Recalls and investigations

  1. Air bags, frontal, driver side, inflator moduleMar 10, 2021

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2007-2011 Ranger, 2006-2012 Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr, Lincoln MKZ, 2006-2011 Mercury Milan, 2007-2010 Ford Edge, and Lincoln MKX vehicles. The driver's side air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver-side airbag inflator or module with an alternate one, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 9, 2021 for the passenger side, and November 14, 2022 for the driver side. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S12.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain air bag inflator and/or module replacement service parts that may have been used as part of a collision repair. The parts include certain driver-side air bag inflators and/or modules, designed to fit 2005-2014 Ford Mustang and Mustang GT500. It also includes certain passenger-side air bag inflators and/or modules designed to fit 2005-2014 Ford Mustang, 2010-2012 Lincoln MKZ, 2010-2012 Ford Fusion, 2010-2011 Mercury Milan, 2007-2011 Ford Ranger, and 2007-2010 Lincoln MKX vehicles. 4. Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleDec 18, 2019

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2006-2010 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr and MKZ vehicles. The valves within the ABS Hydraulic Control Units (HCU) may react with brake fluids containing specific corrosion preventative additives. This reaction may cause the valves to not close properly.

If the valves do not properly close, additional brake pedal travel may be required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will flush the brake system with DOT 4 fluid and install a new brake fluid reservoir cap. In addition, the HCU will be tested to detect a possible stuck valve condition, replacing the HCU as necessary. All services will be performed free of charge. The recall began April 1, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S54.

In the event of a crash requiring deployment of the passenger air bag, the bracket that secures the air bag inflator to the module housing may deform, allowing the gas that inflates the air bag to leak out.

If the air bag does not inflate as intended, there is an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag module, free of charge. The recall began November 21, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S34.

An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2007-2011 Ford Ranger vehicles, 2006-2011 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ vehicles, 2007-2010 Ford Edge, Lincoln MKX vehicles, 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles, and 2005-2011 Ford Mustang vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands, or "Zone A." Additionally, unless included in "Zone A" above, Ford is recalling certain model year 2007-2008 Ford Ranger, Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles, 2006-2008 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ vehicles, 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles and 2005-2008 Ford Mustang vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, or "Zone B." Any vehicle not included in "Zone A", or "Zone B" is not included in the safety recall. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules, and used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front air bags, these inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.

An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the repair has been performed. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. Ford mailed interim letters informing owners that parts are not yet available on July 15, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. 9. Fuel system, gasoline, storage, auxillary tankNov 24, 2015

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured July 21, 2008, to March 4, 2011, and 2010-2011 Mercury Milan vehicles manufactured July 23, 2008, to December 10, 2010. The affected vehicles have fuel vapor canisters whose purge valves may not operate properly resulting in abnormal pressure changes in the fuel tank.

The pressure changes may cause the tank to crack and leak fuel. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle powertrain control modules and inspect the vehicle for any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for this issue and perform a leak test on the Canister Purge Valve (CPV). The fuel tank will be inspected for cracks. The CPV and fuel tank will be replaced as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S34.

  10. EquipmentMay 29, 2014

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain all weather driver side accessory floor mats sold for use in model year 2006-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, and 2007-2011 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured November 9, 2007, through October 31, 2010. The affected floor mats may move and possibly interfere with the accelerator pedal.

The floor mat could shift such that it could interfere with the accelerator pedal, preventing its return to an idle position, which could result in unintended vehicle speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install new replacement mats, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact Ford's customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S07. NOTE: Vehicles built after October 31, 2010, while potentially equipped with the same floor mats, are equipped with a Brake Over Accelerator (BOA) feature that prevents simultaneous accelerator and brake application, allowing the vehicle to be safely stopped by pressing firmly and steadily on the brake pedal.

