Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2007-2011 CR-V vehicles that were sold, or ever registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin. An accumulation of road salt may cause the frame to corrode and possibly detach the rear trailing arm.
A detached rear trailing arm can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect and install a support brace or repair the rear frame, as necessary, free of charge. Depending on the extent of any corrosion damage, Honda may offer to repurchase the vehicle. Owner notification letters were mailed May 22, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is UE3.

HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 ACCORD, 2007-2010 CR-V, AND 2005-2008 ELEMENT PASSENGER CARS MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 1, 2004, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 3, 2010. THE OUTER RACE OF THE SECONDARY SHAFT BEARING MAY BE BROKEN DURING CERTAIN DRIVING STYLES. A BROKEN OUTER RACE MAY CAUSE ABNORMAL NOISE, THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT TO TURN ON, AND ALLOW CONTACT BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION IDLE GEAR AND AN ELECTRONIC SENSOR HOUSING WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION.
THIS COULD RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL. ADDITIONALLY, BROKEN PIECES OF THE OUTER RACE OR BALL BEARING FROM THE SECONDARY SHAFT MAY BECOME LODGED IN THE PARKING PAWL RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING AFTER THE DRIVER HAS PLACED THE GEAR SELECTOR IN THE PARK POSITION. ENGINE STALL AND UNEXPECTED VEHICLE MOVEMENT INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH OR PERSONAL INJURY TO PERSONS WITHIN THE PATH OF A ROLLING VEHICLE.
HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL UPDATE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 27, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AUTOMOBILE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.

VEHICLE FAILED STATE INSPECTION DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION IN THE REAR FRAME AND THE RISK OF THE REAR-TRAILING SEPARATING FROM THE FRAME AND LIKELIHOOD OF AN ENSUING ACCIDENT. THE INSPECTION STATION STRONGLY RECOMMENDED AGAINST REPAIR DUE TO THE STRESS POINT, AND INTEGRITY OF THE SURROUNDING STRUCTURES. I OPENED CASE # 10157114 WITH AMERICAN HONDA, AND THEY HAVE THE DOCUMENTATION OF THE ISSUE ALONG WITH PICTURES TAKEN BY AN AUTHORIZED HONDA DEALER. THIS SAME ISSUE WAS IDENTIFIED IN 2019 BY TRANSPORT CANADA RECALL # 2019025. HONDA CANADA'S STATEMENT REGARDING THE RECALL: "EXCESSIVE CORROSION TO THE REAR FRAME MAY RESULT IN FRAME STIFFENER PERFORATION AND, IN EXTREME CASES, CAUSE THE REAR-TRAILING ARM TO SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE'S FRAME STRUCTURE. A SEPARATED REAR-TRAILING ARM MAY CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO BE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." AMERICAN HONDA (USA) REFUSES TO RECOGNIZE THE ISSUE, AND INSISTS THIS IS ONLY A HONDA CANADA ISSUE. THE PROBLEM WITH THAT STANCE IS THAT CANADIAN PRODUCTION OF THE CR-V MODEL DID NOT BEGIN UNTIL THE 2012 MODEL YEAR. CR-VS FOR BOTH THE CANADIAN AND US MARKETS FOR THE 2007-2011 MODEL YEARS WERE PRIMARILY PRODUCED IN EAST LIBERTY, OH, USA AND SAYAMA, SAITAMA, JAPAN. THUS THE MANUFACTURING SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE FRAMES OF THE VEHICLES SUBJECT TO THE CANADIAN RECALL WILL EXACTLY MATCH THOSE SOLD IN THE USA AS THEY CAME OFF THE SAME PRODUCTION LINES. THE VEHICLE SUBJECT OF THIS COMPLAINT WAS ASSEMBLED AT THE JAPAN FACILITY.

WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, JUST COMING OFF THE HIGHWAY, I NOTICED MY CAR BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER, AND SAW MY BACK DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE AT A VERY STRANGE ANGLE. I CALLED THE TOW TRUCK. WE BOTH LOOKED UNDER THE CAR, AND IT APPEARED TO BE THAT THE ARM CAME DISLODGED FROM THE FRAME ON THAT SIDE DUE TO EXTENSIVE CORROSION. WHEN COMING HOME I GOOGLED THE ISSUE, AND SAW CANADA HAD A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, IN HUMID AREAS THAT USE SALT FOR DE-ICING. COASTAL NEW ENGLAND WOULD ALSO FALL UNDER THESE CONDITIONS, AS WOULD MANY OTHER NORTHERN AREAS OF THE UNITED STATES. THIS SHOULD ABSOLUTELY BE RECALLED HERE AS WELL. IF IT HAD HAPPENED 5 MINUTES SOONER, I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

DEAR NHTSA, I OWN 2007 CRV EX-L . I'M EXPERIENCING A PECULIAR PROBLEM IN MY CRV SOMETIMES THE DOOR GETS LOCKED AUTOMATICALLY OR WHEN WE TRY TO OPEN IT THROUGH REMOTE KEYS, DOOR GETS LOCKS IMMEDIATELY WITH IN A SECOND. ONE TIME MY KID WAS INSIDE AND ACCIDENTALLY I CLOSED THE DOOR AND IT GOT LOCKED. I WAS REALLY SCARED BUT LUCKILY AFTER FEW TRIES, IT GOT OPENED. I DON'T WANT TO THINK ABOUT IT, IF THIS HAPPENS IN A CRUCIAL TIME WHEN WE WANT TO OPEN THE DOOR AND ALL ARE INSIDE THE CAR.WHEN I SAID THIS TO MY FRIEND WHO OWNS 2008 CRV, HE SAID THAT HE IS ALSO HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND HE REFERRED ANOTHER FRIEND WHO HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. MY 2007 HONDA CR-V, PASSENGER DOOR LOCKS ITSELF IMMEDIATELY AFTER UNLOCK BY THE MAIN LOCK/UNLOCK SWITCH, KEY FOB OR THE MANUAL TAB IN THE DOOR. WE HAVE TO BE VERY PRECISE IN UNLOCKING AND PULLING THE DOOR AT THE SAME TIME. EVEN A SECOND DELAY COULD BRING THE BOOR BACK IN TO UNLOCK POSITION. THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS IN CASE OF FIRE OR ACCIDENT AS THE PASSENGER CAN NOT UNLOCK AND ESCAPE FROM THE VEHICLE. PLEASE LOOK IN TO IT. THANKS *TR

THE FIRST SIGN OF A DOOR LOCKING PROBLEM STARTED WITH MY REAR HATCH NOT OPENING. AS A SENIOR FEMALE I HAD TO STRUGGLE TO GET 10 40LB BAGS OF SMELLY WET FERTILIZER OVER THE PASSENGER SEATS AND OUT A PASSENGER DOOR. THE NEXT DAY I FOUND THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR DOES NOT LOCK AND THE LOCKS KEEP CLICKING AS YOU DRIVE. TWO HONDA DEALERS WE CALLED OFFER NOTHING BUT AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR. MY RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET TELLS ME AFTER DRIVERS PAY HONDA MANY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR THIS REPAIR THE PROBLEM RETURNS ON ANOTHER DOOR OR THE ACTUATOR THEY REPLACE FAILS AGAIN.THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD FOR BOTH A PASSENGER FALLING OUT OR A CRIMINAL GETTING IN AND ATTACKING SOMEONE OR STEALING THE CAR AND OR ITS CONTENTS. WHY IS NOTHING BEING DONE WHEN SO MANY PEOPLE ARE AT RISK.THIS IS NOT A POTENTIAL PROBLEM, IT IS AN EXISTING PROBLEM FOR CRV, CIVIC AND ACCORD DRIVERS. *TR
