  3. Power train, Feb 18, 2025

Valve body for 10 speed transmission suddenly malfunctioned while driving on I-95 at 60mph causing rear wheels to lock up for couple of seconds. Then, Engine rpm went to 5000. Error message displayed"reduced acceleration, drive with care" and "Unable to shift soon, service transmission soon". Upon taking to dealer, service advisor mentioned that it could be valve body issue. which is very common for these vehicles. After diagnosis from dealer, there were two codes: P0770 and P0776. Upon some research it was found that these issues are indeed very common for 10speed GM transmission. But, GM hasn't done much to address it. GM acknowledged the issue in their Oct, 2023 bulletin. This is a safety issue especially at highway speeds.

  4. Power train, Feb 17, 2025

Vehicle just lost propulsion and would not move. Engine was running but just came out of gear and went into neutral at 70mph. Pulled off highway and vehicle would not go back into drive. Would not go into any gear except park. After a while it went into drive and would not go over 30mph. Limped into a nearby dealership and dropped it off. It took GM 47 days to figure out the issue yet the new part was installed immediately. Some sort of computer calibration glitch and GM didn't know the answer till I threatened a lawsuit. Still not confident it was repaired correctly. Dealership was fine and informative but GM blew me off.

  5. Electrical system, Feb 13, 2025

Fuel module failure while driving, engine stalled and would not restart.., while at highway speed. Very dangerous situation!!!!! Tahoe was towed to dealership kept for. 1day. Chevy dealer replaced fuel module. We have owned 6 different Tahoes starting with the year 2015 to 2024. The fuel module failed on the 2021, 2022 and now the 2023!!!!!!! Makes us question if we should purchase a new Tahoe every other year? Seriously considering other car brands such as Ford, BMW or other more reliable brands!!!!

  6. Power train, Engine, Feb 11, 2025

Engine failed while driving down the road. There was not prior warning signs to this issue. Vehicle was unable to accelerate. The safety of myself and husband were put a risk as we were traveling on an Interstate 12 in Baton Rouge, LA. The vehicle was inspected by Pine Belt Chevy and the cause identified as Camshaft and lifters failed in the engine causing a sudden deacceleration.

  7. Service brakes, Feb 10, 2025

On a few occasions the emergency / parking brake auto releases when parked on a slight incline while the engine is running and transmission is in park.

  8. Engine, Feb 4, 2025

At 35,000 miles, my 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe started to misfire. When I pressed the accelerator, the truck started hesitating and the check engine light started flashing. I was able to get the truck to the dealer I purchased it at. The technician "claimed" it was a bad fuel injector. The dealer replaced the spark plug and injector. The vehicle was never test driven. I picked up the truck and drove it on the road. Within 1 mile, the truck started to misfire again with the check engine light started flashing. The dealer claimed that the lifter or lifters in one engine bank were bad. The dealer replaced the lifters on the one side of the engine.

  9. Engine, Feb 4, 2025

Engine knocking while accelerating. Told by Chevy dealership that a thruster is broken. Car is only 4 years old with 60k miles. Unfortunately, not under warranty. Quoted $5,000 for fix. No errors on dash or visuals of the problem.

  10. Electrical system, Feb 2, 2025

On 2 occasions the dash lights and gauges do not turn on when the vehicle is on. The first time this happened I was driving and was no longer able to see my speed or any other details provided by the gauges. We changed the fuse and it seemed to work for 1 day. The next day I turned the vehicle on, was able to drive but none of the dash features were functioning again. Will be taking to dealership when available scheduling to have it evaluated.

  11. Power train, Wheels, Jan 29, 2025

GM does not install TPMS devices in spare tires. I had a flat tire in snowy conditions 100+ miles from the nearest place for assistance. After putting on the spare tire the DIC (driver information center) displayed no air in tire. That’s because a TPMS doesn’t exist in spare tires. I started driving a my four wheel drive turned off. I turned it back on and after a very short distance it turned off again. Since the vehicle determined I didn’t have air in one of the tires (spare previously mentioned) the four wheel drive shouldn’t work to prevent damage. I needed the four wheel drive in the snow so I had to proceed at approximately 25 mph. This is a safety issue for not only my vehicle but others on the roadways. I contacted the dealer that had no idea about the problem and neither did the national GM customer support center. There is a tool that “tells” the vehicle where each tire is located so that is low tire pressure occurs the driver would know which tire needs attention. If a TPMS was installed from the factory and a flat occurred, spare installed then the four wheel drive would function. If a flat subsequently occurred the driver would still be alerted but wouldn’t know tire was involved. Visual check would find it. Either this or have GM provide an override so the trip could be continued safely. I believe that this situation applies to any four wheel drive vehicle not just GM and should be resolved if the NHTSB would initiate an investigation.

  12. Engine, Jan 28, 2025

2021 Chevrolet Tahoe Engine began misfiring and check engine light and ESC warning indicators displayed as I was driving. I pulled over and shut off vehicle, read manual and restarted engine. Same problems occurred, so I drove to Chevrolet dealer which was a mile away. The advisors said I shouldn’t drive it on the expressway or any further since engine had known problems that GM was aware of and it would blow up. Scans showed P0300 & P0305 for Cylinder 5 misfire. Major Repair included replacement of all lifters and push rods on both banks and the camshaft taking 17 days. This engine should have a GM Recall due to its severity. I was told the engine usually blows up before the warranty period is over and GM would just fix it. Unfortunately for me, my engine failed after full warranty and while I was traveling out of state to a family wedding, costly me directly. GM did pay half of the cost of repair which indicates admitting fault. The major safety concern is when an engine blows up and the driver cannot control the vehicle causing accidents or fire (and being stranded). There were No previous indications or symptoms of engine failure prior to date the problem occurred. Police departments in Illinois have had the same problem with this engine and their entire Tahoe fleet needed a new / repaired engine. This is an unacceptable action by GM to just wait for the problem to occur instead of proactively recalling the engine for repair.

