Latches/locks/linkages, tailgate, latchMay 9, 2019
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks equipped with an 8 foot bed and a power locking tailgate. Chrysler is also recalling all 2013-2014 and 2018 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks built before April 1, 2018 with a 6 or 8 foot bed and a power locking tailgate. On August 29, 2019 Chrysler expanded the recall to include an additional 693,128 model year 2013-2014 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks. The tailgate actuator limiter tab may fracture and cause the tailgate to unlatch and open while driving.
If the tailgate opens while the vehicle is being driven, cargo may fall out the vehicle and create a road hazard, increasing the risk of crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will repair the tailgate latch, free of charge. The recall began May 23, 2019. Chrysler is expected to notify owners of the expanded population on October 18, 2019. Owners may contact FCA US customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US's number for this recall is V44. Electrical system, wiringMay 17, 2018
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.
If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

Power train, automatic transmission, lever and linkage, column shiftDec 20, 2017
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of less than 10,000 lbs, 2011-2017 Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, 2009-2017 Ram 1500 and 2010-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks, all equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.
Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle software, inspect the BTSI, and, as necessary, replace it, free of charge. The recall began February 26, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T79.

Air bagsMay 9, 2017
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Ram 1500, Ram 2500, and 2014-2016 Ram 3500 vehicles. Certain driving conditions, such as driving off-road or debris striking the vehicle may cause the roll rate sensor to trigger a fault within the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC). If this fault occurs, the rollover side curtain air bag and the seat belt pretensioner will be disabled from deploying.
If the rollover side curtain air bags and seat belt pretensioners are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a crash that necessitates activation of these safety systems.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the ORC software, free of charge. The recall began June 26, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T25.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500, 2015 Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger, 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, and Dodge Durango, and 2013-2015 Dodge Viper vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with radios that have software vulnerabilities that can allow third-party access to certain networked vehicle control systems.
Exploitation of the software vulnerability may result in unauthorized remote modification and control of certain vehicle systems, increasing the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify and mail affected owners a USB drive that includes a software update that eliminates the vulnerability, free of charge. Optionally, owners may download the update to their own USB drive from http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ or take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for immediate installation. In an effort to mitigate the effects of this security vulnerability, Chrysler has had the wireless service provider close the open cellular connection to the vehicle that provided unauthorized access to the vehicle network. This measure may not have been implemented on all vehicles and does not address access by other means that will be remedied by the software update. The recall began on August 25, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R40.

In the affected vehicles, the side impact sensor calibrations may be overly sensitive, and as a result, the side air bag inflatable curtains and seat air bags may unexpectedly deploy and the seat belt pre-tensioners may activate.
Air bags that unexpectedly deploy increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the Occupant Restraint Control module calibration, free of charge. The recall began on September 8, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R23.

SINCE THIS TRUCK WAS NEW THERE HAS BEEN AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE WITH THE CONTROL PANEL GOING DEAD, OR LOSING POWER. THIS PANEL INCLUDES THE ABILITY TO CHANGE THE TRUCK INTO VARIOUS 4X4 SETTINGS AS WELL AS THE PANEL THAT CONTROLS MANY OTHER FUNCTIONS SUCH AS THE HEATED/COOLED SEATS, AIR RIDE SUSPENSION ETC. SOMETIMES THE TURNING OFF THE TRUCK AND THEN RESTARTING IT CLEARS THE ISSUE, OTHER TIMES IT DOES NOTHING. THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. HTTP://WWW.RAMFORUMZ.COM/SHOWTHREAD.PHP?T=179332&HIGHLIGHT=CONTROL+PANEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO ENGAGE OR DISENGAGE 4X4 WHEN NEEDED AS WELL AS BEING VERY DISTRACTING TO THE DRIVER.
Electrical system, Aug 15, 2015
WHILE NO ACCIDENT HAS OCCURRED, IN MY OPINION THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. THE UCONNECT SYSTEM EITHER BECOMES DISCONNECTED OR HAS A POOR RECEPTION WHILE DRIVING. IT IS VERY INCONSISTENT IN THE WAY IT PERFORMS. IT CREATES A SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE WHEN THIS OCCURS YOU NATURALLY ATTEMPT TO EITHER RECONNECT OR DISCONNECT FROM THE SYSTEM CREATING A SIGNIFICANT DISTRACTION. ATTEMPTS BY THE DEALER TO FIX THE PROBLEM HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL.

