Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2007-2011 CR-V vehicles that were sold, or ever registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin. An accumulation of road salt may cause the frame to corrode and possibly detach the rear trailing arm.
A detached rear trailing arm can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect and install a support brace or repair the rear frame, as necessary, free of charge. Depending on the extent of any corrosion damage, Honda may offer to repurchase the vehicle. Owner notification letters were mailed May 22, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is UE3.

HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 ACCORD, 2007-2010 CR-V, AND 2005-2008 ELEMENT PASSENGER CARS MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 1, 2004, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 3, 2010. THE OUTER RACE OF THE SECONDARY SHAFT BEARING MAY BE BROKEN DURING CERTAIN DRIVING STYLES. A BROKEN OUTER RACE MAY CAUSE ABNORMAL NOISE, THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT TO TURN ON, AND ALLOW CONTACT BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION IDLE GEAR AND AN ELECTRONIC SENSOR HOUSING WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION.
THIS COULD RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL. ADDITIONALLY, BROKEN PIECES OF THE OUTER RACE OR BALL BEARING FROM THE SECONDARY SHAFT MAY BECOME LODGED IN THE PARKING PAWL RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING AFTER THE DRIVER HAS PLACED THE GEAR SELECTOR IN THE PARK POSITION. ENGINE STALL AND UNEXPECTED VEHICLE MOVEMENT INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH OR PERSONAL INJURY TO PERSONS WITHIN THE PATH OF A ROLLING VEHICLE.
HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL UPDATE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 27, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AUTOMOBILE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.

I AM A LOYAL HONDA OWNER ON MY THIRD HONDA, A 2007 CRV. THE CRV CAME WITH OEM TIRES, BRIDGESTONE DUELER H/T TO BE SPECIFIC. WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR I TOLD THE DEALER I DID NOT WANT SUCH POORLY RATED TIRES BUT WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO OPTION TO UPGRADE TO BETTER TIRES. I PUT UP WITH THESE BAD TIRES FOR 3 YEARS WITH NO PROBLEMS UNTIL MY LUCK RAN OUT THIS YEAR WHEN MY AREA RECEIVED SEVERAL SNOW STORMS. MY FIRST NEAR-MISS HAPPENED IN DECEMBER OF 2009 I GOT STUCK ON A VERY MINOR PATCH OF SNOW AND MY CAR NARROWLY AVOIDED SLIDING BACKWARDS INTO A CREEK JUST BEHIND ME THAT WAS ABOUT 10' DEEP. I SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THE TIRES RIGHT THEN BUT FAILED TO MAKE THE CONNECTION TO THE BAD TIRES AND BLAMED IT ON THE ROAD CONDITIONS. THE SECOND NEAR-MISS CAME THIS WEEK WHEN WE GOT A MAJOR SNOWSTORM AND MY BROTHER'S HOUSE LOST POWER AND HEAT. THE DAY AFTER THE STORM I TRIED TO DRIVE TO MY BROTHER'S HOUSE AND RESCUE HIM AND HIS FAMILY. I GOT JUST OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY ONTO THE SNOW COVERED STREET AND RIGHT AWAY GOT STUCK. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO MOVE MY CAR BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY BY THROWING DIRT UNDER ALL THE TIRES TO GET TRACTION. I PULLED BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND WAS AFRAID TO TRY AGAIN FOR 2 DAYS UNTIL THE SNOW SOFTENED UP A BIT. KEEP IN MIND THAT MY CRV IS ALL WHEEL DRIVE AND THE TIRES HAD LESS THAN 25,000 MILES ON THEM AND WERE NOT WORN OUT. IN BOTH CASES THE ALL WHEEL DRIVE WAS USELESS AND IN BOTH CASES LIVES WERE AT RISK. I PAID EXTRA TO GET THE ALL WHEEL DRIVE VERSION FOR JUST SUCH OCCASIONS AND I FEEL LET DOWN, TO SAY THE LEAST. TODAY BEING THE FIRST TIME I COULD GET TO A MAIN ROAD (BARELY) I HEADED TO THE NEAREST TIRE SHOP TO REPLACE THE HORRIBLE BRIDGESTONE H/T'S WITH BRIDGESTONE ALENZA'S, THEIR HIGHEST RATED TIRE FOR MY VEHICLE. I AM NOW ABLE TO DRIVE IN THE SAME SNOW WITH NO PROBLEM AT ALL. WHY IS HONDA ALLOWED TO PUT SUCH POOR TIRES ON THEIR CARS, AND WHY IS BRIDGESTONE ALLOWED TO SELL SUCH POOR TIRES? *TR

