  1. Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 22, 2026

After a recent recall for the battery, the vehicle did not operate as it did before with regards to ‘Electric only’ mode. The vehicle engine would intermittently start under seemingly normal conditions ( no major hills or hard pressing of gas) despite being in the electric mode. There would be a noticeably high rpm cycle when this happened.

  2. Electrical system, Vehicle speed control, Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 22, 2026

While driving my 2023 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4xe at approximately 70 mph in Hybrid mode the vehicle suddenly and without warning experienced a complete loss of propulsion while I was traveling in traffic. The vehicle would no longer respond normally to the accelerator and I was unable to maintain speed. The Drive (D) indicator began flashing and multiple warning lights and messages appeared on the instrument cluster. I specifically remember the red battery/charging-system warning being illuminated. The dashboard also displayed a warning relating to the power/charging system and a message instructing me to shift or put the vehicle into Park. I had to get the vehicle safely out of moving traffic. This was extremely frightening because the loss of propulsion occurred suddenly at highway speed and could have resulted in a serious collision. This vehicle has previously been brought to an authorized Jeep dealership multiple times for recalls/service involving the battery/electrical/12-volt system. On a previous occasion, the vehicle also failed to start while parked in my garage. After this highway incident occurred and after I was eventually able to get the vehicle operating again, my husband disconnected the 12-volt battery in an attempt to perform a hard reset. The battery was disconnected AFTER the loss-of-propulsion event and therefore did not precede the highway failure. The vehicle is currently at an authorized Jeep dealership for diagnosis. I have asked the dealership to document the complete loss of propulsion, retrieve any available stored, pending, history or permanent diagnostic trouble codes, and determine the cause of the failure. I am reporting this incident because I am very concerned that an electrical, hybrid, battery, charging or powertrain defect may cause the vehicle to suddenly lose motive power again while being driven. A sudden loss of propulsion at highway speed presents a serious safety risk to the occupants of this vehicle and to other motorists.

  3. Electrical system, Sep 21, 2026

Vehicle shut off while driving asking to shift into park to restart.

  4. Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 21, 2026

After receiving the 68c recall, which was a software update to protect Jeeps defective HV battery maintenance system, I have experienced two dangerous situations while driving in electric mode. After this recall when driving in electric mode the vehicle will start moving from a stop and then stall. The only way to continue after this high risk delay is to put the accelerator to the floor so the gas engine will kick in. This delay can be a couple seconds. My two circumstances are as follows. Once when crossing an intersection after stopping at a stop sign my jeep moved into the intersection and stalled in the middle of it. There was traffic from the cross road that needed to stop to miss me. The second occurrence was when I was taking a right into moving traffic. Again I was able to enter the road but the Jeep stalled and I was idle as 50 mph traffic was bearing down on me. They too needed to slow to avoid hitting me. The only work around is to not drive in electric mode which is not how the vehicle was intended. Please look into this problem before people are hurt or killed. Thanks

  5. Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 21, 2026

Whatever I am driving in electric mode usually when I’m down to under 40% electricity, the vehicle decides to shut electricity off and start to load the motor. It’s still flashing on the dash that it’s an electric mode and I tend to lose significant power. I try to give it gas there is no reaction with the gas pedal and then all of a sudden the engine will kick on and I will go into the gas motor running the vehicle why it’s still in electric mode. This happens every day and this is getting ridiculous with the problems that this Jeep is having it seems like Jeep and Solanus do not care. We call Jeep care and they just ignore all of our problems and I know this is a widespread problem throughout the US and Canada these vehicles are unsafe to drive when you’re on the highway and electric mode and it all of a sudden you have no gas pedal in the vehicle significantly slows down and the regenerative braking does not work anymore either at any time after the 68C recall can you please help us

  6. Electrical system, Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 20, 2026

Driving in full electric mode after about 6 miles, while trying to accelerate to cross in front of traffic you have a major power loss. You will start to decelerate then the engine will kick in and start at full power load 6-7 thousand rpm The vehicle will lung and a large smell of over fueling comes in the vents. This happens with very drive, some are more dangerous.