WHEN I SLOWED DOWN FOR A STOP TO TURN RIGHT, THE TRANSMISSION WENT INTO NEUTRAL AND THE TRUCK COASTED DOWN TO A STOP. THE TRANSMISSION KNOB WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF DRIVE AND THE TRANSMISSION STAYED IN NEUTRAL. WHEN I STOPPED AND TURNED OFF MOTOR, I COULD TURN TRANSMISSION SHIFTER TO PARK, START TRUCK AND SHIFT INTO DRIVE. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 5 WEEKS APART. BOTH TIMES I WAS ON A CITY STREET AND IT WAS NOT A TRAFFIC PROBLEM. CURRENT MILEAGE 7455. I CALLED MY DEALER AND HE SAID HE HAD NOT HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM, AND SAID IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN TO HAVE TO TOWED TO HIM. I LIVE 150 MILES FROM HIM. MY CLOSEST DEALER IS 60 MILES. ON 12/13/2014, I PURCHASED A NEW, 2014 DODGE RAM 1500 IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS. ON 01/23/2015, AFTER ACCUMULATING 1000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, I TRIGGERED THE KEY FOB TO UNLOCK THE VEHICLE ONLY TO HAVE THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAIL. I COULD NOT START THE VEHICLE NO MATTER WHAT I TRIED. I NOTIFIED DODGE AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 01/24/2015. AFTER SEVERAL VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND NUMEROUS TELEPHONE CALLS, I COULD NOT RECEIVE ANY DEFINITIVE ANSWER AS TO WHAT WAS BEING DIAGNOSED OR DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. EVENTUALLY, I HAD TO OPEN A CASE FILE THROUGH DODGE CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY TOO, WERE MET WITH THE SAME UNCERTAINTY AND COULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. AFTER 40 DAYS IN MAINTENANCE AND A GREAT DEAL OF ACQUIRED STRESS, THE VEHICLE WAS FINALLY RETURNED IN WORKING ORDER. THE CAUSE ? A FAULTY, TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM). UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION OF THIS UNIT I HAVE COME TO FIND THAT (1) CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, (2) THERE IS A NATIONAL BACKORDER FOR TIPM?S STRETCHING MONTHS, AND (3) LEGAL ACTION IS PENDING. DUE TO THE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT I HAD TO ENDURE, I NO LONGER WANT THIS TRUCK, NOR DO I TRUST ITS INTEGRITY. ALTHOUGH THE SYSTEM FAILED AT MY HOME, IT COULD HAVE VERY WELL HAPPENED ON THE ROAD AND CAUSED ?WHO KNOWS WHAT?. I AM DONE WITH THIS VEHICLE. *TR

AFTER PULLING INTO MY DRIVE WAY WITH MY ADULT SON IN THE PASSENGER SEAT I WAS ROLLING UP TO THE GARAGE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL SLOWING DOWN THE TRUCK. I STOPPED THE TRUCK COMPLETELY, BY PUSHING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL HARDER, ABOUT 5 FEET FROM THE HOUSE. I REACHED DOWN TO ROTATE THE SHIFT DIAL TO PARK, "P". AFTER TURNING TO "P" THE TRUCK ENGINE STARTED REVVING AND THE TRUCK LURCHED FORWARD, AFTER INITIALLY BEING STARTLED I LOOKED DOWN AND SAW THE SHIFT DIAL WAS AT "P" AND THE ENGINE WAS STILL REVVING. THE TRUCK THEN STRUCK THE CORNER OF THE HOUSE WHILE I WAS ALMOST STANDING UP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TRYING TO GET IT TO STOP. I TURNED THE SHIFT DIAL TO REVERSE AND BACK TO PARK AND THE TRUCK STOPPED REVVING AND MOVING. THEN I BACKED AWAY FROM THE HOUSE. BEING A RETIRED POLICE DETECTIVE THE FIRST THING I DID WAS TO CHECK TO SEE IF THE FACTORY FLOOR MAT HAD DISLODGED AND JAMMED INTO THE PEDALS BUT IT WAS PROPERLY HOOKED IN PLACE. AFTER GETTING THE TRUCKS BODY DAMAGE REPAIRED I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER BUT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK. I DID NOTICE THAT WHEN I PICKED THE TRUCK UP FROM THE DEALER THERE WAS A CLICKING SOUND UNDER THE DASH WHEN I ROTATED THE SHIFT DIAL FROM "R" TO "P" THAT I DO NOT RECALL HEARING BEFORE. NO CLICKING IS HEARD WHEN CHANGING BETWEEN ANY OTHER GEARS.

