DRIVER DOOR AJAR SENSOR REMAINS ON EVEN THOUGH DOOR IS SECURELY CLOSED, EVEN ON REPEAT ATTEMPTS TO CLOSE THE DOOR. THIS CAUSES THE DOORS NOT TO LOCK AND ALLOWS DOORS TO BE OPENED EVEN WHEN CAR IS IN MOTION.

REAR BRAKE CALIPERS, ROTORS AND PADS WERE FROZEN AND RUINED. CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. THE INTERNET MAKES CLEAR THAT MANY OTHER EXPLORER OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. A RECALL IS REQUIRED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY BECAUSE IT COULD NOT MOVE WITH FROZEN REAR BRAKES.

KEYPAD FAILED. 16 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER WAS ACCIDENTALLY LOCKED IN STATIONARY CAR WHILE KEYS REMAINED INSIDE. THE KEYPAD, WHICH WORKED PREVIOUSLY, FAILED TO WORK. THE SITUATION WAS SO DIRE (AS IT WAS OVER 90 DEGREES THAT DAY) THAT POLICE WERE CALLED TO BREAK THE WINDOW. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP FOR EXAMINATION AND DETERMINED THAT THE KEYPAD DID IN FACT NEED TO BE REPLACED. HUGE SAFETY HAZARD AS THE CAR CANNOT BE UNLOCKED IF ACCIDENTALLY LOCKED WITH KEYS REMAINING INSIDE. KEYPAD IS THE ONLY OPTION...WE WERE IN DISBELIEF THAT IT FAILED AND WANT OTHER FORD EXPLORER OWNERS TO BE MADE AWARE OF A POSSIBLE KEYPAD FAILURE ISSUE SO THAT THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE.

UNPLEASANT FOUL ODOR EMITTED INTO PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WHENEVER ACCELERATING WITHIN MID TO HIGH RPM RANGE SUCH AS WHEN PASSING OR PULLING A GRADE. FUMES SMELL SIMILAR TO ROTTEN EGGS OR SULFUR. FOUL ODOR CAUSES HEADACHES DURING PERIODS OF EXTENDED EXPOSURE SUCH AS WHEN DRIVING FOR SEVERAL HOURS. THIS CONDITION HAS EXISTED EVER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS A STRONG ODOR COMING FROM THE AIR CONDITIONING VENT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE ODOR CAUSED THE CONTACT TO HAVE HEAD PRESSURE, DIZZINESS, EYES SORES, EYE PAIN, AND INABILITY TO SLEEP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (TED BRITT FORD FAIRFAX, 11165 FAIRFAX BLVD, FAIRFAX, VA 22030) WHERE IT WAS CLEANED, BUT THE CONTACT DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. EVEN AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS CLEANED, THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.

I PURCHASED MY USED 2013 FORD EXPLORER FROM KEN GARFF FORD IN ST. GEORGE UTAH IN FEBRUARY 2017. AT FIRST I NOTICED A SMELL, SIMILAR TO A PROPANE SMELL, COMING FROM THE HEATING SYSTEM. THEN I NOTICED IT WAS REALLY BAD WHEN THE CAR WAS IDLING. THEN IT GOT WORSE WHEN THE WEATHER WARMED UP AND I USED THE AIR CONDITIONING. WE HAD TO ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN TO AIR IT OUT. IT WAS MAKING ME SICK. IT SEEMS TO BE THE WORSE WHEN IT IS ACCELERATING AND WHEN IT IS IDLING. I TOOK IT TO KEN GARFF FORD IN ST. GEORGE UTAH AND THEY REPLACED SOME OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. THEY SAID THEY REPLACED THE SAME PARTS THAT THEY HAD REPLACED FOR THE ENTIRE LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPLORERS IN OUR COUNTY (WASHINGTON COUNTY, UT) IT COST ME OVER 500 DOLLARS. IT DID NOT FIX IT. IT SEEMED TO BE WORSE.THEY HAVE NOW ORDERED MORE PARTS AND SAID IT WILL COST ME OVER 500 DOLLARS AGAIN. THAT'S OVER $1,000 SO FAR. AND OVER THE LAST SIX MONTH I HAVE HAD HEADACHES ALMOST EVERY DAY. I AM KNOWN TO HAVE MIGRAINES BUT THIS IS NOW EXTREME. MY DOCTOR CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY I WAS NOW HAVING SO MANY HEADACHES AND MANY MORE MIGRAINES. NOW THAT I KNOW THE EXPLORER HAS FUME ISSUES I BELIEVE IT IS THE FUMES FROM THE CAR THAT ARE CAUSING THE HEADACHES AND MAKE ME FEEL SICK SO OFTEN. I FINALLY RESEARCHED ONLINE IF THE REPAIRS ARE WORKING AND IT SEEMS THAT FIXING IT THE WAY FORD HAS TOLD THE DEALERS TO FIX IT THAT THE RESPONSE IS THAT IT DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I AGREE HAVING PUT MONEY INTO IT ALREADY AND IT ACTUALLY SEEMS WORSE. I DO NOT WANT TO SINK MORE MONEY INTO IT AND I FEEL THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS IF THE REPAIRS DO WORK. ALSO MY JOB REQUIRES THAT I TRAVEL A LOT AND I USUALLY PUT OVER 20,000 A YEAR ON MY VEHICLES. I CAN NOT CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR AND TO FEEL SO SICK WHEN I DO. PLEASE ADVICE. THANK YOU,

