Recalls and investigations

  1. Air bags, frontal, driver side, inflator moduleMar 10, 2021

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2007-2011 Ranger, 2006-2012 Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr, Lincoln MKZ, 2006-2011 Mercury Milan, 2007-2010 Ford Edge, and Lincoln MKX vehicles. The driver's side air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver-side airbag inflator or module with an alternate one, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 9, 2021 for the passenger side, and November 14, 2022 for the driver side. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S12.

  4. Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleDec 18, 2019

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2006-2010 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr and MKZ vehicles. The valves within the ABS Hydraulic Control Units (HCU) may react with brake fluids containing specific corrosion preventative additives. This reaction may cause the valves to not close properly.

If the valves do not properly close, additional brake pedal travel may be required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will flush the brake system with DOT 4 fluid and install a new brake fluid reservoir cap. In addition, the HCU will be tested to detect a possible stuck valve condition, replacing the HCU as necessary. All services will be performed free of charge. The recall began April 1, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S54.

  8. Air bags, frontal, passenger side, inflator moduleDo not drive until repairedMay 31, 2016

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2007-2011 Ford Ranger vehicles, 2006-2011 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ vehicles, 2007-2010 Ford Edge, Lincoln MKX vehicles, 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles, and 2005-2011 Ford Mustang vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands, or "Zone A." Additionally, unless included in "Zone A" above, Ford is recalling certain model year 2007-2008 Ford Ranger, Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles, 2006-2008 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ vehicles, 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles and 2005-2008 Ford Mustang vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, or "Zone B." Any vehicle not included in "Zone A", or "Zone B" is not included in the safety recall. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules, and used as original equipment or replacement equipment. 9. Fuel system, gasoline, storage, auxillary tankNov 24, 2015

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured July 21, 2008, to March 4, 2011, and 2010-2011 Mercury Milan vehicles manufactured July 23, 2008, to December 10, 2010. The affected vehicles have fuel vapor canisters whose purge valves may not operate properly resulting in abnormal pressure changes in the fuel tank.

The pressure changes may cause the tank to crack and leak fuel. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle powertrain control modules and inspect the vehicle for any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for this issue and perform a leak test on the Canister Purge Valve (CPV). The fuel tank will be inspected for cracks. The CPV and fuel tank will be replaced as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S34.

  10. EquipmentMay 29, 2014

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain all weather driver side accessory floor mats sold for use in model year 2006-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, and 2007-2011 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured November 9, 2007, through October 31, 2010. The affected floor mats may move and possibly interfere with the accelerator pedal.

The floor mat could shift such that it could interfere with the accelerator pedal, preventing its return to an idle position, which could result in unintended vehicle speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install new replacement mats, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact Ford's customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S07. NOTE: Vehicles built after October 31, 2010, while potentially equipped with the same floor mats, are equipped with a Brake Over Accelerator (BOA) feature that prevents simultaneous accelerator and brake application, allowing the vehicle to be safely stopped by pressing firmly and steadily on the brake pedal.

  11. Wheels, lugs/nuts/bolts/studsDec 7, 2011

FORD IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010-2011 FORD FUSION AND MERCURY MILAN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 17 INCH STEEL WHEELS AND BUILT FROM APRIL 1, 2009, THROUGH APRIL 30, 2009, AND FROM DECEMBER 1, 2009, THROUGH NOVEMBER 13, 2010. THE WHEEL STUDS MAY FRACTURE, POTENTIALLY CAUSING A WHEEL TO SEPARATE.

WHILE DRIVING, MULTIPLE STUD FRACTURES COULD OCCUR AT THE WHEEL LOCATION, AND THE OPERATOR MAY EXPERIENCE VEHICLE VIBRATION AND/OR WHEEL SEPARATION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

FORD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR BRAKE DISC SURFACE FOR FLATNESS AND REPLACE THE DISCS AS NECESSARY. ADDITIONALLY, THE WHEEL LUG NUTS WILL BE REPLACED ON ALL FOUR WHEELS. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT JANUARY 24, 2012. 1. Steering, Aug 14, 2016

STARTED THE CAR THIS MORNING AND A MESSAGE POPPED UP SAYING POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT TRIED TO MOVE THE CAR BUT COULD NOT MOVE THE WHEELS. THE CAR CAN ONLY GO STRAIGHT. SO I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND IT SEEMED TO FIX. GLAD I WAS NOT DRIVING THE CAR.