  13. Service brakes, Hydraulic, Jan 27, 2025

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the brakes failed to function as intended. In addition, the contact noticed a grinding sound and several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with brake master cylinder failure. The contact was informed that the brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the brake master cylinder had been replaced two times since October 2024 and needed to be replaced a third time. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was provided a monetary discount towards the cost of the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

  14. Engine, Jan 26, 2025

This is a fairly new vehicle, so to be told we need a new engine when we’ve had the car for only 4 years is ridiculous! We were driving one day and heard a knocking sound coming from the front of the car. We made it home, but when we tried to leave the next time, we only made it halfway down our driveway when we heard a loud knocking noise from the front and the car suddenly stopped. We were dead in the water and needed to get the car towed back to our house. The gear shift was also stuck in drive and we couldn’t turn the car on. The engine had completely seized up. The tow truck driver had to get underneath the vehicle in order to disengage the gear shift and allow us to shift into neutral so that we could get it back home. When we had it towed to our mechanic, they told us that it was a bearing failure and the connecting rod had caused our engine to seize up. I’m just glad we weren’t on a major highway or busy street at the time this took place. This is supposed to be our family vehicle and it has been out of commission for more than 6 months because we haven’t been able to afford to replace the engine. We’ve tried contacting GM directly, but they said we were beyond our warranty and there was nothing they could do to help us.

  15. Engine, Jan 21, 2025

GM has a known issue with engine lifters on this model engine that fail around 60,000 miles. Customer service managers even stated so themselves and GM has a TSB related to this. Repair bill is $5K-$6K if it doesn’t bend the cam shaft and upwards of $10K if cam is bent. This is a huge safety issue because vehicle fails while in motion, shakes violently, and numerous safety features the driver relies on turn off.

  16. Engine, Jan 20, 2025

My wife was driving the vehicle when all of a sudden the engine started knocking and throwing a bunch of codes. The engine has a bottom end knock and it seems this is a known problem with these engines.

  17. Engine, Jan 19, 2025

Vehicle has no warning of issues. Regular maintenance had been performed and had 80k miles. Driving down a 4 lane the engine locked up and lost power. We have been waiting on it to be repaired for 4 months now. The engine is back ordered from GM and no one can find used ones. We found a refurbished one but it also locked up within 30 minutes of being installed. I was warrantied so now we are having ours rebuilt but is costing us $14k.

This issue is particularly concerning as there is an existing recall on the 2021 Tahoe for a transmission problem that can cause the rear wheels to lock up or result in the vehicle suddenly losing the ability to shift, as explained by a GMC transmission technician. Attempts to Resolve: I have contacted multiple dealerships to attempt to get my transmission diagnosed. Unfortunately, all dealerships within my area are backed up with transmission work for 4-6 weeks. I have spoken to multiple dealership service departments and have been informed that there are numerous vehicles currently experiencing this same exact issue. Some vehicles are continuing to drive, while others are being stranded on the side of the road, unable to shift. Safety Concern: The safety concern, as stated in the recall, is that my rear wheels may lock up or my vehicle may suddenly lose the ability to shift. This is particularly alarming for me as I have to drive over a large steep bridge every day to go to work, and there is no emergency lane while traversing the bridge. I am terrified to continue driving, but I only have one vehicle for my family (this 2021 Tahoe) and no dealership has a loaner vehicle available due to the high quantity of transmission errors. Conclusion: Given the severity of the issue and the potential safety risks, I urgently request assistance in addressing this transmission problem as soon as possible. The current situation is untenable and poses a significant danger to my safety and the safety of others on the road. 22. Engine, Forward collision avoidance, Dec 22, 2024

On [XXX] I was driving in the [XXX] in El Paso Texas at about [XXX] I was about to enter [XXX} and the vehicle suddenly stopped with no warning! I was able to pull to the side and put the blinkers because the traffic was heavy and could of had a vehicle crash into me if I had not maneuver the vehicle quickly(My two daughters where with me in the vehicle). The vehicle prompted to start the vehicle, which I did so and continued my way. As soon as I was able to get into the [XXX] the check engine light turned on, and the forward collision warning message on the display. I stopped to my nearest Autozone to get some help as the vehicle started to make a noise too. They connected their computer and told me that the vehicle was given a message of a faulty cylinder, they told me I should not move the vehicle until I had it inspected on a GM dealership. Which I did on Friday December 20, 2024, I am waiting for a full diagnostic to see what had happened to my vehicle. 23. Electrical system, Dec 18, 2024

vehicle infotainment system will randomly "restart" or shut off completely when vehicle is being drove, but will still be playing music also all time and temperature (outside temp) will freeze when this happens. it also make the battery drain when this happens. the only way to get the screen to come back on weve tried is to disconnect battery. weve replaced the battery, weve had a chevy dealership look into it. no one can figure out what is happening. Now it is happening more and more. we also do not receive updates anymore to the infotainment system. the dealership had to manually do it a year ago. also will not keep our proifile signed in at all. always says were stuck in guest mode. says we have full storage when there is not any apps downloaded.
