Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a power liftgate. An electrical short in the power liftgate module may lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off.
A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will relocate the power liftgate module and add a water shield. In addition, dealers will inspect for corrosion and replace the module and electrical connectors, if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner letters were mailed March 1, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 49A. This recall supersedes recalls 15V-393 and 15V-826. Vehicles repaired under the prior recalls will still need to have the new remedy performed.

Power train, automatic transmissionApr 27, 2023
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles. The power transfer unit (PTU) may become damaged and disengage the transmission and differential, resulting in a loss of drive power or loss of park function.
A loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash. A loss of park function can cause an unintended vehicle rollaway which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
FCA US LLC will notify owners, and dealers will perform a software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 11, 2023. Owners may contact FCA USA LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is 45A. This recall expands previous recall number 20V-343.

Power train, driveline, differential unitJun 11, 2020
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Relative movement in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft may cause some input spline teeth to wear off, which may eventually cause a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU. If this occurs, power cannot be transferred between the front wheels and the transmission which results in a loss of drive while the vehicle is in motion and a loss of the Park function while stationary.
A loss of drive can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. A loss of the Park function can cause unintended vehicle rollaway which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
FCA US LLC will notify owners, and dealers will perform a software update that will maintain vehicle propulsion by engaging rear wheel drive and prevent rolling in Park by activating the electronic parking brake if a failed input spline occurs. This recall began July 14, 2020. Owners may contact FCA USA LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is W47.

Electrical system, wiringMay 17, 2018
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.
If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.
Chrysler will notify owners instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began February 14, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or Kidde customer service service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information. THE AUTOMATIC STOP SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING. THE CAR TURNS OFF WHEN I STOP AND I LOSE ALL POWER. IT HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME I STOP. IT IS SCARY BECAUSE I LOSE ALL POWER. THE A! LIGHT POPS UP WHEN THE CARS RESTARTS AND THEN IT DISAPPEARS WHEN I TURN THE CAR ON AND BACK OFF. OTHER SENSORS POP UP FOR THE TRANSMISSION POWER STEERING AND 4 WHEEL DRIVE LIKE SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE SENSOR SYSTEM OR THE AUTOMATIC START SYSTEM NOT SURE WHAT THE ISSUE IS BUT IT'S SCARY
Power train, Engine, May 29, 2018
TWO ISSUES (MAY BE RELATED) FIRST SAFETY ISSUE IS WHEN DRIVING IN HIGHER GEARS AND GAS IS NOT MAINTAINED THE TRANSMISSION CUTS OFF AND IT CAN ONLY IDLE WITH RPMS ABLE TO GO AS HIGH AS 2000 RPMS WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO GAIN SPEED. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THAT WHEN USING CRUISE CONTROL THE VEHICLE WILL INCREASE SPEED WITHOUT ADJUSTING WHEN GOING DOWN A GRADE TO SPEEDS WELL OVER CRUISING SPEED. BOTH ISSUES HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK AND MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF! IT HAD 14500 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE SYSTEM HAD JUST STARTED TELLING ME THE OIL WAS DUE TO BE CHANGED, IT WAS GOING TO BE THE 4TH OIL CHANGE. AFTER 15 MINUTES THE CAR JUST RESTARTED LIKE NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. AFTER A LITTLE GOOGLE SEARCHING I DECIDED TO CHECK THE OIL AND THE DIPSTICK HAD JUST A SLIGHT TRACE OF OIL..I CALLED THE DEALER QUESTIONED THEM AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT TAKEN IT IN FOR SERVICE SINCE THEY JUST SAY THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I NOW CHECK MY OIL EVERY 2000 MILES SO IT DOESN'T RUN LOW CAUSING AN ENGINE PROBLEM THAT WILL BE MY FAULT.

MY TRANSMISSION IS STARTING TO SLIP, MOSTLY WHEN I'M DRIVING AT A SLOWER SPEED; IS THAT NORMAL FOR A CAR I HAVEN'T EVEN HAD FOR 2 YEARS? I'M WONDERING IF THERE IS A RECALL ON SOMETHING THAT COULD BE MAKING IT DO THIS? I'M WORRIED; I'LL NEED TO GET IT LOOKED AT FOR SURE.

THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF ON MY WIFE AND CHILD WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING IT ON THE HIGHWAY, AND WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS LOW ON OIL AND THEY DID AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND CLEARED THE VEHICLE AND SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE TO DO OIL CONSUMPTION TEST BEFORE CHRYSLER WILL ISSUE A REPLACEMENT MOTOR, AFTER 2 MONTHS OF THE TEST THEY CONCLUDED THAT IT WAS OK AND SAFE TO DRIVE. THE ISSUE HAPPEND AGAIN WITH MY WIFE AND CHILD IN THE CAR AND DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, SHE MADE IT BACK HOME AND THE MOTOR WAS OUT OF OIL 3,000 MILES BEFORE HER NEXT OIL CHANGE. I GOT IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE TO DO THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST PROCESS AGAIN.
Other or unspecified, Engine, May 15, 2018
THE CAR WOULD STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THIS HAPPENED BEFORE, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS DUE TO LOW/DIRTY OIL LEVEL, THEY DID THE OIL CHANGE AND IT WAS FINE FOR A WHILE. THIS MORNING THE CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, I HAVE ABOUT 5,000 MILES ON THE CAR SINCE LAST MAINTENANCE, BUT WHEN I CHECKED THE OIL CHANGE INDICATOR, IT SHOWED THAT I STILL HAVE ABOUT 36%.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE RPMS INCREASED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SLOWED DOWN. ALSO, THE VEHICLE SHOOK AFTER IT ACCELERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SUN LAND PARK DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM (950 CROCKETT ST, EL PASO, TX 79922) ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS TO BE REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE DIAGNOSIS INFORMATION WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.

SEVERAL TIMES NOW IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS WHEN I START TO ACCELERATE, THE JEEP "JUMPS". ALMOST LIKE ITS SLIPPING OR TRYING TO JUMP GEARS. IT'S VERY SCARY, AND I'M AFRAID OF IT JUMPING WHEN I LEAST EXPECT IT AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHICH I DO NOT NEED IN MY CONDITION. AND I JUST RECENTLY REALIZED THAT THE START/STOP FUNCTION HAS NOT BEEN WORKING, WHICH I BELIEVE MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT,I ASKED MY DEALER TO CHECK IT AND THEY GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND. THEN SOMEONE OVER HEARD ME TALKING AND SAID THEY HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. SO I GOOGLED IT AND THERE HAS BEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FOR THE EXACT SAME THING ALL OVER THE I INTERNET! WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO HAVE THIS SERIOUSLY CHECKED OUT FOR A RECALL? HOW MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME ISSUE DOES IT TAKE FOR SOMETHING TO BE DONE? I AM DISABLED AND CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION THAT'S ONLY 2 YRS OLD! AND NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO ESPECIALLY IF IT'S A DEFECT WHICH IT APPEARS TO BE. PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS SITUATION IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. THANK YOU SO MUCH,
Other or unspecified, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, May 14, 2018
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON ONCE IN TWO WEEKS. MY LOCAL DEALER IN SAN DIEGO (RANCHO CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE) SAID THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH ENGINE GAS VALVE. THEY SAID IT WAS LEAKING. EACH TIME THIS IS THE ISSUE. THIS IS MY 4TH TIME GOING TO THE DEALER. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT ITS VERY RISKY FOR PASSENGERS TO DRIVE SUCH CARS WITH LEAKS. I REQUEST NHTSA TEAM TO PLEASE REVIEW ALL JEEP CHEROKEE MODELS AS THEY NEED RE-CALLS AND ITS UNSAFE FOR PUBLIC TO DRIVE SUCH LEAKY VEHICLES. I WAS VERY AFRAID WHEN I WAS TURNING ON HIGHWAY AND MY CAR STARTED NOISE AS IF SOMETHING IS BURSTING, IT WAS VERY FRIGHTENING MOMENT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE "SWITCH TO NEUTRAL" WARNING MESSAGE APPEARED AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. AFTERWARDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED. NEW HOLLAND JEEP IN NEW HOLLAND, PA WAS CONTACTED AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 250.