THE BACK PASSENGER'S SIDE WHEEL HAD A "HOT" SMELL COMING FROM IT. HONDA SERVICE DETERMINED I HAD A BRAKE PAD THAT HAD GOTTEN STUCK. BRAKE PAD WAS REPLACED, AS WELL AS FIXING THE ROTOR. THE SMELL CONTINUED. TOOK THE CAR BACK IN AND THEY CANNOT FIND ONE THING "RUBBING" THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS "HOT" SMELL. THEY ARE STUMPED. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR DUE TO THE STRONG SMELL, WONDERING IF SOMETHING IS GOING TO WEAR OUT OR CATCH ON FIRE. MANY INTERNET BLOGS HAVE SHOWN MANY, MANY HONDA OWNERS TO BE EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING. NO OTHER TIRES/WHEEL WELLS SMELL HOT - SOME OWNERS BELIEVE IT IS DUE TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM NEXT TO THE TIRE. *TR

BOTH THE LEFT SIDE OEM TIRES ON MY HONDA CRV 2007 MODEL BLEW UP ON ME WHILE CHANGING LANES. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING AND HAVE BEEN ROTATING THEM AS RECOMMENDED BY HONDA (ALL THE SERVICING ON THE VEHICLE WERE DONE AT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGH THE CAR). LUCKILY, I WAS ON A LOCAL ROAD AT 40 MPH SO I COULD KEEP MY CAR UNDER CONTROL. I HAVE LOOKED AT THE FORUMS AND HAVE FOUND THAT MANY OTHER 2007 CRV CUSTOMERS ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE ABNORMAL WEAR ON THEIR OEM (IN MY CASE CONTINENTAL) TIRES. I TOOK THE CAR TO A HONDA DEALER WHO RECOMMENDED THAT I SHOULD CHANGE ALL FOUR TIRES- WHICH COST ME CLOSE TO $1000. MY CAR ONLY HAD 29000 MILES ON IT. HONDA APPARENTLY BLAMES THE TIRE MANUFACTURER AND WANTS ITS CUSTOMERS TO COMPLAIN DIRECTLY TO THE TIRE MAKER. THIS IS ABSURD SINCE THEE ARE MANY COMPONENTS IN THE CAR THAT HONDA DID NOT MAKE ON ITS OWN. DOES IT EXPECT THE CUSTOMER TO LOCATE THE MAKER OF EACH COMPONENT TO COMPLAIN WHEN THINGS GO WRONG? THIS IS HONDA'S PROBLEM AND IT SHOULD COMPENSATE ITS EXISTING CUSTOMERS AND TAKE CORRECTIVE STEPS FOR THE NEW CARS. THERE IS THE DANGER OF PEOPLE LOSING CONTROL OF THEIR CARS IF SUCH AN INCIDENT HAPPENS ON A HIGHWAY.*TR

