THE ERROR MESSAGE ON THE DASH SHOW "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE". THIS TYPICALLY HAPPENS ON A DAILY BASIS AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS SAT FOR THE NIGHT. IT IS A SAFETY CONCERNS AS THE CAR WILL RANDOMLY STALL ON THE INTERSTATE DRIVING AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE IS UNDER FORD'S EXTENDED WARRANTY, AND HAS BEEN TO (2) SEPARATE DEALERS TO TROUBLESHOOT. THE FIRST DEALER COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE ISSUE, THE DEALER IT IS CURRENTLY AT, HAS BEEN ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUE MULTIPLE TIMES, BUT NOT SURE THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM, AS IT DOESN'T STORE ANY CODES. RE: 2017 FORD EXPLORER. CAR DYING OUT ON ACCELERATION FROM A STOP. A SCARY THING HAPPENED ON RT #619 TODAY IN HARTVILLE. THAT IS, THE CAR DIED OUT HALFWAY OUT ONTO THE ROADWAY, IT PAUSES FOR SOME SECONDS WHERE THE ACCELERATOR DOES NOTHING. THEN IT PICKS UP BY ITSELF. THE THROTTLE DOES NOTHING. NONE OF THESE ACTIONS ARE DESIRABLE. THESE BEHAVIORS PUT US IN GREAT DANGER. SO LET'S SEE, THIS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE MORNING I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP (MONDAY 01-06-2020). AND, IT HAPPENED ONCE THE 2ND DAY BACK TO ME ON FRIDAY 01-31-2019. BUT IT DID NOT HAPPEN FOR YOU IN THE 4 WEEKS YOU HAD IT TO TEST. AMAZING ISN'T IT? WELL, I THINK I'M GOING TO GO ALONG WITH THE MANY OTHER PEOPLE ONLINE THAT REPORT THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM THAT I EXPERIENCE. IN MY CAR, IT'S BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE NEW. I DO BELIEVE FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. I ALSO BELIEVE THEY'RE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING TO CORRECT IT UNTIL THEY'RE MADE TO. WHEN I ASKED THE SERVICE MANAGER, HE SAID TO ME: "FORD TOLD US NOT TO DO ANYTHING UNLESS YOU CAN VERIFY IT." SO, YOU JUST DON'T VERIFY IT. IN "FORD THINK" THIS MUST MEAN THE PROBLEM DOESN'T EXIST. THIS PUTS ME IN MIND OF SOME YEARS BACK WHEN CARS WERE TAKING OFF BY THEMSELVES. PINNING, INJURING, AND EVEN KILLING SOME OWNERS. IT'S ODD, BUT IT WAS THE SAME THING BACK THEN. IT'S THE DRIVERS, THEY'RE DOING SOMETHING WRONG. IT'S NOT OUR CARS, AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I'M BEING TOLD NOW. IT'S MY DRIVING HABITS. THE SAME HABITS THAT DON'T EFFECT MY OTHER 5 CARS. I DID NOT BELIEVE IT THEN, NOR DO I BELIEVE IT NOW. FORD SEEMS TO HAVE AN ODD MINDSET. TO FIND SOMETHING, YOU HAVE TO BE LOOKING FOR IT. AND, I ALSO REPORTED TO YOU THAT THE SYNC SYSTEM WAS GOING CRAZY, MAKING ADJUSTMENTS THAT WEREN'T NEEDED OR CALLED FOR. IT HAS TO BE CONTINUALLY READJUSTED. DID IT NOT DO THAT EITHER? IT DID IT FOR ME THE MINUTE I STARTED IT UP. THANK YOU, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

  14. Other or unspecified, Jan 30, 2020, fire

WE WERE DRIVING FORWARD ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE CAR LOST POWER, A WRENCH LOGO APPEARED ON THE DASH DISPLAY, THEN WE COASTED THE CAR TO A STOP AT THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD. THEN WE SMELLED SMOKE, SAW FLAMES FLICKERING UP FROM THE HOOD, VACATED THE VEHICLE AND CALLED 911 AS THE FRONT OF THE CAR UNDER THE HOOD BURST INTO FLAMES. THE CAR WAS QUICKLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. CITY POLICE ARRIVED TO CONTROL TRAFFIC AWAY FROM OUR BURNING CAR, AND THEN THE FIRETRUCK AND FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVED AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. THE CAR WAS TOWED AWAY ON A FLATBED.