2016 JEEP CHEROKEE HAS TWICE STALLED WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 30 MPH. LOSE ALL POWER. FIRST TIME , 21,218 MILES, DEALER SAID PROBABLY LOW ON OIL, BUT OIL CHANGE WAS NOT OVERDUE AND NO INDICATOR LIGHTS EVER SHOWED. THEY DID OIL CHANGE AND THEN CHECKED CAR AT NEXT OIL CHANGE, THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING. AT 30,930 MILES, CAR STALLED AGAIN DRIVING 30 MPH OUT OF NOWHERE. BARELY ABLE TO GET TO SIDE OF ROAD. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. DEALER AGAIN SAID OIL ISSUE AND WE ARE ADVISED TO RETURN TO DEALER IN 1000 MILES TO DO AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. IN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE THAT NO ONE SEEMS TO GET RESOLVED. DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF ISSUE, BUT A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED ISSUE.

I'VE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR THREE WEEKS. I PARKED MY CHEROKEE OUTSIDE MY OFFICE AT WORK, SHUT IT OFF AS NORMAL, AND CAME BACK OUT A FEW HOURS LATER TO RUN SOME ERRANDS. I RECEIVED A MESSAGE THAT STATED 'NO FOB DETECTED'. I TRIED THE AUTO START, WHICH WORKED, THE LOCK AND UNLOCK FROM THE KEY FOB WORKED, BUT WHEN I TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE THE ONLY MESSAGE RECEIVED WAS 'NO FOB DETECTED'. I CALLED JEEP AND THEY TRIED TO WALK ME THROUGH A RESET, WHICH DID NOT WORK. AAA CAME OUT TO TRY TO ASSIST. THEY DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY, TRIED JUMPING THE VEHICLE, AND PERFORMED THE RESET AS WELL. NONE OF THIS WORKED. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AM STILL WAITING ON DIAGNOSTICS TO TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT AND HOW MUCH IT WILL COST TO FIX.
Structure, May 1, 2018
I CAME OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY AND STARTED DOWN THE ROAD (35MPH) AND ALL OF A SUDDEN WITHOUT ANY INDICATION MY PANORAMIC SUNROOF EXPLODED AND SHATTERED ALL OVER THE CAR. THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES ON THIS ROAD, THE ROAD WAS PAVED WITH NO POTHOLES. THE TEMPERATURE WAS ANYWHERE BETWEEN 55-65 AND THE INSIDE OF THE JEEP WAS AT A CONTROLLED TEMPERATURE.
Engine, Apr 28, 2018
WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE CUT OUT. I DRIFTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED IT. THERE WASN'T ANY MESSAGE THERE WAS A PROBLEM. IT WAS FINE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND THEN WHILE DRIVING TO WORK THE SAME THING HAPPEN AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE WITHOUT BEING HIT. ON CHECKING THE INTERNET IT SHOWED OTHERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND WAS RELATED TO OIL. . CHECKED OIL AND IT WAS LOW. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONFIRMED THE 2.4 CUTS OFF EVEN IF THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION WITH NO WARNING WHEN OIL IS LOW. NO ONE EVER TOLD ME THIS. HAD I BEEN ON A BUSIER MULTI LANE ROAD I MAY HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE NEVER NEEDED TO CHECK MY OIL BETWEEN SERVICE ON A NEWER CAR BEFORE THIS IS AN UNSAFE DEFAULT TO LOW OIL. IT PUTS THE DRIVER AND PUBLIC IN DANGER. HAD I BEEN TOLD THE VEHICLE MAY SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING I WOULD NEVER HAVE BOUGHT THE CAR. I CANT BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE THIS AS A FEATURE WITH NO WARNING.