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHEN THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE PREVIOUSLY OCCURRED WHILE ACCELERATING AFTER BEING PARKED. WHEN THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, IT RESET ITSELF. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER FURTHER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD BE AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE AND, IF THE RECALL BECOMES EXTENDED AND THE VIN BECOMES INCLUDED, THE CONTACT COULD POSSIBLY BE REIMBURSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 57,000.

FUEL EXHAUST FUMES IN THE CABIN. STARTING TO GET STRONGER
Other or unspecified, Engine, Oct 12, 2017
THE CAR HAS HAD CONSISTENT ODOR PENETRATION INTO THE PASSENGER CABIN SINCE I BOUGHT IT IN OCTOBER 2012. THERE IS A SULFUR-LIKE OR ROTTEN-EGG SMELL...ALMOST LIKE NATURAL GAS. MORE RECENTLY I AM ALSO GETTING A SEPARATE ODOR OF BURNING OIL. THE SMELL IS MOST PRESENT WHEN THE CAR'S WINDOWS ARE ALL UP AND THE A/C SYSTEM IS ON. THE OIL SMELL IS ALSO NOTICEABLE OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD BE RELATED TO THE WELL-PUBLICIZED ISSUE WITH POLICE VERSIONS OF THE FORD EXPLORER. I AM ALSO CONCERNED THAT THE FUMES COULD BE TOXIC AND I AM BEING EXPOSED FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME TO POTENTIAL CARCINOGENS.

TODAY, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH MY AC ON AND BEGAN TO SMELL A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL. AS I DROVE THE SMELL GOT STRONGER. I FINALLY GOT TO MY DESTINATION 10 MINUTES LATER AND FELT SICK AND HAD A HEADACHE.

THE SMELL OF EXHAUST FUMES ARE PRESENT INSIDE THE VEHICLE CABIN DURING TRIPS. THIS IS CAUSING HEADACHES AND NAUSEOUS FEELINGS AFTER BEING IN THE VEHICLE FOR EXTENDED TRIPS LONGER THAN HALF AN HOUR.
Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 10, 2017
THE EXHAUST LEAKS INTO THE CAR INTERIOR WHEN YOU ACCELERATE QUICKLY. IT'S A HORRIBLE SMELL, THAT LINGERS UNTIL YOU ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN OCCURING FOR SEVERAL YEARS WITH MY VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP IN DENVER TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN DALLAS WANTS ME TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO FIX THIS ISSUE THAT THEY'VE KNOWN ABOUT FOR YEARS. DURING LONGER DRIVES, I OFTEN GET SUPER SLEEPY AND NAUSEOUS. THIS IS AFFECTING MY HEALTH, AND MY FAMILY'S HEALTH.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING WITH EITHER THE AIR CONDITIONER OR HEAT ACTIVATED, THE ODOR OF CARBON MONOXIDE ENTERED THE CABIN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CONDITION WAS WORSE WHILE IN RECIRCULATION MODE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (HAYFORD FORD, 1330 301ST AVE NE, ISANTI, MN, 55040) WHO STATED THAT THEY COULD REPAIR THE VEHICLE PER TSB: 16-0165, BUT IT WOULD BE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE COST OF THE REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A TSB, BUT NO OPEN RECALL AND OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.

WE BOUGHT OUR VEHICLE USED IN 2015 WITH LESS THAN 40K MILES ON IT. IT IS OUR MAIN, FAMILY VEHICLE. THE FIRST ISSUES STARTED WITH PAINT CHIPPING ON THE HOOD. THE FORD STORE WE BOUGHT IT FROM NEVER STATED THIS WAS A PROBLEM. WE DID NOTICE IT AFTER HAVING IT AT HOME AND IT HAS GRADUALLY BECOME WORSE. I HAVE HAD USAA INSPECT IT AND THEY SAID IT LOOKS LIKE "SOMEONE DROVE IT WHERE THERE WAS HIGH SULFUR PRESENT"---NEAR WATER OR ETC. THE SECOND ISSUE IS WITH THE ENGINE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS OUR VEHICLE HAS FAILED TO TURN OVER AT THE FIRST START. WILL SIT THERE AND MAKE NOISES LIKE IT IS TRYING BUT FAIL AND TURN OFF. ONE INSTANCE HAPPENED WHILE WE WERE DRIVING ON A STREET ROAD. CAR HAD TROUBLE STARTING AND THEN SHUT OFF RANDOMLY. WE HAVE CONTACTED USAA AND TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO OUR LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP BUT THEY CANNOT SEEM TO HELP RESOLVE EITHER ISSUES. UPON CONDUCTING OUR OWN RESEARCH I SEE THAT THESE ARE RE-OCCURRING ISSUES WITH OTHER OWNERS, ACROSS THE US AND FORD HAS YET TO RESOLVE. VEHICLE IS UNSAFE

