Recalls and investigations

  1. Air bags, frontal, driver side, inflator moduleMar 10, 2021

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2007-2011 Ranger, 2006-2012 Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr, Lincoln MKZ, 2006-2011 Mercury Milan, 2007-2010 Ford Edge, and Lincoln MKX vehicles. The driver's side air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver-side airbag inflator or module with an alternate one, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 9, 2021 for the passenger side, and November 14, 2022 for the driver side. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S12.

  4. Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleDec 18, 2019

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2006-2010 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr and MKZ vehicles. The valves within the ABS Hydraulic Control Units (HCU) may react with brake fluids containing specific corrosion preventative additives. This reaction may cause the valves to not close properly.

If the valves do not properly close, additional brake pedal travel may be required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will flush the brake system with DOT 4 fluid and install a new brake fluid reservoir cap. In addition, the HCU will be tested to detect a possible stuck valve condition, replacing the HCU as necessary. All services will be performed free of charge. The recall began April 1, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S54.

In the event of a crash requiring deployment of the passenger air bag, the bracket that secures the air bag inflator to the module housing may deform, allowing the gas that inflates the air bag to leak out.

If the air bag does not inflate as intended, there is an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag module, free of charge. The recall began November 21, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S34.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2007-2011 Ford Ranger vehicles, 2006-2011 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ vehicles, 2007-2010 Ford Edge, Lincoln MKX vehicles, 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles, and 2005-2011 Ford Mustang vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands, or "Zone A." Additionally, unless included in "Zone A" above, Ford is recalling certain model year 2007-2008 Ford Ranger, Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles, 2006-2008 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ vehicles, 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles and 2005-2008 Ford Mustang vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, or "Zone B." Any vehicle not included in "Zone A", or "Zone B" is not included in the safety recall. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules, and used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front air bags, these inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.

An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the repair has been performed. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. Ford mailed interim letters informing owners that parts are not yet available on July 15, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. 9. Fuel system, gasoline, storage, auxillary tankNov 24, 2015

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured July 21, 2008, to March 4, 2011, and 2010-2011 Mercury Milan vehicles manufactured July 23, 2008, to December 10, 2010. The affected vehicles have fuel vapor canisters whose purge valves may not operate properly resulting in abnormal pressure changes in the fuel tank.

The pressure changes may cause the tank to crack and leak fuel. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle powertrain control modules and inspect the vehicle for any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for this issue and perform a leak test on the Canister Purge Valve (CPV). The fuel tank will be inspected for cracks. The CPV and fuel tank will be replaced as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S34.

  10. EquipmentMay 29, 2014

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain all weather driver side accessory floor mats sold for use in model year 2006-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, and 2007-2011 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured November 9, 2007, through October 31, 2010. The affected floor mats may move and possibly interfere with the accelerator pedal.

The floor mat could shift such that it could interfere with the accelerator pedal, preventing its return to an idle position, which could result in unintended vehicle speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install new replacement mats, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact Ford's customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S07. NOTE: Vehicles built after October 31, 2010, while potentially equipped with the same floor mats, are equipped with a Brake Over Accelerator (BOA) feature that prevents simultaneous accelerator and brake application, allowing the vehicle to be safely stopped by pressing firmly and steadily on the brake pedal.