MY 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE HAS LESS THAN 30000 MILES ON IT. IT SHIFTS EXTREMELY ROUGH FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE. THE ENGINE HAS A LOUD TICKING AT IDLE.
Power train, Apr 10, 2018
ON 6 SEPARATE OCCASIONS I'VE HAD AN ANNUNCIATION ON THE DRIVER INSTRUMENT DISPLAY OF 'SERVICE SHIFTER' WITH ASSOCIATED RED ILLUMINATION OF ALL SHIFT POSITIONS OF P,R,N,D ACCOMPANIED BY A SINGLE CHIME. THE DRIVER INSTRUMENT DISPLAY REMAINS FROZEN ON 'SERVICE SHIFTER' AND ANY ATTEMPT TO CHANGE PAGES TO CHECK FOR STORED MESSAGES IS NOT ACKNOWLEGED UNTIL THE CAR IS SHUTDOWN, THEN RESTARTED. NO FAULTS APPEAR WHEN STORED MESSAGES ARE REVIEWED. ONCE RESTARTED THE MESSAGE 'SERVICE SHIFTER' IS CLEARED. THERE APPEARS TO BE NO COMMONALITY BETWEEN EACH REOCCURING EPISODE. ONCE IT CAME ON AFTER START, THE REST WHILE I WAS DRIVING BETWEEN 30MPH AND 50MPH AFTER SOMETIME IN A STRAIGHT LINE ON URBAN STREETS AND SECONDARY HIGHWAYS. MILEAGE IT FIRST CAME ON WAS 16014 THEN 18875, 20949, 21225, 21422 AND FINALLY 24216(JUST AS I WAS PULLING INTO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE). JEEP SERVICE PROVIDED LITTLE INFORMATION ON THE PROBLEM AND RELEASED THE CAR TO ME. MY ONLINE RESEARCH SHOWED SEVERAL JEEPS, DIFFERENT MODELS, ON THE JEEP FORUM WITH THE SAME MALADY AS FAR BACK AS 2014. AS OF THIS DATE MY JEEPS' SOFTWARE IS UP-TO-DATE WITH NO RECALLS.

MY JEEP CHEROKEE SPORT 2016 GOT STUCK IN A GEAR AND WOULD NOT SHIFT. THE SERVICE TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON AND THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING. IT HAPPENED 5 TIMES ON MY WAY HOME FROM A ROAD TRIP AND WAS VERY DANGEROUS. THE JEEP APPARENTLY NEEDS A SOFTWARE UPDATE AND I BELIEVE I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR THAT. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 30K MILES ON IT.

I WAS DRIVING TO TOWN AND THE LOW OIL PRESSER LIGHT CAME ON I GET OFF THE ROAD THEN MY CAR DIED I WAS NOT ABLE TO RESTART IT. I CHECKED THE OIL AND IT WAS EMPTY? I PUT 2 QUARTS OF OIL IN IT AND THEM IT STATED RIGHT UP. I TOOK IT TO THE CAR LOT THE NEXT DAY AND THERE WAS ONLY 1 QUART OF OIL IN IT. AT THIS TIME I HAD ONLY DROVE IT 23 MILES SINCE I HAD PUT THE OIL IN THERE, THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOT ANY LEAKS AND THAT THEY WOULD FILL IT UP AND FOR ME TO COME BACK IN A WEEK. I REALLY HOPE THAT I CAN MAKE IT A WEEK WITH THE OIL THEY PUT IN THERE I HAVE SET THE MILLAGE THING IN THE CAR TO 0 AND I WILL SEE HOW MANY MILES I DRIVE AND IF IT IS OUT OF OIL WHEN I GO BACK.

THE AUTOMATIC LIGHTING HAD BEEN SWITCHING BETWEEN DAY AND NIGHT MODE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. THEN WHILE DRIVING, WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR CAME TO A STOP AND GAVE A MESSAGE "YOU MUST BE IN PARK BEFORE SHIFTING GEARS". THE ENGINE THEN STOPPED. THIS OCCURRED IN A ROTARY, LUCKILY ON A QUIET STREET. AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AND IT APPEARED FINE.
