Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleOct 17, 2013
Chrysler Group, LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured January 8, 2013, through August 20, 2013. Due to a disruption of computer communications and loose alternator ground wires, the affected vehicles may experience random illumination of multiple instrument cluster warning lights, loss of cluster illumination and loss of anti-lock brake system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) function. Because of these conditions, the vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 101, "Controls and Displays," and No. 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."
A loss of ABS and ESC function reduces the driver's ability to control the vehicle. Drivers would not be warned of brake system failures or any other failures which would be illuminated on the dashboard display. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the ABS and instrument cluster module software and tighten the alternator ground wire, free of charge. The recall began on November 19, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N58.

Without properly functioning parking lamps these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."
Without parking lamps, the vehicle may not be as visible to other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the Central Body Controller software, free of charge. The recall BEGAN ON September 12, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N42.

WHILE TRAVELING HOME FROM A FAMILY VACATION AT ABOUT 40 MPH MY SEAT BELT LIGHT STARTED FLASHING SAYING THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR SEAT BELT WAS NOT ENGAGED ALONG WITH THE LIGHTS AND DINGING ALARM SAYING THAT THE AIR BAG IS IN NEED OF SERVICE, THIS HAS NOT GONE OFF AND THE DINGING IS CONSTANT. I CALLED AND SET UP AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WAITED 4 HOURS FOR THEM TO TELL ME THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE ISSUE THAT IT WAS ON BACK ORDER (AT LEAST 1 1/2 WEEKS) BUT WOULD NOT BE PROVIDING A RENTAL CAR SINCE THE CAR WAS STILL DRIVE ABLE AND THAT THEY WOULD CALL WHEN THE PART WAS IN. I AM VERY UPSET BECAUSE I AM IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY AND KNOW THAT THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN/ RISK. I HAVE ALSO BEEN EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH MY TRANSMISSION. I REGRET MAKING THIS PURCHASE. *TR

I HAVE A LONG NARROW DRIVEWAY WITH A BIT OF A SLOPE TOWARD THE HOUSE. WHEN GOING OUT THE DRIVEWAY I SEEN A TRASH CONTAINER TIPPED OVER. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, LETTING IT IDLE, WHILE I EXITED THE VEHICLE TO REMOVE THE CONTAINER. LOOKING BACK I SEEN THE JEEP BACKING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY TOWARD THE HOUSE UNDER IT'S OWN POWER. I TRIED CATCH IT,BUT IT HIT THE SIDE OF THE HOME ON A GARAGE WALL. TOTAL DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE IS AROUND $9400 I'VE YET TO GET THE HOUSE DAMAGE ESTIMATE BACK. I DIDN'T SEE IF THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK OR REVERSE WHEN I EXITED. I PUSHED THE SHIFTER CLEAR FORWARD TILL IT STOPPED, THEN EXITED. THE SHIFTER HAS TO GO THRU REVERSE BEFORE IT GETS TO PARK. IN THE PAST I'VE NOTICED THAT IT DID NOT ALWAYS GO INTO PARK WHEN I HAD PUT IT THERE. I DRIVE LIKE NORMAL PEOPLE DRIVE. I HAVE 55+ YEARS OF DRIVING EXPERIENCE. WE SHIFT BY FEEL AND NOT ALWAYS LOOKING DOWN AT THE SHIFTER. WHEN A SHIFT LEVER GOES THRU THE MOTION FORWARD AND STOPS, WE EXPECT IT TO BE IN PARK, NOT REVERSE. THIS IS A MAJOR FLAW IN THE VEHICLE. I LOVE THE NEW 8 SPEED TRANSMISSION, BUT DON'T TRUST THE SHIFTING MECHANISM. MY WIFE IS VERY RELUCTANT TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. I'VE CONTACTED CHRYSLER ABOUT THE ISSUE. THEY SEEM CONCERNED AND ARE WANTING TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE WHEN REPAIRED. HOWEVER, I'M NOT CERTAIN, HEARING ABOUT OTHER ISSUES WITH VEHICLES, WHETHER THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO BLOW SMOKE UNTIL I QUITE DOWN. I DID OBTAIN A LEG INJURY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE. NOT SERIOUS, BUT SURELY COULD HAVE BEEN. HAD THERE BEEN A CHILD, PET OR OTHER PERSON BEHIND THE VEHICLE, IT COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS. THERE NEEDS TO BE A FIX TO THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER THAT WORKS FOR STATE FARM INSURANCE. THEY'VE ALSO HAD SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. THERE'S NOT DETENT IN THE SHIFTING, IT JUST GOES FORWARD AND STOPS. ALL ELECTRONIC, NOT MECHANICAL AS THEY USED TO BE.

