Recalls and investigations

  1. Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. PIRELLI TIRE TYPE P235/50 ZR18 97W RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW APART WHILE DRIVING AT A STEADY 65 MPH ON A STRAIGHT SECTION OF THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY . THE CAR BEGAN TO VEER FROM SIDE TO SIDE BUT I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP AT MILE 119.9 . CALLED AAA & THEY SENT REPAIRMAN FROM P&J TOWING TO CHANGE TO THE SPARE. TIRE WAS PURCHASED FROM HOLMAN FORD, TURNERSVILLE, NJ. WHEN CONTACTED THEY DIRECTED US TO CONTACT PIRELLI. WHEN CONTACTED, PIRELLI TOLD US TO HAVE FORD SHIP THE FAILED TIRE TO THEM SO "THEIR LAB" COULD EXAMINE IT. I INFORMED THE PIRELLI REPRESENTATIVE I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE OTHER 3 TIRES ON THE CAR FAILING IN THE SAME MANNER BUT HE OFFERED NOTHING. I WAS TOLD TO PURCHASE A REPLACEMENT AND THEY WOULD OFFER A PRORATED REFUND. THE TIRE WAS GIVEN TO FORD TO SHIP TO PIRELLI & REPLACEMENT TIRE WAS PURCHASED AT A COST OF $200. I WENT IN FOR A ROUTINE TIRE ROTATION. THE SHOP WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE MY TIRES, AS MOST OF THE LUG NUTS WERE SWOLLEN. SHOP TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO REMOVE MY TIRE IF STUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE, ALL BECAUSE FORD MANUFACTURED THE LUG NUTS WITH A 'SOLDERED CAP" UNLIKE MOST WHICH ARE ONE PIECE. THE SOLDERED CAP LEAKS WATER INSIDE, WHICH FREEZES AND CAUSES THE LUG NUT TO SWELL, AND NO LONGER FIT THE TIRE WRENCH.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.

MY CAR OVER HEATED WHILE DRIVING. SO I PULLED OVER AND LET IT COOL DOWN. I THEN TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW CYLINDER HEAD WHEN ASKED WHY IT OVER HEATED THEY REFEREED TO THE COOLANT SYSTEM BUT DIDN'T KNOW WHY THE COOLANT WAS GETTING THERE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE THE WAY THEY EXPLAINED EVERYTHING SEEMS VERY SIMILAR TO THE RECALL NUMBER 17V209000 OR FORD RECALL NUMBER 17S09

AT FREEWAY SPEED, THE TRANSMISSION ON OUR 2014 FORD ESCAPE FAILED, CAUSING THE CAR TO IMMEDIATELY SLOW DOWN. MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR ONTO THE FREEWAY SHOULDER. PER THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CAR WAS TOWED, THEY SEE A LOT OF THESE TRANSMISSIONS FAILING. THE CAR HAD AROUND 60,000 MILES, WHICH IS FAR TOO EARLY FOR A TRANSMISSION FAILURE. FORD CLAIMS THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE SINCE THERE IS NO RECALL FOR FAILING TRANSMISSIONS. THE NHTSA MUST ACT BEFORE A SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH OCCURS AS A RESULT OF THE POOR DESIGN OR MANUFACTURE OF THESE TRANSMISSIONS. MANY OF THESE CARS ARE COMING INTO THE SAME MILEAGE AS OUR VEHICLE, SO THE NUMBERS OF THESE FAILURES WILL BEGIN TO SURGE.

I TOOK MY CAR FOR RECALL ON COOLING SYSTEM TO REPUBLIC FORD IN SPRINGFIELD,MISSOURI ON APRIL1ST AND PICK IT UP ON APRIL 4TH ON APRIL 10TH ALERT COME UP LOW ON ANTIFREEZE SO I TOOK MY CAR BACK TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ( KRIS BISHOP) SERVICE ADVISOR AND I EXPLAIN TO HIM MY PROBLEM WAITED ABOUT 30 MINUTES AND I TOLD ME I AM READY TO GO AND THE PROBLEM FIXED. I TRUSTED HIM WHEN I WENT HOME AND CHECKED THE ANTIFREEZE LEVEL WAS AND STILL UNDER THE MINIMUM. I CALLED THE DEALER SHOP AND THE LADY WHO ANSWER THE CALL TRANSFER MY ALL TO SERVICE RING FOR GOOD 5 MINUTES AND LOST THE CALL. IF THE LOCATION OF THE ANTIFREEZE STORAGE EASY TO GET TO IT I JUST GO BUY SOME AND REFILL IT MY SELF. I UNDERSTAND MY VEHICLE IS NOT BOUGHT FROM THEM AND I USE THEM FOR MY OIL CHANGE DOESN'T MEAN TREAD ME THIS WAY.