  7. Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 19, 2026

Sometimes pulling out my wrangler hesitates to accelerate. I've had couple of scary situations megeing onto the highway and pulling out at a intersection. Sometimes going up hill it seems to lose power. The Jeep used to never have a problem in any of these situations. Something has seemed to change. Help!

  8. Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 19, 2026

Following completion of the 68C recall/software update around January 31, I noticed a significant change in the performance and drivability of my Jeep Wrangler 4xe. The most noticeable difference was a reduction in acceleration and overall power. The Jeep no longer had the quick, torquey response it previously had, which was one of the primary characteristics that attracted me to the 4xe. At times, pressing the accelerator resulted in noticeable hesitation and very weak acceleration. On one occasion, I pulled into traffic expecting the Jeep to accelerate normally, but it initially did not respond as expected, requiring substantially more throttle to get the vehicle moving. This created a legitimate drivability and safety concern. My impression was that the vehicle's hybrid/electric output had been significantly restricted following the recall update. Based on discussions occurring among other 4xe owners, similar behavior was being described as the vehicle being "nerfed," with reduced electrical output and battery utilization intended to protect the high-voltage battery. Regardless of the cause, the reduction in performance was clearly noticeable compared with how the Jeep drove before the update. In the period leading up to the eventual failure, I also noticed that the Jeep's acceleration felt increasingly abnormal. In retrospect, the change was noticeable enough that I suspected something might be developing before the vehicle ultimately failed. The Jeep later developed a high-voltage battery fault associated with battery-pack voltage variation/cell imbalance. The vehicle displayed warning messages, including "Service Charging System," along with a check-engine light. It also experienced rough idling and eventually became unreliable to start or move. The failure progressed to the point where the Jeep broke down while I was leaving home. After shutting the vehicle off, it would not reliably restart. At different points it briefly powered on, including while bei

  9. Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 19, 2026

I purchased a new 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe on October 7, 2022, with 15 miles on the vehicle. As of September 19, 2026, the vehicle has 34,764 miles. All safety recalls have been completed: • Recall 53A – May 19, 2023 • Recall 95B – December 12, 2024 • Recall 68C – February 3, 2026 (hybrid battery replaced) • Recall 21D – July 10, 2026 Since the hybrid battery was replaced under Recall 68C in February 2026, I have noticed a significant change in vehicle operation. The vehicle does not remain in Electric mode for very long before automatically switching to gasoline operation. My primary safety concern is delayed acceleration. There is a noticeable pause between pressing the accelerator and the vehicle responding, particularly when accelerating from a stop or entering a highway. This lack of immediate acceleration could create a dangerous situation when quick acceleration is needed to safely enter or merge with traffic. I did not experience this level of delayed acceleration before the hybrid battery was replaced. The change occurred after the battery replacement. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether the hybrid battery replacement, hybrid powertrain, or related software may be contributing to the delayed acceleration and unexpected transition from Electric to gasoline operation.

  10. Power train, Electrical system, Engine, Sep 18, 2026

After a recent recall (68C) the vehicle performance has greatly deteriorated. The ELEC mode propulsion has been limited, the internal combustion engine (ICE) engages much sooner than previous. Instead of a 'warm-up' cycle for the ICE, it feels as though there is actual clutch engagement, but with limited power. I feel this could have the potential to accelerate engine wear with a 'cold' engine with rapid engagement, as well as increased fuel/oil dilution (inherent with direct injection turbo engines). In turn, causing the vehicle to experience Fuel Oil Refresh Mode (FORM) more frequently, due to short, repetitive engine cycles. Additionally, the regenerative braking has been cut in half, leading to a decrease in electric charger egeneration to the HV battery, as well as decreased range and power. It is most obvious in stop and go traffic, when attempting to pull out in traffic, as well as when attempting to merge onto a highway or interstate. I feel, without intervention, the current vehicle performance will certainly lead to increased mechanical issues, a potential for frequent service department visits, as well as an increased potential for probable incidents/accidents during operation. I understand Stellantis has offered an extended warranty for the HV battery (unlimited years/miles, with limitations). However, Samsung SDI should be pressured to actually fix their HV battery, not replace it with a similar known faulty battery. This vehicle, in my honest opinion, can be made safe and reliable, but only with intervention and pressure from outside agencies with the power to force the manufacturer(s) to do so -- and my service department agrees. That is why I am elevating these issues, to hopefully enact change, and quite possibly, reduce the potential for catastrophic failures and/or an increased potential for accidents resulting in injury/death. Thank you for your concern with this matter.

