  6. Fuel system, gasoline, storage, auxillary tankNov 24, 2015

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured July 21, 2008, to March 4, 2011, and 2010-2011 Mercury Milan vehicles manufactured July 23, 2008, to December 10, 2010. The affected vehicles have fuel vapor canisters whose purge valves may not operate properly resulting in abnormal pressure changes in the fuel tank.

The pressure changes may cause the tank to crack and leak fuel. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle powertrain control modules and inspect the vehicle for any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for this issue and perform a leak test on the Canister Purge Valve (CPV). The fuel tank will be inspected for cracks. The CPV and fuel tank will be replaced as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S34.

  7. Steering, electric power assist systemJun 2, 2015

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Ford Fusion vehicles without a 3.5L engine and Lincoln MKZ hybrid electric vehicles, 2011 Mercury Milan vehicles, 2011-2012 Ford Taurus, Ford Flex, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT vehicles equipped with a 3.5L GTDI engine and 2013 Ford Taurus, Ford Flex, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT vehicles equipped with any available engine. The affected vehicles have electric power steering assist systems that may shut down as a result of a steering motor sensor fault.

If the vehicle experiences a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will check the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). If dealers find any loss of steering assist DTCs, the steering gear will be replaced, free of charge. If, no codes are found during the PSCM inspection, the PSCM software will be updated, free of charge. The recall began on July 21, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S18.

  8. EquipmentMay 29, 2014

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain all weather driver side accessory floor mats sold for use in model year 2006-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, and 2007-2011 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured November 9, 2007, through October 31, 2010. The affected floor mats may move and possibly interfere with the accelerator pedal.

The floor mat could shift such that it could interfere with the accelerator pedal, preventing its return to an idle position, which could result in unintended vehicle speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install new replacement mats, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact Ford's customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S07. NOTE: Vehicles built after October 31, 2010, while potentially equipped with the same floor mats, are equipped with a Brake Over Accelerator (BOA) feature that prevents simultaneous accelerator and brake application, allowing the vehicle to be safely stopped by pressing firmly and steadily on the brake pedal.

  9. Wheels, lugs/nuts/bolts/studsDec 7, 2011

FORD IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010-2011 FORD FUSION AND MERCURY MILAN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 17 INCH STEEL WHEELS AND BUILT FROM APRIL 1, 2009, THROUGH APRIL 30, 2009, AND FROM DECEMBER 1, 2009, THROUGH NOVEMBER 13, 2010. THE WHEEL STUDS MAY FRACTURE, POTENTIALLY CAUSING A WHEEL TO SEPARATE.

WHILE DRIVING, MULTIPLE STUD FRACTURES COULD OCCUR AT THE WHEEL LOCATION, AND THE OPERATOR MAY EXPERIENCE VEHICLE VIBRATION AND/OR WHEEL SEPARATION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

FORD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR BRAKE DISC SURFACE FOR FLATNESS AND REPLACE THE DISCS AS NECESSARY. ADDITIONALLY, THE WHEEL LUG NUTS WILL BE REPLACED ON ALL FOUR WHEELS. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT JANUARY 24, 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER AT 1-866-436-7332.

  1. Steering, Service brakes, Feb 28, 2021

WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY INTO A PARKING LOT TO CHECK REAR WHEEL SOUNDS, MESSAGE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" APPEARED ON THE DASH. EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN WHEEL AND COULD NOT BACKUP. DEALER DIAGNOSIS ON 2/23/21 WAS "REAR CALIPERS SEIZED" AND STEERING GEAR NEEDS REPLACEMENT.

  2. Service brakes, Feb 27, 2021

THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR BOARD WHEN TRYING TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND 2 WEEKS LATER AT A STOP SIGN. THE PEDAL SINCE THE 1ST TIME IS A BIT SOFT.