  2. Vehicle speed control, Aug 12, 2016

SUDDEN STALLING OR ACCELERATION. ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF DEPENDING ON HOW MANY TIMES I START THE CAR. MY CAR STALLED OUT AND DIED I WAITED FIVE MINUTES AND RESTARTED IT AND IT SEEMED FINE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE. NOW MY CAR SUDDENLY STALLS AND I HAVE NO CONTROL ON THE THROTTLE. WHEN I GIVE IT GAS IT JUST CREEPS ALONG. LIMP HOME MODE. I WAS IN OTION ON A CITY STREET AND BARELY HAD ENOUGH CONTROL TO GET OVER ON A SIDE STREET SAFELY WITH MY CHILD IN THE CAR.

  3. Steering, Aug 12, 2016

I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE BANK DRIVE THRU AND POWER STEERING QUIT WORKING AT ALL WHILE I WAS TURNING ONTO THE STREET.

  4. Other or unspecified, Aug 9, 2016

AS I AM DRIVING, THE ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR TURNS OFF. WHEN I RESTART THE ENGINE, THE LIGHT GOES OFF AND THE CAR RUNS FINE FOR A WHILE. I BELIEVE IT'S THE THROTTLE BODY

  5. Service brakes, Aug 8, 2016, crash

IN AUG. 2010, WHILE LEAVING HOME ON OUR CANYON ROAD, AND ON A DOWNHILL INCLINE, I STOPPED WITHOUT INCIDENT TO LET A COUPLE OF CARS PASS ON A NARROW STRETCH. AFTER THEY PASSED I TAPPED THE ACCELERATOR AND SLOWLY (10-15MPH) ROLLED INTO A 90 DEGREE DOWNHILL TURN. WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THERE WAS NO RESPONSE WHATSOEVER. I QUICKLY PUMPED THE STOOD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH NO RESULTS. I HAD ONLY 2-3 SECONDS TO REACT AND AS I BEGAN TO GO STRAIGHT THROUGH THE TURN I JERKED THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT AND RODE AN EARTHEN BANK UP AND OVER A BOULDER THAT STOPPED THE CAR. THE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS BADLY DAMAGED, TOTALING THE CAR. HAD I GONE STRAIGHT ANOTHER 4 FEET, I WOULD HAVE GONE OFF OF A CLIFF AND ONTO A HIGHWAY. THE CAR WAS ALWAYS PERFECTLY SERVICED AND HAD NO PROBLEMS PREVIOUSLY. FORD DID NOT RESPOND TO MY COMPLAINT.

  6. Fuel/propulsion system, Aug 8, 2016

I RECEIVED THE FORD SAFETY RECALL REGARDING THE FUEL SYSTEM SURFACE CRACK/LEAK, IN JANUARY 2016. IN FEBRUARY, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISED I COULD NOT DRIVE IT OFF THE LOT DUE TO AN ACTIVE LEAK. THEY KEPT MY CAR AND HAVE PROVIDED ME WITH A LONER FOR THE PAST 6 MONTHS WHILE I HAVE WAITING FOR THEM TO PERFORM THE SAFETY RECALL REPAIR. I RECEIVED A CALL TODAY (8/8/16) THAT MY CAR MIGHT BE READY BY 8/12/16. THEY WILL CALL AND LET ME KNOW ON 8/10/16. THE PROBLEM IS, I HAVE HAD TO MOVE OUT OF STATE FOR WORK SINCE FEBRUARY, AND I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PHYSICALLY RETURN TO MICHIGAN UNTIL 8/22/16. IT IS A 16-HOUR ROUND TRIP FOR ME TO RETURN THE RENTAL TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY ARE TELLING ME I HAVE TO BE THERE BECAUSE THEY WILL NO LONGER PAY FOR THE RENTAL AFTER 8/10/16. I CALLED THE FORD RECALL DEPARTMENT DIRECTLY AND WAS TOLD I HAVE TO WORK THAT OUT WITH THE DEALERSHIP. SO IN MY CURRENT SITUATION, I AM GOING TO BE PENALIZED WITH PAYING FOR A RENTAL CAR FOR 12 DAYS. THIS IS A RENTAL CAR I DON'T WANT AND AM ONLY DRIVING BECAUSE OF FORD'S RECALL. SO DUE TO FORD'S RECALL I WILL HAVE TO SPEND AN ADDITIONAL $500 FOR THIS RENTAL. THEY HAVE MADE ME WAIT 6 MONTHS, BUT THEY CAN'T WAIT 12 DAYS. IT ISN'T RIGHT THAT I AM GOING TO HAVE TO SPEND MONEY DUE SOMETHING THAT IS FORD'S FAULT. I WOULD LIKE FORD TO CONTINUE PAYING MY RENTAL UNTIL 8/22/16 OR TO SHIP MY FORD FUSION TO ME IN KENTUCKY WHEN IT IS REPAIRED. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED AT IMLAY CITY FORD IN IMLAY CITY, MI