  11. Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 18, 2026

Since the 68C recall I experience power loss that makes it very difficult to safely operate vehicle in electric only mode. Power loss occurs while attempting to merge into highway traffic sometimes. It also abruptly shifts into gas mode while not in peak demand mode.

  12. Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 18, 2026

After the 68C recall was completed, which was a new electric battery, I have had an ongoing issue of losing power when merging back onto a road on city streets as well as onto the hwy. Its very scary to have this loss of power and very dangerous. I also have an issue of short engine runs while in hybrid or electric mode and they seem to be for no reason at all. I can be going the same speed or just barely increase the speed. It may go in and out several times during the drive for no reason at all. I have been told this is not good for the engine. long tern. Now, today I had to get an oil change to get myself out of FORM. I was not due for an oil change. But, I went into form AFTER getting fresh gas and it stayed there for a week. Not sure if it was ever going to go back to being able to use electric or hybrid mode. Also this summer I would go into FORM several times, I purchased this vehicle brand new and I never had this issue the previous 3 summers. It would go out of FORM if I would add gas. But, this time it did not. So, i had to pay for an oil change before actually needing one. I just want my 4xE back to the way it was before the 68C recall. It seems like there may have been a new programing change or something, not sure, but this is NOT the same vehicle I purchased. Losing power is also very dangerous. I am hoping JEEP can make a fix. I loved this vehicle prior to 68C and honestly had no issues until now. Again, this is an ongoing issue. 13. Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 18, 2026

ongoing issue, noticed when turning into turns the jeep will lose some power making it hard to accelerate with traffic, continuous power loss or motor doesnt respond like it should, reduced power when trying to stay with traffic or accessing the highway, motor will randomly start when in battery mode, if in battery mode jeep will not accelerate over 60mph while on highway, motor will come on for no reason while driving 35-40mph, issue is unsafe when doesnt respond like it should. this all started after the 68c recall, loading the engine immediately with no warm up could cause internal damage to engine

  14. Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 18, 2026

The vehicle feels unsafe due to lack of acceleration when in electric mode, or when the car elects to switch from gas to electric on its own. The car will constantly fluctuate between gas and electric mode on the highway even when in cruise. This all stared happening after getting the latest recall performed (68C) on my hybrid Jeep Wrangler.

  15. Electrical system, Engine, Sep 18, 2026

Subject: Performance Degradation and Drive Mode Faults Following Recall 68C Update – 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xeTo Whom It May Concern,I am writing to formally report a significant degradation in vehicle performance and powertrain management following the completion of the Recall 68C software update on my 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe.Prior to the update, the vehicle operated efficiently and provided excellent torque and acceleration. I purchased this plug-in hybrid vehicle specifically to utilize electric-only (EV) mode for my daily 30-mile highway commute between [XXX] and [XXX].However, since the Recall 68C service was completed, the vehicle exhibits the following issues:Involuntary Engine Switching: Even when the vehicle is actively set to "Electric" mode, the hybrid powertrain constantly forces transitions between battery power and the internal combustion engine. This behavior occurs under normal driving conditions in ambient outdoor temperatures of approximately 80°F.Loss of Electric Powertrain Performance: The available power and torque in electric-only mode are noticeably diminished compared to the pre-recall performance levels.Compromised Vehicle Utility & Increased Operating Costs: Because the gasoline engine frequently overrides the electric settings, the primary functional utility of the PHEV system is negated. This failure to maintain electric propulsion has dramatically increased my fuel consumption and operati the safety software update deployed to mitigate high-voltage battery cell risks has fundamentally compromised the vehicle's advertised performance, utility, and drivetrain integrity. I request that the NHTSA investigate whether these post-recall performance changes constitute a systematic defect and urge Stellantis/Jeep to provide a permanent software or hardware correction. Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your oversight regarding consumer vehicle safety and compliance. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  16. Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 18, 2026