  3. Service brakes, Feb 10, 2021

LOST BRAKE PEDAL, GOES TO FLOOR ABS MODULE BAD ON MY 2011 FUSION. FORD IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND WONT DO NOTHING ABOUT IT..SEVERE SAFTY ISSUE

  4. Service brakes, Forward collision avoidance, Feb 1, 2021

BRAKES ALWAYS NEED TO BE PUSHED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR TO STOP SINCE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED

  5. Service brakes, Jan 22, 2021

WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, I WAS COMING TO A STOP SIGN. THERE WAS SNOW ON THE ROAD AND THE ABS KICKED IN, AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. SINCE THEN THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR EVERY TIME I USE THE BRAKES.

  6. Service brakes, Jan 8, 2021

FOLLOWING AN ABS BRAKE EVENT, MY BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOTED TO SINK SLOWLY TO THE FLOOR WHEN BRAKING. NO FLUID WAS LOST. I READ THE RECALL NOTICE DETAILS FOR THE HCU ON AN 2010 FUSION (19S54). FROM THIS, I WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT IF I BRAKED ON GRAVEL, I COULD CAUSE THE ABS TO ACTIVATE AND CORRECT THE ISSUE. THAT WORKED GREAT FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, BUT WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR, THE SINKING PEDAL ISSUE RESUMED. SHE IS NOT AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER. I'D LIKE TO TAKE IT TO THE FORD DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. I SEE THE INVESTIGATION 19S54 INCLUDED 2006 TO 2012 MODELS; HOWEVER, THE RECALL FOR SOME REASON ONLY COVERS TO 2010. WHAT'S UP? CAN I GO GET MY CAR FIXED? OR DO I NEED TO WAIT UNTIL MY DAUGHTER HAS AN ACCIDENT?

I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 FORD FUSION HYBRID AT AROUND THIRTY MPH ON A CITY STREET AND MY BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT POPPED UP ON THE DASHBOARD. AS SOON AS THAT HAPPEN I HAD NO BRAKES, AND THERE WAS NO RESISTANCE IN THE BRAKES. THEY WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR, LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR WITH MY EMERGENCY BRAKE. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE BRAKES WORKED FINE AFTER THAT.

  10. Service brakes, Dec 19, 2020

ACTIVATION OF THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM CAUSES A LOSS OF BRAKING - PEDAL GOES NEARLY TO THE FLOOR. THE CONDITION CAN SOMETIMES BE REVERSED BY RAPID PUMPING OF THE BRAKES. SUSPECT FAULTY HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) - STICKING VALVES. THE 2011 MODELS SHOULD ABSOLUTELY HAVE BEEN COVERED IN THE RECALL FOR 2008-2010 MODELS. PLEASE AD THIS MODEL YEAR TO NHSTA 19V904000. THIS IS A KNOWN DANGER AND FORD MUST BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEFECT/RESOLUTION. THANKS!

  11. Service brakes, Nov 11, 2020

ALL OF A SUDDEN MY BRAKES STARTED GOING ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND IT BECAME INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO STOP THE CAR. MY ABS SYSTEM AND HYDRAULIC CONTROL VALVE WERE REPLACED IN NOVEMBER OF 2019. THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME ON 11/10/2020. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP AND THEY SAY IT'S THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN.

  12. Service brakes, Oct 3, 2020, fire

WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC ON A CITY STREET AT ABOUT 45 MPH, THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING SO THAT WE WERE UNABLE TO FULLY STOP SAFELY. THERE WAS SMOKE COMING OUT OF A TIRE AND BURNING INSIDE OF THE WHEEL. THE ABS SYSTEM SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING AND WE WERE LUCKY THAT WE DIDN'T HIT ANYONE.

