Recalls and investigations

  1. Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleNov 7, 2024

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles. A malfunction in the antilock-brake system (ABS) module may incorrectly illuminate the brake lights and disable the ABS and electronic stability control (ESC). In addition, the vehicle operator may be able to start and shift out of Park without the brake pedal being applied.

A vehicle that can be started and shifted out of Park without applying the brake pedal can result in a vehicle rollaway. Disabled ABS and ESC systems can reduce vehicle handling and control in certain driving situations. Brake lights that incorrectly illuminate can fail to properly indicate the driver's intention to following traffic. Any of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the integrated pressure transducer and update the ABS module software, as necessary free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 16, 2025. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is 94B. This recall replaces previous recall number 22V-426. Vehicles previously remedied under 22V-426 will need to have the new remedy completed.

  2. Engine and engine coolingJun 8, 2023

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Ram 1500 and 2014-2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with 3.0L Diesel engines. The crankshaft position sensor tone wheel may delaminate, causing the engine to lose its ability to synchronize the fuel injector pulses and cam shaft timing, possibly resulting in an engine stall.

An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will update the powertrain control module software to maintain vehicle propulsion, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed August 3, 2023. Some owner notification letters were mailed October 31, 2023. The remaining owner notification letters will be mailed at a future date, anticipated July 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 66A. This recall is an expansion of recall 20V-475.

  3. Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleJun 9, 2022

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles. A malfunction in the antilock-brake system (ABS) module may illuminate the brake lights, and allow the vehicle to start and shift out of Park without the brake pedal being applied.

A vehicle that starts and shifts out of Park without applying the brake pedal can result in vehicle rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash without prior warning and/or injury to others outside of the vehicle.

This recall is replaced by NHTSA recall number 24V838. Vehicles already repaired under this recall will need to have the new remedy completed. The remedy includes updated HCU/ABS module software that prevents the HCU/ABS module from falsely reading pressure in the primary circuit. FCA has decided to do a two-Phase Campaign remedy schedule. Phase 1 began November 17, 2022. Phase 2 begin date has not been determined yet. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk were mailed July 28, 2020. Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and 2014-2019 Ram 1500 vehicles equipped with 3.0L diesel engines. A high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) failure may introduce internal debris into the fuel system, potentially resulting in fuel starvation.

Fuel starvation may result in an unexpected loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the HPFP, and inspect and replace, if necessary, additional fuel system components, free of charge. Interim notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed July 21, 2022. Owner notification letters for were mailed for Jeep Grand Cherokee owners starting January 11, 2024. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with the 3.0L EcoDiesel engines. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler may crack and allow pre-heated vaporized coolant to enter the EGR system. This mixture may combust inside the intake manifold.

Combustion in the intake manifold can increase the risk of a fire.

FCA US LLC will notify owners, and dealers will replace the EGR cooler, free of charge. Dealers will also inspect and, as necessary, replace the intake manifold. Parts are not currently available. Owners were mailed an interim notification on December 21, 2021. 7. Service brakes, Jul 14, 2020

THE OWNER NOTICED THE ROTORS LOOKED WORN OR "GOUGED" ON THE REAR BRAKES WHILE WASHING IT. HE TOOK IT IN TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS. MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE ENTIRE REAR BRAKING SYSTEM WAS NOT WORKING. THE CALIPERS WERE "FROZEN", THE PADS WERE COMPLETELY GONE, AND ROTORS HAD EXTENSIVE WEAR AND LOCKED INTO PLACE AS WELL. THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS SHOWED MORE WEAR DUE TO WORKING OVERTIME WITH LACK OF REAR BRAKES. ONLY SIGN OF THIS PRIOR WAS IT WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN WHEN PLACED ON CRUISE CONTROL, OTHERWISE, FRONT BRAKES WERE BRAKING AND NO SOUNDS WERE BEING EMITTED. HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS, ROTORS, AND BRAKE CALIPERS. UNSURE OF HOW LONG IT WAS IN THIS CONDITION. ONLY HAS 28,120 MILES ON IT.

CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT SAME TIME. I WAS PARKED IN THE POST OFFICE PARKING LOT AND THIS HAPPENED WHEN I STARTED IT. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER. I AM TOLD I NEED A NEW ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE THAT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY AS FCA DOES NOT CONSIDER IT PART OF THE POWER TRAIN.

  9. Power train, Jul 5, 2020

AFTER A COLD START (EVEN IN WARM WEATHER), WHEN SHIFTING FROM 'PARK' TO 'DRIVE' THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS MOMENTARILY AND SHAKES THE WHOLE VEHICLE. IT DOES NOT DO THIS WHEN THE ENGINE IS UP TO NORMAL OPERATING TEMP, OR IF YOU WAIT 10-15 SECONDS BEFORE PUTTING IT INTO DRIVE. I HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLES I'VE OWNED.

