Representative owner complaints: fuel/propulsion system

  1. Fuel/propulsion system, Aug 28, 2023

The Engine light came on 3 weeks ago and I took it to the auto shop to find out what is wrong. P1547 is the code that the auto mechanic told me was coming up on the scan. He said it could be the gas cap so I had that replaced, but the light came back on in 2 days. He said that this is the 2nd Jeep Wrangler he has seen with the same engine light and code and believes it has something to do with the fuel system. My Jeep is less than 3 years old and only has 22,556 miles on it. I have only driven it around town and on the highways. Have taken very good care of the vehicle and have replaced the oil as directed. This has to be a manufacturers error and something that is quite concerning if it has to do with the fuel system. Please advise on how to proceed. I will be reaching out to Jeep corporate office as well to let them know about this issue and to see which service center they would like me to take the vehicle to. 2. Electrical system, Fuel/propulsion system, Aug 17, 2023

March of 2023. Vehicle started hesitating and skipping. P0001 was logged. Dealership found terminals to connector to fuel pressure regulator were not crimped properly and loose. Repair was made. Aug 2023. Symptom have resurfaced this time logging code and shutting off while accelerating through an intersection. Logged code again P0001 Fuel Volume Regulator Control Circuit/Open.

  3. Fuel/propulsion system, Aug 11, 2023

Fuel Sensor is way off. Have ran out of gas less than 2 mins after dropping below a 38 mile range twice now. Drive 20 miles round trip everyday and go through a 60 mile range on my vehicle. I watch the range decrease by four or five miles while in idle.

  4. Vehicle speed control, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jun 10, 2023

Dates of problem may 18 and June 9 The Jeep has engine light on the throttle control light is on I was driving on a highway and the vehicle completely went into limp mode would not go above 33 mph and almost caused an accident since the Jeep went into limp mode brought it to dealership they said the fixed it then a 2weeks later it happens again this time with my son in the car going 60 mph it does same exact thing this vehicle is a safety hazard for me and now I’m afraid to drive it at all having to pay for towing and it’s a leased vehicle just dosnt make sense to me what’s the lemon law on this

  5. Fuel/propulsion system, Jun 4, 2023

Power to my vehicle ceased abruptly. Now, my vehicle will not turn all the way on. The dashboard will illuminate but the engine will not start. This is due to Jeep's outstanding recall of a high pressure fuel pump. That recall has been listed with the NHTSA for over six months with no ETA.

  6. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jun 1, 2023

While driving approximately 15 mph the engine cut out and the engine light came on. I was able to pull over and the engine would not start. My personal obd scanner states it is the high pressure fuel pump. I had to be towed by AAA from Moab UT to grand junction Colorado Jeep Chrysler dealership 5/25/2023

  7. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, May 28, 2023

This recall is potentially life threatening. It has been months & the dealer is still saying there is no fix. I believe they are not giving it the proper attention because this recall affects only Diesel engines & there were not many diesel jeep models purchased compared to traditional gas engine jeeps. I own 2. Both are affected & I feel unsafe. Please see that they remedy this problem asap before an accident occurs due to this problem. Thank you

  8. Power train, Fuel/propulsion system, Apr 29, 2023

Vehicle has fluttered off and on for 2 months. Drove on the highway yesterday and the fluttering progressively got worse. It began to lose power and a Service Electronic Throttle Control light came on. I pulled off the side of the road, turned it off and back on. I went 45 mph with hazard lights to the nearest exit. It continued to flutter and the light reappeared. I’ve called many jeep dealerships before this as well as now and they all say there is nothing they can do due to no solution/remedy. I don’t feel safe driving my Jeep back home 3.5 hrs so I have to borrow a family member’s vehicle while my Jeep sits at a dealership until there is something they can do.

  9. Service brakes, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Apr 20, 2023, crash

Today this morning I parked, put the gear in park and all of a sudden the car ravaged up and jumped forward, causing me to go through a fence and stopped. I had my foot on the break the whole time.

  10. Fuel/propulsion system, Apr 4, 2023

I received a recall notice regarding my Jeep that states that it has a high pressure fuel pump ("HPFP") that could fail prematurely. This notice was sent on 10/13/2022 and my vehicle has still not been serviced. The notice states that a HPFP failure may introduce internally failed component debris into the fuel system potentially causing fuel starvation. The fuel starvation could cause loss of motive power, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. Also, it is possible that this issue could cause additional fuel system components to fail causing further damage to my Jeep. I drive my Jeep regularly, on a daily basis, and its my sole transportation for myself and my family. I feel unsafe driving it and would like to know what is the work around until parts are available to have this issue resolved.