TAKATA AIR BAGS RECALL WAS SENT TO ME IN EARLY 2016 REGARDING MY FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG MAY EXPLODE WITH METAL PARTS PROJECTED TOWARD THE PASSENGER'S BODY. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO HAVE ANY PASSENGERS SIT IN THAT SEAT FOR GOING ON 3 YEARS, BUT I HAD DRIVEN PASSENGERS IN THAT SEAT FOR NEARLY 6 PLUS YEARS BEFORE KNOWING OF THE PROBLEM. VERY SCARY TO LEARN OF THIS RISK. I'M EXTREMELY UPSET WITH FORD MOTOR CORPORATION FOR NOT HAVING A "FIX" FOR MY SPECIFIC AUTOMOBILE AFTER ALL THIS TIME. THE PEOPLE AT OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER, MIKE BROWN FORD HAVE BEEN VERY GOOD & NICE, BUT THEY ARE IN A DIFFICULT POSITION SINCE THEY STATE THEY O NOT HAVE WHAT IS NEEDED TO REPLACE MY TAKATA AIRBAG. PLUS, WHEN THEY DO HAVE A "FIX" THE DEALER HAS TO MAKE THE REPLACEMENTS IN A SPECIFIC GOVERNMENT REGULATED ORDER. MY VEHICLE IS 10 PLUS YEARS OLD AND I CAN'T EVEN TRADE IT IN TO SOME OTHER AUTO MANUFACTURERS BECAUSE THEY CAN'T RESELL THE VEHICLE WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO FIX THE RECALL. I FEEL I'M STUCK WITH A VEHICLE THAT IS INCONVENIENT, AGING AND I'M HELPLESS AS A FORD CUSTOMER. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT. I RECOGNIZE THAT OTHER AUTO MANUFACTURES WERE ALSO AFFECTED BY TAKATA'S POOR QUALITY AND SAFETY STANDARDS. IT TOOK WAY TOO LONG TO NOTIFY HE PUBLIC AND WAY TOO LONG TO CORRECT THE TAKATA AIRBAG TRAGEDY. THIS IS THE THIRD DIFFERENT RECALL I'M HAD ON AUTO,. FORD MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR LACK OF QUALITY AND SAFETY. AND GO OUT OF BUSINESS IF THEY CAN NOT RAPIDLY PROVE THAT THEY CAN MAKE VEHICLES THAT ARE SAFE...THAT MEANS THEY NEED TO THOROUGHLY RESEARCH THEIR VENDORS FOR PRODUCTS THAT ARE USED WHEN MANUFACTURING VEHICLES SO THEY AREN'T SELLING DEATH TRAPS TO THE PUBLIC. MY UNDERSTANDING IS FORD AND OTHER MANUFACTURERS KNEW ABOUT THE TAKATA AIRBAG BEFORE 2009...BEFORE MY VEHICLE WAS SOLD TO ME. I WANT A GOOD SOLUTION TO MY TAKATA AIRBAG PROBLEM NOW!

I HAVE DECIDED TO CONTACT NHTSA BECAUSE TAKATA HAS FILED BANKRUPTCY AND SENDS LEGAL NOTICES INTENDED TO LIMIT MY RIGHTS IN THE EVENT OF BODILY HARM, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR ECONOMIC HARM AND -- THIS PAST WEEK -- FORD HAS SENT ME A LEGAL NOTICE IN A CLASS ACTION INTENDED TO LIMIT MY RIGHTS IN THE EVENT OF ECONOMIC HARM. NHTSA SHOULD TAKE STEPS TO PREVENT FORD AND TAKATA FROM TAKING AWAY CONSUMERS' LEGAL RIGHTS UNTIL THEY PROVIDE ADEQUATE REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR EVERY AFFECTED CONSUMER (I.E., NO TAKING AWAY RIGHTS UNLESS CONSUMERS FAIL TO TAKE REASONABLE STEPS TO AVOID THE HARM BY TAKING CARS TO DEALERS IN A TIMELY MANNER).

TAKATA RECALL. I AM STILL WAITING FOR MY FORD DEALER TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE. THE LAST TIME I CALLED THEM I WAS TOLD THAT THEY STILL DON'T HAVE THE PARTS AND WOULD NOT HAVE THEM UNTIL DECEMBER OR LATER. IN THE MEANTIME, I AM AFRAID TO TAKE PASSENGERS BECAUSE OF THE POTENTIAL DANGER.

TAKATA RECALL. I WAS FIRST NOTIFIED OF THE TAKATA RECALL IN FEBRUARY 2018. FORD TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD BE REPLACING THE AIRBAG IN THE THIRD QUARTER OF 2018 WHICH WAS SEPTEMBER. WE ARE NOW INTO THE 4TH QUARTER OF 2018 AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THEY ARE PLACING MY LIFE IN JEOPARDY BY TAKING SO LONG TO MANUFACTURE A REPLACEMENT AIRBAG.

IT HAS BEEN ABOUT SIX MONTHS FROM TODAY, NOVEMBER 11 2018, SINCE WE WERE TOLD WE WOULD BE CONTACTED WHEN THE DEALERSHIP GETS THE PARTS FOR THIS REPAIR. ALMOST THREE YEARS LATER AND WE STILL HAVEN'T HEARD FROM THE DEALER OR FORD. WHAT CAN BE DONE?

TAKATA RECALL I HAVE TWO COMPLAINTS. 1) TAKATA RECALL, FORD SENT ME THE NOTICE ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO AND FORD RECALL AND FORD MECHANIC SHOP SAID THAT FORD HAD NOT MADE ANY REPLACEABLE AIR BAGS THESE PAST THREE YEARS. I JUST CALLED THIS WEEK. 11/2/18. AGAIN NO AIRBAGS HAD BEEN MADE. THE VEHICLE COULD BE EFFECTED WITH DRIVING OR STATIONERY. ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR IS THAT IF I PARK ON MY DRIVEWAY AND IT RAINS WHEN I OPEN THE DRIVER DOOR I SEE WATER ALL AROUND THE DOOR JAMB.
