Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a power liftgate. An electrical short in the power liftgate module may lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off.
A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will relocate the power liftgate module and add a water shield. In addition, dealers will inspect for corrosion and replace the module and electrical connectors, if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner letters were mailed March 1, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 49A. This recall supersedes recalls 15V-393 and 15V-826. Vehicles repaired under the prior recalls will still need to have the new remedy performed.

Power train, driveline, differential unitJun 11, 2020
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Relative movement in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft may cause some input spline teeth to wear off, which may eventually cause a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU. If this occurs, power cannot be transferred between the front wheels and the transmission which results in a loss of drive while the vehicle is in motion and a loss of the Park function while stationary.
A loss of drive can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. A loss of the Park function can cause unintended vehicle rollaway which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
FCA US LLC will notify owners, and dealers will perform a software update that will maintain vehicle propulsion by engaging rear wheel drive and prevent rolling in Park by activating the electronic parking brake if a failed input spline occurs. This recall began July 14, 2020. Owners may contact FCA USA LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is W47.

Power train, automatic transmissionJun 13, 2019
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with 3.2L engines. In the event that a clutch becomes stuck in the transmission, the transmission software may shift the transmission to neutral.
An unexpected shift to neutral would result in a loss of drive, increasing the risk of crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the transmission software, free of charge. The recall began August 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is V69.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.
If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.
Chrysler will notify owners instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began February 14, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or Kidde customer service service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information. The transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, and as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral. On August 29, 2016 Chrysler added the 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles to this recall.
If the vehicle unexpectedly shifts to neutral, there is an increased risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module and the Transmission Control Module and if necessary replace the transaxle range sensor wire harness, free of charge. The recall began on November 7, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S55.

AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, VEHICLE WOULD ROUTINELY BECOME LOCKED INTO A SINGLE GEAR AND FAIL TO SHIFT BEYOND THAT POINT UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND THEN RESTARTED. UPON RESTART VEHICLE WOULD TRAVEL APPROX 10-15 MILES BEFORE VEHICLE WOULD AGAIN NOT SHIFT AND HAVE TO BE TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. THIS CYCLE REPEATED NUMEROUS TIMES AND ON SUBSEQUENT DAYS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WOBBLES AND SHAKES DUE TO A JERKY MOVEMENT WHEN IT SHIFT TO 2ND GEAR. IT DRIVES WITH JERK ALL THROUGHOUT 2ND GEAR TILL IT CHANGES INTO 3RD GEAR. Power train, Sep 30, 2014
TRANSMISSION SHIFTS HARD FROM 1ST TO 2ND, AND FROM 2ND TO 3RD. IT ALSO HAS A PRONOUNCED "WOBBLE AFTER IT SHIFTS FROM 1ST INTO 2ND GEAR, AND CONTINUES UNTIL IT SHIFTS HARD INTO 3RD GEAR AT ABOUT 20 MPH. AFTER A STOP WILL NOT GO INTO 1ST GEAR FOR A SECOND OR TWO, THEN ABRUPTLY SURGES FORWARD WITH MORE SPEED THAN THE AMOUNT OF ACCELERATOR YOU ARE GIVING IT. WHEN DECELERATING, THE TRANSMISSION WILL ACTUALLY GO INTO 4TH GEAR AND ADD FUEL CAUSING THE TACHOMETER TO GO UP BETWEEN 500 AND 1000 RPM. THE TRANSMISSION ALTHOUGH TOUTED AS A "9 SPEED", IS USELESS, AS IT WILL NOT GO IN EITHER AUTOMATICALLY OR MANUALLY AT ANY SPEED BELOW 75 OR 76 MPH EVEN THOUGH IT EASILY COULD AT 67 OR 68 MPH WITH SUFFICIENT RPM TO STILL MAINTAIN SPEED. THIS JEEP IS EQUIPPED WITH THE TOWING PACKAGE FROM THE FACTORY. TOWING A 17' BOAT TRAVELING OVER 300 MILES, THE CAR RAN NORMALLY ON THE WAY TO THE DESTINATION SHIFTING WHEN IT NEEDED TO AND EVEN GOING INTO 8TH GEAR A GOOD DEAL OF THE TRIP. ON THE RETURN TRIP, THE TRANSMISSION REFUSED TO SHIFT OUT OF 5TH GEAR EVEN THOUGH THE TACH WAS REGISTERING 3K TO 4K RPM EVEN WHEN GOING DOWNHILL. IT ALSO SEEMED TO BE LOSING POWER AND HAVING DIFFICULTY GOING UP SLIGHT GRADES ON THE INTERSTATE. A FEW TIMES I GOT IT INTO 7TH GEAR BY COMPLETELY LETTING UP ON THE GAS GOING DOWNHILL BUT AS SOON AS WE STARTED UP A SLIGHT GRADE IT WOULD AGAIN GO INTO 5TH AND NOT SHIFT INTO A HIGHER GEAR. WHEN I REPORTED THESE PROBLEMS TO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS NORMAL OPERATION FOR THIS TRANSMISSION / VEHICLE. I'VE NEVER HAD A CAR THAT DID THESE THINGS AND COULD BE CALLED "NORMAL OPERATION". I FEEL THIS TRANSMISSION IS A CLEAR DANGER TO ALL WHO HAVE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE, AND THE NHTSA REALLY NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS AND HAVE CHRYSLER DO SOMETHING SOON TO RECTIFY THESE PROBLEMS BEFORE MAJOR ACCIDENTS, INJURIES, AND DEATH ARE THE OUTCOME. *TR

