Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Power train, automatic transmission, gear position indication (prndl)Jun 10, 2022
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Ford Escape, and 2013-2016 Ford Fusion vehicles, equipped with six-speed automatic transmissions. The bushing that attaches the transmission shifter cable to the transmission may degrade over time and cause the bushing to detach from the transmission. The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to Park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in Park, with no warning message or audible chime.
If the vehicle is exited without the transmission being in Park and without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing, free of charge. The recall began September 20, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. The improperly manufactured bolts may fracture. If a seat, seatback, or seatbelt anchor attaching bolt fractures, the affected component may not be properly secured, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected bolts, free of charge. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed September 8, 2017. If the vehicle is started and driven with an insufficient level of coolant within the engine cooling system, the engine cylinder head may overheat, crack and leak oil.
If the cylinder head cracks and leaks oil, the oil may contact a hot engine or exhaust component, increasing the risk of a fire.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install a coolant level sensor and the supporting hardware and software, free of charge. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed April 21, 2017. The recall began on January 5, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. ONCE AGAIN VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AFTER BEING PARKED FOR OVER AN HOUR. TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO START. ALL DASH LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS, RADIO, WINDOWS, ETC. WOULD FUNCTION, BUT NO INDICATION OF IGNITION WHEN KEY WAS TURNED. TRIED BOTH KEYS TO MAKE SURE IT WAS NOT A BAD KEY. NEITHER KEY WORKED. LEFT CAR WHERE PARKED OVERNIGHT AND RETURNED IN THE MORNING. CAR STARTED. CALLED DEALER AND IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT I DRIVE THE CAR IN, RATHER THAN HAVE IT TOWED IN. I DID. I LEFT THE CAR AT THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED LATER THAT DAY THAT THEY HAD BEEN ABLE TO VERIFY MY COMPLIANT. THEY INDICATED THAT IT WAS A BUILD UP OF RESISTANCE IN A WIRE THEN THE ENGINE WAS HOT. IT WAS WRAPPED AND I WAS ASSURED THE I WOULD NO LONGER HAVE THE PROBLEM. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT SOME 2013-14 FORD ESCAPES HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR INSUFFICIENT COMPRESSION OF CASING AROUND THE WIRING, CAUSING EXACTLY THE PROBLEMS I HAVE BEEN HAVING. ALL THE POTENTIAL PROBLEMS LISTED IN THE RECALL, SHORT OF A POSSIBLE CRASH HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCED TO DATE! MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED AT ONE OF THE AFFECTED ASSEMBLY PLANTS DURING THE AFFECTED DATES. HOWEVER, THE RECALL INDICATES 2.0 LITER ENGINES. MINE IS A 1.6 LITER ENGINE. THEREFORE, DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME AND ASSURED ME THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN SOLVED. I REQUESTED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS BE REPLACED BECAUSE I FELT UNSAFE IN MY VEHICLE AND WAS AFRAID THAT IT WOULD STOP SUDDENLY AND I COULD CRASH. I WAS TOLD THAT REPAIR WAS NOT POSSIBLE, BECAUSE MY SPECIFIC VIN WAS NOT RECALLED. I WAS ASSURED THAT I SHOULD HAVE NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. I ACCEPTED THE RETURN OF MY VEHICLE, WITH THE ASSURANCE THAT IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN, WE WOULD ESCALATE MY REQUEST FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE WIRING HARNESS. THE DEALER HAD MY CAR FOR OVER A WEEK. *TR

VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AFTER BEING PARKED FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR. TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO START, HEADLIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE, BUT THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF ANY POWER GOING TO ENGINE TO START. NO CLICKING (AS WITH A DEAD BATTERY - ALL LIGHTS WERE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY). WAITED 10 MINUTES AND IT STARTED. TURNED IT OFF BRIEFLY TO GO INSIDE TO TELL SHOP OWNER THAT CAR HAD STARTED. CAME BACK OUT, IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN. TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO RESTART AND IT WOULD NOT. LEFT CAR WHERE PARKED AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE CAR TO DEALER IN THE MORNING. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO START EACH TIME. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND TO PICK UP MY CAR. WHICH I DID. *TR