2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE BRAKING PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WATER ENTERED THE BRAKE BOOSTER, WHICH CAUSED IT TO FREEZE AND REDUCED BRAKING PERFORMANCE. CHRYSLER STATED THERE WAS CORROSION PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE BOOSTER, CAUSED BY A SMALL AMOUNT EXPOSED, UNCOATED SURFACE AT THE CRIMP JOINTS, THAT ALLOWED WATER TO ENTER THE BOOSTER AND FREEZE. CHRYSLER STATED IF WATER DID NOT ENTER THE BOOSTER, THERE COULD STILL BE A LOSS OF VACUUM THAT WOULD REQUIRE THE DRIVER TO PUSH HARDER THAN NORMAL TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE. A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM WAS TO USE A SHIELD TO KEEP WATER FROM GETTING INTO THE UNIT. *JB UPDATED 06/11/14

NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALONG WITH A LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON, CAR DID NOT WANT TO SHIFT OR SPEED UP, GOT OFF THE ROAD AND HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WAITING TO BE REPAIRED AGAIN. *TR

OUR JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS BEEN HAS BEEN HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. SEVERAL DIFFERENT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS OCCUR AFTER WHICH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE. OF THESE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS THE DANGEROUS ONES INCLUDE: HEADLIGHTS SHUTTING OFF, DASHBOARD COMPLETELY SHUTTING, AND VEHICLE SHUT OFF WHILE IN MOTION. WE HAVE HAD THE FOLLOWING REPLACE IN OUR VEHICLE: BURNT WIRES IN OUR ENGINE HARNESS, FAULTY SOLENOID, ALTERNATOR, PCM, AND ABS MODULE. THE ISSUE STILL OCCURS. PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IN DEC WE'VE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE 3-4 TIMES. WHILE WE HAVEN'T FILED FOR LEMON LAW YET, JEEP PROMISED US THAT THEY WOULD TAKE A LOOK AT REPLACING OUR VEHICLE AFTER A NUMBER OF PROBLEM. THEIR ANSWER TO US WAS TO WAIT TO SEE IF THE ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN. WHILE WE MAY FILE FOR LEMON LAW, WE FEEL THAT IT WILL BE IMPORTANT THAT WE REPORT THESE ISSUES AS THEY ARE EXPERIENCED BY OTHER CONSUMERS ON FORUMS ACROSS THE INTERNET. *TR

PARKING VEHICLE AND PUTTING INTO PARK. EXITED THE VEHICLE AND CAR STARTED MOVING. SHIFTER WAS NOT IN PARK. VERY FUSSY SHIFTER. YOU CAN NOT TELL IT'S IN PARK UNLESS YOU LOOK EACH TIME. EVEN THOUGH YOU PUSH IT ALL THE WAY UP SOMETIMES IT IS NOT IN PARK. I HAD THE CAR START ROLLING SEVERAL TIMES AFTER EXITING THE CAR. *TR

