda Accord, Civic Coupe, Civic Sedan, Civic Hatchback, Civic Type R, CR-V, HR-V, Ridgeline, Odyssey, Acura ILX, MDX, MDX Hybrid, RDX, RLX, TLX, 2019-2022 Honda Insight, Passport, 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid, 2018-2019 Honda Clarity PHEV, Fit, and 2015-2020 Honda Accord Hybrid, Pilot, Acura NSX vehicles. The fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.

Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the fuel pump module, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed September 6, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are KGC and KGD. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recall numbers 21V-215 and 20V-314.

  2. Power train, driveline, driveshaftDec 10, 2020

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2015 Accord vehicles equipped with a 4-cylinder engine and a continuously-variable transmission that were originally sold, or ever registered, in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The drive shafts were assembled with a lubricant that may have degraded the drive shafts' protective coating, making it more susceptible to damage from road salt or other contaminants, and potentially cause it to break.

A broken drive shaft may cause a sudden loss of drive power. The vehicle could also roll away if the parking brake has not been applied before the vehicle has been exited. Either condition can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the drive shafts, replacing both the left and right drive shafts, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began February 4, 2021. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138.

  3. Electrical system, 12v/24v/48v batteryJun 29, 2017

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Honda Accord vehicles. The case for the battery sensor, part of the battery management system, may allow water to get in, potentially causing an electrical short.

An electrical short increases the risk of a fire.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the sensor, free of charge. Dealers will perform an interim remedy of applying adhesive to the case to prevent water intrusion. The recall began November 8, 2017. Owners may contact American Honda Customer Support Center at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is KG0.

  4. Engine and engine cooling, engineMar 2, 2015

American Honda Motor Co. (Honda) is recalling certain model year 2014 Accord L4 vehicles manufactured July 29, 2014, to July 31, 2014, 2015 Accord L4 vehicles manufactured August 14, 2014, to January 30, 2015, and 2015 CR-V vehicles manufactured September 9, 2014, to February 6, 2015. The affected vehicles may have been assembled with improperly torqued connecting rod bolts, which can cause the engine to lose power or leak oil.

Loss of engine power may result in a vehicle stall, increasing the risk of a crash. If the engine leaks oil in the proximity of hot engine or exhaust components, there is an increased risk of a fire.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the engine short block, free of charge. The recall began on March 27, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is JP2 (for Accord models) and JP3 (for CR-V models).

  1. Electrical system, Mar 29, 2023

i have a push start and sometimes the car will not start. you then wait a min or so and try again and it will work. You push the button and the car does not start. then you turn off the accs then wait and push the button again and it will start.

  2. Electrical system, Engine, Mar 18, 2023

I was on a busy highway, going uphill. The car suddenly decreased speed to 40 mph for about 60 seconds. The car then lost all acceleration with the gas engine still running. Dash warning said "Power system failure". I was able to maneuver the car to the side of the road and call AAA to have it towed to the Honda dealership. Dealership repair center was unable to find a problem.

  3. Electrical system, Mar 16, 2023

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start up immediately, requiring several attempts before the vehicle would start up. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the starter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 39,000.

  4. Electrical system, Engine, Mar 15, 2023

This generation of Honda has known issue with the push start button to start the car. It sometimes take 3 to 4 or more attempts to start the car successfully. It has a grinding/whirring sound when the engine failed to start. I think it’s a clearance issue between the engine flywheel/torque converter and the starter motor that cause the engine failed to start. I strongly believe Honda should have a recall on this issue to resolve the clearance issue because it’s clearly the engineering design flaw on Honda.

  5. Steering, Mar 14, 2023

Driving normally , while the car is doing 30mph power steering light comes on and steering wheel locks and becomes hard to turn the wheel. Light will go off randomly and resume normal driving. Looks like it may be an electrical issue as I checked and this car is known for this problem. Last month, my driveshaft broke off and couldn't continue driving, this was a known recall and I went to get it fixed. I do not feel safe driving my car with this known problem and you all should request Honda to recall this issue.