Power train, Engine, Sep 28, 2014
WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (68 MPH) AND SLOWING DOWN, THE GEARS ON THE 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE DOWNSHIFTED, RESULTING IN AN INCREASE IN SPEED, DESPITE PRESSURE BEING APPLIED TO THE BRAKES. THIS OCCURS WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WHEN BRAKING CHANGE GEARS FROM 4TH TO 5TH GEAR. THE SHIFT INTO 4TH GEAR IS FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY A 500+ RPM INCREASE IN THE ENGINE. IF HEAVY, CONSISTENT PRESSURE IS NOT APPLIED TO THE BRAKE, THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE 1-2 MPH. IF HEAVY, CONSISTENT PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE, THE CAR SHIFTS VIOLENTLY AND THE CAR "LURCHES" FORWARD DUE TO THE INCREASE IN RPM. *TR

WHEN SLOWING DOWN FROM ANY SPEED FOOT OFF GAS PEDAL VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATES. HAPPENS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. EVEN PUT TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL COMING TO STOP AND IT STILL ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN. AT EVERY STOP AND CORNER JUST TAKES OFF. YESTERDAY ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS STOPPED AND THE JEEP DECIDED TO ACCELERATE. HAD IT AT DEALER ON 9/12/14 FOR SERVICE. JEEP DID TRANNY UPDATE BUT DID NOTHING. HEAD OF SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID I JUST NEEDED TO DRIVE IT TO WORK ITSELF OUT. I THOUGHT HE WAS JOKING BUT HE WAS ACTUALLY SERIOUS! I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND FINALLY GOT IT IN TO BE LOOKED AT IN JUNE, THEY TOLD ME THE FRONT AXLES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHICH WAS DONE ON JULY 9TH (I THINK THAT IS THE RIGHT DATE), WITHIN TWO WEEKS IT STARTED THE SAME THING AGAIN, I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP LAST WEEK AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT AXLES WERE THE PROBLEM AND THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THEM. I JUST GOT BACK FROM HAVING THE FRONT AXELS REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME AND THIS JEEP IS NOT EVEN A YEAR OLD. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND ANY PASSENGER THAT I MAY CARRY WITH ME. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW SO THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE THIS CONCERN AS MY TWO CHILDREN LIVE STATES AWAY FROM ME AND MY HUSBAND PASSED AWAY IN NOVEMBER 2013, I AM TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE FORGETTING MYSELF TO AND FROM WORK AND VISITING MY CHILDREN. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS COMMON FOR THIS VEHICLE AND IF I NEED TO HAVE THESE FEARS FOR MY SAFETY. THANK YOU *TR