BACKED OUT OF DRIVEWAY, PUT CAR IN GEAR AND "ENGINE MALFUNCTION" WARNING BOX CAME UP ON DASHBOARD. PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL AND BACK INTO DRIVE. WARNING BOX DISAPPEARED, BUT EXCLAMATION POINT IN TRIANGLE WAS ON DASHBOARD. DEPRESSED GAS PEDAL AND CAR MOVED FORWARD VERY SLOWLY WITH HESITATION AND JERKING POWER SURGES. DROVE APPROXIMATELY 2-3 BLOCKS AS HESITATION, JERKING AND LACK OF POWER CONTINUED. WENT BACK HOME AND CALLED TOW TRUCK TO TAKE CAR TO DEALER. TACHOMETER WAS ERRATIC AND BOUNCING AROUND, WHEN CAR IDLED. CAR STARTED FINE SEVERAL TIMES, BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OR RUN NORMALLY. DEALER VERIFIED COMPLAINT, AND REPAIRED AFFECTING WIRING. *TR

Service brakes, Mar 11, 2015
THE VEHICLE BRAKES HAD BEEN MAKING A GRINDING NOISE, SPECIFICALLY WHILE BACKING UP. AFTER A TRIP TO THE DEALER THEY STATED THERE WERE NO ISSUES. A FEW MONTH LATER (AT NIGHT) THE VEHICLES BRAKES BECAME GRABBY, GRINDING, AND SQUEALING, CAUSING THE ABS SYSTEM TO ACTIVATE THINKING THE VEHICLE TIRES WERE LOCKED UP AND SLIDING. THE VEHICLE THEN SLID OFF THE ROAD. I INSPECTED THE BRAKES THE FOLLOWING MORNING AND FOUND THAT ROTORS WERE HEAVILY DAMAGED WITH GOUGES AND GROOVES. THEY LOOKED AS THOUGH THEY HAD 60K MILES ON THEM IN-LIEU-OF THE ACTUAL 11,454, AND AS THOUGH THE PADS WERE WORN AND HAD DAMAGED THE ROTORS. THE PADS ACTUALLY SHOWED LITTLE TO NO WEAR HOWEVER THE ROTORS HAD SEVERE PREMATURE DAMAGE. THE DEALER RELUCTANTLY CHANGED THE ROTORS AND PADS. THIS SEEMS TO ME TO BE EITHER AN ENGINEERING ISSUE OR BAD PARTS, RESULTING IN PREMATURE PARTS FAILURE. THIS ISSUE CAN LEAD TO BRAKE FAILURE AND A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT. *TR
Steering, Electrical system, Feb 17, 2015
CAR JUST EXITED THE HIGHWAY. DROVE APPROXIMATELY A QUARTER MILE AND MADE A RIGHT TURN. THE STEERING LOCKED UP IN MID TURN. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO CARS PARKED ON THIS PARTICULAR STREET OR THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. MANAGED TO STRAIGHTEN WHEEL AND ABLE TO PULL IN A PARKING SPOT. CAR'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTED SHUTTING DOWN TO SAVE BATTERY POWER. HAD CAR TOWED TO FORD DEALER. THEY SAY THE ALTERNATOR WAS WEAK. FIVE DAYS AFTER THE INCIDENT AND STILL WAITING FOR THE PART. LOST CONFIDENCE IN THE PRODUCT. CAR IS NINE MONTHS OLD. *TR