STARTED OUT WITH HAVING ISSUES WITH THE RADIO SCREEN NOT COMING ON JUST THE JEEP LOGO WOULD SHOW UP. THEN IT PROGRESSED TO THE SCREEN AND RADIO WOULD RESTART AS I'M DRIVING AND OCCASIONALLY WOULD MAKE A LOUD BEEPING NOISE OUT OF NOWHERE. WENT TO START MY CAR AND ALL THE LIGHTS ACROSS THE DASH WOULD FLASH AND CHANGE COLORS (FROM A BLUE TO ORANGE) AND THE CAR WILL NOT START. NOW NOTHING WORKS AT ALL ON THE CAR AND I CAN'T GET THE CAR TO START. CAR IS COMPLETELY DEAD. *TR

THE UPSHIFTER PADDLE DRIVER CONTROL ON MY JEEP SRT TRACKHAWK, ALONG WITH MANY OTHER 2010+ FCA VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH PADDLE SHIFTERS, PERFORMS THE OPPOSITE FUNCTION (DOWNSHIFTING) WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION- CAUSING THE GEARS TO LOWER ONE OR MORE, THE ENGINE TO REV UP, THE ENGINE TO ENGINE-BRAKE, AND ULTIMATELY THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE TO SHIFT AGGRESSIVELY TO THE FRONT UNINTENTIONALLY. *TR

I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND AS I GOT OUT IT BEGAN ROLLING BACKWARDS. I TRIED TO GET TURNED AROUND AND BACK IN OR GRAB THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BUT THE DOOR KNOCKED ME DOWN AND THE JEEP DROVE BACKWARDS ABOUT 150FEET AND HIT A TREE. 3WEEKS FOR REPAIRS AND I HEARD ABOUT THE CHEROKEE RECALL FOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND THIS SEEMS LIKE WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. *TR

  13. Power train, Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Jun 16, 2020

HERE ARE TIMES WHEN I HAVE PULLED OUT (WITH VARIOUS PEOPLE IN THE CAR) MOST RECENTLY MY 13 YEAR-OLD-SON, WHO WAS SCREAMING, "DAD WHAT ARE YOU DOING, WE ARE ABOUT TO BE HIT," AND THE CAR HAS COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. (NO INTERIOR LIGHTS, OR RUNNING ENGINE) QUICK THINKING SAVED US FROM A MAJOR DISASTER. WE WERE ALMOST T-BONED LAST WEEK BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS WOULD NOT BE THE FIRST TIME FOR THIS PROBLEM. PROBLEM #3: WHILE DRIVING, I PULLED OUT FROM MY STREET, A RED LIGHT OR PARKING LOT AND THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT ENGAGE, THE ENGINE REVVED (WITHOUT MOVING) AND AGAIN, I WAS ALMOST T-BONED. IT HAPPENED AGAIN THIS MORNING. PROBLEM #4: THERE ARE TIMES WHEN I AM TRAVELING UP OR DOWNHILL, THE TRANSMISSION WILL WIND OUT, THE TACHOMETER WILL SPIKE AND THEN THE JEEP MAKES A KNOCKING NOISE AND THEN I CAN CONTINUE. YOU COULD DRIVE THE CAR FOR MONTHS AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT HAPPENS. PROBLEM #5: I WAS BACKING INTO MY DRIVEWAY, THE BACK UP CAMERA STOPPED WORKING AND MY JEEP COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. THIS HAPPENS ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION AND HAS NO PRECURSOR TO WHEN IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. *TR