  11. Power train, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Feb 18, 2023

My 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe died while driving down the road. Luckily I was able to coast to the side and cycle the engine off/on in order to regain power. This was the exact same issue that is described in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V865000, however, this time (2/3/23) was after the ZB7 recall was completed. Even after the recall work was completed and Jeep told me the vehicle was safe to drive, it still failed in the exact same manner. The recall procedure did not work and this vehicle is not safe to drive. Additionally, during the period after the recall was completed and before it died again while driving, the battery range has decreased dramatically (less than 50% of what it was prior to the recall work).

  12. Fuel/propulsion system, Nov 12, 2022

Jeep issued this recall on the fuel system but has no parts to repair. They said the dealer could install a temporary repair but my dealer said they don’t know what they are talking about. They have not offered a suitable solution and I’m stuck waiting with an unsafe vehicle.

  13. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Forward collision avoidance, Sep 19, 2022

i was. driving on the FWY, when I pass the bridge, there is a small rupper bump. the car starts shaking vertically and starts to slow down in the middle of the Fwy. I try to speed up to pull over to the right, but no response, where I felt the gas peddle is not working at that moment. I was lucky there were not too many cars behind me on the Fwy. I went to the dealer and they say something about, dead throttle.

  14. Fuel/propulsion system, Jun 29, 2022

PHEV issue. My vehicle will be using electric only mode and the internal combustion engine will turn on minutes into the trip and the battery usage is ceased. The instrument cluster will show “Electric Mode Temporarily Unavailable.” The vehicle will continue using gas engine only until the vehicle is turned off. When restarted, electric only mode is available and accessible. This message is not related to Fuel and Oil Refresh Mode. I am not using the heating or cooling system and driving local roads with a short commute. The ambient temperature is in the 70s/80s and the vehicle garaged and charged nightly. This vehicle behavior is not favorable and certainly defeats the intend of purchasing a PHEV. The vehicle spent the last three weeks at the dealership for another issue with the PHEV and waited three months for the replaced two parts to arrive. The issue was causing faults and the check engine light to come on with only 87 miles on the odometer. There is just 2477 miles on the vehicle, and the dealership service department is unable to troubleshoot the issue further as no fault codes are generating. This issue may be software based, but needs to be addressed to have a properly functioning PHEV.

  15. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jun 3, 2022

Brand new 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara 4xE (purchased 02/03/22 for $57,295) with 1,300 miles on it shut down while traveling at full highway speed (75 mph) on a major highway in the San Francisco Bay Area. The system flashed a 'stabilizer system' warning and immediately lost speed and did not respond to pressure on the gas/e pedal. We turned on the hazards and coasted across several lanes of traffic to the shoulder. After restarting, the dash displayed a check engine light the remainder of the trip, and the engine cut out one more time on the way home in a much slower safer area, thankfully. This is the second similar/major issue with this vehicle. On March 10, 2022, with only 419 miles on it, the vehicle displayed a charging error message at attempted start, provided no power to the engine, and locked itself in 'Park.' Fortunately, this engine power failure and subsequent shutdown occurred in our driveway rather than at highway speed. The vehicle was at Jeep dealership service from 03/11/22 to 04/04/22 and the issue was escalated to Fiat/Chrysler/Jeep engineers. Jeep engineers recommended six separate updates, none of which were successful. Ultimately, a part was taken from the Jeep assembly line and shipped to the dealership for use in my vehicle. The car rental fees related to this incident, which I'm yet to be reimbursed for, were $6,900 for a similar but older base model vehicle.

  16. Vehicle speed control, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Mar 30, 2022

Red Turtle warning light appears and the vehicle slows down immediately to 5~8 mph. Happens without warning and apparent triggers. Occurred multiple times in last week on freeways, exiting parking lot and on side road.

  17. Fuel/propulsion system, Mar 7, 2022

3/7 7:50 AM Jeep driving in electric mode and slowly pulling up to a stop light. Jeep started beeping and threw an error about shutting down and immediately stopped on its own in traffic. Turned Jeep off and on to continue driving. 3/5 approx 10:00 AM. Jeep idling in parking lot for approximately 20 minutes in e-save battery charge mode. Jeep turned off with a charge fault error.

  18. Electrical system, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jan 31, 2022

Yesterday, for the second time, the car shutdown while I was driving. I was on the road, close to 60 mph and the car turned the engines off. It shut down and the "D" light on the gear shift was blinking. I had to quickly try to get to the right lane, without any engine. After 3 tentatives, when I turned it back on, the engine light was on.