  7. Steering, Power train, Engine, Aug 7, 2016

THIS FIRST HAPPENED TO ME ON JUNE 1, 2016. MY 2010 FORD FUSION LOSES POWER ONCE IN A WHILE WHEN DRIVING. A WRENCH LIGHT APPEARS ON THE DASH BOARD AND THE CAR STARTS TO SLOW DOWN, ACCELERATOR DOES NOT WORK AND SOMETIMES THE CAR STARTS TO SHAKE. YOU WILL HAVE TO PULL OVER, TURN THE CAR OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN TURN IT OFF IN ORDER TO DRIVE IT UNTIL THE LIGHT COMES BACK ON AGAIN. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IT IN THE HIGHWAY AND SPECIALLY WHEN SPEED LIMIT ITS 50 AND TRUCKS OR OTHER CARS ARE COMING AT A HIGH SPEED BEHIND YOU BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW WHEN THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO YOU AGAIN. I HAVE THIS PROBLEM FOR A FEW WEEKS. I TOOK MY CAR FOR A RECALL FOR SOMETHING ELSE ON JUNE 24, 2016 AND I MENTIONED TO THEM ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE. BUT I'M SURE IT WILL NOT BE FINE IF I GET INTO A CAR ACCIDENT AFTER COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THE DEALER WILL ASK IF THE LIGHT ITS ON IN ORDER FOR THEM TO CHECK IT. BUT I HAVE MENTION THAT THE LIGHT GOES ON AND AS SOON AS YOU LOSE POWER AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON IT DISAPPEARS.

  8. Seats, Aug 6, 2016

MY DRIVERS SIDE HEATED SEAT BEGAN TO GET WARMER THAN USUAL WHEN I WOULD USE IT. IT WOULD BECOME SO WARM THAT I WOULD HAVE TO TURN IT OFF BECAUSE IT WAS GETTING TOO HOT AND I WAS AFRAID THAT IT WOULD BURN ME. AFTER A FEW WEEKS OF THIS HAPPENING THE SEAT HEATER STOPPED FUNCTIONING PROPERLY ALL TOGETHER. I WOULD PRESS THE HEATED SEAT BUTTON AND IT WOULD ILLUMINATE FOR A FEW SECONDS (MAYBE 2-3) AND THEN SHUT OFF ON ITS OWN, AS IF SOMETHING WERE TRIPPING A FAULT. THE SEAT DOES NOT GET WARM AT ALL BEFORE THE SWITCH TURNS OFF AUTOMATICALLY. IT IS APPARENT BASED ON RESEARCH THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE FORD FUSION. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND I WAS TOLD THE HEATING UNIT WOULD COST ALMOST $400 AND TO REPLACE THE LEATHER SEAT IS OVER $1000. OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS IN MICHIGAN, I HAVE HAD OVER A 10% PAY CUT AS A TEACHER. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO FIX THIS COMMON PROBLEM. PLEASE ASK FORD TO FIX THIS PROBLEM WITH NO COST.

COMPLETE POWER STEERING FAILURE SAME AS DESCRIBED WITH 2011 AND LATER MODELS.

  10. Steering, Aug 4, 2016

WHILE DRIVING ON A STATE HIGHWAY IN SC (SPEED LIMIT WAS 55), THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON FOLLOWED BY "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW" AND SERVICE ADVANCETRACK. LET ME NOTE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN BY MY 21 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. MY DAUGHTER HAD TO DRIVE/WRESTLE THE CAR WITHOUT POWER STEERING. AFTER GETTING THE TIRE PRESSURE ISSUED FIXED, I TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE WARNINGS DIAGNOSED. THE CAR PRODUCED CODE P07AE-09. ACCORDING TO A NHTSA INVESTIGATION REPORT (PE14030) THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM ON 2010 FUSIONS. THE FORD DEALER STATES THE CAR'S VIN DOES NOT PROVIDE FOR A REPAIR AS DIRECTED IN THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION REPORT AND WANTS $1,870 TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THEY ARE STATING IT NEEDS A NEW STEERING SYSTEM WHICH IS WHAT IS DESCRIBED IN THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION REPORT.