ITS WAS FLASHING WHITE AND BLACK AND THEN BLACK WITH A WHITE LINE THRU IT AFTER IT KELLY FLASHING TURNING RED GREEN ORANGE WITH LIME JUST RUNNING THRU THE SCREEN.THEN ABOUT 10 MINUTES TOPS IT WAS GONE OUT.. IT ONLY TAKES ME 12 MINUTES TO GET HOME FROM WORK AND IT DIDN'T LAST THAT LONG SO TOOK IT BACK TO MY DEALERSHIP AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT WRONG WITH IT. BUT I HAVE NO RADIO AND NO CAMERA. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE AROUND NOT KNOWING WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE TRUCK AND ONE NIGHT IT MAKE A SPARK AS I WAS SITTING WITH IT RUNNING AT A FAST FOOD DRIVE THRU. THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE FRONT VENTS SO IT PARKED IT AND CALLED THE TOW TRUCK. QUICK TOWED IT BACK TO THE DEALER WHO STILL COULDN'T FIGURE OUT A PROBLEM THEY JUST DISCONNECTED THE WIRING COMPLETELY SO I'M WORSE OFF AS FAR AS IT GOES TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM . LOW COOLANT LIGHT APPEARED. HAD OIL CHANGED/FLUIDS TOPPED. A WEEK LATER, COOLANT LIGHT APPEARED AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT BACK TO PLACE THAT CHANGED MY OIL. COOLANT WAS NOT LOW. THEY USED A DIAGNOSTIC CODE READER THAT INDICATED CYLINDER 2 HAD MISFIRED 3 TIMES (I WAS UNAWARE). A FEW DAYS LATER, TOOK IT TO HAVE CHECKED (FIRESTONE). THEY USED A DIAGNOSTIC CODE THAT SAID THE SAME THING BUT ONE OF THE MECHANICS RELATED HE HAD JUST FIXED A FORD ESCAPE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND THAT THEY HAD THEN FIGURED OUT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM. FORD SAYS MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THERE HAS BEEN NO LEAK NOTED THIS ENTIRE TIME. THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF. I DROVE IT APPROXIMATELY 25 MINUTES, WENT IN TO A BUSINESS FOR 2 HOURS, CAME BACK OUT AND STARTED THE CAR, PULLED OUT OF THE PARKING LOT AND SAW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND A MESSAGE THAT THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING AND PULL OVER SAFELY (WHICH I DID IMMEDIATELY). THERE WAS NO OBVIOUS SIGN THAT THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING (STEAM, ODOR, LEAKING, ETC). THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY START, BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL. HAD IT TOWED TO JOHNSON CITY FORD WHICH TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO DROP THE ENGINE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE ($1700) AND THAT THE TOTAL REPAIR JOB WOULD COST BETWEEN $3500-$7000+ DEPENDING ON THE CAUSE AND DAMAGE (MAY HAVE TO HAVE A NEW MOTOR!). HE THEN TOLD ME IT WOULD BE ABOUT 3 +WEEKS BEFORE THEY COULD REPAIR IT SINCE THERE ARE 5 JUST LIKE IT WAITING TO BE SERVICED! I QUESTIONED HIM ABOUT THIS. HE RELATED THAT THERE WERE 5 FORD ESCAPES WITH A COOLANT LOW/OVERHEATING ISSUE CURRENTLY IN THEIR SHOP. MY VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW. IT IS GARAGE KEPT AND SERVICED REGULARLY. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW A VEHICLE THAT IS WELL-KEPT AND HAS UNDER 90,000 MILES CAN SUDDENLY, WITHOUT WARNING OR REASON, HAVE THIS KIND OF ISSUE? WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE?