  13. Service brakes, Aug 26, 2020

AT AROUND 125000 MILES I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY ROAD AROUND 20 MILES PER HOUR. I HIT MY BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I PARKED THE VEHICLE AND PUMPED THE BRAKES WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS OFF AND THE BRAKE REGAINED FULL PRESSURE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO PEP BOYS AND THEN TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. NEITHER AUTO SHOP COULD FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE SYSTEM. AT ABOUT 130000 MILES I WAS ON AN EXIT RAMP SLIGHTLY TURNING MY VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AT ABOUT 30 MPH, THE BRAKE WENT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN. I WAS NOT ABLE TO REGAIN PRESSURE IN THE BRAKES. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO PEP BOYS, THEY TOLD ME THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTER NEED TO BE REPLACED. I HAD A MECHANIC REPLACE BOTH PARTS. THE BRAKES STILL DIDNT WORK. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY WITH FORD, THEY STATE THE MASTER CYLINDER IS LEAKING SO THAT PART NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THE SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE FLUSHED. I SEE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND OTHER YEARS OF THE FORD FUSION. NOT SURE IF THIS WILL BE A SOLUTION TO THE ISSUE.

  14. Service brakes, Aug 11, 2020

BRAKES VERY SOFT AT LOW SPEEDS. VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP!

  15. Service brakes, Aug 4, 2020

II WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR AND DID NOT STOP THE CAR. I HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. I HAD TO CONTINUE TO PUMP THE BRAKES ANY TIME I TRIED TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. I STOPPED DRIVING THE CAR AS THE BRAKES ARE NOW UNRELIABLE BUT I AM TAKING IT IN TO THE DEALER TODAY FOR REPAIR. WHEN THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON.

  16. Service brakes, Jul 18, 2020

WHILE DRIVING, BRAKES WILL INTERMITTENTLY HAVE EXCESSIVE TRAVEL. CAR EVENTUALLY DOES STOP BUT IT DOES REQUIRE INCREASED PEDAL TRAVEL AND INCREASED EFFORT ON THE DRIVER'S PART. SOMETIMES IT IS SELF CORRECTING BUT CURRENTLY IT IS STILL HAPPENING AND HAS NOT SELF-DIRECTED. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED WE WERE ON THE INTERSTATE AND HIT A POTHOLE. AFTER WE HAD THE POTHOLE THE BRAKING ISSUE BEGAN. I BELIEVE IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ABS SYSTEM. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR OVER A YEAR BUT IT USUALLY SELF CORRECTS. IT'S BEEN ALMOST A MONTH AND IT HAS NOT CORRECTED ITSELF YET.

    THE CAR IS VERY UNSAFE.

  18. Electronic stability control (ESC), Service brakes, Jul 14, 2020

HI, MY NAME IS [XXX] AND I OWN A 2011 FORD FUSION. IN NOVEMBER OF 2019, I NOTICED MY BRAKES ACTING DIFFERENTLY ALMOST IN AN INSTANT. EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND NORMAL WHEN I STOPPED MY CAR AND WHEN IT WAS TIME TO GO AGAIN, I IMMEDIATELY COULD SENSE A DIFFERENCE IN THE PERFORMANCE. I DROVE IT AROUND FOR A WHILE AND WAS AWARE I WAS HAVING TO PUMP THE PEDAL TO GET IT TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IT WAS FRIGHTENING TO GET USED TO BECAUSE THE FIRST COUPLE TIMES I WOULD PUMP NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN AND THEN IT WOULD CATCH UP AND WORK PARTIALLY. ENOUGH TO STOP THE CAR BUT WITH MUCH MORE DIFFICULTIES. I TOLD MY FAMILY WHAT I WAS EXPERIENCING BECAUSE I WAS USING MY CAR FOR MY JOB AS A DOORDASH DELIVERY DRIVER. THEY TOLD ME WITH AS MUCH DRIVING AS I HAVE TO DO, THAT I DON'T NEED TO BE ON THE ROAD WITH THIS ISSUE. LONG STORY SHORT, MY BRAKES STILL AREN'T REPAIRED. I'VE SPENT CLOSE TO 3,500 ON REPAIRS BETWEEN 3 DIFFERENT MECHANICS. I EVEN TOOK OUT A $1200 LOAN FOR ONE LAST SHOT AND IT GOT ME KNOW WHERE. SO I AM HAVING TO PAY AROUND $1800 BACK TO THE LOAN COMPANY. I STILL OWE MONEY TO MY MOM, GRANDMAS, AND GRANDPAS FOR HELPING. A LITTLE OVER A THOUSAND TO EACH AND I HAVE TO PAY OFF THE LOAN. THE WORST PART IS I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO WORK SINCE THEN. SO I HAVE NO WORK HISTORY OR PROOF OF INSURANCE SINCE THEN. I AM ALSO GETTING MAIL SAYING I OWE $367 BY AUGUST 2ND OR THEY WILL REPO MY CAR. I WISH I COULD JUST GET THIS REPAIRED SO I WON'T HAVE TO LOSE THE CAR AFTER ALL THIS AND STILL PAY WHAT I OWE ON IT, ALSO MESSING UP MY CREDIT. ALSO HAVING PAID WAY MORE THEN THE CAR IS WORTH. AND THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME SORT WITH OTHER OWNERS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL. IT'S JUST BEEN AN EXTREMELY STRESSFUL SITUATION FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. MY FAMILY HAS EVEN BEGUN TO BE UPSET WITH ME BECAUSE THE MONEY INVESTED WASN'T WORTH ANYTHING AND I HAVE NO WAY OF PAYING THEM BACK. I LIVE ON MY OWN RENT INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *CC *TR