  6. Engine and engine cooling, Mar 6, 2023

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated while having routine maintenance performed on her vehicle, she was informed that the oil level was very low. The contact stated that the check oil warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the frequency of the "check oil" light had increased and that the time between having the oil topped off and "check oil" light had gone from several months to only several weeks. Additionally, the contact stated that the "check oil" light had stopped illuminating; however, the engine was still consuming oil abnormally. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact stated that oil was added and the oil filter changed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 127,000.

  7. Other or unspecified, Engine, Feb 26, 2023

    1. The vehicle doesn’t accelerate and is available for inspection. 2. My safety and everyone around was compromised with the car failure on the freeway. 3. No. 4. No. 5. No.

  8. Steering, Feb 4, 2023

The power steering system of the car (68000 miles on odometer) abruptly stopped working while pulling away from the curb at the airport. Car was turned off and restarted; the steering warning light which had appeared went away. Steering worked well for a couple of weeks when it failed again while driving 60 MPH on the interstate. This was very scary and dangerous to myself and other motorists! Fortunately I was able to steer across lanes to right berm and stop. Car was restarted and taken to service location. The steering warning light was cleared and we were told to take the car to a Honda dealer. Honda dealer had car for over a week but could not get steering to 'act up'. For approximately the next 11 months, steering would randomly go off without warning. This happened in parking situations and also while turning on city roads. Eventually steering warning light could no longer be cleared by turning off motor and restarting. Honda dealer replaced entire steering rack and assembly for over $3500. Since steering system has been replaced, we have had no steering problems.

  9. Steering, Jan 26, 2023

When at low speeds especially when pulling into parking spot with wheel turned, wheel seems to stick, heat turns off and once parked, power steering makes squeaking noise. Has occurred multiple times. Realize there is already an investigation into this. Unsure what issue may be. Will likely take to Honda to ensure safe operation of vehicle.

  10. Electrical system, Jan 11, 2023

I filed a complaint on 3/28/2022 regarding the ignition starter, original request 588668, sometimes the car starts and then it doesn't and I had the starter replaced (with Honda parts), however now this ignition starter is doing the same. I was told that the wires get corroded and hence the starter needs to be replaced. I find this to be a hazard, what happens if the engine just stops??? I feel Honda should have had a recall on this, as I researched this on the internet and I found numerous articles about this issue. For a new starter it cost me a little over six hundred dollars,($600.00) with no reimbursement. My 2nd complaint number is 501018. I feel your department should look into this matter, as everyone does not have the finances to go out and purchase a new vehicle. I am sole owner and driver of my car. Thank you, Linda J. Fazio

  11. Electrical system, Dec 29, 2022

The starter failed after only 35,000 miles. It is available for inspection upon request. Problem was diagnosed and starter replaced by Firestone Car Care in late November 2022. Problem first detected in early November 2022 and became increasingly frequent that the car would not start. Was stranded a few times and other times had to try starting the car multiple times over the course of several minutes. No warning lights, messages or symptoms prior to failure. Vehicle has not been inspected by police, manufacturer or insurance agent.

  12. Engine, Dec 10, 2022

I have been driving this car as my commuter car, oil changes been maintained. Suddenly started hearing knoking noise out of the engine compartment, finally I was able to diagnose the issue after reading on the internet it was the Connecting rod bearing that gave way.

  13. Electrical system, Nov 23, 2022

The starter fails to work. This was an unsafe situation while parked in a store parking lot at night. Vehicle starter was inspected by Honda technician who identified the starter failed. There was no warning signs, no dash engine light sign. This issue did not show up on the diagnostic that was recently done on my car during routing maintenance. The battery in my vehicle is new. I've not missed any regular maintenance on my vehicle since I purchased it in 2014 and the car is well taken care of and clean.

  14. Service brakes, Forward collision avoidance, Nov 22, 2022

Antilock Brake System modulator failure. Malfunction lights showed Forward Collision Warning System Failure, Antiskid malfunction, FCW and LDW lights illuminated. DTC Code 81-19. THis problem occurred over 2 week period. Dealer replaced ABS modulator.