SIMILAR TO WHAT OCCURRED WITH THE OTHER POSTS, ON SATURDAY MY CAR STALLED WHILE AT A STOP SIGN. DISABLED, THE ENGINE LIGHT AND THE SERVICE TRANSMISSION INDICATOR CAME ON THE DASHBOARD. FOLLOWING THE ADVICE OF SOME HELPFUL GENTLEMEN, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME. ON SUNDAY, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST REPORTEDLY STATED IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION AND THEN A SUBSEQUENT CALL IDENTIFIED THE ISSUE AS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. I PICKED THE REPAIRED CAR UP AS DIRECTED AND THEN THE CAR STALLED. I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED AS THE CAR WAS DISABLED WITH THE HAZARD LIGHTS. I MANAGED TO COAST THE CAR INTO A PARKING LOT BY USING THE ADVICE OF THE GENTLEMEN AND THEN CALLED THE DEALER, THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE CAR ABRUPTLY STALLED. THIS TIME IT WOULD NOT START FOR ME TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPACE. I WAS ASKED TO DRIVE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER, I REFUSED. AFTER SPEAKING TO THE GENERAL MANAGER OF SALES, THE DEALER SENT TWO PEOPLE TO BRING THE CAR BACK AND THE PERSON DRIVING MY CAR STATED IT STALLED TWICE BUT HE KNEW HOW TO GET THE CAR GOING. MONDAY I MISSED WORKED, TUESDAY THEY PROVIDED A RENTAL, TODAY I PICKED UP THE CAR, AND TONIGHT I AM IN A DEALER'S RENTAL THAT WILL NEED TO BE EXCHANGED FOR ANOTHER RENTAL TOMORROW. THIS HAS BEEN A TAXING EXPERIENCE THAT IS NOT EXPECTED FOR A CAR THAT WAS PURCHASED NEW AT THE END OF APRIL. THIS IS MY SECOND JEEP BUT FROM WHAT I AM READING, THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS CAR THAT NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION. *TR

THIS EXACT SCENARIO HAPPENED 4 TIMES BETWEEN 6/5/14-9/16/14. -- I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH ON THE WAY TO WORK. ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR MADE A CHIME SOUND (AS IF A DOOR WAS OPENED) AND MY CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN, AS IF I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS. MY DASH HAD MANY LIGHTS COME ON (PRETTY MUCH ALL OF THE SENSOR LIGHTS) AND IT SAID "SERVICE PARK BREAK" AND "SERVICE TRANSMISSION" MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AS WELL. I CAN ASSURE YOU MY PARK BREAK WAS NOT ON! I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SINCE PRESSING ON THE GAS WAS NOT HELPING ME MOVE FORWARD. MY CAR NEVER ACTUALLY SHUT OFF ON IT'S OWN, IT JUST LOST POWER, AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, LET IT SIT A MINUTE AND STARTED IT UP AGAIN. THE SAME LIGHTS WERE ON AND IT SAID SERVICE TRANSMISSION. I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND HEARD A CLUNKING SOUND. THE "D" IN THE SHIFTER WAS ALSO BLINKING. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AGAIN AND LET IT SIT A LITTLE LONGER. I TRIED IT AGAIN AND WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE THERE WAS NO CLUNKING SOUND BUT WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BREAK I STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS AS IF I WAS IN NEUTRAL. I LIVE IN A RURAL AREA SO ALL OF THIS WAS OCCURRING ON A 2 LANE ROAD WITH LITTLE TO NO SHOULDER AT 7:15AM, SO THE TRAFFIC WAS AT ITS HEAVIEST. IT WAS VERY SCARY BECAUSE I HAD NO WARNING AND NEITHER DID THE CARS BEHIND ME. MY CAR LITERALLY JUST STARTED TO SLOW OUT OF NO WHERE. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED TWICE BECAUSE OF THIS. I THEN DECIDED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE THAT HAPPENED WITH THE OTHER 3 TIMES, IS THAT I WAITED LONG ENOUGH FOR THE CAR TO ENGAGE ONCE I PUT IT IN DRIVE. SO I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE MYSELF TO THE DEALER THOSE TIMES. I PLAN ON TAKING THIS TO JEEP/CHRYSLER AS WELL. *TR