  19. Electrical system, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 26, 2021

Driving on highway at posted speed of 70 mph in state of Michigan and jeep quit running I had 3/4 tank of fuel and 37% battery power remaining got it restarted made it to a gas station shut off jeep filled with gas and jeep wouldn’t come back online said charging port malfunction so I open charge door and didn’t see any thing in the removed negative side of 12 volt battery underneath the hood waited for 3 mins reinstalled battery terminal and was able to get it started but the temp controls only work on extreme hot or extreme cold no in between drove back home approximately 150 with check engine light on after several power down and restart the check engine light went away and all went back to normal again

  20. Power train, Vehicle speed control, Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 21, 2021

Vehicle lost power while driving at highway speed, rapidly decelerating from 70 MPH to <20 MPH. Ignition was turned off after pulling off the highway. When vehicle restarted, alarms cleared and system temporarily operated normally. Problem returned shortly thereafter, but this time did so while accelerating across a street. This condition could have jeopardized safety of self or others by eliminating ability to maneuver/stranding vehicle in roadway. This incident was reported to dealership, who then inspected/investigated. Source is thought to be a faulty fuel pressure sensor. Warning lamps that accompanied this condition were: Check Engine, Sway Bar Link disconnected, and check 4-wheel drive. The check engine light appeared and reset approximately 60 miles prior, and no other symptoms were noted.

  21. Steering, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 10, 2021

While driving approximately 35 miles an hour while on E save with max regeneration enabled, the car cut all power, RPM went to zero, service charging system error displayed on dash. Once able to get car off of Road, was able to restart. The Uconnect app does show a charging system fault, once plugged in charging system does charge, per dealer new error codes report to substantiate failure of power.

  22. Electrical system, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 9, 2021

Vehicle was purchased on 5/22/2021 from dealer as new vehicle purchases (lease). On 5/23 less than 24 hours after delivery with 76 miles on the ODO, I got a (CEL) and numerous errors (service hybrid electrical vehicle system, service 4wheel drive system, vehicle charge fault with a red charge cord light indicator). Vehicle was returned to dealer on Monday morning with notice of issues. They diagnosed the vehicle for 1 day and returned it to me to continue to drive while they ordered parts. Vehicle was diagnosed with a P0AA6-00 “Hybrid Battery Voltage System Isolation Fault.” Dealer stated vehicle was safe to drive and would contact when parts were received. On 6/08 vehicle was returned to service for incoming parts at 575 miles. Dealer stated FCA advised them to replace the Indicator lamp module but did not correct the issue and they could not return the vehicle to me as they stated "FCA said vehicle can not be placed back on road as it may catch fire or explode". Vehicle has been at the dealer with no return since 6/8/2021. They have changed 1 indicator lamp module, 2 battery heater/chiller modules, 3 PHEV main wire harnesses and have requested a 4th as they have not been able to make the previous 3 work/function. Vehicle has now been down 7months with now successful repair and parts not available until 1/02/2022 at the earliest. And vehicle now sits with 17 unresolved trouble codes.

  23. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 3, 2021, fire

My 2021 Jeep Wrangler with 1900 miles caught on fire and was a total loss, preliminary investigation believes the cause of the fire to be a gas leak. There were no indications or warning lights, saw black smoke coming from the engine compartment by the time I pulled over and got out of the vehicle it was on fire and within minutes the entire car was engulfed by flames and it was a total loss

  24. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Nov 11, 2021

I left my daughters house with my jeep wrangler and as I shifted into forward gear there was no power on my wrangler 4XE hybrid. I move the vehicle to the side of the road and towed it to the dealers. After a little over two weeks they got it repaired. After that I have read reports of this kind of thing happening in traffic. When I lost power the engine light and stability control light came on. It is now repaired but I’m having second thoughts about the safety of the vehicle since I sometimes transport my grandchildren in the vehicle.

  25. Electrical system, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Nov 2, 2021

The two main wire harnesses are faulty. It would not charge or hold a charge. Driving it was dangerous and would stop drastically at any given random moment. A jerking motion would occur while driving. Lights on dash would come on, engine, charging fault station. Charging fault. And lightening bolt warning signs. Sometimes it would say don’t drive call for assistance. The dealership has had my vehicle since June 4 2021. The parts I’m told won’t be available until end of January 2022. I purchased the jeep on April 30th 2021. It’s very scary when you’re on the road, w my family and it decides to lock up or sounds like the transmission is falling from the under carriage. Luckily we weren’t rear ended or pushed through an intersection.