  15. Power train, Nov 10, 2022, crash

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated while his father shifted the gear from park to drive, the vehicle accelerated at extreme speed without any warning, causing the vehicle to crash into the curb and two other vehicles, causing front-ended damages to the vehicle. The air bags deployed. The contact’s father was not injured but the passenger was injured and sought medical attention. No one else was injured. The contact was unsure if a police report was filed. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown. The consumer was requesting assistance with obtaining footage of the accident from Wells Fargo.

  16. Other or unspecified, Oct 29, 2022

Developed starter issues. Replaced starter. Still considerable loud grinding noises when starting.

  17. Electrical system, Engine, Oct 21, 2022

The vehicles ABS control module has been an issue with this vehicle. This needs to be recalled because A bad ABS module can behave erratically, making your brakes lock up even under normal braking, compromising my families safety. It was confirmed today at the Honda Dealership, in which I questioned, “How does this happen to a vehicle with less than 100k miles? If this is a safety concern why isnt there a safety recall?” At that time, the representative became unaware why there wasn’t a recall. The vehicle has been inspected by Honda. Yes, the vehicle light sensors are produced: BRAKE LIGHT ABS LIGHT TRACTION CONTROL POWER STEERING ALL THAT COMPROMISE SAFETY. PLEASE ASSIST.

  18. Other or unspecified, Oct 14, 2022

    I don’t have

  19. Electrical system, Sep 16, 2022

For the second time the starter needs to be replaced. First failure car had 33,097 miles on it. Now informed that I again need a new starter and car has 67,136 miles. First time the vehicle was just over 36 months and cost approximately nine hundred dollars to repair. Safety concern due to unreliability of vehicle leaving owner stranded and informed this is a common problem with this model.

  20. Service brakes, Hydraulic, Sep 8, 2022

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, several unknown warning lights remained illuminated on the instrument panel, related to the braking system failure. Additionally, while driving at various speeds, the front-end of the vehicle was vibrating. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the ABS module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,000.

  21. Steering, Sep 6, 2022

Power steering randomly goes out while the vehicle is in motion, sometimes on the interstate at high speed. Honda has "fixed" this 4 times and still has issues. Turning the car off and back on temporarily resolves the issue.

  22. Steering, Vehicle speed control, Service brakes, Sep 4, 2022, crash

Car occasionally experiences unintended acceleration. This happening today 9/4/2022. Car was brought to a complete stop. It suddenly accelerated while the foot was still on the brake, causing it to rear-end the car in front. Thankfully there no physical injuries reported (yet) We had experienced this a couple of time before. I had contact Honda as well as the local dealer and they cleared the car with no changes.

  23. Engine and engine cooling, Aug 29, 2022

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated while coming to a stop at a stop sign or stop light, the vehicle inadvertently stopped. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact also stated there was an engine oil consumption failure and corrosion and leakage, in addition to a catalytic converter failure. There were numerous oil changes performed and the battery was replaced five times. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer but was not diagnosed with a failure. The contact related the failure to Honda Service Bulletin 17-089. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 153,626.

  24. Electrical system, Engine, Aug 28, 2022

Several months ago, my Honda that has run very well up until now, started having problems with starting. I took it to Advance Auto and they thought it was the battery so I bought a new battery for over $200. That didn’t help. Then my husband noticed that the dashboard showed to push the brake, gas pedal and starter at the same time. That didn’t really help because sometimes it starts and sometimes doesn’t. We made an appointment at a local dealer where we purchased the car and the maintenance man suggested a new starter but reading through the complaints on here, that doesn’t always help. So he will cancel our appointment. With so many complaints on here about the car not starting, I think it’s your duty to come up with a resolution that works. Several times I have driven the car to places not near our home and the car won’t start. I think this is an unsafe condition and should be repaired!

  25. Electrical system, Aug 19, 2022
