  5. Latches/locks/linkages, tailgate, latchMay 9, 2019

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks equipped with an 8 foot bed and a power locking tailgate. Chrysler is also recalling all 2013-2014 and 2018 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks built before April 1, 2018 with a 6 or 8 foot bed and a power locking tailgate. On August 29, 2019 Chrysler expanded the recall to include an additional 693,128 model year 2013-2014 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks. The tailgate actuator limiter tab may fracture and cause the tailgate to unlatch and open while driving.

If the tailgate opens while the vehicle is being driven, cargo may fall out the vehicle and create a road hazard, increasing the risk of crash.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will repair the tailgate latch, free of charge. The recall began May 23, 2019. Chrysler is expected to notify owners of the expanded population on October 18, 2019. Owners may contact FCA US customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US's number for this recall is V44. 6. Electrical system, wiringMay 17, 2018

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.

If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

  7. Power train, automatic transmission, lever and linkage, column shiftDec 20, 2017

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of less than 10,000 lbs, 2011-2017 Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, 2009-2017 Ram 1500 and 2010-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks, all equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.

Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle software, inspect the BTSI, and, as necessary, replace it, free of charge. The recall began February 26, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T79.

  8. Air bagsMay 9, 2017

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Ram 1500, Ram 2500, and 2014-2016 Ram 3500 vehicles. Certain driving conditions, such as driving off-road or debris striking the vehicle may cause the roll rate sensor to trigger a fault within the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC). If this fault occurs, the rollover side curtain air bag and the seat belt pretensioner will be disabled from deploying.

If the rollover side curtain air bags and seat belt pretensioners are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a crash that necessitates activation of these safety systems.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the ORC software, free of charge. The recall began June 26, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T25.

The affected vehicles are equipped with radios that have software vulnerabilities that can allow third-party access to certain networked vehicle control systems.

Exploitation of the software vulnerability may result in unauthorized remote modification and control of certain vehicle systems, increasing the risk of a crash.

Chrysler will notify and mail affected owners a USB drive that includes a software update that eliminates the vulnerability, free of charge. Optionally, owners may download the update to their own USB drive from http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ or take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for immediate installation. In an effort to mitigate the effects of this security vulnerability, Chrysler has had the wireless service provider close the open cellular connection to the vehicle that provided unauthorized access to the vehicle network. This measure may not have been implemented on all vehicles and does not address access by other means that will be remedied by the software update. The recall began on August 25, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R40.

VEHICLE HAS JUST UNDER 77K MILES ON IT, POWERTRAIN WARRANTY EXPIRED END OF FEBRUARY DUE TO TIME RESTRAINT BEFORE REACHING THE 100K MILES LIMIT (7YR/100K MILE ON A CERTIFIED USED) VEHICLE PURCHASED MARCH 2016. WHILE DRIVING THIS WEEK THE POWER STEERING RANDOMLY FAILS CAUSING THE WHEEL TO SNAP TO ONE SIDE, AT FREEWAY SPEED THIS COULD BE FETAL. I HAVE READ FORUMS OF SEVERAL OTHERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE IN THE PAST AND IT COSTING $2,000-4,000+ TO REPLACE THE ESP (ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING). PART IS NOT FIXABLE WITHOUT REPLACEMENT AND UNDER 100K MILES SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THIS ISSUE. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF THIS WOULD'VE HAPPENED AT FREEWAY SPEED, I HAD THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WHILE TURNING A CORNER AT APPROX 25MPH NEARLY SENDING ME OFF THE ROAD. RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND PROBLEM WENT AWAY LEADING ME TO BELIEVE IT MAY BE A ONE TIME SOFTWARE GLITCH. VEHICLE HAD NO PROBLEMS FOR THE NEXT COUPLE DAYS AND NOW THE STEERING HAS REPEATEDLY FAILED CAUSING ME TO BE UNABLE TO DRIVE IT.

  4. Fuel/propulsion system, Apr 4, 2019

FUEL GAUGE DROPS TO EMPTY SHORTLY AFTER FILLING UP. THIS CAN CAUSE SAFETY ISSUES IF THE VEHICLE RUNS OUT OF GAS AND LEAVES THE DRIVER STRANDED AS THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW HOW MUCH FUEL IS LEFT IN THE TANK. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH RAM TRUCKS AND A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS COUNTLESS PEOPLE THAT HAVE OR ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. OUT OF ALL OF MY YEARS DRIVING, I'VE NEVER KNOWN OF A SINGLE VEHICLE WITH THIS MANY FAILURES OF THIS TYPE.