2011 FORD FUSION SEL, 97,800 MILES. BREAK PEDAL EXCESSIVE TRAVEL INCIDENT # 1, APPROXIMATELY APRIL TIME FRAME. BRAKE FLUID FLUSH WAS PERFORMED. INCIDENT # 2, 7 WEEKS LATER, DRIVING STRAIGHT ROAD DECELERATING FROM 45 MPH AND BRAKING FOR A RED LIGHT WITH CARS AHEAD, PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, FINALLY CAUGHT AT BOTTOM. VEHICLE IS NOW AT FORD DEALER, RECOMMENDATION WAS TO REPLACE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT AT A COST OF $1,000.00. REPAIRS ARE PROCEEDING. THIS APPEARS TO BE THE SAME ISSUE IDENTIFIED IN SAFETY RECALL 19S54 - ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT VALVE FUNCTION - 2006 - 2010 FOR LINCOLN & MERCURY. UNDER NHTSA COMPLAINTS FOR 2011 FORD FUSION - SERVICE BRAKES (AND HYDRAULIC), 98 CASES ARE REGISTERED WITH A VERY HIGH PERCENTAGE OF THE CASES IDENTIFYING EXCESSIVE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL. I PERSONALLY FEEL THAT 2011 AND POSSIBLE 2012 MODEL YEARS SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. FAILURE MODE WAS IDENTIFIED AS HYDRAULIC CONTROL VALVES WITHIN THE HCU EXPERIENCE CORROSION AND BECOME STUCK. THE BRAKES OPERATE FINE WHEN THEY ARE WORKING, BUT THE VEHICLE CAN NOT BE TRUSTED DUE TO THE BRAKE SYSTEM INTERMITTENT BEHAVIOR. *TR

THE CAR HAS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AS IN RMISC-19V904-0442. BRAKES GET SPONGY AND INEFFECTIVE AFTER ABS ACTIVATION DUE TO A STICKY VALVE. FORD NEEDS TO EXPAND THIS RECALL AT LEAST TO 2006-2012 AND PROBABLY ALSO TO MAZDA3'S WHICH USE THE SAME BRAKE PARTS. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE OCCURRING ON 2011 FUSIONS WHICH ARE LARGELY THE SAME AS THE 2010'S. *TR

I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AND BRAKES ALL OF A SUDDEN WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THEY WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME UP ON THE DASH. HAD TO PULL OVER AND HAVE VEHICLE TOWED. THIS HAD ALSO HAPPENED A COUPLE DAYS BEFORE IN A PARKING LOT WHERE I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND GET VEHICLE STOPPED. I WAITED A WHILE AND WHEN I TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON THE PROBLEM WAS NO LONGER THERE. WHEN IT HAPPENED THE SECOND TIME I NO LONGER FELT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE SO HAD IT TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. IT WAS REPAIRED AND I HAVE NOT HAD ANOTHER ISSUE.