THIS MAKE/MODEL/YEAR HAS A KNOWN FACTORY DEFECT THAT CAUSED THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD TO BLOW EXHAUST DIRECTLY INTO THE CABIN. I HAD TO FORCE THE DEALER TO FIX THIS, AS THEY ARGUED EXHAUST IS NOT DANGEROUS. I HAVE ATTACHED THE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO FIX THIS, FROM THE FACTORY, PROVING IT WAS A KNOWN SERIOUS ISSUE, NOT DISCLOSED TO ME. THE DEALERSHIP DID A HORRIBLE JOB IN THE "REPAIR" - HAVING BROKEN OTHER PARTS OF THE CAR IN THE PROCESS. AFTER THEY "REPAIRED" THE CAR, IT BEGAN RANDOMLY SHUDDERING, WHILE IDLING. I HAVE ATTACHED A VIDEO OF IT. YOU WILL NEED TO TURN UP THE VOLUME TO THE MAX, AS YOUTUBE COMPRESSED THE SOUND TERRIBLY. I HAVE ONE WITNESS TO THIS HAPPENING TWICE. THE ENGINE STARTS VIBRATING WITH SUCH FEROCITY THAT IT SOUNDS AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS ABOUT TO EXPLODE. THE WITNESS IS WILLING TO TESTIFY IN COURT. HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=JOHECICECTK . THIS VEHICLE HAS COMPLETELY FALLEN APART AROUND ME. THERE ARE 10 OTHER MAJOR MECHANICAL ISSUES, WHICH FORD REFUSES TO FIX.

OVER 2700 COMPLAINTS AND 41 INJURIES TO DATE WITH EXHAUST ISSUE THAT IS RELEASING LARGE AMOUNT OF CARBON MONOXIDE INTO THE CARS THROUGH THE VENTS WAS FOUND TO BE THE PROBLEM FOR MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER THIS PAST MONDAY AT WORLD FORD IN PENSACOLA FL. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPT THAT THIS WAS THE SAME ISSUE THAT ALL OF THESE OTHER EXPLORERS HAVE HAD AND THAT THE EXPENSIVE REPAIRS DON'T WORK ANYWAY. FORD HAS BOUGHT BACK 3 JUST FROM THIS DEALER ALONE AND SEVERAL CARS HAVE ELECTED TO HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE BUT ACCORDING TO ALL OF THE MANY WEBSITES WITH COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE- THE REPAIRS EITHER DON'T HELP OR MAKE IT WORSE. I FOUND OUT TODAY AFTER BEING ON THE PHONE WITH MORE PEOPLE THAT I CAN COUNT FROM THE 800 # AT FORD AND THE SERVICE DEPT, THAT THIS DEALERSHIP "ISN'T WILLING TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY REPAIRS" AND WAS THEN TOLD TO HANDLE IT WITH FORD CONSUMER AFFAIRS...WHO KEEPS PUSHING ME BACK ON THE SERVICE DEPT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S MORE UN-NERVING ABOUT THIS...THAT FORD KNOWS JUST HOW BIG OF AN ISSUE THIS IS AND THEY HAVEN'T DONE A FORMAL RECALL YET OR THAT IT'S DOCUMENTED THAT I AM A SINGLE MOM, WITH ONE OF MY CHILDREN HAVING ASTHMA AND I'VE HAD HORRIBLE HEADACHES AND STOMACH ACHES FOR THE LAST YEAR- NEVER KNOWING WHY WE'VE BEEN SO SICK UNTIL A FEW DAYS AGO BUT NO ONE WANTS TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT! SO, I'LL FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB AND WILL BLAST A REVIEW ON EVERY SOCIAL MEDIA SITE THAT'S CONNECTED TO FORD UNTIL SOMEONE STEPS FORWARD AND EITHER TRIES TO SEE IF A REPAIR WILL WORK OR WILL BUY IT BACK FROM ME, ALLOWING ME TO TRADE IT IN FOR SOMETHING SAFE! HOW MANY PEOPLE NEED TO BE SICK OR DIE FROM CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING OR CONTINUE TO HAVE WRECKS FROM PASSING OUT FROM THE CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING BEFORE FORD ACTUALLY DOES A FULL RECALL AND FIXES OUR CARS THAT WE ALL PAID A DECENT AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR? HORRIBLE SMELL, LOSS OF POWER, POOR GAS MILEAGE.