  15. Electrical system, Electronic stability control (ESC), Visibility/wiper, Jan 15, 2020

ON JANUARY 11, 2020, I TURNED ON THE IGNITION OF MY 2017 EXPLORER SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY AND IMMEDIATELY HAD 4 WARNING LIGHTS AND MULTIPLE ERROR MESSAGES APPEAR. IT WAS THE ABS, STABILITY CONTROL ON AND OFF LIGHTS AND A WRENCH. THEN THERE WERE MULTIPLE MESSAGES ABOUT MY FOUR WHEEL DRIVE NOT WORKING. I TURNED THE CAR ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES TRYING TO GET ALL OF THE MESSAGES AND TO SEE IF IT WOULD CLEAR. AFTER THE THIRD RESTART THE ENTIRE DASH PANEL WENT OUT COMPLETELY EXCEPT FOR THE RADIO WHICH STAYED ON CONTINUOUSLY FOR 3 DAYS UNTIL IT GOT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY. NONE OF THE VEHICLES BASIC NECESSITIES WERE WORKING...NO SPEEDOMETER, GAS LIGHTS, WIPERS, OR CLIMATE CONTROL, ETC. ONLY THE ENGINE, HEADLIGHTS, AND TAILLIGHTS WORKED. THE DEALERSHIP IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON THE VEHICLE AND IS CLAIMING IT IS A BATTERY PROBLEM. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS ADMITTED THEY DON'T KNOW IF IT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM BUT THEY ARE GOING TO TRY IT. THEY ALSO STATED THAT "THE VEHICLE CLEARED ITSELF AFTER THE BATTERY DIED WHICH IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO DO". I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE REPORTS ABOUT THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH DIFFERENT ITEMS BEING REPLACED, INCLUDING THE BATTERY, TO NO AVAIL. THIS IS MY FAMILY'S PRIMARY VEHICLE AND I REGULARLY DRIVE MY 6 AND 11 YR OLD CHILDREN AROUND IN THIS VEHICLE. WE ALSO TRAVEL THE HIGHWAY AND 4 LANE SUSPENSION BRIDGE EXTENSIVELY. LOSING THESE BASIC SYSTEMS COULD RESULT IN A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. I HAVE SEEN COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET DATING BACK TO DECEMBER 2016 AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS IN PROPER WORKING CONDITION, NO MAJOR PROBLEMS PRIOR, AND WELL BELOW THE MILEAGE EXPECTED FOR A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE WHEN THE ISSUES OCCURRED. I DON'T TRUST IT NOW.

  19. Other or unspecified, Dec 18, 2019

VERY STRONG ODOR OF EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE CABIN. I WAS USING THE CAR'S AUTOMATIC START FEATURE AND WHEN I GOT IN CAR TO DRIVE KIDS TO SCHOOL, YOU COULD SMELL EXHAUST THROUGHOUT CAR. JUST RECENTLY PURCHASED CAR AND NOTICED THIS ISSUE ON 2ND DAY OF OWNERSHIP. WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAY ODOR SEEMS TO GO AWAY BUT IF YOU STOP AT A LIGHT OR ARE IN SLOW MOVING TRAFFIC, FUMES QUICKLY BUILD UP AGAIN.