Parking brake, Aug 16, 2009
I BOUGHT A 2007 HONDA CRV AND WAS ALMOST RUN OVER BY IT TODAY. IT APPEARS THERE MIGHT BE A DEFECT WITH THE CAR. I HAD PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK. I LEFT IT ON SO THAT MY 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WOULD HAVE AIR CONDITIONING WHILE I WAS UNLOADING THE CAR AND PUTTING THINGS IN THE GARAGE (THIS PROCESS TOOK APPROX. 5 MINUTES). I THEN WENT TO THE BACK SEAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND GOT MY DAUGHTER OUT OF HER CAR SEAT. I THEN SHUT THE BACK DOOR AND OPENED THE PASSENGER DOOR TO GET SOMETHING OUT OF THE PASSENGER SEAT AND GRAB THE CAR KEYS WHICH WERE IN THE IGNITION. I TOOK THE KEYS OUT OF THE IGNITION AND THE CAR STARTED ROLLING BACK WARDS DRAGGING ME WITH IT...AS I WAS STUCK BEHIND THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. I WAS HOLDING THE KEYS IN MY HAND AND SCRAMBLING TO MAKE SURE THE CAR WAS IN PARK...IT WAS AND THE CAR KEPT ROLLING. IT EVENTUALLY STOPPED AFTER IT JUMPED UP ON THE CURB, BACKED INTO SEVERAL TREES AND HIT A STREET SIGN. MY QUESTION IS HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN WHEN THE CAR IS IN PARK? I WAS HOLDING THE KEYS IN MY HAND AS THE CAR WAS ROLLING BACKWARDS AND I DOUBLED CHECK TO MAKE SURE IT WAS IN PARK AS I WAS GETTING DRAGGED WITH THE CAR. ALTHOUGH MY LEG IS NOW BADLY BRUISED AND MY BUMPER IS MESSED UP; ALL IN ALL I CONSIDER MYSELF TO BE VERY LUCKY. HAD MY DAUGHTER STARTED WALKING BEHIND THE CAR VS. WALKING TOWARDS THE GARAGE SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I'M NOW TERRIFIED OF MY CAR.. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT HONDA CORPORATE SHOULD BE NOTIFIED OF THIS ISSUE TO ENSURE IT DOESN'T HAPPEN WITH SOMEONE ELSE AND RESULT IN A FAR WORSE OUTCOME. *TR

THIS IS THE THIRD WINTER WITH OUR 2007 HONDA CR-V AND THERE IS A HUGE DESIGN FLAW AFFECTING THE PROPER FUNCTIONING OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS DURING PRECIPITATION IN COLD WEATHER. THE SNOW AND ICE BUILDS UP IN THE LARGE WELL BENEATH THE WIPER BLADES,CAUSING THE WIPER BLADES TO GET STUCK ON THIS SNOW AND ICE, AS WELL AS THE FROZEN PRECIPITATION STICKING TO THE WIPER BLADES. WE HAVE TO CONSTANTLY STOP, GET OUT OF THE CAR AND BREAK UP THE ICE AND SNOW FROM THE WELL AND THE WIPER BLADES IN ORDER FOR THEM TO FUNCTION CORRECTLY AND SAFELY. IT'S OUTRAGEOUS THAT A CAR THAT CAN BE PURCHASED WITH 4WD, CLEARLY MEANT TO BE DRIVEN IN SNOWY AREAS, WOULD HAVE THIS SEVERE DESIGN FLAW! HONDA REALLY NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS FLAW WITH A DESIGN SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM THAT CAN BE INSTALLED ON THIS CAR! *TR

THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN OUR 2007 HONDA CR-V. IN WINTER PRECIPITATION CONDITIONS, THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPER FREEZES. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CLEAR IT WITHOUT GETTING OUT OF THE CAR AND CLEARING IT MANUALLY. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE WIPER RESTS BELOW THE WINDSHIELD AND THERE IS NO HEATING ELEMENT TO THAW A FROZEN WIPER AT ALL. THIS OCCURS EVERY TIME THERE IS PRECIPITATION BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURE. THIS CAUSES SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED VISIBILITY. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE PULLS TO THE RIGHT AND MAKES A LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHEN DRIVING IN REVERSE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES FOR THE FAILURE AND THEY CHANGED THE BRAKE OIL DIFFERENTIAL AND SUGGESTED THAT THE OIL BE CHANGED EVERY THREE TO FOUR THOUSAND MILES. THIS CORRECTED THE FAILURE TEMPORARILY, BUT THE GRINDING NOISE RECURRED A WEEK LATER AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN PULLING TO THE LEFT AGAIN. A REPORT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT A REPRESENTATIVE WILL INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN INSPECTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,804 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,000.