  11. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Aug 4, 2016

WHEN AT A STOP IT STOPS RUNNING. THE IDLE SPEED DROPS AND FLUCTUATES. IT IS STALLING WHEN STOPPED. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND LASTED 20 MILES AND THEN WENT OFF.

  12. Fuel/propulsion system, Aug 3, 2016

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE; HOWEVER, THE PART FOR THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD LEAK FUEL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.

  13. Steering, Aug 1, 2016

CAME OUT TO MY CAR TO GO OUT AND WHEN I TURNED IT ON THE DASHBOARD STARTED BEEPING AND AN ERROR MESSAGE CAME UP "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW". THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND THE WHEEL IS STIFF NOW. LAST YEAR, I PAID 1800 TO REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION AND NOW THIS IS HAPPENING. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY WANT 2000 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

  14. Steering, Jul 29, 2016

I HAD JUST ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION AND THE CAR HAD DISPLAYED A "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW." I LEFT AND WENT IN THE STORE; WHEN I CAME BACK OUT AND TURNED ON THE CAR THE WHEEL WOULDN'T BUDGE. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY TO SEE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE POWER STEERING.

  15. Other or unspecified, Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 29, 2016

I HAVE MULTIPLE ITEMS THAT HAVE COME ABOUT ALL OF A SUDDEN OVER THE LAST MONTH OR TWO FOR NO APPARENT REASON. 1.) FUEL FILL INLET MESSAGE HAS APPEARED ON THE DASH, ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. 2.) DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE JUST STOPPED WORKING. 3.) THE AIR CONDITIONER HAS INTERMITTENTLY STOPPED WORKING. COOL AIR COMES AND GOES, AND FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR IT SEEMS THE FAN STAYS ON ALL THE TIME.

  16. Steering, Jul 28, 2016

I CONTINUOUSLY HAVE POWER STEERING FAILURE AND HAVE TO STEER MANUALLY. I STARTED THE CAR GOT A LOW TIRE PRESSURE NOTICE AND WENT TO GET AIR. ON THE WAY TO THE AIR PUMP, I GOT A SERVICE POWER STEERING MESSAGE. I PUT AIR IN THE TIRE. WHEN I GOT BACK INTO THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULDN'T TURN. I CHANGED THE TIRE AND STILL NO POWER STEERING. I'VE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT AND THE COST BEING AROUND $1500. FORD'S DEALERSHIP IS THE ONLY PLACE IN MY AREA THAT CAN FIX IT.

  17. Power train, Jul 27, 2016

MY 2010 FORD FUSION STARTED EXPIERENCING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WHILE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT LAST WEEK. THE CAR SUDDENLY WENT INTO NEUTRAL WHILE THE GEAR SHIFT WAS IN THE DRIVE POSITION. AFTER PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR FOR SEVERAL SECONDS THE CAR SLAMED INTO GEAR. I TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY FOR REPAIR. THERE HAVE BEEN NO ISSUES WITH THIS TRANSMISSION PROIR TO THIS EVENT. THE CAR HAS EXACTLY 111,856 MILES ON IT TO DATE. THE FORD DEALERSHIP DID AN UPDATE ON THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE AND TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CAR WAS FOUND TO NEED A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT FORD FUSIONS HAVING TRANSMISSION ISSUES. I CONTACTED FORD SO THAT THEY COULD DOCUMENT YET ANOTHER COMPLAINT ABOUT ONE OF THEIR FUSIONS HAVING TRANSMISSION FAILURE, AND ASKED THAT THERE BE A RECALL ISSUED. THEY SAID THEY HAD NO INTENTION OF ISSUING A RECALL. SO I AM ASKING THE NHTSA TO PUT SOME PRESSURE ON THEM TO SERIOUSLY CONSIDER ISSUING A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED DUE TO A TRANMSSION FAILURE ON THE ROAD.