The vehicle’s Hybrid system has been dramatically changed and power has been dramatically decreased following several safety recalls on the vehicle’s Hybrid battery. While my vehicle always passed these recalls and the original battery is still in the car, I believe software upgrades to how the Hybrid system functions have created a safety issue. Specifically, the power the Hybrid system provides has been decreased and the engine is forced to turn on sporadically. This at times happens with a delay, causes issues when merging / getting up to speed, and is an overall safety issue. While I have enjoyed having the vehicle, I believe Jeep needs to address this issue to return the vehicle to closer to its original ability and software package in order to make the vehicle as safe as it originally was. The dealer is unable to assist with this and it is more about Jeep corporate putting in the resources to solve the problem the battery and software package has created. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  17. Electrical system, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 17, 2026

Post 68C recall, the vehicle performance in all electric mode is greatly diminished. At lower speeds, and electric motor exertion, the vehicle will rapidly and violently switch to combustion power going from 0-3500 rpm’s with no engine warming cycle. Additionally, at 50% battery charge and below, the vehicle can fail to accelerate at all, experiencing a near dead gas pedal, which can be seriously unsafe when attempting to merge or turn into traffic. Based on my experience, these symptoms are exacerbated by warm temperatures, which may be indicative of the manufacturer changing battery temperature thresholds to protect a still defective battery. This vehicle no longer performs as it was advertised and sold to perform following multiple recalls for the same issue. This needs to be resolved once and for all, as it has become a much less safe vehicle to drive as it will switch from ICE to electric unpredictably, causing either rapid, unexpected acceleration or a dead pedal from a stop. Please hold the manufacturer accountable

Every recall they have done on our Jeep regarding the battery has diminished the performance of our Jeep. Now in electric mode , you never know what you are going to get. Sometimes it has decent power and other times it lags and does nothing. Really scary when you are trying to merge. When it is in hybrid mode, the engine kicks on at what seems like full throttle which is not safe either. When we bought it new, neither of these were problems. I want it back to what I originally bought which felt way more safe to drive. I don’t even want my [XXX] and [XXX] kids to drive it because of how unpredictable it is to drive. My vehicles check engine light came on in the morning when starting the vehicle. It was a solid check engine light not flashing. I proceede to drive the vehicle and while pressing the accelerator the vehicle does not move. the engine done not connect immediatly, this is a hybrid vehicle so it attempts to use both the electrical and gas motors. The engin begins to rev very high and then after somewhere between 5-10 secounds of no power the vechicle jumps forward with the gas engine connecting. I attempt to put the vehicle into gas only mode, but this also does not work as this setting is turned off along with the electrical only mode. Other interior electronics are not working either. When attempting to drive to my local auto parts store to find out the codes for the check engine the vehicle shut off the gas engine preventing the vehicle from accelerating. Then seemingly randomly the engine will kick on and lurch the vehicle forward and then stop and turn off the gas engine again. The safty of myself and other are at risk because of the uncontrolable acceleration or loss of power randomly while driving. The problem has now been reproducable for multiple days. I have reported it to my dealership Bloomington Chrystler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram. And was told they do not have any appointments available and I should wait and should be safe to continue driving. Upon getting the codes from the auto parts store obd2 scanner I received 4 counts of the P0BEE code and 1 count of the P1ABC code. I informed my dealership of this and they told me that I should continue to drive it until my appointment and that they can assess it then. In the mean time I have lost power in the middle of intersections while attempting to drive through. I have lurched forward into crosswalks with pedestrians attempting to cross the street at stop signs and have lost power on streets when slowing down causing the vehicle to be unable to restart until coming to a complete stop and restarting.