  20. Structure, Other or unspecified, Dec 15, 2019, crash

WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON MY FLAT DRIVEWAY MY DAUGHTER BACKED HER FORD EDGE INTO THE REAR OF THE EXPLORER AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED. THE EXPLORER WHICH WAS NOT RUNNING AND WAS TURNED OFF AND IN PARK AT THE TIME ROLLED OFF THE DRIVEWAY. ROLLED THROUGH AN OPEN LOT BEHIND OUR HOUSE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ROLL THROUGH THE OPEN LOT AND CROSSED THE NEIGHBORHOOD STREET BEHIND OUR HOUSE. THE VEHICLE THEN ROLLED THROUGH ANOTHER VACANT LOT, AND ROLLED DOWN AN EMBANKMENT THROUGH ANOTHER LOT. THE VEHICLE STOPPED ONLY AFTER STRIKING A TREE AND COMING TO REST. IN ALL THE VEHICLE TRAVELED APPROX 300 YARDS AND HAD IT NOT STRUCK THE TREE IT WOULD HAVE CROSSED A BUSY TWO LANE ROAD. I GOT TO THE VEHICLE IT WAS LOCKED AND IN PARK. THERE WAS A GOOD AMOUNT OF FRONT END DAMAGE AND THERE WAS NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO OUR HOUSE BUT IT COULD NOT BE DRIVEN ANY FURTHER.

I BELIEVE THIS TO BE YET ANOTHER FAULTY FORD TRANSMISSION ISSUE, AS I AM A DAILY COMMUTER AND KEEP MY VEHICLES WELL MAINTAINED.

TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR TIRE PROBLEM. THEY INFORMED ME THAT I NEED ALL TIRES REPLACED. THIS VEHICLE HAS 27000 MILES ON IT. THE TIRES ARE RATED FOR 50000 MILES. MY WIFE DRIVES THE CAR. SHE DOES NOT FEEL SAFE IN IT AT ALL. THE TIRES SPIN IN WET CONDITIONS DUE TO THE ABNORMAL WEAR ON THE TIRES. SHE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR SLIDE WHILE TRYING TO STOP. SHE SAID SHE WAS WITHIN INCHES OF HITTING THE CAR INFRONT OF HER. THESE ARE THE HANKOOK NOBLE 2 TIRES. HANKOOK SAID THEY WOULD PRO RATE THE COST OF NEW TIRES. HANKOOK KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND LET FORD KNOW THIS IS WHAT THEY WOULD DO. FORD HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. MY LEASE IS DUE IN 7 MONTHS. THE TIRES SHOULD AT LEAST LAST 3 YEARS. I AM AT THE POINT OF TELLING MY WIFE TO PARK THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE A DIFFERENT CAR. SAFETY IS A BIG FACTOR WITH THIS ISSUE. WHY IS NOBODY WORRIED ABOUT THE ISSUE THAT THESE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED WHEN THE ISSUE WAS FOUND. I ANYONE IN MY FAMILY DOES NOT FEEL SAFE, WE WILL NOT DRIVE IT WITH WINTER COMING. SAD THAT NEITHER COMPANY WANTS TO TAKE THIS ISSUE SERIOUSLY. NOT GOING TO GET ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM FORD OR WITH HANKKOK TIRES AGAIN.

I BOUGHT MY EXPLORER BRAND NEW. AT 28,000 MILES THE BATTERY WAS LEAKING AND WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE OTHER DAY I DID AN OIL CHANGE AND NOTICED THE BATTERY WAS LEAKING AGAIN AND CAUSING CORROSION. THE ACID IS CLEARLY VISIBLE ON THE BATTERY. MY VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER 3 YEARS OLD AND UNDER 36 MONTHS. THE BATTERY IS FROM 8/18/18. NOW MY VEHICLE HAS 52000 MILES. THREE DIFFERENT FORD SHOPS COGGIN DELAND, GARY YEOMAN, MULLINAX FORD REFUSE TO REPLACE IT DUE TO IT BEING "ORIGINAL BATTERY". THIS IS POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND NO REASON THIS SHOULD HAPPEN. WHEN I ASKED GARY REP IF THIS WAS COMMON AND THEY STATED "YES WE SEE THIS ALOT AND THATS WHY WE OFFER 7 YEAR BATTERIES". THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WHEN A BATTERY IS BEING USED PER YEAR PER 28000 MILES.