. MY PICK-UP AVERAGED 24 PER GALLON BETWEEN LOCAL AND EXPRESSWAY DRIVING. EXPRESSWAY DRIVING ONLY (FOR EXAMPLE, TO NIAGARA FALLS IN 2015) AVERAGED 27 MILES PER GALLON. FOLLOWING REPLACEMENT OF SPARK PLUGS AND OIL CHANGE AND 2 FACTORY RECALLS MY PICK-UP LOST POWER AND COULD BARELY DO 20 MILES PER GALLON. THE ENGINE BECAME VERY LOUD. THE LONGER I DROVE IT, THE LESS MILEAGE I GOT -- THE ENGINE ALSO BEGAN HOWLING/WHISTLING AS I TRIED TO INCREASE SPEED. IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN SPEED, I HAD TO CONSTANTLY PRESS MY FOOT TO EXCELERATE, EVEN GOING DOWN INCLINES. I HAD TO CONTINUOUSLY BRING MY PICK-UP BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP IN ST. CHARLES, ILLINOIS BECAUSE VARIOUS SYSTEMS BEGAN TO FAIL -- SAFETY BREAKS, FUEL RELATED BLACK BOX, DASHBOARD PANEL SIGNALS , ETC. I EXPRESSED CONCERN ABOUT THE STRESS ON MY TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE. EVENTUALLY, BY PROCESS OF ELIMIMATION, SERVICE DEPARTMENT REVISITED THE 2 RECALLS -- ONE OF WHICH WAS THE CRUISE CONTROL RECALL. WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN AGAIN, THEY FOUND 6 LEAKS LOCATED ON THE TOP OF THE ENGINE. ANYTHING ABOVE 50-55 MPH IS DIFFICULT. I FEEL THAT THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT CHANGE GEARS IN A TIMELY FASHION, AND SOMETIMES NOT AT ALL. THE RPM IS VERY HIGH AND THE ENGINE REMAINS IN EXCERATION MODE EITHER TOO LONG OR, AT HIGHER SPEEDS, NEVER KICKS IN

  15. Steering, Mar 16, 2019

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN, THE WHEEL FELT HARD TO TURN, BUT THEN WAS FINE AFTER THAT, ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER GETTING ONTO THE HIGHWAY THE WHEEL GOT TIGHT AGAIN, AND WHILE MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY THE WHEEL WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. TAKING AN EXIT AND MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN I HAD TO USE ALL OF MY EFFORT TO TURN AND STRAIGHTEN BACK OUT. FELT LIKE THE WHEEL WAS GOING TO LOCK UP. MAKING TURNS THE REST OF THE WAY BACK HOME WAS VERY DIFFICULT. THE EPS SYSTEM WILL TURN BACK ON WHEN THE WHEELS ARE ABOUT 3/4 OF THE WAY TURNED, AND TURN BACK OFF MAKING THE TURN VERY DIFFICULT THEN BRIEFLY EASY. BUT WHEN I WAS HAVING TO USE MY BODY TO TURN AND THEN EPS KICKS BACK ON I MADE A VIOLENT TURN AND HAD A VERY HARD TIME GETTING BACK STRAIT AND IN MY LANE

  17. Power train, Mar 12, 2019

SLIPPED OUT OF PARK, TRUCK WAS ON WHEEL RAMPS BUT NOT FULLY ON FLAT PART OF RAMP. I WAS CHANGING THE OIL ON THE VEHICLE. IT WAS ON THE RAMPS FOR AROUND 15 MINUTES AND ROLLED BACKWARDS. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN PARK AND LUCKILY I WAS NOT UNDER IT AT THE TIME. NOT MY SMARTEST MOVE NO BLOCKS BEHIND WHEELS AND NO PARKING BRAKE ON. I DOUBLE CHECKED AND VEHICLE STARTED AND WAS STILL IN PARK WITHOUT ME TOUCHING THE ROTARY DIAL. THIS SCARED ME ENOUGH TO BE CONCERNED. IGNITION OFF AND KEYS WERE IN OFF POSITION IN THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 72000 MILES AND I HAVE OWNED IT FOR AROUND 50000 OF THOSE MILES. I AM FAMILIAR WITH THE ROTARY DIAL.