THE ORANGE WARNING LIGHT FOR STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM CAME ON ONCE PERHAPS 6 WEEKS AGO, BUT IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME WENT OFF, WHILE I WAS ON THE FREEWAY. NOTHING ELSE UNTIL 10 DAYS AGO WHEN STEERING LOCKED AS I TURNED LEFT TO LEAVE A PARALLEL PARKING PLACE--ALONG WITH AN "ADVANCETRAC SERVICE NEEDED" MESSAGE ON DASH. FORD SERVICE DID ANALYSIS, FOUND "THE ELECTRONIC STEERING GEAR IS BAD AND ESTIMATE TO REPAIR $1900." PART #61358; CODES THEY RETRIEVED WERE U3000-49 AND U3000-72. CAR IS SERVICED REGULARLY AND VERY RECENTLY HAD ITS 60K SERVICING. I CAN'T AFFORD THE $1900 SO WANTED TO GET ESTIMATES FROM OTHER AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE PROVIDERS.TO SEE IF I COULD DUPLICATE WHAT HAD HAPPENED, I DID A TEST DRIVE AROUND MY BLOCK THIS MORNING AND PARALLEL PARKED AGAIN WHERE I WOULD NEED TO TURN LEFT AGAIN AFTER TURNING ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTING. A "POWER ASSIST FAULT" MESSAGE CAME ON AND AGAIN THERE WERE SEVERAL SECONDS WHEN THE STEERING WAS NOT UNDER MY CONTROL. THIS APPEARS TO BE A TOO-COMMON PROBLEM.

AFTER TURNING THE IGNITION ON POWER STEERING FAILED TO WORK. I TURNED IGNITION OFF AND ON AGAIN AND POWER STEERING WORKED. FAULTY POWER STEERING RACK.

I JUST HAD TO PAY 1900. TO HAVE MY 2010 FORD FUSION POWER STEERING FAULT ASSIST REPAIRED, ALTHOUGH IT APPEARS THE 2011-2012 MODELS ARE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT, AND THE CAR IS THEN NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. IF THIS HAPPENS WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING YOU LOSE COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE CAR. I HAVE OWNED AND DRIVEN FORDS FOR OVER 15 YEARS (TAURUS AND FUSION) THAT I BOUGHT BRAND NEW, AND I MAINTAIN MY GARAGE KEPT CARS. MY FUSION HAS 73,000 MILES SO THE POWER STEERING SHOULD NOT GO OUT ON MY CAR AT NO FAULT OF MY OWN. THIS POWER STEERING FAULT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A RECALL BEFORE MORE ACCIDENTS AND OCCURRENCES HAPPEN ENDANGERING PEOPLES SAFETY. I DRIVE WITH LITTLE CHILDREN IN MY CAR REGULARLY AND I AM THANKFUL I WAS ALONE WHEN MY STEERING WENT OUT. PLEASE CONSIDER INCLUDING THIS POWER STEERING FAULT ASSIST PROBLEM IN 2010 FORD FUSIONS TO BE A RECALL. IT IS DANGEROUS AND VERY COSTLY TO BE FIXED AS I HAVE LEARNED. THANKS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION.

LOSS OF POWER DURING ACCELERATION, DUE TO TRANSMISSION NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY. THE ENGINE RUNS AT HIGH RPM, BUT CAR DOESN'T MOVE. THIS ONLY HAPPENS AFTER CAR/TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR HOUR OR MORE. IT APPEARS BASED ON INTERNET SEARCHING, TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 6F35 TRANSMISSIONS IN FUSIONS AND ESCAPES. THIS HAPPENS MOSTLY ON CITY DRIVING - WHICH AFTER IT IS ON HIGHWAY SPEEDS IS IN THE TOP GEAR. ON HOT DAY, WHEN THE CAR IS WELL WARMED UP, STOP AND GO TRAFFIC IS VERY DIFFICULT AND COULD CAUSE ACCIDENTS.

POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILS. POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE FLASHES ON THE DISPLAY AND THE VEHICLE BECOMES NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY WHEN THE ALARM CHIMED, POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE FLASHED ON THE DASH DISPLAY, AND THE CAR WAS SUDDENLY WITHOUT STEERING. I WAS ABLE TO PULL BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT BUT IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY GOING TO WORK THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A CATASTROPHE. AFTER CHECKING FOR LOOSE WIRES OR OTHER OBVIOUS DEFECT UNDER THE HOOD, I DECIDED TO RESTART THE CAR. WHEN IT STARTED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. I DECIDED NOT TO DRIVE IT THAT DAY ( I ALSO OWN A 2007 F-150) AND TOOK OUR OTHER FORD VEHICLE. TODAY WHEN I WENT OUT TO CHECK IT AGAIN THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED AND I CAN NO LONGER DRIVE IT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE CONTROL BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