TAKATA RECALL I CALLED MY MOORESVILLE, N.C. FORD DEALERSHIP TO SCHEDULE A REPLACEMENT OF THE DEFECTIVE PASSENGER AIRBAG AND THE REPLACEMENT PART IS NOT YET AVAILABLE. IT MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL THE END OF THIS YEAR..2018. MY RECALL LETTER INDICATES THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY WILL PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR AT $30 A DAY AND THE OWNER HAS TO CARRY AND PAY FOR THE INSURANCE ON THE RENTAL VEHICLE. THE RENTAL COMPANY MY FORD DEALER CONTRACTS THROUGH CHEAPEST RENTAL IS $35.00 PER DAY WHICH WOULD LEAVE ME PAYING APPROXIMATELY $140.00 PER MONTH FOR THE RENTAL AND APPROXIMATELY AN EXTRA $50.00 OR MORE A MONTH FOR INSURANCE I AM ALREADY PAYING FOR A AFFECTED VEHICLE PLUS MONTHLY INSURANCE THAT HAS A RECALL FOR A DEFECTIVE RECALL THAT IS NOT MY FAULT! I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN AND DRIVE MY CAR ON A DAILY BASIS WITH MY GRANDCHILDREN AND LOVED ONES IN MY CAR AND DON'T WANT TO TAKE THE RISK OF DEATH OR INJURY TO ANY OF THEM.. WITH THE AGE OF MY CAR AND THE SUMMER HEAT AND HUMIDITY I DO NOT WANT TO CHANCE THAT! I DO NOT FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING EXTRA FOR A RENTAL FOR A RECALL PUTTING MY FAMILY IN HARM'S WAY OR EVEN DEATH THAT IS NOT MY FAULT! THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD BE MADE TO PAY THE ENTIRE COST OF THE RENTAL VEHICLE! IF INDEED YOUR GOAL AND POLICY IS TO MAKE SURE THESE CAR MANUFACTURERS DO THEIR PART TO INSURE MY SAFETY...THEN FORD MOTOR COMPANY NEEDS TO BE TOTALLY ACCOUNTABLE AND PAY EVERYTHING. NONE OF THE COST SHOULD BE PASSED TO THE OWNER OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLE. I CALLED FORD HEADQUARTERS CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH MY CONCERN ABOUT THE DANGER WHICH THEY URGE THE OWNER TO GET THE AIRBAG REPLACED AND NOT DRIVE IT...BUT YET THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE AS YET.....AND MAYBE 6 MONTHS OR MORE... & YET WON'T PAY THE TOTAL COST FOR MY FORD DEALER SHIP TO RENT ME A CAR IS TOTALLY RIDICULOUS! THEY ESSENTIALLY SAID "SORRY" THAT'S ALL WE ARE ALLOWING $30 A DAY.

TAKATA RECALL FORD SENT US A LETTER TELLING US TO GO TO OUR FORD DEALER AND THE FORD WAS TO AUTHORIZE THEM TO PROVIDE US A FREE RENTAL CAR; ALL OF WHICH SEEMS TO MEAN THE ISSUE IS VERY SERIOUS. HOWEVER, ALL THE DEALER IS DOING IS TAKING NAMES, ADDRESSES, AND INFORMATION. THEY REFUSE TO TELL US WHEN WE MIGHT GET REPAIR PARTS OR A RENTAL VEHICLE. CAPITAL FORD LINCOLN AND MERCURY OF WILMINGTON (NC)'S SERVICE WRITER TOLD ME THAT THEY COULDN'T "JUST SEND US DOWN TO ENTERPRISE TO GET A CAR." WHEN I ASKED WHY NOT, HE SHRUGGED. FORD HAS BEEN SELLING NEW CARS AND I PRESUME THEY HAVE AIR BAGS IN THEM. ALL OF WHICH MAKES ME FEEL FORD DIDN'T THINK OUR LIVES ARE WORTH DIVERTING PARTS FROM NEW CARS TO FIX THE ONES THEY DROPPED THE BALL ON IN THE FIRST PLACE. WILL YOU PLEASE DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO GET US HELP? IT WOULD SURELY BE APPRECIATED.

TAKATA RECALL - IT HAS BEEN 2 YEARS SINCE THIS ISSUE WAS IDENTIFIED AND I HAVE YET TO HAVE A DEFINITIVE DATE AS TO WHEN THE ISSUE WILL BE RESOLVED. IT IS PUTTING ME IN A BIND SINCE I HAVE TO TRANSPORT MY CHILDREN AND WIFE IN THE CAR AND HAVE TO USE THE PASSENGER SEAT ON OCCASION. IT IS HARD FOR ME TO BELIEVE THAT IT WOULD TAKE OVER 2 YEARS TO RESOLVE.

TAKATA INFLATORS. I HAVENT HAD AN ISSUE EXCEPT I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN APRIL OF 2017 AND WHEN I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE AIR BAG RECALL,THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND ARE BLAMING FORD FOR NOT GETTING THEM THE CORRECT PARTS TO ADDRESS THIS VITAL SAFETY ISSUE. IN THE MEAN TIME I'VE RECEIVED NOTICES ABOUT THE RECALL AND TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE DEALER,ETC...BUT IF THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS WHAT CAN I DO?? FOR FORD TO BE TAKING THIS LONG ON SENDING OUT THE PARTS IS BEYOND ME FOR SUCH A CRUCIAL SAFETY ISSUE,AND WAS WONDERING HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE GOING TO DIE IN THE MEANTIME??

