THIS DEFECT APPEARS SIMILAR TO TREAD BEING SLICED BY RAZOR BLADES ALL OVER THE TIRES. DEALER ACKNOWLEDGES DEFECTIVE TIRES, BUT REFUSES TO HONOR FORDS WARRANTY TO PRORATE REPLACEMENT AT LESS 60 PERCENT, AND IS ONLY WILLING TO REPLACE WITH SAME BRAND OF TIRE AT 20 PERCENT DISCOUNT OFF $242.00 WHICH IS CLEARLY OVERCHARGING AS I CAN FIND THESE TIRES FOR $97 RETAIL.. THESE TIRES ARE DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE RECALLED IN LIKE MANNER AS HANKOOKS OTHER 47000 TIRES WHICH WERE RECALLED. I HAVE SEEN OTHER REPORTS ON THE SAME TIRES ON FORD EXPLORERS. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE BEFORE PEOPLE ARE INJURED BY THE MALFUNCTION OF THESE TIRES, OR WORSE. FORD SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL THESE TIRES.

ON MONDAY, MARCH 13, 2017, WHILE IN MY SON'S DRIVEWAY (20225 WOODBINE, DETROIT, MI 48219);I STARTED THE IGNITION AND JUST AS THE ENGINE LEVELED OUT, THE REAR LIFT GATE GLASS "EXPLODED." NO FOREIGN OBJECTS WERE FOUND IN OR AROUND THE VEHICLE. BEING PARKED BETWEEN TWO HOMES, I FOUND IT ODD THAT SUCH AN EVENT WOULD OCCUR. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO BILL BROWN FORD FOR REPAIR, AND ADVISE THEM OF THE SITUATION. ONCE I WAS HOME, I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY, AND SPOKE WITH A PERSON NAMED "MAGGIE," WHO GAVE ME A REFERENCE NUMBER (CAS11880598) AND SAID THAT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD DO AN INVESTIGATION AS TO WHAT OCCURRED. ON MARCH 15, 2017, I PICKED UP MY VEHICLE. HOWEVER, PRIOR TO LEAVING I ADVISED MARY OF THE BODY SHOP THAT FORD ISSUED ME THE ABOVE REFERENCE NUMBER, AND THAT THEY (DEALERSHIP) WOULD DO AN INVESTIGATION AS TO WHAT HAPPEN. ON MONDAY, MARCH 20, 2017, BILL BROWN FORD STATED THAT THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE MY EXPENDITURE AND CONSIDERED THE MATTER CLOSED. I HAVE READ THAT THIS HAS HAPPEN BEFORE ON THE 2016 MODELS. I WOULD HATE FOR THIS TO HAPPEN ON ANY OTHER WINDOW ON MY VEHICLE WHILE IN OPERATION ON ANY PUBLIC ROADWAY. I WAS FORTUNATE IT HAPPEN IN A DRIVEWAY. PLEASE VIEW THIS MATTER AS A "SAFETY CONCERN."

STRONG EXHAUST FUME SMELL IN CABIN AFTER SHORT, RAPID, ACCELERATION OR WHEN THE CAR DRIVES UP AN INCLINE.

  13. Other or unspecified, Mar 19, 2017

RECENTLY WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY WE EXPERIENCED THE SMELL OF EXHAUST INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE WINDOWS WERE CLOSED, AC WAS ON AND RECIRCULATING INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES AROUND US WHEN WE SMELLED THE EXHAUST FUMES. ALSO, MY WIFE HAS COMPLAINED OF FEELING NAUSEOUS WHILE RIDING IN THIS VEHICLE. WE HAVE NOT TAKEN VEHICLE YET TO THE FORD DEALER BUT BASED ON WHAT WE HAVE READ ABOUT THE EXPLORER, THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF PEOPLE AND FORD IS UNABLE TO RECTIFY THE ISSUE.

I PURCHASED A NEW 2016 FORD EXPLORER SPORT. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW. WE HAVE HAD REPEATEDLY NOTICED A GAS / EXHAUST ODOR IN THE VEHICLE CABIN. IT'S SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM THE VENTS AND BECOMES STRONGER WHEN IN IDLE OR ON AN INCLINE. I HAVE TWICE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER AND BOTH TIMES HAD IT DISMISSED AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT SMELL THE ODOR. THE FIRST TIME I LEFT THE VEHICLE WITH THEM FOR THE DAY AND THE SECOND TIME I DROVE OVER WHEN THE ODOR WAS CLEARLY PRESENT BUT RESULTS WERE THE SAME. HOWEVER GUESTS IN MY VEHICLE AND OTHER NON- FORD TECHNICIANS HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SMELL THE ODOR. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR THIS VEHICLE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.