MY HONDA CRV 2007 IS MAKING NOISE WHEN IN REVERSE AND THEN TURNING ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO HONDA SERVICE CENTER BUT THEY SAID THEY HEAR IT BUT THEY TRIED ANOTHER 07 CRV AND THEY SAID IT DOES THE SAME SOUND. WE PERSONALLY TRIED ANOTHER 07 CRV TOO BUT THERE WAS NO SOUND HEARD. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CR-V. WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 40 MPH, THE CONTACT ENCOUNTERED AN ICE STORM AND THE ROAD CONDITIONS BECAME VERY SLIPPERY. HE FELT THE VEHICLE POWER SURGE AND PULL ITSELF FROM ONE DIRECTION TO THE OTHER. THERE WAS A SHIFT IN POWER FROM WHEEL TO WHEEL. THE VEHICLE HAD ALL-WHEEL DRIVE AND THE CONTACT COULD FEEL IT ATTEMPTING TO ACTIVATE. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED ALL OVER THE HIGHWAY. THE DEALER STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS AN ALL-WHEEL DRIVE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 20,000 UPDATED 02/05/09 *BF. UPDATED 02/09/09. *JB

2007 HONDA CRV TURNED OUT TO BE VERY BAD ON SNOW AND/OR ICE COVERED ROADS. REAR END FEELS LIKE IT WANTS TO KICK OUT TO THE RIGHT. TOOK IT TO BE SERVICED AND WAS TOLD THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FLUID NEEDED TO BE DRAINED AND THE CLUTCHES BURNISHED. DROVE BETTER AFTER THAT, 6 WEEKS LATER CAR MAKING NOISE LIKE A BEARING WAS GOING OUT. WAS TOLD THAT MY REAR TIRES WERE CUPPED DUE TO NOT HAVING ROTATED THEM. CAR HAD 20,000 MILES ON IT. SINCE TIRES WERE ALREADY RUINED, I WAITED TO TAKE IT IN AGAIN TILL 30,000 MILES. NOW THE FRONT TIRES WERE BALD IN THE CENTER AND REAR TIRES STILL CUPPED. THEY DRAINED THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FLUID AGAIN AND AGAIN BURNISHED THE CLUTCHES AS WELL AS PERFORMED THE 30K SUGGESTED MAINTENANCE. 4K MILES LATER, WHILE DRIVING ON BAD ROADS, THE REAR END ONCE AGAIN FEELS LIKE IT WANTS TO SLIDE OFF THE ROAD TO THE RIGHT. FEELS LIKE IT NEEDS A COUPLE HUNDRED POUNDS OF EXTRA WEIGHT IN THE REAR. OH, FORGOT TO MENTION, HAVE HAD THE TIRES REPLACED AND TODAY HAD IT ALIGNED. I HAVE HAD 2 OTHER HONDA'S (ACCORDS). VERY PLEASED, BUT ABSOLUTELY CAN'T STAND THIS CAR. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT. *TR

ON 2007 AND NEWER HONDA CRVS,, THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS ARE NOT CONVEX AS THE ARE ON MOST VEHICLE. THIS DESIGN DEFECT RESULTS IN A VERY LARGE BLIND AREA, ESPECIALLY ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, THAT IS STILL CAUSING NUMEROUS PROBLEMS AFTER 2 YEARS OF DRIVING DUE TO INABILITY TO SEE CARS DRIVING ANYWHERE CLOSE TO THE CAR. I HAVE DISCUSSED THIS SIGNIFICANT BLIND SPOT WITH SEVERAL OTHER CR-V OWNERS AND ALL HAVE FELT THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. *TR