TAKATA RECALL. I RECEIVED AN AIRBAG RECALL NOTIFICATION VIA US MAIL.PARTS FOR THE REPAIR ARE NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE BUT ARE "ANTICIPATED" TO BECOME AVAILABLE "DURING THE SECOND AND THIRD QUARTER OF 2018". I CALLED FORD AND TWO SEPARATE PEOPLE TOLD ME THE CAR WAS SAFE FOR THE DRIVER BUT NOT FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER. HOW CAN THEY BE SURE OF THIS? MEANWHILE, THEY OFFER UP TO $30/DAY FOR A RENTAL CAR. THIS IS GOOD UNTIL I FIND OUT THROUGH TWO DEALERSHIPS THAT THE LEAST EXPENSIVE CAR AVAILABLE IS $35 INCLUDING TAXES. TO RECAP: 1. FORD SAYS THE CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE FOR THE DRIVER ONLY. 2. FORD WILL PROVIDE A RENTAL CAR OF UP TO $30/DAY EVEN THOUGH THE CHEAPEST IS $5 MORE OR $150/MONTH OUT OF MY POCKET. 3. PEOPLE HAVE BEEN INJURED/KILLED BY THIS DEFECT. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS OTHER THAN JEPORDIZING THE SAFETY OF ME AND MY FAMILY? PAYING $150/MONTH IS NOT AN OPTION AND WHEN WILL THE PART BE READY? WHY CAN'T FORD GO THE EXTRA MILE AND FULLY COVER THE RENTAL? I WAS A FEDERAL AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER FOR 31 YEARS. I AM VERY KEEN ON SAFETY RISKS AND THIS IS NOT ONE I AM WILLING TO TAKE. PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU.

"TAKATA RECALL" I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FEBRUARY 2018 STATING THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG, AND I WOULD BE NOTIFIES WHEN PARTS BECAME AVAILABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE. I HAVE SINCE THEN RECEIVED A LETTER STATING PARTS ARE UNAVAILABLE, AND FORD IS OFFERING RENTAL CARS UNTIL PARTS DO BECOME AVAILABLE. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS SOLVED FOR A WEEK NOW, AND MY LOCAL FORD DEALER JUST KEEPS SAYING THEY WILL GET BACK TO ME. THIS IS MY ONLY FORM OF TRANSPORTATION, AND I HAVE TWO KIDS THAT TRAVEL IN THIS CAR WITH ME. I FEEL LIKE EVERYDAY DRIVING IN THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE, IS A THREAT TO ME AND/OR MY CHILDREN, AND NOTHING IS GETTING RESOLVED, DUE TO AN OVERWHELMING LIST, BUT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO WORRY EVERYTIME I DRIVE.

TAKATA RECALL 18S01 NHTSA 18V046 AFTER RECEIVING RECALL LETTER ON FEB 2016, I CONTACTED MANY FORD DEALERS IN SOUTH JERSEY NJ, PHILADELPHIA PA AND IN BUFFALO NY TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE RECALLED AIR BAG. HOWEVER, THERE IS NO SINGLE DEALER HAS THE PARTS UNTIL DATE 5/31/2018. THEY DON'T KNOW WHEN THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE AND SOME OF THEM SAID IT MAY BE AVAILABLE BY FOURTH QUARTER OR AROUND THE END OF 2018. THEY OFFERED RENTAL SMALLEST COMPACT CAR (NOT EQUIVALENT TO MY CURRENT CAR) WHERE I HAVE TO PAY DEALER EXTRA 10 TO 12 DOLLARS PER DAY PLUS INSURANCE COST (AVERAGE $350- TO $500 MONTHLY UNTIL UNDEFINED DATE) I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A COMPLAINT AS I I DON'T WANT TO BE EXPOSED TO SUCH DANGEROUS DEADLY AIR BAG. THIS IS LIABILITY OF MANUFACTURE NOT CUSTOMER FAULT. IN ADDITION I CAN'T AFFORD THIS EXTRA UNFAIR RENTAL COST IMPOSED BY DEALERS.

  20. Air bags, May 26, 2018

TAKATA RECALL. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT IT IS TAKING FORD AN INORDINATE LENGTH OF TIME TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT A REMEDY TO THIS RECALL. IT HAS BEEN 2 YEARS, AND THERE IS NOTHING TO BE DONE. THE ONLY THING THEY SAY TO DO IS NOT HAVE ANYONE RIDE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT-THAT IS A RIDICULOUS ANSWER FOR A PERIOD OF 2 YEARS. IT IS CLEAR THIS IS NOT A PRIORITY FOR THEM--THEY SOLD THEIR CARS AND NOW WANT TO SELL MORE.

TAKATA RECALL WE CALLED A FORD DEALERSHIP IN CHARLOTTESVILLE (EDDINS) REGARDING THIS RECALL AND NO ONE CALLED BACK. IT IS A GREAT INCONVENIENCE TO NOT BE ABLE TO HAVE A PASSENGER RIDE IN THE FRONT SEAT OF A SMALL SEDAN. I HAVE BEEN GIVEN NO IDEA OF WHEN THIS PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED. WE BOUGHT THIS USED CAR LAST FALL AND AT THAT TIME WHEN WE RESEARCHED THE CAR BEFORE PURCHASE WE WERE TOLD THERE WERE NO ACTIVE RECALLS ON THIS CAR. THEN IN JANUARY 2018 WE RECEIVED THE NOTICE REGARDING THE TAKATA AIR BAG. PLEASE HELP ME GET THE MANUFACTURER TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