The high voltage battery failed to charge, power surges and power drops while on highway plus burning smell. Charger stopped charging and gave warning light. No one was able to replicate so I was forced to take vehicle back. I am in [XXX] and asked if this could be the issue. No one could verify or give me advice. Having done my own investigations I see high temperatures can affect and cause thermal fires. The manufacturer is not taking this seriously and also dealers in [XXX] where it is excessively over recommended temperatures to charge should be making owners of these vehicles aware or don’t sell them in the state. I have been treated appallingly from everyone trying to ensure my safety. Although I was lucky there was no serious incident I believe this will happen. Furthermore with the fires in EV or hybrids, why if excessive heat is an issue, are the fires not being investigated as to where and what states. I thought NHTSA was there to protect and provide safety information for manufacturers to follow. I am being left to drive a vehicle in which me my family and others are being put in danger. After the 68c recall the power of the electric drive is limited. Frequent power loss occurs on highway driving during acceleration (merging onto highway or passing other cars). Despite the battery being charged up to 50% there is only 25% power available. The car is a plug in hybrid vehicle. The internal combustion engine starts in these cases with several seconds delay. During that time the car does not accelerate sufficiently to safely merge onto a highway or pass other cars. The power loss happens without warning during critical drive situations like merging onto a highway or passing other cars. The driver expects a continuous level of power by the car, not a sudden power loss. This is reported by countless other drivers on all social media platforms as a consequence of the 68C recall that affects 350 000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe. Jeep does not respond to customer complaints or requests for clarification.

Vehicle went into “limp mode” as I was entering an intersection. Pressed accelerator to the floor and vehicle would only sputter and crawl slowly. Vehicle towed to dealership. My safety and the safety of others was put at risk as the vehicle, without warning, essentially stalled while driving. If there were other vehicles on the roadway, this could have easily caused an an accident with injuries or worse. Yes the problem was comfirmed by the dealership. Yes the vehicle has been inspected by the dealer and manufacturer engineer. Dealership reports high voltage battery needs replacement. Dealership states that they cannot guarantee this won’t happen again even after battery is replaced. Check engine light was illuminated.

I own a 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4-Door Sahara 4xe (VIN [XXX], plug-in hybrid). Since new, this vehicle has had repeated electrical and high-voltage (HV) hybrid battery system failures. About eight months after purchase, at approximately 6,590 miles, the vehicle lost power and would not restart in a parking lot ("Service Charging System" warning) and had to be towed to the dealer (Repair Order #[XXX], 10/18/2023–10/20/2023); a 12V battery failure was diagnosed. On February 9–10, 2026, the dealer performed Recall Campaign 68C (JL/WL PHEV HV Battery) on this vehicle — a software/module update to the BPCM, HCP, AHCP, PCM, TCM, and IDCM, plus an HV battery diagnostic analysis (Repair Order #[XXX]). On [XXX], at approximately 22,692 miles, the check engine light illuminated and the dealer diagnosed a hybrid (HV) battery failure. The manufacturer (Stellantis/FCA US LLC) subsequently opened a warranty case (#[XXX]) and a lemon-law repurchase case (#[XXX]), confirming the vehicle could not be repaired and offering repurchase or $15,000 cash compensation. As of this filing, the vehicle remains at the dealership, out of service, well past the dealer's own promised repair completion date. Across its ownership, this vehicle has been out of service for HV-battery- and electrical-system-related repairs for a documented cumulative total of approximately 50 days. I am filing this report because a vehicle losing propulsion/electrical power unexpectedly, and a manufacturer needing to run an HV battery software recall campaign on this same vehicle only six months before a full HV battery failure, both raise safety concerns beyond an ordinary warranty repair, and I want this pattern on record in case other owners of this model are experiencing the same failures. Vehicle left me stranded in the middle of an intersection XXX due to high voltage battery failure. Vehicle was totally inoperable. This is the second time the battery has failed. First battery replacement was XXX. Also serviced XXX for battery issues. Vehicle had to be towed to the dealership, date unknown when battery will arrive for replacement. I'm now left with a vehicle that will have zero value for resale. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle and cannot consider driving the Jeep for a long distance. I tried to chat one of the agents associated with NHTSA named [XXX], she was very rude. I hope you can understand this situation is extremely upsetting. Thank you.