WHILE ACCELERATING TO PASS A SLOWER VEHICLE THE ENGINE STARTED STUMBLING AND WENT INTO SOME TYPE OF LIMP MODE AND LOST POWER. I HAD TO RAPIDLY PULL BACK INTO THE SLOWER LANE TO AVOID HAVING CARS BEHIND ME REAR-END ME. I STOPPED THE CAR, TURNED IT OFF , AND WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR THE PROBLEM WAS GONE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER BUT THEY STATED THERE WAS NO ERROR CODES STORED IN THE ECU SO THEY COULDN'T DIAGNOSE OR FIX THE PROBLEM. THEN A FEW MONTHS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN JUST LIKE BEFORE- I WAS PASSING A SLOWER VEHICLE AND SUDDENLY THE CAR WENT INTO A LIMP MODE AND I LOST POWER AND HAD TO QUICKLY PULL BACK INTO THE SLOW LANE TO AVOID HAVING CARS FROM BEHIND REAR-END ME. THIS TIME I HAD MY WIFE USE HER PHONE TO VIDEO THE ENGINE FAILURE LIGHTS ON THE DASH.AGAIN I HAD TO STOP MY CAR, TURN IT OFF, AND WHEN I RESTARTED THE CARS IT WAS OK. AND AGAIN I TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT FORD DEALER, I SHOWED THEM THE VIDEO OF THE PROBLEM OCCURRING, BUT AGAIN THEY COULDN'T FIND AN ERROR CODE SO THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO TAKE THIS CAR ON TRIPS BECAUSE SHE IS AFRAID THE PROBLEM WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND SHE WILL BE REAR-ENDED. I DID SOME INTERNET RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER DRIVERS DESCRIBING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THE TWO FORD DEALERS WE TOOK THE CAR NEVER TOLD US THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND THERE HAVE RECALLS FOR THE OLDER ESCAPES FOR THE SAME ISSUE. NHTSA CAN YOU HELP BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR

APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH AFTER PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE STRONG GAS FUMES WERE DETECTED COMING INSIDE THE CAR THROUGH THE VENTILATION SYSTEM. THE PROBLEM OCCURS ONLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS RESTARTED AFTER BEING WARMED UP. STILL UNDER WARRANTY WE RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. THEY REPLACED A SHORT SECTION OF FLEXIBLE MANIFOLD HOSE THAT HAD DEVELOPED A CRACK. THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE RETURNING. AGAIN THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE SAME HOSE. THE REPAIR LASTED ABOUT ANOTHER MONTH OR SO. THE THIRD TIME IT WAS SERVICED THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE HOSE BUT WRAPPED IT WITH SILICONE DUCT TAPE TO SEAL IT. THIS REPAIR LASTED LESS THAN A WEEK. AGAIN GAS FUMES WERE DETECTED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. IT APPEARS THAT THE FORD COMPANY DOES NOT HAVE ANY IDEA HOW TO PERMANENTLY FIX THE PROBLEM. AT LEAST 3 OTHER INCIDENTS INVOLVING THE SAME MODEL VEHICLE HAVE OCCURRED AT THIS DEALERSHIP. IS THIS ANOTHER LOOMING RECALL? HOW MANY OTHER 2014 FORD ESCAPE OWNERS NATIONWIDE HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE? *TR

WE WERE ABLE TO QUICKLY REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AS THE BREAKAGE CAUSED US TO SLOW DOWN AND SWERVE. THERE WERE NO OTHER COLLISIONS OR DAMAGE AFTER THE SUNROOF BROKE. AS NO OBJECT OR PROJECTILE CAUSED THE BREAKAGE AND THERE WAS NO PRIOR DAMAGE TO THE SUNROOF, IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THERE WAS A FAULT WITH EITHER THE GLASS OR SUNROOF ASSEMBLY. *TR