ON 03/04/2014, THE VEHICLE, A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WAS OBSERVED TO HAVE EXTENSIVE RUST ON THE BRAKE ROTOR HUBS. THE RUST IS DETERIORATING THE PAINT EXPOSING THE METAL HUB TO SEVERE CORROSION. THIS MAY OVER TIME MINIMIZE THE SAFETY OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO SENT PHOTOS TO CHRYSLER DIGITAL IMAGING. CHRYSLER DENIED THE CLAIM UNDER WARRANTY STATING THAT THE CORROSION IS CONSIDERED NORMAL WEAR. THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 6200 MILES AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. *TR

THE CAR ALARM CONTINUES TO GO OFF ON ITS OWN. I HAVE ALREADY HAD A SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THE RADIO, PHONE PAIRING, ETC. HAVE TRIED TO SET THE ALARM REMOTELY BY PHONE, BY LOCKING VEHICLE FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND ALSO BY TOUCHING BUTTON ON DOOR HANDLE. NO MATTER HOW I LOCK THE VEHICLE THE SAME THING CONTINUES TO HAPPEN WITH THE ALARM GOING OFF. *TR

I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE, DROVE APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES WITH SAME ISSUE. I CALLED DEALER, THEY SAID TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR A WEEK OR SO, AND SEE IF IT FIXES ITSELF. *TR

THE HEADLIGHTS RETAIN MOISTURE OR ICE ON THE INTERIOR AREAS FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME WHILE DRIVING AND PARKED. THIS DEFINITELY BLOCKS THE LIGHT TRANSMISSION THROUGH TO THE EXTERIOR FOR PROPER AND SAFE DRIVING VISION. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES SINCE THE NOVEMBER INCIDENT AND I HAVE REPORTED TO CHRYSLER AND THE DEALERSHIP, GANDRUD IN GREEN BAY WI, EVERY TIME AND DOCUMENTED EACH WITH PICTURES OF THE EXACT PROBLEM. THE DEALER HAS PERFORMED THE SILLY TEST THAT CHRYSLER REQUIRES: HAVING THE VEHICLE SIT INDOORS HEATED FOR 20 MINUTES SO SEE IT THE WATER CLEARS. MINE DID NOT TOTALLY CLEAR AT ALL HOWEVER THE DEALER SAID IT WAS WITHIN THE "GUIDELINES" OF BEING OK BY CHRYSLER'S RULES. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I JUST PURCHASED A HIGHLY PRICED VEHICLE AND I SHOULD LEAVE IT SIT IN A HEATED GARAGE SO THE LIGHTS WORK! I DO BELIEVE CARS ARE MEANT TO BE DRIVEN ON THE ROAD IN THE DAY AND NIGHT. CHRYSLER CERTAINLY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE CUSTOMER WHO WORKS HARD TO PAY FOR THIS MACHINE THAT IS VERY FAULTY. I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED A JEEP AND AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS SAFETY ISSUE. IT MUST BE RESOLVED AND I WILL KEEP AT THIS UNTIL IT IS. I KNOW MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AS SEEN ON THE INTERNET. THE SECOND VISIBILITY ISSUE IS THE WIPERS AND THE WAY THE WINDSHIELD DEFROSTS. THE WIPERS ARE PLACED SO THAT THE ICE OR SNOW WHEN DRIVING STAYS FROZEN AND IS NOT HEATED TO DEFROST PROPERLY. I HAVE REPLACED THE WIPERS AFTER ONLY DRIVING FOR A FEW DAYS IN WINTER WEATHER! I COULD NOT SEE. THAT HELPED SOME BUT NOT THE DEFROST PROBLEM AS STATED. IT IS ALSO VERY HARD TO REMOVE THE SNOW AND ICE FROM THE FRONT AREA UNDER THE WIPERS. MY OLD 1999 JEEP HAD NONE OF THESE PROBLEMS. MY GRANDSON IS STILL DRIVING IT. PERHAPS I SHOULD ASK TO BORROW IT. CERTAINLY CHRYSLER ENGINEERS CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS. *TR