  19. Suspension, Mar 11, 2019

THE INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME ON I40 IN AMARILLO TEXAS. I WAS DOING 75 MPH AND MY TRUCK LOWERED ALL THE WAY TO THE ENTRY EXIT SETTING ON THE AIR RIDE SUSPENSION. I HAD LITERALLY NO SUSPENSION. AS I WAS TRYING TO SLOW DOWN AND TRYING TO PULL OVER I HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD. MY TRUCK LITERALLY BOUNCED LIKE A LOW RIDER AND MY HEAD HIT THE CEILING. I LOST CONTROL WHEN THE FRONT WHEELS HIT THE GROUND AND ALMOST CRASHED INTO THE CAR NEXT TO ME. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND MY SERVICE AIR SUSPENSION IMMEDIATELY LIGHT CAME ON. NOW MY AIR RIDE SUSPENSION WILL NOT RAISE UP AND CANNOT DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE IT BOUNCES UNCONTROLLABLY. I WAS RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM AND READING ON DODGE RAM FORUMS THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON FOR THESE TRUCKS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND A SERIOUS MATTER. IT COULD HAVE EASILY COST ME OR SOMEBODY ELSE OUR LIFE! THIS WAS VERY SCARY! DODGE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS TO MAKE THIS RIGHT!

  20. Vehicle speed control, Mar 11, 2019

ACCELERATION/ CRUISE CONTROL ISSUE: I HAD THE VEHICLE'S CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED AT THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT (70 MPH) ON THE INTERSTATE. I ACCELERATED TO AVOID A BOTTLENECK IN AN AREA WHERE 3 LANES MERGED INTO TWO. WHEN I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I PUMPED THE BRAKE SEVERAL TIMES TO REDUCE THE SPEED, BUT I COULD NOT RESUME ACCELERATION BECAUSE THE GAS PEDAL LOCKED TO THE FLOOR. I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND COASTED TO THE SHOULDER. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, MANUALLY LIFTED THE PEDAL AND TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON. A DISPLAY MESSAGE STATED: SERVICE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL; BUT THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO OPERATE FINE. I HAD THIS EVENT HAPPEN TWO MORE TIMES. ONCE WAS IN A SIMILAR SCENARIO, THE OTHER I REPLICATED IT ON MY OWN. I CONTACTED THE RAM CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER, THEY ADVISED THAT I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS. IF IT IS DUE TO A RECALL IT WILL BE FIXED FOR FREE, OTHERWISE THE DIAGNOSIS COSTS AND REPAIR WILL BE ON ME. MY CONCERN IS THAT I HAD SEVERAL RECALLS FIXED ON NOVEMBER 23, 2018. THIS ISSUE HAD NEVER HAPPENED IN THE PAST UNTIL IT WAS SERVICED FOR THOSE RECALLS. I HAD AN INDIVIDUAL AT AUTOZONE ATTEMPT TO DOWNLOAD THE TROUBLE CODES; NO CODES WERE FOUND. I'VE READ FORUMS ONLINE ABOUT SIMILAR ISSUES, BUT DEALER(S) WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE DURING DIAGNOSIS. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 33,000 MILES.

  21. Suspension, Mar 10, 2019

AIR RIDE SUSPENSION FROZE UP WHEN TEMPS WENT BELOW ZERO. AIR RIDE DROPS TO BUMP STOPS WHILE DRIVING CAUSING HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS,WHICH HAS HAPPENED TO US WHILE HUNDREDS OF MILES FROM HOME. WITH NO SUSPENSION HITTING ANY TYPE OF BUMPS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO BOUNCE ANY DIRECTION AND VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, AND IS HARD ON THE BACK. IT WILL RISE AND ACT PROPERLY THEN JUST DROP TO BUMP STOPS IN A SHORT TIME WITH NO WARNING. THE PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, AND CITY STREETS IN MOTION. THE COMPONENT IN QUESTION IS THE IS THE ENCLOSED NITROGEN AIR RIDE SUSPENSION CONTROLLING THE COMPRESSOR AND AIR BAGS.