WITH AROUND 14000 MILES ON MY TRUCK I WAS DRIVING HOME AND WAS ALERTED THAT MY FRONT LEFT BLINKER WAS BURNT OUT, MOMENTS LATER I WAS NOTIFIED THAT MY RIGHT FRONT BLINKER WAS BURNT OUT. A FEW MILES DOWN THE INTERSTATE FROM THAT I WAS NOTIFIED THAT MY RIGHT FOG LIGHT HAD BURNT OUT. I WAS GOING TO TAKE MY TRUCK IN THE NEXT DAY (MONDAY MORNING). BEFORE HEADING TO THE DEALERSHIP I INSPECTED MY FRONT LIGHTS TO FIND THAT MY FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT WAS OUT ALSO. I WAITED UNTIL THE SUN CAME UP AND PRIOR TO HEADING TO THE DEALERSHIP I CHECKED THE LIGHTS AGAIN. ALL WERE WORKING SO I DIDN'T TAKE MY TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP (MONDAY MID-MORNING). TUESDAY MORNING THE CYCLE REPEATED ITSELF GETTING NOTIFIED FIRST OF THE LEFT FRONT BLINKER, THEN THE RIGHT FRONT BLINKER, THEN THE FOG LIGHT. I SAW NO REFLECTION FROM THE TAIL LIGHT BLINKER AS WELL. THE 2014 RAM 1500 SPORT I BOUGHT HAS HAD REPEATED DASH AND INTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEMS. THE DASH LIGHTS RANDOMLY FLICKER OR DON'T TURN ON AT ALL. ON SOME OCCASIONS NO INTERIOR LIGHTS AT ALL WOULD WORK. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES BUT STILL HASN'T BEEN REPAIRED. THE DEALERSHIP HAS DONE SOFTWARE UPDATES, RE-GROUNDED THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND REPLACED THE BODY CONTROL MODULE WITHOUT FIXING THE PROBLEM. IN ADDITION THE REMOTE START SOMETIMES DOES NOT START THE TRUCK IT LOCKS THE DOORS INSTEAD, THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNABLE TO FIND A SOLUTION. I FEEL THAT THE DIAL USED TO SELECT THE DRIVE GEAR IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THE DIAL IS A SIMILAR SIZE AND SHAPE AS THE COMFORT AND RADIO CONTROLS AND PLACED RIGHT NEXT TO OTHER DASH KNOBS. I BELIEVE THAT A DRIVER COULD INTEND TO CHANGE THE RADIO STATION OR TURN THE FAN DOWN BUT INADVERTENTLY TAKE THE TRUCK OUT OF GEAR. OVERALL THIS TRUCK HAS SERIOUS ELECTRICAL FLAWS AND THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING KNOCKED OUT OF GEAR WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE IN MY OPINION. *TR

IT IS NOW 02/03/15 (5 1/2 MONTHS) - THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS IT IN FOR "REPAIR". THE WARRANTY REQUIRES THAT THE VEHICLE NOT BE DRIVEN WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, THUS DENYING US OF THE REGULAR USE OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH IS CRITICAL IN OUR CATTLE OPERATION. THERE IS A CONTINUOUS UNKNOWN ELECTRICAL DRAW CAUSING THE BATTERY TO DRAIN TO THE POINT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START. AN ELECTRICAL SURGE WILL CAUSE THE ELECTRIC SUSPENSION TO ACTIVATE ALONG WITH THE CONSOLE CLUSTER AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP 6 TIMES AND NEITHER THE DEALERSHIP OR CHRYSLER HAS A FIX. THE CONDITION IS GETTING WORSE AND NOW THERE IS A NEW ISSUE AFFECTING THE ELECTRICAL CLUTCHES IN THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE REQUESTED A LOANER VEHICLE UNTIL I CAN PURCHASE A DIFFERENT VEHICLE I FEEL IS SAFER. ON APRIL 3, 2014, THE DISTRICT CHRYSLER REPRESENTATIVE DENIED THE REQUEST. I BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE FOR MULTIPLE POSSIBLE REASONS BUT ESPECIALLY CONCERNED ABOUT HE ALTERNATOR. THE ALTERNATOR'S FUNCTION IS TO RECHARGE THE BATTERY ONCE IT'S BEEN USED TO START THE ENGINE. AND TO KEEP THE BATTERY CHARGED WHEN VARIOUS ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ARE USED IN THE VEHICLE. THE ALTERNATOR DETERMINES HOW MUCH TO CHARGE THE BATTERY BY MEASURING THE REFERENCE VOLTAGE FROM THE BATTERY. IF THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH THE BATTERY WHERE THE REFERENCE VOLTAGE IS VERY LOW, THE ALTERNATOR WILL TRY TO RECHARGE THE BATTERY. THE ALTERNATOR ISN'T DESIGNED TO RECHARGE A DEAD BATTERY. IT'S INTENDED TO MAINTAIN THE CHARGE ON A GOOD BATTERY. WHEN THIS DOES HAPPEN, THE ALTERNATOR BEGINS TO RUN HOT, AND THIS IS WHAT KILLS THE ALTERNATOR. A DEAD BATTERY WHILE DRIVING MEANS NO ELECTRIC STEERING, NO ANTILOCK BRAKES, NO AIR BAGS, ECT. I'M VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE. *TR