THIS IS ONE OF MANY OCCURRENCES CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM. MY FIRST COMMUNICATION WITH FORD SERVICE WAS IN DECEMBER 2013 CONCERNING THE DOOR HANDLE STICKING CAUSING THE DOOR NOT TO LATCH. IN JANUARY 2014 THEY ASKED FOR A PHOTO OF THE PROBLEM TO SHARE WITH THEIR ENGINEERING TEAM. FORD HAS ISSUED CASE NUMBERS AND BASICALLY JUST TOLD ME TO BRING IT INTO THE DEALER. I'VE HAD MULTIPLE COMMUNICATION WITH FORD SERVICE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR INFORMING THEM THAT I STILL HAVE THE ISSUE. THE DEALER HAS TRIED TO FIX FOUR TIMES INCLUDING APPLYING THE RECALL. THE LAST DEALER ATTEMPT WAS IN NOVEMBER 2014 BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE DOOR HAS OPENED WHEN I WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY DUE TO THE HANDLE STICKING IN THE OPEN POSITION.THE DOOR HANDLE HAS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION WELL OVER A HUNDRED TIMES. I'VE SHARED PHOTOS OF THE ISSUE WITH THE DEALER, FORD SERVICE AND OVER THE INTERNET. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE HIGH 20'S I HEARD A LOUD POP SIMILAR TO A GUN SHOT AND THEN LOOKED BACK AND MY REAR WINDOW JUST STARTED TO SPIDER. I WAS ONLY IN THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES. I PULLED OVER AND THERE WERE NO IMPACT MARKS AND THE GLASS ON EACH SIDE OF THE WINDOW HAD FALLEN OFF BUT THE REST OF THE GLASS WAS IN TACT. THERE WERE VERTICAL STRESS FRACTURES ON EACH FAR SIDE OF THE GLASS AND SPIDERING ON THE REST OF THE GLASS TOWARD THE MIDDLE. FORD LET ME KNOW THAT THIS HAD BEEN HAPPENING TO F150'S RECENTLY BUT NOT IN NEW ESCAPES AND THEY REFUSED TO PAY FOR IT. THEY ADVISED THAT SOMETHING MUST OF IMPACTED THE WINDOW BUT WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY FURTHER CLARIFICATION. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE GLASS ALSO AND SUBMITTED THEM TO FORD'S CORPORATION AND ALSO THE DEALERSHIP, MOON TOWNSHIP FORD. THEY STILL WOULD NOT PAY. IT SEEMS THIS HAS BEEN A CONTINUING PATTERN FOR FORD ESCAPES THROUGHOUT THE PAST DECADE. *TR

WHILE DRIVING DONE THE ROAD, A LOUD POP WAS HEARD. MY 3 YEAR OLD POINTED TO THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF AND SAID LOOK. IT HAD FALLEN INWARD ON THE BACK OF THE GLASS WHILE THE FRONT OF THE GLASS STAYED ATTACHED, CRACKING THE GLASS. PIECES OF GLASS FELL INTO THE BACK SEAT AND ALL IN MY SONS LAP. FORD HAS HAD RECALLS ON CERTAIN VIN NUMBERS BUT NOT MINE, EPOXY BEING MIXED INCORRECTLY CAUSING GLASS TO BECOME SEPARATED. *TR

MY WIFE PULLED UP DRIVEWAY, I HAPPENED TO BE OUTSIDE NEXT TO CAR WHEN SHE PULLED IN. WE SUDDENLY HEARD LOUD CRUNCHING SOUND AND SHE STOPPED. WHEN WE FOUND NOTHING I ASKED HER TO BACK UP. WE HEARD CRUNCHING SOUND AGAIN AND SHE SAID THE STEERING WHEEL WAS NOT CONTROLLING CAR. SHE IMMEDIATELY STOPPED. WE DISCOVERED RIGHT FRONT WHEEL PUSHED AGAINST TIRE WELL OF BODY FRAME. NEXT DAY WHEN TOW TRUCK LIFTED CAR, WE DISCOVERED THE BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY HAD COME APART. PERRY FORD (SAN DIEGO) CONFIRMED BALL JOINT APPEARS TO HAVE COME APART WITHOUT ANY OBVIOUS SIGN OF DAMAGE DUE TO IMPACT OR DRIVER FAULT. NOTE: MY WIFE HAD JUST COME OFF FREEWAY, TRAVELING 15 MILES FROM WORK AND 1 MILE FROM OFF RAMP TO OUR HOME. IF SHE HAD BEEN JUST ANOTHER 5 MIN ON FREEWAY TRAVELING 65-70MPH...I HATE TO IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER WITH FORD. *TR

I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT UNDER ODI# 10640819 AT 3.5 MONTHS AND NOW I'M AT 7 MONTHS AND FORD DOES NOT HAVE A FIX. HOW ARE THEY ALLOWED TO EXTEND CUSTOMERS THIS LONG AND NOTHING IS DONE TO THEM. WHAT CAN I DO TO FORD TO GET MY VEHICLE REPAIRED? MY CLOCK ALSO HAS BEEN TAMPERED WITH AND SOME ELECTRONICS ACT STUPID AT TIMES. MY FORD DEALER SAYS ITS FORD BUT WHO KNOWS? IF THEY DO NOT HAVE A FIX THEN GIVE ME A NEW CAR THAT WORKS. FORD IS USELESS AND NO ONE CARES AS THEY KEEP SAYING I'M SORRY. *TR