I BACKED OUT OF MY GARAGE TO RUN AN ERRAND, DECIDED TO RUN BACK INTO THE HOUSE FOR A SWEATER. PUT THE CAR IN PARK (IT WAS STILL OUTSIDE THE GARAGE FACING THE OPEN GARAGE DOOR). HOPPED OUT AND WENT TO GO BACK INTO THE HOUSE WITH THE CAR DOOR OPEN. THE JEEP STARTED ROLLING FORWARD. I JUMPED BACK IN, PUT ON THE BRAKE, TRIED TO SHUT THE DOOR AND IT SPED FORWARD ACCELERATING. IT WENT THROUGH THE OPEN GARAGE, IT JUMPED UP TWO STAIR STEPS, THE TIRES AND WHEELS CRASHED THROUGH THE TOP STEP FLOOR, JUMPED UP OUT OF THE HOLE IT MADE, LURCHED FORWARD AND CRASHED INTO THE HOUSE WALL AND WAS STUCK IN BETWEEN THE FURNACE WALL ON THE RIGHT AND SHELVING ON THE LEFT. THE ENGINE WAS STILL REVVING AT THIS POINT AND I CUT THE ENGINE BY PUSHING THE IGNITION BUTTON. I THEN THOUGHT THE AIRBAG WAS GOING TO HIT ME, BUT IT DID NOT DEPLOY. I DECIDED I NEEDED TO GET IT OUT OF THE WALL, SO I STARTED IT AND SHIFTED BACK INTO REVERSE, BUT IT WOULDN'T MOVE. SO I SHUT IT OFF AND THEN STARTED TO PANIC THAT THERE MIGHT BE AN EXPLOSION AS WE HAVE GAS LINES, ELECTRICAL, ETC. THERE. THE FRONT DOORS WERE PINNED SHUT. SO I JUMPED IN THE BACK AND WAS ABLE TO GET OUT THROUGH THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. I RAN OUT INTO OUR YARD AS I WAS AFRAID SOMETHING MIGHT EXPLODE. I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL OTHER EXAMPLES OF THIS ON YOUR WEBSITE AS COMPLAINTS, ETC. IN JUST A FEW MINUTES. THERE ARE MANY MORE I'M SURE AND THE NEW 2020 MODELS YOU HAVE 3 SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ALREADY. I'VE HAD MY CAR IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES FOR WELL OVER 85 DAYS AND IT'S STILL HAVING THE SAME TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I HAVE VERY HARD SHIFTING WITH ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION, I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE GET STUCK IN FIRST GEAR WHILE MAKING TURNS ONTO STREETS AND I'VE HAD IT SURGE FORWARD ON ME. I'VE HAD UPDATES, PARTS WITHIN TRANSMISSION REPLACED AND A NEW TRANSMISSION. I NOW HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE MY ISSUE AND WHEN I TOOK IT OFF THE LOT IT DID THE HARD SHIFTING AND THEN IT GOT STUCK IN FIRST GEAR WHILE MAKING A TURN. THIS HAS ALWAYS OCCURRED IN CITY DRIVING, ANY WEATHER CONDITIONS. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THE HARD SHIFTING IS NORMAL IN ALL 8 SPEED TRANSMISSIONS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL INSTANCES THAT A WRECK HAS ALMOST OCCURRED DUE TO IT NOT SHIFTING OUT OF 1ST GEAR. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY CAN'T GO TO CHRYSLER ABOUT A BUY BACK SINCE THERE IS NO ERROR CODE. I GUESS I'M SUPPOSED TO PUT MY LIFE/FAMILY IN HARMS WAY.

I AM THE OWNER OF A 2018 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. I WAS TRANSPORTING MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL ON JANUARY 28, 2020 TRAVELLING AT A SPEED OF 45-50MPH. A MESSAGE APPEARED ON MY DASHBOARD PROMPTING ME TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND PUSH START/STOP. MY VEHICLE BEGIN TO STALL AND JUST AS IT WAS SLOWING DOWN ABRUPTLY SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. I WAS LEFT SITTING IN TRAFFIC FEARING FOR ME AND MY DAUGHTER'S LIFE AS CARS CONTINUE TO DRIVE PASS AT HIGH SPEED OR DRIVING CLOSING BEHIND MY VEHICLE BEFORE REALIZING THAT WE WERE AT A STANDSTILL. I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND IT DID NOT START. I CALLED MY AUTOMOBILE INSURER WHO CONNECTED ME WITH A TOW COMPANY TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TRANSPORTED TO THE CAR DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK. BASED ON THE DIAGNOSTIC REVIEW, I WAS ADVISED THAT MY 2018 JEEP CHEROKEE HAS A FAILED AC COMPRESSOR WHICH CAUSED THE STARTER TO FAIL INTERNALLY AND MY WATER PUMP IS LEAKING. MY CAR WAS JUST TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE RECOMMENDED SERVICE ON JANUARY 2, 2020. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT SOME OF THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DETECTED DURING THE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE SINCE THE REPORT INDICATES THAT A FULL INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED. DURING THE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE SERVICE ON JANUARY 2, I GOT AN OIL CHANGE AND THE AIR FILTER WAS REPLACED. AFTER READING THE OTHER REVIEWS I AM FEARFUL FOR MY LIFE NOW WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE KNOWING THAT IT COULD STOP ANYTIME AND ANYWHERE. OUT OF SAFETY PRECAUTIONS I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE BENEFICIAL TO POST THIS AS A SAFETY PROBLEM GOD FORBID ANYTHING HAPPENS IN THE FUTURE.