NOTICED A MONTH AFTER PURCHASE OF NEW CAR, CABIN FILLED UP WITH GAS SMELL ENTERING FREEWAY. SPOKE TO CAR SALESMAN.(HAD JUST FILLED CAR WITH GAS & W/CAPLESS SYSTEM I CONNECTED THE DOTS, THOUGHT THAT'S WHY IT HAPPENED & SPOKE TO SALESMAN. THEN NEXT TIME I HAD TO REV THE ENGINE TO ACCELERATE/PASS, IT HAPPENED WITH 1/4 TANK GAS. SENT A PS TO SALESMAN 11/29/16 THRU EMAIL. HE SAID IT TAKES THE CAR 3K-5K MI. TO BREAK IN. I JUST TRIED NOT TO GET ON FREEWAY, ONLY DROVE IT AROUND TOWN. WE USED MY HUBBY'S TRUCK FOR FREEWAY. THIS WEEKEND, WENT TO NEPHEW'S BB GAME ON 2 LANE 42 MILE RD. HAD TO PASS SLOW CAR IN FRONT OF ME--CAR HAD SUCH A GAS SMELL, I GOT A SORE THROAT FROM IT AND HAD TO ROLL DOWN WINDOWS TO BREATHE. I WAS SHOCKED IT HAPPENED AGAIN. LOOKED UP ON INTERNET WHAT I COULD FIND AND WAS HORRIFIED AT THE PGS. AND PGS. OF COMMENTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AS WELL FOR 2011-2015'S. I HAVE A NEW 2016 WITH 4200 MI. MY HEART ACHES FOR ALL THESE HUNDREDS OF FAMILIES WITH SM. KIDS WHILE CO AND CARCINOGENIC GASES ARE COMING THRU THE VENTS AND NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I SAVED FOR A LONG TIME TO BUY THIS VEHICLE. MY EX AND I HAVE BOUGHT 10 FORD'S. I'M DEVASTATED THAT THIS EXPENSIVE CAR (FOR ME) IS SLOWLY KILLING ME. LOOK AT THE CLASSACTION.ORG, TONS OF COMMENTS. LOOK AT CARPROBLEMSZOO.COM, TONS OF COMMENTS. THEY HAD SO MANY THEY NEEDED A PART 1 AND PART 2. IF YOU GO TO 2016 FORD OWNER COMMENTS, THEY ARE THERE TOO. I DOWNLOADED APPROX. 50 PAGES OF OWNERS' COMMENTS WITH THE SAME PROB. THE VAST MAJORITY HAD NO RESOLUTION. I'M SO SAD. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF THESE PROBLEMS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL. SOMEONE IS DROPPING THE BALL. I GUY STARTED TO PASS OUT WHILE HE WAS DRIVING BUT MANAGED TO PULL OVER. SERVICE MGR. 16. Steering, Suspension, Wheels, Mar 9, 2017

WHEN DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 70MPH, I COMPLETELY LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE FOR NO KNOWN REASON. I VEERED ACROSS 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC AND BACK ACROSS 2 MORE. CARS WERE SWERVING AROUND ME AND MIRACULOUSLY I WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND OTHER CARS TRAVELING BEHIND ME AT THE TIME DID TOO. WE COULDN'T SEE ANY REASON WHY THE CAR WASN'T WORKING PROPERLY SO AFTER CATCHING MY BREATH, I TRIED TO GET BACK ON THE ROAD. I COULD FEEL MY CAR INTERMITTENTLY "SLIPPING". IT FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS LOSING TRACTION AND I WAS LOSING CONTROL AND NOT ABLE TO STEER. I ULTIMATELY PULLED OVER AND CALLED A TOWTRUCK AS I KNEW MY VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAW THAT MY REAR TIRES WERE COMPLETELY BALD ONLY ON THE INSIDE. MY CAR HAD 27,000MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. I REPLACED THE BACK 2 TIRES THAT DAY. AND THE FRONT 2 THE FOLLOWING DAY. 2 WEEKS LATER, MY CAR WAS NOT DRIVING PROPERLY AND I BROUGHT IT INTO A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC. THEY TOLD ME MY REAR SUSPENSION WAS A MESS, THE UPPERCONTROL ARM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THE BUSHINGS ON MY BACK RIGHT WHEEL WERE LOSE AND HAD A LOT OF PLAY AND THAT NONE OF THIS WAS COVERED UNDER MY B2B WARRANTY BECAUSE THE RIGHT REAR TOW LINK WAS BENT AND THE WEDDINGS WERE LOSE. ALSO, THE TIRES I PUT ON 2 WEEKS AGO WERE STRIPPED BALD ON THE INSIDES AGAIN AND NEEDED TOMBS REPLACED. MY CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. FORD RECALLED 75,000 EXPLORES MADE IN 2014-15 DUE TO FAULTY REAR SUSPENSION FROM IMPROPER WELDING OF TOW LINKS. I BELIEVE MY CAR IS A DEMONSTRATION THAT THIS IS STILL AN ONGOING MANUFACTURER ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES AND I WANT TO PROPERLY REPORT IT SO THAT OTHER YOUNG MOTHERS DO NOT HAVE THE SAME DANGEROUS ENCOUNTER THAT I HAD.

WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH ON A CITY STREET A CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR THAT I HAVE PLACED IN THE THIRD ROW SOUNDED. I RETURNED HOME AND CALLED THE FORD DEALER AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR NEXT TUESDAY MORNING.

OUR EXPLORER HAS ROUGHLY 10K MILES ON IT AND WE PURCHASED IT JAN 2016. WHEN WE ACCELERATE RAPIDLY TO GET UP HILLS OR ON A FREEWAY, WE GET FLOODED WITH AN EXHAUST SMELL THROUGH THE AC VENTS. WE STARTED TO NOTICE THIS ON A FAMILY ROAD TRIP FEB 17, 2017 TO THE ZOO WITH OUR KIDS. THIS HAPPENED WITH OUR 2013 ALSO. THIS CAR IS WAY WORSE AND HAPPENS WITH RAPID ACCELERATION OF 3000-3500 RPM IN TOWN AS WELL. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, WE GET LIGHT HEADED AND MASSIVE INSTANT HEADACHES FROM THE SMELL. WE ARE NOTICING IT HAPPENING NOW IN CITY STREET DRIVING IF WE ARE TRYING TO GET UP A BIG HILL AS WELL AS WHEN WE ACCELERATE TO MERGE ONTO A HIGHWAY. THE SMELL IS GETTING WORSE EACH TIME IT HAPPENS. AS OF LAST WEEK, MY HUSBAND HAS NOTICED WHILE DRIVING NOT ONLY IS THE SMELL GETTING MORE INTENSE BUT IT ISN'T TAKING AS MUCH ACCELERATION FOR IT TO TRIGGER THE SMELL TO FLOOD THE CABIN. HE WAS DRIVING UP A HILL IN TOWN AND ONLY HAD THE RPM AT 2000 AND NOTICED THE SMELL. WE ARE HAVING ISSUES BEING ABLE TO DRIVE AROUND TOWN WITHOUT HAVING THE SMELL FLOOD OUR CABIN. WE HAD ISSUES WITH OUR 2013 DOING THE SAME THING BUT THE 2013 WAS ONLY ON THE HIGHWAY AND NOT AS INTENSE AS THIS CAR. WE ARE STARTING TO EXPERIENCE SYMPTOMS WHEN WE HAVE THIS SMELL COME OUT. WE HAVE TRIED TO TURN OFF AC BUT THAT MADE IT WORSE. WE HAVE THREE SMALL CHILDREN AND THIS IS OUR ONLY FAMILY CAR AND NOW WE ARE SCARED TO DRIVE IT!

DIGITAL CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR ALARM SOUNDED WHEN IT HIT 35PPM, THEN THE LEVELS CLIMBED ALL THE WAY TO 49 PPM. NO SMELL WAS PRESENT AT THE TIME OF THE TEST. NO CARS SURROUNDING THE VEHICLE. AT THIS TIME, WHEN LEVELS HIT 49PPM THE WINDOWS WERE ROLLED DOWN FOR FRESH AIR TO GAIN SAFETY FOR THE DRIVER. WE WERE ABLE TO DOCUMENT VIDEO AND IMAGES OF THIS EVENT. FORD FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER STATES TO HIS KNOWLEDGE THE 2016 EXPLORER HAS BEEN REDESIGNED AND THE CONCERN HAD ONLY BEEN DOCUMENTED ON THE EARLIER MODELS.

EXHAUST/ODOR IN CABIN. AFTER VEHICLE IS WARM, NOT NECESSARILY AT HIGH RATE OF EXCELLERATION OR SPEED. CONCENTRATION IS HIGH ENOUGH FOR HEADACHE, WATERY EYES AND URGENCY TO SEEK FRESH AIR. ODOR IS VERY NOTICEABLE FROM THE EXTERIOR AS WELL DURING EPISODE.