  22. Engine, Mar 5, 2019

MY WIFE AND I WERE ON A LONG ROAD TRIP WITH OUR INFANT DURING CHRISTMAS. ALL ASPECTS OF MY TRUCK WERE OPERATIONAL AND NO WARNING SIGNS. MY TRUCK IS AN ECODIESEL. ON THE WAY HOME THE TEMPS WERE BELOW FREEZING AND IT BEGAN TO RAIN. WE TRIED TO TURN THE HEAT ON IN THE TRUCK TO FIND THERE WAS NO HEAT. THE TRUCK WAS RUNNING AT NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE WITH NO SIGNS OF OVERHEATING. WE KEPT DRIVING UNTIL I COULD SAFELY EXIT THE HIGHWAY. WE FUELED UP AND I CHECKED THE TRUCK OVER VISUALLY BUT FOUND NO REASON FOR THE TRUCK TO HAVE NO HEAT AND STILL BE OPERATING UNDER NORMAL TEMPERATURES. WE RETURNED TO DRIVING AND HAD HEAT FOR A BRIEF MOMENT BEFORE IT STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. STILL THE TRUCK WAS OPERATING AT NORMAL TEMPERATURE. WHEN I FINALLY DECIDED TO CHECK THE ANTIFREEZE LEVEL, I LEARNED THAT THE TRUCK WAS VERY LOW AND DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TO FILL THE HEATER CORE, BUT JUST ENOUGH TO KEEP THE TRUCK FROM OVERHEATING. I ADDED ANTIFREEZE AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE TRUCK FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND COULD NOT DETERMINE WHERE THE LEAK WAS. FINALLY, AFTER READING SEVERAL OTHERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE, I DISCOVERED A HIDDEN LEAK IN THE EGR COOLER THAT WAS ESSENTIALLY LEAKING AND BURNING OFF IMMEDIATELY LEAVING NO TRACE BEHIND OF THE LEAK. IT EVENTUALLY GOT BAD ENOUGH THAT IT WOULD LEAVE COOLANT PUDDLES UNDER THE TRUCK. EVEN WITH THE POOL OF COOLANT UNDER THE TRUCK, THERE IS NO VISIBLE EVIDENCE OF THE LEAK EXCEPT FOR MINOR DAMPNESS AROUND ONE PORT OF THE EGR COOLER.

BOUGHT TRUCK AS A CPO IN MAY 2015, A MONTH INTO OWNERSHIP ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, CODE P26AB, ENGINE COOLANT BYPASS VALVE. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE ABLE TO GET ME INTO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO CHECK IT OUT. TECH SAID THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING, IT MUST BE AN OLD CODE THEY DID NOT ERASE. THEN ON 3/4/19 SAME CODE RETURNED, P26AB. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON 2013 RAM FOR THE SAME PROBLEM.

  24. Suspension, Mar 3, 2019

THE AIR RIDE SUSPENSION IN ALL OF THESE TRUCKS ARE FAILING IN CANADIAN COLD CLIMATES. MY TRUCK IS CONSISTENTLY RIDING ON THE BUMP STOPS WHEN IT'S COLD OUT CAUSING A VERY ROUGH RIDE THAT IS NOT GOOD FOR THE VEHICLE OR THE PASSENGERS. LET ALONE THE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IS DIMINISHED WITH ZERO SUSPENSION. WHEN IT GETS COLD (-15 OR SO) I WALK OUTSIDE TO SEE MY TRUCKS FRONT END ALL THE WAY LOWERED WITH THE REAR STILL AT NORMAL HEIGHT. WARMING UP TRUCK DOESN'T HELP. THE RIDE HEIGHT BUTTONS JUST FLASH AND WARNING SIGNS SOMETIMES DISPLAY ON THE DASH. MANY PEOPLE (INCLUDING ME) THEN GET BLOWN FUSES OR THE COMPRESSOR FAILS AND THEN THERE IS NO FIX BUT TO GO TO DEALER. DODGE REPLACED MY AIR RIDE COMPONENTS BUT IT DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. I FEAR FOR THE COMING YEAR WHEN MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND DRIVING WITH MY KIDS AND I AM DRIVING AROUND WITH NO SUSPENSION. THERE IS ENOUGH PEOPLE THAT HAVE THESE SAME ISSUES AS I'VE DESCRIBED TO WARRANT A RECALL. THERE ARE CLASS ACTION LAW SUITS IN THE USA OVER THIS ISSUE. THERE IS A FACEBOOK GROUP DESCRIBING THESE FAILURES FURTHER. GROUP IS CALLED FCA RAM PICKUP AIR SUSPENSION FAILURES. IT IS UNFATHOMABLE THAT I AM SUPPOSED TO BE DRIVING AROUND IN A VEHICLE WITH MY KIDS IN A TRUCK THAT I'VE PAID MANY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR THAT DOESN'T HAVE SUSPENSION AND NO HELP FROM DODGE. THIS SHOULD BE A BIG ISSUE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO HAVE A BAD ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS.

  25. Suspension, Mar 2, 2019

AIR SUSPENSION WILL FREEZE UP IN NEGATIVE TEMPERATURES. WHEN THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING TRUCK OVER BUMPS, CAUSES VEHICLE TO LOSE STABILITY/TRACTION ON THE ROAD, ESPECIALLY ON ICY ROADS - CAUSING HIGH RISK FOR AN ACCIDENT.