CARBON MONOXIDE: I HAVE BEEN SMELLING AN EXHAUST LIKE SMELL IN MY CAR SINCE I PURCHASED IT BRAND NEW. FOR AWHILE, I ASSUMED IT WAS NEW CAR CHEMICALS BURNING OFF FROM THE ENGINE ETC. HOWEVER, OVER TIME I STILL WAS PRESENTED WITH THIS ODOR. MY HUSBAND AND I BOUGHT A CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR TO SEE IF ANY DANGEROUS FUMES WERE PRESENTING INSIDE THE CAR. UPON MY QUICK 6-7 MINUTE DRIVE TO CHURCH THE CARBON MONOXIDE LEVELS READ 6PPM. WHEN DRIVEN LATER BY MY HUSBAND FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES AT A SLIGHTLY FASTER SPEED, IT CLIMBED TO 12PPM! WE HAD THE AIR CONDITIONER ON AND THE RECIRCULATING AIR ON. WHEN WE HELD THE CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR UP TO THE AIR CONDITIONER, THE NUMBERS CLIMBED FASTER. I HAVE A PHOTO OF THE 6PPM, BUT MY HUSBAND DIDN'T HAVE HIS PHONE AND COULDN'T TAKE A PICTURE OF THE 12PPM AT THE TIME. HE WILL TRY TO GET A ONE SOON. THIS CAR IS THE PRIMARY VEHICLE FOR MY THREE AND ONE YEAR OLD CHILDREN. WE WILL NO LONGER BE USING THIS VEHICLE RISKING THEIR SAFETY.

2016 FORD EXPLORER PURCHASED JULY 2016. 9800 MILES. TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION. THEY TOLD US THE TIRES WERE SHOT. HANKOOK VENTUS S1 NOBLE 2 H452 255/50R20 105H BSW. THEY ASKED US IF THE CAR HAD EVER GOTTEN STUCK OR IF WE EVER DRIVE ON GRAVEL ROADS. THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN STUCK BUT WE DO HAVE A GRAVEL DRIVEWAY. THEY OFFERED TO SELL US A NEW SET OF TIRES AND SEND THE OLD TIRES BACK TO HANKOOK FOR ANALYSIS. CALLED FORD CORPORATE AND OPENED A CASE CAS11650061. SAME RESPONSE - BUY A NEW SET OF TIRES AND WE'LL SEND THEM BACK TO HANKOOK FOR ANALYSIS. I FINALLY REVIEWED THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THESE TIRES: "THE HANKOOK VENTUS S1 NOBLE 2 TIRE IS AN ULTRA HIGH PERFORMANCE ALL-SEASON TIRE THAT IS DEVELOPED SPECIFICALLY FOR HIGH END SPORTS CARS AND MAXIMUM HANDLING." NOW I KNOW WHY I'VE BEEN FINDING PIECES OF RUBBER ON MY CONCRETE TURN-AROUND PAD. PARTS OF THE TREAD ARE PEELING OFF. SHAME ON ME FOR NOT DOING THE RESEARCH FIRST, AND SEEING THAT THESE TIRES ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR SERVICE ON A 4WD EXPLORER. SHAME ON FORD FOR SPECIFYING THIS TIRE FOR THIS VEHICLE. I'LL BE BUYING A NEW SET OF TIRES AT MY LOCAL TIRE SHOP. THESE TIRES WILL NOT BE HANKOOK VENTUS S1 NOBLE 2 H452 255/50R20 105H BSW TIRES. THESE TIRES WILL BE SUITABLE FOR SERVICE ON A FORD EXPLORER. I CAN'T AFFORD TO BE BUYING A NEW SET OF TIRES EVERY 10K MILES.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE TRAVELING 25 MPH, THE TAILGATE INADVERTENTLY OPENED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE ISSUE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE HAD NOT RECURRED WHILE DRIVING, BUT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE CONTACT CLOSED THE TAILGATE, BUT IT WOULD RE-OPEN. WHILE THE TAILGATE WAS OPEN, IT CLOSED UNEXPECTEDLY AND INJURED THE CONTACT'S HEAD. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT REQUIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS AWARE OF THE SENSOR FOR THE TAILGATE. ALSO, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE DRIVER'S SEAT MOVED FORWARD AND INJURED THE CONTACT'S RIGHT KNEE. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE, BUT THE VEHICLE MODULE WAS REPROGRAMMED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD SEVERAL ELECTRICAL ISSUES BECAUSE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DISPLAY WOULD NOT OPERATE OR OPERATED INCORRECTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 500.
